Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

4th of July has arrived in Springfield!  But, with that limited-time label it may be overwhelming trying to decide which items to buy and what to pass on. . But, have no fear! That’s where we come in to tell you what’s worth your donuts & what you might want to hold off on.

Well it’s July 11th which means…the final two items of the 4th of July event unlock today!   Wondering if you should add Rex and Abe to your Springfield?  Well before you hit that confirm spend button, let’s break down the pros and cons of adding these American heroes to your Springfield…. (wait since when is GI Joe in the game?! 😉 )

Rex Banner TSTO
Nighthawk Diner TSTO

Character/Building: Rex Banner & the Nighthawk Diner
Donut Price: 90 Donuts
Dimensions: 4×7
Payout: $500/45xp every 24hrs
Conform-O-Meter: Gluttony +10

Pros:
-Premium character (now), earns 50% more cash and xp on all tasks.
-90 Donuts isn’t a bad price for a character/building combo
-Comes with a questline (and for those asking, you do NOT need All American Apu to complete it…the Apu parts will just go to regular Apu)
-Interrogate Flanders task is one of my absolute favorites in the game
-Nighthawk diner has a cool retro look to it.

Cons:
-It was free last year
-Not voiced
-No character interaction once his main questline is complete.
-His best task (interrogate Flanders) requires Flanders, so that’s 2 characters tied up for 8hrs.

Final Thoughts:
I love Rex Banner.  This is something I have from last year during this event, and I admit I often make him interrogate Flanders, just for giggles!  The diner sits in my Springfield by itself, and I really like the look.  It’s a building that can hold it’s own & it makes me smile whenever I see it. Even though this was free last year, I still think it’s a GREAT buy this year.  90 donuts for a character/building combo is rare in this game…it’s definitely one you may want to jump on!  Plus you never know…Halloween 2014 might have Rex possessed again like 2013… 😉

You can check out Rex’s Walkthrough here…and as I mentioned above you do NOT need All American Apu to complete it.

Rex Banner’s Tasks:

Task Length Earns Requires
Shop at Kwik-E-Mart 1hr $105, 26xp Kwik-E-Mart
Eat a Banana Kaboom 4hrs $260, 70xp Outside
Interrogate Flanders 8hrs $695, 175xp Flanders/Outside
Stake Out the Kwik-E-Mart 12hrs $600, 150xp Kwik-E-Mart

This Should I Buy for Lincoln was previously posted back in February…here’s a condensed version.  For the original check out this post.

Abraham-Lincoln lincolnscabin_menu

Character/Building: Abe Lincoln and his Log Cabin
Donut Price: 150 Donuts
Dimensions: 4×7
Payout: $200/22xp every 8hrs
Conform-O-Meter: Indolence +10

Pros:
-Premium character, earns 50% more cash and xp on all tasks
-Neat looking log cabin, nicely fits in any woodsy areas of your Springfield.
-Building is animated, smoke comes out of the chimney.
-Great outside tasks, including splitting rails & walking around Springfield looking like a tourist in Disney World.
-Comes with his own questline
-It’s Abe Lincoln!

Cons:
-At 150 donuts he’s quite the expensive purchase
-Not voiced, aside from a few groans
-After initial questline he has no interaction with any other characters
-A bit of a random character to be dropped in Springfield

Final Thought:
I am in the must buy camp on Lincoln.  He’s one of my favorite characters and I snatched him up last July when he made his first appearance.  His cabin is a nice addition to my woodsy area (with my Brown Houses, Kamp Krusy & Fort Sensible) and you can often find him splitting rails back there in my Springfield.  It’s just such a unique character to add to Springfield.  Plus every time I have him “Attempt to Blend In” I imagine him wondering around Disney World as a cheesy tourist.  Thus it combines my two favorite things…TSTO & Disney 🙂

Lincoln’s Tasks:

Task Length  Earns Requires
Get a Beard Trim 1hr $105,26xp Jake’s Unisex Hair
Give a Public Address 4hrs $260, 70xp Townhall/ Outside
Split Rails 8hrs $420, 105xp Lincoln’s Cabin/Outside
Coach Springfield Elementary Debate Team 12hrs $600, 150xp Springfield Elementary
Attempt to Blend in 24hrs $1,000, 225xp Outside

Whatever items you decide to purchase just remember they’re all LIMITED-TIME, so come July 16th they availability to purchase them will be gone!  So choose wisely!

