Law-Abiding Tappers: Maximizing Your Conform-O-Meter Righteousness Rating

Back with another Conform-O-Meter installment!  Recently I started breaking down what the Conform-O-Meter is and how it works.  The Conform-O-Meter is an important part of Tapped-Out because it provide you with a bonus boost in your cash and XP from everything you collect in the game. When you achieve a 5-Star Town (its max rating) you will receive a 5% bonus on all money and XP collected in your town. If you missed the previous Conform-O-Meter posts check here for the basicshere for how many points you’ll need to reach 5 stars and here to check how to Maximize your Consumerism Rating.

Today I want to talk to you about your Righteousness Rating and what you can do to maximize it on your Conform-O-Meter…shall we read you your rights?
bart arrest

You can open up your Conform-O-Meter and check where you’re currently sitting with your Righteousness rating by tapping the stars on the bottom left of your main screen, while your in Springfield (Krustyland has it’s own Krust-O-Meter which you can read about here).  When you tap on the stars this is what opens up:
consumer

Your Righteousness Rating is the 3rd option down on the right hand side. When you tap it it says “Keep criminals and graffiti off the streets”, piece of cake…er donut?..or is it? Your Righteousness Rating can be one of the hardest to max out, and one of the most frustrating!

Before you “have a cow” over your rating, let’s break down how many points you’ll need to max out your Righteousness Rating at all levels:

Level Points
1 Thru 10 3
11 5
12 7
13 9
14 11
15 14
16 17
17 30
18 35
19 47
20 51
21 55
22 59
23 64
24 69
25 74
26 79
27 85
28 91
29 97
30 103
31 110
32 117
33 134
34 141
35 146
36 157
37 165
38 173
39 182
40 191
41 200
42 209
43 219
44 229
45 239

As you can see the higher the level you achieve in the game, the more points are required to maintain your 5 Star rating.

So what Helps Your Righteousness Rating?
So far in TSTO there are a couple of buildings and decorations that help affect your Righteousness rating in a positive light.

Decorations:
Training Wall: $270- 10 points (unlocks at level 33, can have multiple in your Springfield)
S.W.A.T. Van: $150,000- 10 points (unlocks at level 33, only 1 allowed in your Springfield)

Buildings:
Springfield Police Station: $40,500- 10 point (Also adds 1 point to Obedience. Unlocks at level 17, only 1 allowed in your Springfield)
Springfield Penitentiary: $46,000- 10 points (Also adds 1 point to Obedience. Unlocks at level 19, only 1 allowed in your Springfield)

So that’s only 40 points (if you only have 1 wall), what makes up the balance of the required Righteousness points? Well a few things actually:

-Spray painting your neighbor’s buildings (and having yours painted). Every building you “tag” causes your Righteousness rating to drop 5 points.

-Cleaning up your neighbor’s buildings (and your own) will raise your Righteousness rating by 1 point for every building you clean.

-Everyone’s favorite convict…Sideshow Bob (of course!) can impact your Righteousness rating. What did you think he was only in the game to annoy Bart? (and Bunny too!) When Sideshow Bob appears in your town, or a friends town your visiting, (10% chance of this happening) your Righteousness rating will drop 5 points. Every time you tap him and send him on his way? 1 point will be added back to your rating.

Righteousness is really a tricky thing in the game. With Sideshow Bob making appearances in your and your friends towns more frequently, sometimes this can really hit your rating hard.

The best way to get that rating high? Training Walls! The first addition to the game that impacts your righteousness rating and can be added multiple times. So when you start to see your stars dropping, add more training walls!

Hope this helps you all reach those 5 star towns!

  1. Hello fellow tsto players. A month ago a neighbour vandalized my town and my Righteousness rating went down to half a star. I’ve been waiting since then for my rating to go up by visiting neighbours and not vandalizing them but to no avail. What i did is i bought some Training Walls and instantly my rating went back to five stars. Yes the Training Walls works and it is located under Decorations. If i’m not wrong, i bought about 40 walls and they are cheap so nothing to worry about.

    • Yes, training walls are a great bet for righteousness. Just buy a ton of them and hide them behind houses and buildings and never worry about any neighbour spraying graffiti in your town.

  2. I think there is a common misconception that you need to build training walls to get your righteousness up. Mine is at the top and I only have the one wall needed for a quest. My rating dropped when a few friends I added for an event tagged my buildings (even though I added them from the non-tagging thread). However, after a week or so of normal play it came back. The same has happened a few times and it has always recovered without adding walls.
My theory is that some character tasks might affect righteousness, but I can’t be sure.

  3. Maybe they changed how this works recently because I don’t think this information is correct. I have a 5 star righteousness rating, and I got it by repeatedly capturing Sideshow Bob in Other Springfield. The trick is to figure out where he spawns in your version of Other Springfield. He always spawns at the same place, and then immediately starts running in a random direction, so you have to be quick.
When I first figured this out, he always spawned at my Squidport entrance. Then I leveled up and got a new version of Other Springfield, and it took a few tries to figure out he was now spawning at Calmwood Mental Hospital every time. Each time you hop into Other Springfield, he spawns again, so you can repeatedly capture him and watch your righteousness increase. Bonus is $50 for every capture.

