Midnight ramble: 3-eyed Sushi? Nah… I’ll take poison… poison… tasty fish.

Hi everybody!

Wow… busy day, eh? Lots of words put out there today by myself and other bloggers. Amonst all the screenshots and commentaries, we got some great info about the Season 25 Episode 1 tie-in decorations. You can read Alissa’s take on them here.

With word of Three-Eyed Sushi for Squidport and Hi-Glow Waste Barrels (Nature Tested… EPA approved), hopefully I wasn’t alone when I went off to the web (JUST LIKE LISA) to see if I could find more info on these other than what the TSTO datafrakers could find. (spAndex has a great pic of these decs if your interested)

Seems these decorations are purely from the episode which hasn’t been released yet. Some creative folks have made images previously connecting Blinky with sushi so it’s not exactly “original”, but what ever is? I can tell you one thing though, my furry behind will be firmly planted in my wroshyr treehouse for the Season 25 premier to see these items and how they fit.

Since there’s nothing to blab about regarding these, I figured I could bore/entertain you with one of my favorite subjects besides The Simpsons… food. Even better than that, my favorite kind of food… sushi. What’s that you say? Our towns already have a sushi restaurant aka The Swanky Fish? Well, yes and no. There actually is quite a difference between Japanese Restaurants that serve authentic cuisine (the category Swanky falls in to) and a sushi restaurant. You’ll just have to trust me. I’m no expert on Japan, but living there for 6 years and loving their cuisine provided me a skoshi of insight.

Alright… Sushi. Delicious cold rice flavored with vinegar. It can be topped with raw fish or wrapped in seaweed with whatever deliciousness you desire but usually more raw fish, vegetables, and/or egg (or cream cheese which is totally an American influence). Not to be confused with sashimi which is the fish by itself, thinly sliced for your enjoyment.

Ok, wondering why I’m rambling away again? Well, IMO The Simpsons should already have had a sushi restaurant well before the Swanky Fish (SwF) and definitely before Blinky Rolls. Although the SwF is more recent and comes from Season 24, Episode 17 (What Animated Women Want), sushi in The Simpsons goes way back to Season 2, Episode 11 (One Fish, Two Fish, Blowfish, Blue Fish).

In this episode, Homer and the family go to The Happy Sumo.

If you’ve ever been to an authentic sushi restaurant, you’d know why I love when the chefs scare the family by yelling at them.

This brings back so many fond memories of Okinawa for me (and not because of the Karate Kid II lol). When you enter a Japanese business (but especially a sushi bar), the staff or chefs yell incoherently at you. Although it may seem inaudible, they are enthusiastically saying “Irasshaimase“, which basically means, “Come on in!” The first time this is hollered at you can be a little startling but eventually you come to love it and even giggle when you hear it in other media i.e. The Simpson or Monsters, Inc.

Of course, the sushi bar hostess advises The Simpsons not to be alarmed and that the chefs are just saying hello. Gotta love that Homer yells right back at them. Priceless.

With normal gluttonous dexterity, Homer tries out a lot on the menu, including fugu (literally translated as river pig but the Japanese word for the pufferfish), which if not prepared correctly can be quite deadly. (Definitely not boasting but I have tried this twice. Suffice to say one too many Duff beers was involved.)

Of course, the master sushi chef is attending to a “personal” matter with Edna Krabappel when this is ordered so his apprentice is who prepares Homer’s dish. I love this scene.

Don’t do it Homie!!! Yeah, right… like Homer listens to any one.

The rest of the episode revolves around Homer thinking he’s dying and is really entertaining. Before I go, I’d just like to point out one character from that last image.

image

If you don’t know who this is… it is Akira, a character I would really love to see in the game. He made his first appearance in this episode but has appeared in many others. Just a few highlights are helping Homer with the vibrating chair at Mr. Costington’s, explaining the Mr. Sparkle origins, teaching karate to Bart and, most recently, working at the Swanky Fish.

Originally voiced by the one and only Mr. Sulu aka George Takei, in recent episodes the voice duties were taken over by Hank Azaria. This means if we ever got Akira as a character, he could be voiced! I seriously hope this is on EA’s radar. Anywho, time for bed. Night Addicts!

  1. Wow I am reading this in 2017

  2. Any chance Kumiko will make a comeback since this guy has a joint task with her? I was about a week late for the Married to the Blob promotional.

  3. Well it took almost a year but akira and the happy sumo is here!

  4. I just realized my mom doesn’t have three eyed Sushi in her inventory…when I started the game back in Sept, the Sushi place was in my inventory even before I had thr boardwalk, so I assumed it’s something that comes with everybody’s boardwalk. How do you get the Sushi stand? Does she have to get to a certain place, is it from a Mystery box, or was it a limited time item? Help! My mom is jealous of my awesome Sushi stand. 😉

    • It was a free limited-time item that came with the Season 25 premiere (Sept). Once the episode was over it was no longer available. So if your mom started after the episode tie-in event, unfortunately, she can’t get it.

  5. How come I can put the three-eyed sushi in the grass

    • I assume you mean can’t? The item was made specifically for Squidport. So it is only allowed to be placed there just like the other Squidport buildings. It would be nice to be able to move them more freely.

  6. He could come with Bart in a karate costume