You can find info on the other 4th of July items on our 4th of July Event Page here

What do YOU think of Rex and Abe?  Will you be making the purchases?  Or did you already have them from last year?  Sound off in the comments below, you know we LOVE hearing from you!

  1. I just bought the Nighthawk Diner,
I’ve passed on it before, but I’ve always liked the look of it, slightly art-decco

    😁🇬🇧

  2. If you have the doughnuts buy buy buy.

Both have outdoor tasks. Cool building and look good.

in my beta town i bought Alien 51 ss i thought i would get the stonecutters table which i didnt get wish i had waited for Abe.

  3. I was crazy excited to have the chance to get Rex as I just missed the wacking day event last year. The prohibition episode is one of my all time favourites and every time I see Rex Banner wandering my Springfield I hear lines from the episode in my head. 🙂

  4. Good old Abe is splitting rails in my town right now…had I realized Rex plus the diner was only 90 donuts, I might have made a different decision, but as a strictly freemium player, I still don’t regret using those hard-earned donuts for Abe.

I did well enough during Stonecutters to the point where I could get All American Apu, but he’s kinda in the Rex category – sure, it would pay out premium now but it was free last year. Besides, I’m mildly bummed that Apu is not wearing a NY (prounouced Nye!) Mets jersey – I know, I know, Isotopes, but still…anyway, I’ll save my remaining donuts for now and have fun with Abe in the meantime.

Nothing against George, and his tree looks great (not to mention the multiplier!), but there are other characters I’d choose at that price point first, limited or not.

  5. Could u possibly tell me when the 4th of July update will end I only have 30 sprinkled doughnuts and wondering if I should buy the apu coustum or wait to c if I can get some more for the cherry tree or ssomething else

  6. I don’t like this precedent of previously free items being brought back for donuts. Granted, 90 donuts is a great deal for a character with a building, but still, it was free before. I’ve wanted Rex Banner since I started the game, so I immediately spent the donuts on him anyway, but I dunno. It feels like EA is getting a bit more greedy with the higher costs on new premium items and bringing back old free items as premium.

    • I have a feeling it was also done to not upset those that feel it is unfair to bring back items as they want to have “special” items in their towns for being around at that time and playing. But I get what you mean.

      • Problem is while old players are great and should be treated it is new players that expand the business.
I think you probably give EA to much credit though, it is clearly a chance to get more money.
If new players are put off then updates come less frequently, so it’s a slippery slope.

        • They still followed the same pattern where it was 1 freemium character and 1 premium character for the update, they just decided to bring back the old characters from 4th of July 2014 as an option if you wanted them. Yea, it stinks that they cost donuts, but they’re giving away so many free donuts these days for many people it’s completely free anyway. The other thing they could have done is not bring them back at all…I think that would have ticked off new players more than anything.
It’s not like new players are getting cheated out of anything. St. Patrick’s day was a bit of a joke because they did not release a new character, only re-released the same freemium character from 2013. Personally I’d rather see the 4th of July model, where there is new content and old items re-released, than the St. Patrick’s Day model, where it’s all old content re-released & the only new stuff is premium.
But that’s just this Addicts opinion 🙂

I went ahead and bought both of these. I love the 50s vibe of the diner and Rex. And there was no way I could pass on Lincoln. I’d admired him and his cabin when I visited my neighbors’ towns. Buying Lincoln, of course, meant that I had to buy Washington, too. No regrets on any of them.

I’m planning on working my way up to Barney’s bowling alley next. I hope they’ll have a donut sale soon. 🙂

  8. Homer Simpson and the blue haired lawyer

Remember when the celebrities attacked springfeilds killing people like Carl and Edna and Bob in treehouse of horror I’d love a task where Washington and Lincoln were marrying

  9. I can’t bring myself to get them. I am saving up for Barney (or Stu or Scorpio) and am fairly close. I am not sure I will ever get over 200 donuts again. I also don’t like the idea of them becoming premium currency. Just trying to catch up is punishment enough for not starting the game earlier. Now if this was Kang and Kodos or another favorite character it would be a different story.

