4th of July has arrived in Springfield! But, with that limited-time label it may be overwhelming trying to decide which items to buy and what to pass on. . But, have no fear! That’s where we come in to tell you what’s worth your donuts & what you might want to hold off on.
Today, July 4th, several premium items were brought back from 4th of July 2013. Wondering if you should add these rockets red glare to your Springfield? Well before you hit that confirm spend button, let’s break down the pros and cons of adding this American swag to your Springfield….
Decoration: Lisa Statue
Donut Price: 75 Donuts
Dimensions: 3×3
Bonus: 2.75% bonus to all cash and xp
Unique: Yes, only 1 per Springfield
Can Be Placed: Anywhere in Springfield and Squidport (just not IN the water)
Conform-O-Meter: Obedience +10
Pros:
-Awesome decoration that adds some USA style to Springfield
-2.75% is a sweet bonus on all cash and XP
-Returning decoration from 4th of July 2013
Cons:
-10 donut increase from last year’s price.
-No animation/tasks associated with it. Basically it just sits there.
Final Thought:
This is something I purchased last year during this event, and I have NEVER regretted it! It’s sitting on a “barge” in my Springfield with fireworks around it. Really makes it look awesome! For me this is a great buy, but not a MUST buy. If you’re short on donuts you may want to pass at this one and save them for another item with more animations.

Donut Price: 60 Donuts
Dimensions: 3×3
Bonus: 2.25% bonus to all cash and xp
Unique: No, you can have as many as you want in your Springfield.
Can Be Placed: Anywhere in Springfield and Squidport (just not IN the water)
Conform-O-Meter: Vanity +600
Pros:
-Awesome decoration that adds some USA style to Springfield
-2.25% is a nice bonus on all cash and XP
-Returning decoration from 4th of July 2013
-Fun firework animation when tapped
Cons:
-10 donut increase from last year’s price.
-Animation is quick
-Expensive for just a box of fireworks
Final Thought:
This is something I purchased last year during this event, and I have NEVER regretted it! They’re currently around the Lisa Statue in my Springfield. I like this decoration because of the added firework fun, however this might not be for you. 60 donuts is still a hefty price tag, especially if you’re a freemium player. So think carefully about this one before you pull that trigger, this may be a pass for most players.

Donut Price: 40 Donuts
Dimensions: 2×2
Bonus: 2% bonus to all cash and xp
Unique: No, you can have as many as you want in your Springfield.
Can Be Placed: Anywhere in Springfield and Squidport (just not IN the water)
Conform-O-Meter: Vanity +400
Pros:
-Awesome decoration that adds some USA style to Springfield
-2% is a nice bonus on all cash and XP
-Returning decoration from 4th of July 2013
-Spins around and shoots off “ground” fireworks when tapped.
Cons:
-10 donut increase from last year’s price.
-Animation is quick
Final Thought:
This is something I purchased last year during this event, and I have NEVER regretted it! I currently have several all along my beachfront. However, while I have a ton of them, I realize it might not be for everyone. 40 donuts is still a big donut price, so this may be something you’ll want to sit on and/or hold off on.
Character/Costume: All American Apu
Donut Price: 30 Donuts
Pros:
-Premium character, earns 50% more cash and xp on all tasks
-A skin for Apu, the only one in the game so far.
-A whole new set to tasks for Apu, and some are pretty funny!
Cons:
-This was free last year
-Kind of falls out of place with the event with out Rex Banner too
-Only two tasks are outdoor tasks
Final Thought:
I’m on the fence with this one. While I currently have the costume in my Springfield, I got it last year, it’s one I hardly use. When I remember I have it I giggle at Apu’s attempts to follow sports teams, but for the most part it sits unused. That being said I’ve already had it for a year…many of you might not have him yet and are looking for some new tasks for Apu. If that’s the case than this is a great buy for you.
Of course in the end I can’t tell you what to do, I can only tell you what I would do (or have done.) and in the case with this costume I’d most likely spend donuts on it.

As always my advice on freemium limited-time items is to BUY BUY BUY. Get everything you can (Although only 1 Liberty Bell can be purchased) and stock up!

Oh super annoyed I spent 5 doughnuts on an American flag last week when the ones available today is larger and available for $. D’oh!
So I don’t have Rex and the diner yet. I’ve been playing freemium style so I only have 97 donuts. Should I keep saving or spent the 90 on Rex? What’s his quest line and tasks if you didn’t already have him?
We’re going to wait and see what happens when he hits the game tomorrow before we do a Should I Buy. Not sure how it will all play out tomorrow with him. 🙂

I really like the flags…I’ve been putting them on the roofs of all my government buildings, ( well, BEHIND them actually, but gives the illusion they are attached to the top).

Yeah I got jusr about everything last year and have enjoyed it. I never got old honest Abe though and I’m so glad he is back. I picked up George Washington and now definitely getting Abe. Thanks you guys for the great info as always.

I’m debating on whether i should buy donuts or not… i wish ya got more donut bang for your buck or things cost less donuts. I would like to have the Lisa Statue and i really want the Lincoln cabin and Lincoln character that will be coming out on the 11th. That will be premium, hu?
Yes. This is 3rd time Lincoln was brought into the game. All 3 times he cost donuts.
Why do you want to stock up on freemium items?
It is for those of us that like to decorate our Springfields with them. Many were sad they didn’t get them last time round.
I ended up buying the pinwheel this year, was on the fence last year. Lincoln started my descent into buying donuts last year, but I wanted so many other items than the pinwheel last year. At least the 5 free this year as well as the bonus donuts after earning all FPs has pretty much negated the 10 extra for this year! 😃 Glad I was around last year at this time, especially since I spent a lot of donuts on TOH and Christmas of 2012 items that I missed out due to playing on a Droid.

What about the Fireworks Barge? After tapping one in another Springfield I was disappointed by the lackluster display of fireworks. Is it worth it just for the bonus percentage?

Okay, I watched it again tonight. Ha, I had forgotten all about the fireworks side story until I started watching it again. You’re right, it makes more sense now.
What about the Fireworks Barge? I tapped it in another Springfield and was disappointed by the underwhelming fireworks display.

Alissa, thanks for sharing what you did the Statue of Lisa and the Crate of Fireworks. You inspired me to do the same, creating a “barge” for it in the water. I really like it. The crate creates the fireworks animation I was looking for to display for the Fouth. Thanks again.

Pretty much bought it all except for Lisa. I love the flags & bought several 🙂 Now I just need to remodel some of my town so I can tie it all together as far as the fireworks, etc. I absolutely LOVE the animation of Giuseppe’s Workshop!

All of the premium items are priced too high for me. They seem really expensive for what you get. I really hate the whole price increase from last year thing too. I did buy a Liberty Bell, but wish I hadn’t. I am saving up for the courthouse and was very close to getting it. I was half asleep playing this morning and thought the bell was only 5,000 not 50,000. DOH!
