Addicts How To: Using Dropbox to Upload TSTO Screenshots

I’ve noticed a few questions in the comments about how to share your photos on Addicts and what the best method is.  Personally I’m playing Tapped Out on an Android platform, although I will occasionally play on an iOS device as well, and use Dropbox for uploading.  While I know there are many other apps out there to help you upload your photos, I prefer Dropbox.  I’ve been using it for a while now so I’ve built up a fair amount of free storage and it’s my application of choice when it comes to backing up my photos or uploading my screenshots.  So today I wanted to go over a step by step guide on using Dropbox to upload and share your photos.

First, if you don’t already have an account with Dropbox you can set one up at their website (dropbox.com).  The accounts are free and come with 2GB of storage.  You’ll also earn free “bonus” storage space when you refer friends and download the PC application (like I said earlier, I’ve been using it for quite a while now and with all of my referrals I currently have about 6GB of free storage with them.  Not a bad deal for a free application!)  If you need help creating an account they have videos and a guided step by step process on their website.

So assuming you’ve already setup your account and are good to go let’s get into the finer details of how to share your photos.  It’s important to note that there are different methods when using an iOS device and an Android device.  Both devices have different ways to upload your files, so I will discuss each method separately.  Since I use an Android device I’ll start with that…

Android Platform

First thing I like to do is setup my application so it’s easy to see everything and all of my TSTO Screenshots are organized on one place.  In order to do that you’ll want to create a new folder in your Dropbox application to send you screen shots to.
To create a new folder simply press the menu button on your Android phone (usually on the left side of the “home” button. Looks like a box with lines in it) and the menu list will appear, tap New Folder.

A “Create New Folder” box will appear on your phone.  Type in what you’d like to call your new folder, for mine I labeled it TSTO Screenshots, and tap create.
2013-09-27 09.09.34

It will create the folder and once done it will automatically open the new folder you just created.  It should look something like this…
2013-09-27 09.11.30Now you can go ahead and close out of your Dropbox application.  From here you’ll want to open your gallery to load your screenshots.  (Note: Android devices automatically save screenshots to your gallery in a separate folder marked screen shots.  If you need help with screenshots, how to, check out our post on that here).
2013-09-27 10.04.12Find the shot you’d like to upload to dropbox.  In this example we’ll use a shot of my Three-Eyed Sushi stand.  From here you’ll want to tap the share button (on my phone it’s on the top of the screen and looks like a sideways V).
2013-09-27 10.05.22

A new box will appear saying Share via.  You’ll want to select the Add to Dropbox icon.
2013-09-27 10.06.52Note: On my phone it automatically adds a dropbox icon to my gallery, arrow is pointing to how the icon looks in the screenshot image above.  If it does it for you as well (the little blue box in the top) you can just tap on that and skip the 2 steps above.

Again a new box will appear asking you to choose your location.  Find the folder you created in the step above and tap on that.  That folder will open and just tap on the green Add button.
2013-09-27 10.08.31Your image is now uploaded to your dropbox!  But how do you get it off of your phone and onto TSTOAddicts?  Well let’s break it down…

You’ll want to go to your Apps and find your Dropbox App on your phone.  Open the app and find your screenshot folder.  Tap on it to open it up.  Find the image you want to share and tap the arrow to the right of the item.
2013-09-27 10.12.35Once you tap it a long black box will appear.  Tap on the share button (all the way to the left in the box, and again looks like a sideways V).
2013-09-27 10.13.10

Yet another new box will appear titled Share a link to this file.  You want to tap the very first option Copy Link.   This AUTOMATICALLY copies the link to your clipboard so you’ll only need to paste it when ready.
2013-09-27 10.14.26Now you’ll want to go to your favorite Tapped Out site…TSTOAddicts.com of course!….and find whichever post you want to attach your screen shot to.  Find the comment section and fill out the information as you normally would.
2013-09-27 10.16.52However in the comment box you’ll want to paste your link.  To do this just tap and hold your finger down until a small box appears that says paste.
2013-09-27 10.17.42Select the paste button and your link will be pasted into the comment box!
2013-09-27 10.18.22All that’s left to do now is hit post comment and you’re done!  Your Springfield screenshot can now be share with your fellow Addicts!

iOS
Note: I don’t have my iPad with me today so I’ve pulled these images from Dropbox’s website.

Using Apple devices is a little bit trickier when it comes to sharing links via Dropbox.  However, you’ll want to start the same way as the Android platform.  First thing I like to do is setup my application so it’s easy to see everything and all of my TSTO Screenshots are organized on one place.  In order to do that you’ll want to create a new folder in your Dropbox application to send you screen shots to.  To do this tap on the 3 dots at the top of the application and select Create folder.

A “Create New Folder” box will appear on your phone.  Type in what you’d like to call your new folder, for mine I labeled it TSTO Screenshots, and tap create.

From here you’ll want take your screenshots in your game.  (Note: If you need help with screenshots, how to, check out our post on that here).  Once you’ve take the screenshots you wanted, here’s the big different between iOS and Android, open your Dropbox application back up.  Find the folder you just created and tap on it.  From there tap the + sign on the top right side of the screen & select Upload Here.

Now you’ll need to just follow the onscreen instructions and select the album where your screenshots are located.  Then select the screenshot you want to upload and tap the Upload Button (represented by a + sign, and it says the word upload underneath it).

Congratulations your image is now on your Dropbox!  So now how do you get it from your Dropbox to the Addicts website?  Let’s take a look…

1)      Find the image you’d like to share and Swipe from left to right over the file name to reveal a set of icons.
iphonedropbox4

2)      Tap the icon that shows an arrow coming out of a box (represents share on iOS devices).

3)      Select the Copy Link to Clipboard option and it will AUTOMATICALLY save to your clipboard.

Now you can follow the same instructions as with the Android platform and go to your favorite Tapped Out site…TSTOAddicts.com of course!….and find whichever post you want to attach your screen shot to.  Find the comment section and fill out the information as you normally would.  However in the comment box you’ll want to paste your link.  To do this just tap and hold your finger down until a small box appears that says paste.

Select the paste button and your link will be pasted into the comment box!

All that’s left to do now is hit post comment and you’re done!  Your Springfield screenshot can now be share with your fellow Addicts!

Hopefully this has helped you to share your town with other Tappers!  If you have any questions or problems feel free to leave them in the comment section below and we’ll answer them as best we can!