  10. My oh my!! Decisions- should I spend donuts on one of these characters or a character like Barney?? Please HELP!!!

    • Only true advice I can give is to consider that these are limited time. Barney will be around for a while. ALso good to think you can almost get both for the price of just one.

    • Hard choices…I can’t tell you what to do but what I can say is Barney is an awesome character, but he’ll still be there on July 17th…these guys won’t. Sometimes it’s easier to make a choice based on what will still be around and what won’t be. 🙂

  11. Some guy I would defs go 4 abe cause Rex will probably be around next year. Maybe for cash again that would be nice………. ok… I admit it would be awesome but once again the desicion is yours. I would just buy 300 donuts so for the next update u still have some donuts in ur pocket😆😆😆!!!!!

  12. I bought both!!! I am happy EA brings back limited items for newer players…such as myself, Do u have any idea of when the Fort Sensible was added and also Springfield Falls? As I am a completionist and I so badly want these for my wooded area!!! Thank You!!!

  13. I was just so excited that EA brought Rex back. I loved the Diner look. I’ve only been a Tapper since march so this was a must have item for me.

I bought the Lincoln cabin because of how cool it looks. Need to work on a whole forest scene. Probably will get Kamp Krusty to wrap it all up.

Now that the Stonecutters event is done I have a little time to play around and rearrange my town.

  14. I bought Nighthawk right away! I’ve been waiting for Rex since Presidents Day when Lincoln was rereleased! I bought Lincoln then and I’m happy I bought Rex now! I’m just on the fence about Washington…

  15. I want rex but if I spend the doughnuts the next update will have something I want more. And after playing non stop for the last two events and still not getting all the prizes, I am still a little too bitter to start putting real money into the game again. So I am holding off on spending my last 200 doughnuts. As for abe, I like to keep my Springfield a little more realistic (because im clearly insane) so I don’t usually get the themed characters.

  16. JamesBrewski69

“Nighthawks” by Edward Hopper may be my all-time favorite painting so I had to have it and Rex Banner, who features in one of my favorite episodes. Perhaps some day he will thwart the Beer Baron

    *no he wont*

    • DaGogglesDoNothn

Haha, well said. I feel the same way. Hopper plus Banner might lead me to make my first non-freemium purchase.

  17. Do you think Kodos will be available on Halloween? I have 160 donuts and wanted her ever since I started playing last Halloween!
I also want the ray gun and the crashed UFOs. 😉

  18. I saw a neighbor with Rex Banner about a week after I started playing back in october and been wanting him ever since. He comes from one of my top 5 favorite episodes, as soon as I woke up today I bought him. As for Abe, I got him the last time he was around and I love his bleding in task. Think both characters are well worth it.

  19. I wasn’t playing TSTO last July so for me, this was a must.

What I like most about the diner, is that it makes a great corner piece for a row of buildings, much like the pub. While true Rex interrogating Flanders takes up two people for 8 hours, its a decent payout plus its humour makes it forgivable. I wish there were more character interactions like that.

I am planning a woodland area too, so Lincolns cabin fits perfect with Cletus’ farm and Nelsons house. All I need is Crazy Cat Lady and Kamp Krusty to complete it. Shame ive only 29 donuts left (1 short of American Apu, damn you hindsight!)

  20. I started playing just after July 4th last year, so I was always so jealous whenever I saw Rex Banner walking around my friend’s towns. Really glad they brought him back and at a decent price. I also got pretty lucky: I only had 40 donuts, but was able to get another 50 from a golden scratcher on my first try!

  21. Man, I only have 153 donuts. This helped, but I still want both of them :c

    • decisions, decisions…it’s a rough one. Let us know which one you decide on! 🙂

      • Gaah, hardest decision I’ve had to make in a long time. In the end I chose… Rex Banner! He would fit in nicely with my Springfield and at the cheaper price, I am halfway there to the next premium character that should be coming out soon. I’ll miss you, Abe, but come next president’s day I’m sure to see you again. And bring your buddies Gerald Ford and Bill Clinton with you, K?