  4. got all my stars in Conform-o-meter. Thank you, Wookie and Alissa. 🙂

  5. My rating for righteousness has suddenly dropped from 5 to 1 star I was tagged twice, but that’s all. I added 3 training walls and that didn’t make any difference. So I guess I din’t understand what’s happened. Do you have any ideas?

  6. Sometime when you have a spare moment, can you update the Righteousness post? A lot of the info is out of date and my rating has taken a big hit of late and would appreciate any new guidance you can provide. (I have lots of training walls).

One question I have: if someone tags you and it costs 5pts, but you only get 1pt for cleaning it, how do you ever get back to even without filling your town with more and more training walls?

  7. My training walls have disappeared from my store.. I bought a bunch when they first unlocked been they’re not in any of the lists in my game now.. my righteousness rating is a half star low and im unable to remedy it.

  8. What happens to your Righteousness rating when you unlock Sideshow Bob as a playable character?

  9. Hi all, after Sideshow Bob event my righteousness drop to 1/2 star, at this moment I have only 1 little tiny star, and have been so hard to earn that half; any help so I can have my 5 stars again?.
    Thanks a lot 🙂

  10. Have i lost my mind? I used to keep my rightousness rating up with the training walls – the red ones, but i can’t find them anymore in the shop?
    Is it just me?

  11. Check level 18 number?

  12. * * * RIGHTEOUSNESS * * *
    – Leave Graffiti on other Springfield and other towns = ~1 point.
    – Clean up Graffiti in your town from others = ~1 point.
    – Tap on Sideshow Bob in your town and others = 5 points.
    – Build Training Walls ($270) = 10 points each.
    – Build SWAT Van = 10 points.
    – Build Police Car = 10 points.
    – Build Police Station = 10 points.
    – Build Gaol \ Jail \ Penitentiary = 10 points.

You used to lose points when Sideshow Bob visited your town, but I tap on him maybe 3 times a week and i’ve had 5 stars for Righteousness for months! I also graffiti 10 towns a day. Zero issues! I have Police Station, Gaol\Jail, SWAT, Police Car, 3 Characters, and ONE Training Wall.

Above scores are approximate and changed recently in 2015. Previously you lost points with graffiti and Sideshow Bob. Who knows!

    p.s. VANITY EXPLAINED & HELP
Should I upload a spreadsheet I made in Excel that has ALL information on things Vantiy? I haven’t updated it for ~6 months, but it is still all relevant. 🙂

p.p.s. Krusty Burger, Gulp + Blow, Kwiki Mart – These appear to have reduced in price from $4,000 (I think?) to $200 or so… Krusty Burger down to $2,000. Why so cheap now? lol

    • TSTO gurus: could you check on and confirm this post? I noticed today that my level 14 town is at 4.5 Righteousness when it used to be 0 not long ago. I have encountered Sideshow Bob about 5-10 times in neighbor towns and tapped him. This would seem to support the math in this post. Also, the lose 1 point/gain 1 point balance for graffiti, if confirmed, would eliminate all hard feelings and argument on this subject – a potentially great public service.

      • They’re essentially repeating what we’ve said in the post above.

      • @Alissa
        Repeating?
Show me where all that information is in one place? Everyone seems to post such convoluted information, I thought I was making it clear to those who were asking?

        Just say thank you…

        • The post says….

It’s all written right in the post above where you commented. So when a reader was asking to check information I simply said you were agreeing with what we were saying, therefore no need to double check. It’s the same as it is above.

  13. My decorations tab disappeared in this latest update, so no extra training walls for me! Anyone else notice this?

  14. Are there only certain amount of training walls that a person can buy? I can’t seem to find it in my store anymore (currently level 39). Is it hidden somewhere that this partially blind person can’t see???

  15. I’ve had a few friends that have tagged me lately and this had no effect on my righteousness level. When I played first thing this morning, my righteousness rating went from 5 stars to half a star overnight. How does your rating drop so quickly? Does it lower your rating if you send Wiggum, Lou and Eddie on a task in Krustytown? (They weren’t on a task there overnight, though) Hmm.. I think I’m going to have to add more training walls and delete friends:

  16. Visit Other Springfield over and over find and collect Sideshow Bob. He spawns in the same area each time. This increases BOTH Socialism and Righteousness!

  17. This helped a lot, Alissa. Thanks! Do you actively play still? What is you screen name? I need to kick some of my inactive friends anyway 🙂 thanks for taking the time for all of these tutorials. They help us addicts 🙂

  18. I went on today and my 5 stars have dropped to half a star? is there any reason for this?

  19. There’s an error in this entry. For a long time we have NOT been able to clean up neighbors’ graffiti.

  20. Help! I am level 47. Righteousness meter dropped from 5 to 1/2 star overnight. I cannot find training walls anywhere. Walls options are only concrete, cobblestone, graffiti, civic only has buildings, and miscellany only has a training dummy. Did the walls go away? Where in the store can I find them? Thank you!

