It’s Yard Sale time in Springfield & what’s old is once new again! But, with that limited-time label, and the added pressure of these being some highly coveted items, it may be overwhelming trying to decide which items to buy and what to pass on. But, have no fear! That’s where we come in to tell you what’s worth your donuts & what you might want to hold off on.
So far we’ve broken down the pros and cons of the Mayan Bundles, so now let’s take a look at the other costumes/skins of the 2014 Summer Yard Sale.
Wondering if you should add Bare Chested Willie, Gorgeous Grampa or Ninja Homer to your Springfield ? Well before you hit that confirm spend button, let’s break down the pros and cons of adding theses alternate skins for your characters…..
Costume: Bare Chested Willie
Donut Price: 60 Donuts
Comes With: No extra buildings/decorations.
Pros:
-A fun costume for Willie, with great outdoor tasks.
-Costume turns a freemium character into a premium character, with premium payouts (50% more cash and xp on all tasks)
-Returning from Whacking Day 2013…may players may have missed out on him.
-Has a small questline attached.
Cons:
-Was free first time around. Well he could be won with the event currency.
-60 Donuts is a steep price to pay for just a skin.
Final Thought:
This is something I’ve had in my town since Whacking Day. I’m on the fence about actually purchasing him. 60 donuts is a steep price, but he’s got a lot of fun outdoor animations AND it turns a freemium character into a premium character. So it allows for higher payouts on his tasks. This is one of the cheaper skins for this event, so if you’re looking for a premium character payout, for not a lot of donuts this might be a great choice for you!

-Returning from a 2013 Episode Tie-in…may players may have missed out on him.
-Has a small questline attached.
Cons:
-Was free when initially released during the Episode Tie-In
-Expensive Price for just a skin.
Final Thought:
This is something I’ve had in my town since the tie-in episode. I’m on the fence about actually purchasing him. 75 donuts is a huge price to pay for a costume for Grampa, but he’s got a lot of fun outdoor animations AND it turns a freemium character into a premium character. It also gives you an outside 1hr task for Grampa (which is hilarious)..vs his regular 1hr task that’s inside. This is the second cheapest skin for this event, so if you’re looking for a premium character payout, for not a lot of donuts this might be a great choice for you!

Pros:
-Another skin for Homer with some fun/silly outdoor tasks
-Costume turns a freemium character into a premium character, with premium payouts (50% more cash and xp on all tasks)
-Returning from a 2013 Whacking Day…may players may have missed out on him.
-Price decreased from when it was originally offered, by 20 donuts.
-Comes with a snake for added conform-o-meter points & bonus %
Cons:
-No Questline with it
-Only 2 outdoor tasks for Homer with this Skin
-Many costumes, that were free, already turn Homer into a premium earner (like Mr. Plow)
-Practice Snake is very small & can be hard to see in Springfield.
Final Thought:
This is something I purchased last year during Whacking Day, but honestly not a costume I often put Homer in. 100 Donuts, even if it is reduced, is an steep price to pay for ANOTHER costume for Homer and a tiny snake and it doesn’t offer a huge bonus payout. In my opinion, this is one I would pass on for this event.

My best advice for ALL of the items in the Yard Sale, is to see what other items you might be coveting during the Yard Sale and weigh each option BEFORE you make any purchases. The “sale” ends August 4th…so you have some time to make up your mind about what you want to do. 🙂

Such a shame I just got bare chested Willie from the mystery box of this event and he came with no quest line which was really disappointing
I regret not getting Bare Chested Willie now that I’ve seen him doing the laundry in a friend’s town. I hope I’ll get another chance!

Not sure what kinds of “yard sales” the folks at EA go to but these prices don’t seem like much of a sale. I’ll pass – maybe offer them 35 cents for that matter transporter.
Lol. Yard Sale in the sense that these items were “old” (minus Marge) and already lying around. They just had to pull them out of “storage” or the “garage”. Lol. It’s not so much the cost.
(I’m not sure if my computer posted my comment from earlier) But in the case of Whacking Day or other skins/characters/decorations, is there any likelihood that skins or things will recycle among events. Like for Halloween, can I hope for Kang or kodos to return, or future Whacking Days to see a Ninja Homer skin? Or are these things long gone and preserve the integrity of the towns with people that played from Day 1 and got the cool items? It’s something I’ve been wondering since I see so many cool things in more “mature” towns and wish I had some of the things.
We never know. It is all up to EA. Nothing is 100% until it goes live in the games.
How did you get Gorgeous Grampa? I can’t see if I have that skin, Grampa is on a task…
If you purchase Gorgeous Grampa or any other skins, they usually are put right away into your lil brown inventory box. So it is just a matter of going into your inventory, scrolling to the end where the skins are, and putting it into play in the game. Then, once Abe is done with his task…you will see the option to scroll to the alternate skins when you tap on him (a pic of each one you have will be there as you scroll right or left, the +/- will show/hide them)

Nope it was available for the first time last year. It’s from the Episode Tie-In Gorgeous Grampa…February 2013… 🙂
When he first came out was prior to me being able to play. He was an episode tie in character.
Strange.. I never got the offer to get the Gorgeous Grampa skin. Only had Willy and Homer. I don’t have GG from before and when I go to Grampa he doesn’t come up with a skin, nor is there the GG skin in my inventory.
Well it is no longer in the game. Most of these “Limited Times” have specific trigger points and requirements that you have to put in place while they are active and reach certain points of the Questlines, if you do not… then you don’t trigger the costumes.
After seeing them in friend’s towns, had to go for Ninja Homer and Bare Chested Willie. The animations are worth the donuts. In 2 minds about Grampa and also the Mayan though. If they offered Mayan Homer and Marge and not the decoration and NPC, I think I would be tempted, otherwise 300 D’s is a bit too much. Starting to sway about Grampa though, especially after seeing the tasks but as I don’t have Drederick Tatum (Sp?) and the coliseum or Duff Stadium, will Grampa just look a bit odd?
Nah. To me I just think of him as an old man walking around in his underwear lol
I realize this is a general question, but after looking through what has been offered in the past (and being sad that I missed awesome stuff), is anyone willing to speculate how many Whacking Days or Halloweens may occur before stuff that people have and stuff that new people don’t have will be recycled? Like Kang/Kodos for Halloween, or Whacking Day stuff once it comes around again? Just generally wondering since there was a lot of cool stuff that came out prior to me playing (part way through Stonecutters).
We never know. Lots of goodies in the files, but completely up to EA whether it comes back, launches, or just continues to sit there. (Mayan Marge was in there with other Mayan stuff in 2012 and JUST NOW was released).
I hate OCD my issues weren’t with weather or not to buy everything in the yard sale. Of course I did. My issue was where to get the cash to buy doughnuts.

Personally I think it was worth every penny. So many complaints about EA wanting doughnuts, I’m just glad the opportunity came to get some really cool stuff. Cool Homer might be my favorite of many, many Homer skins didn’t expect that with the house. Awesome bonus!
Cool Homer is one of my favorites in this game…one that’s going to get a Should I Buy all to himself. Personally, I think this is EA’s way of appeasing a lot of players that have said..”bring it back, please! We’ll even pay donuts” But I do think something awesome is coming on the horizon for freemium players 🙂
I managed to nab all 3 skins. I felt so crumby seeing them all over my neighbours’ towns so I was happy to see them in the yard sale. It sure was an investment though lol