    • Finally, they appeared back in my decorations. Never mind! I don’t know what happened, but I am just grateful they showed back up! Thank you!

    • Same thing has happened to me! Was at 5 stars then down to half a star for no reason! Glitch?

      • As you level up the requirements to maintain a 5-star town increase. Also remember…every time you get spray painted, or spray paint someone…that’s a 5 point dip. And Sideshow Bob…every time you ignore him, not only in your town…but in neighbors towns as well…that’s a drop in 5 points as well.

  21. I only have 1 training wall, but I have completed my policeman collection by buying the police dog. I’m level 47 and my Righteous rating is 5 stars. Of course I have all of the related decorations and buildings listed in the original post.

  22. Sorry it was actually embezzle money, in either case does making my characters commit crimes affecting my righteousness?

    • No. The characters actions should not impact the rating. The dip could come from a change in the level requirements…and just coincide with the task.

  23. I’m level 25 and have had a strong rating for righteousness until I started “collecting bribes” can you confirm this affects the rating or am I mistaken?

  24. My righteousness rating was 5 stars, but I just leveled up today to level 20, and it went down to half a star instantly. Is that normal?

  25. I’m pretty certain that it’s possible for the righteousness number to max out and “roll over” (overflow) from a large number to zero. A programmer should check the codebase. I had righteousness go from five starts to zero *due to catching Sideshow Bob*. If this happens don’t worry about it and just start pushing the number up again.

    • Interesting, not something I’ve experienced in my time tapping. My rating has always been at 5 stars no matter how many points I add. I’ve never seen it roll over.

      • maybe that’s what happened to me. I had my town finally maxed out at 5 stars & all of a sudden my righteousness level plummeted to 1 star overnight. It happened after an appearance of sideshow bob. none of my buildings are tagged, I don’t tag others. While I only have 1 training wall, I have all the other buildings required. this is driving me nuts.

  26. I’m not at level 33 yet, so the training wall option isn’t open to me yet. Up until a few days ago, I found that Sideshow Bob would always be in my “other springfield” right by the Quidport, I would just enter that town, tap him, and then exit and enter again and tap him till I was back at five stars.
But now he’s gone! Any other ways for us who haven’t reached level 33? Needless to say, I have stopped doing graffiti on my neighbors until I can find a way to get that rating back up.
    thanks!

    • Sadly, those walls are the only thing that really can help to prevent the change. I know it may be frustrating, but without them mine would drop over and over. No matter how many times I sent people to jail, cleaned up graffiti, or caught Sideshow. So I just kinda gave up on that rating until I hit 33 and could place the walls.

      • Louis Trapani

Thanks for the tip. My Righteousness meter recently went from 5 stars to a ½ star a couple of days ago (it’s up to 1 star now). It had happened once before. I had assumed it was due to many friends putting graffiti on my buildings. I try to clean it it ASAP, but sometimes I’m not quick enough, I guess. I have one wall. So now I suppose I will add more (I’ll probably try to hide them so not to clutter up my town). I’ve seen Louie & Legs to jail to no avail… I was going to send Snake there (but it’s a 24 hour job for him). If that doesn’t help the meter reading, then I’m not going to bother.

        • Training walls, i’ve always found, are the best bet. I’ve got them hidden all over my Springfield 🙂

        • I tried for weeks to play around and attempt a lot of methods to keep it maxed at 5. No luck at all. Once I placed the walls (created 3D structures with them and/or hid them) I never saw it drop again.

Out of all the conforms…righteousness is still the one I just could not figure out the cause and effects. So, walls. Lol. 😉

  27. I know some people don’t like the new graffiti for FP but I think it had to change how this rating is calculated. Since the FP launch I have tagged every building I see & have had my buildings tagged dozens of times. I never had a 5-star rating until this started & I’ve been maxed out since. =)

    • Do you have a lot of training walls?

      • I’ve had 5 stars for a long time and suddenly today I’m at 1 star. What the heck? It seemed so easy until now.

        • As the levels get higher, you are required to maintain a higher count of points for each Conform area. If you have recently leveled up, it will change your max you need. Also, with this event there is a LOT of vandalism involved. Encouraged even. Vandalism drops your rating points drastically. 5 points at a time. Where cleaning only brings it up one at a time.

The way I have found around this is to place training walls around my Springfield. Since doing this, my rating has never fallen under 5 again. Alissa explains it more here… http://tstoaddicts.com/2014/02/27/the-art-of-friendship-vandalizing/

Let us know if this helps. 😉

  28. Woohoo!!!…I added nine or so awhile back just to fart around with…not knowing this info , thanks Alissa…nrn.

  29. I added training walls. Worked like a charm!!

  30. I have never got my rating to stay on 5, i will try more training walls

    • Training walls are the way to go with this. I’ve always had issues, but since adding training walls it’s stayed at a solid 5 (and they’re only $270, so not a bad price for something that helps keep your rating high)!
