Should I Spend Donuts On the Yard Sale Buildings?

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

It’s Yard Sale time in Springfield & what’s old is once new again!  But, with that limited-time label, and the added pressure of these being some highly coveted items, it may be overwhelming trying to decide which items to buy and what to pass on.  But, have no fear! That’s where we come in to tell you what’s worth your donuts & what you might want to hold off on.

So far we’ve broken down the pros and cons of the Mayan Bundles, the pros and cons of the character skins, the pros and cons of the Cool Combo and the pros and cons of the decorations, so now let’s take a look at the buildings of the 2014 Summer Yard Sale.

Wondering if you should add Helter Shelter or the Ultra House 2 to your Springfield?  Well before you hit that confirm spend button, let’s break down the pros and cons of adding these buildings to your Springfield…..

Helter Shelter ultrahouse 4000goo

Helter Shelter

Building: Helter Shelter
Donut Price: 45 donuts
Payout: $500, 45xp/ 24hrs
Unique?: Yes, only 1 per Springfield
Conform-o-Meter Points: No impact
Size: 4×6
Where Can I Place It?: Springfield, grass or pavement

Pros
-Returning item from Christmas 2013, so if you missed out on it now’s your chance to grab it.
-Decent payout
-Small dialogue with it when placed

Cons
-It was free last year, a prize won the the wheel
-No conform-o-meter impact
-No Character Interaction

Final Thought:
I wasn’t a fan of Helter Shelter when I won it at Christmas, but I placed it in my Springfield because it was free.  However, I don’t think it’s worth the donuts.  Unless you’re a completest and you won everything from Christmas 2013 but this building, I say this is a pass.  Even though they made it smaller, it’s just not worth the space it’ll take up in your Springfield.

ultrahouse 4000goo

Building: Ultra House 2
Donut Price: 90 donuts
Payout: $200, 22xp/ 8hrs
Unique?: Yes, only 1 per Springfield
Conform-o-Meter Points: +10 Indolence
Size: 8×9
Where Can I Place It?: Springfield, grass or pavement

Pros
-Returning item from Halloween 2013, so if you missed out on it now’s your chance to grab it.
-Decent payout
-Small dialogue with it when placed
-Another house for your residential area
-Cool design, looks great with Frink’s Lab

Cons
-It was free last year, a prize won if you collected enough GOO
-No Character Interaction
-Last year after you won the Ultra House it gave you the option to purchase Kodos.  That option does not appear with this Ultra House re-release.

Final Thought
This is a 80-20 split for me…with 80% in the pass on it.  I do have the Ultra House in my Springfield & I was a fan of it when I won it back during Halloween.  It looks really cool in Springfield & I’m glad I have it, but I just don’t think it’s worth the donut price.  90 donuts is a lot to spend for a house that has no character interaction.  So, again, unless you have everything from Halloween but this house…this might be one you want to pass on.  Unless of course the coolness factor of the house outweighs the price in your mind…

My best advice for ALL of the items in the Yard Sale,  is to see what other items you might be coveting during the Yard Sale and weigh each option BEFORE you make any purchases.  The “sale” ends August 4th…so you have some time to make up your mind about what you want to do.  🙂

So there you have it my Tapping Friends…the complete Should I Buy Guide for all the buildings of the 2014 Yard Sale.  What do YOU think of the buildings?  Will you be making the purchases or do you already have them  from when they were first released?  Anything you’re excited about seeing?  Sound off in the comments below you know we LOVE hearing from you!

So I got the Ultrahouse 2 a couple of days ago. It looks great. I completed the small quest line that came with it which had Homer dating the house for 24 hours. During which time all three satellite dishes on the home would rock back and forth. Now that this short quest is over, it’s my understanding no other characters can use the house again? If so, it means I won’t see the house animate again? With so many characters available in the game, it’s a shame that none of them have a task with the Ultrahouse 2 and Homer’s was a one time only gig. 🙁

    • Yes, for now, Homer is the only character who has that 1 interaction with the Ultra House. Once it’s complete it’s over 🙁

I think I’ll pass on the Helter Shelter building. It only has limited appeal to me (perhaps if I re-watch the episode it’s from I might change my mind)… The Ultra House 2 on the other hand is a no-brainer for me. Up until this Yard Sale, it’s been a big mystery to me seeing it my friend’s towns but not knowing where it came from or even what it was called. Therefore I couldn’t even search the net for info on it since I had no clue what it was called. I was going to ask on this site until it suddenly appeared in the Yard Sale recently. Being a tech head, it appeals to me. I love the Star Trek door sound when you tap on it. I think it complements Fink’s Lab. Of course I wish it was half the price they are asking for it though, especially since it was once free and it no longer comes with Kodos. I’ll still get it, but I’m a little disappointed about that.

  3. So much shade on Helter Shelter. I might not have paid 90 donuts, but it is one of my favorite buildings. I put it near the prison, unemployment office, dmv, and hotel alley. I think it may house my favorite characters on any given day, even if they don’t have a specific “task” there, I play along folks…

  4. Unrelated question please help.
How do I get the fleeta pita?

I was thinking about buying the Helter Shelter to take up a blank space in my Springfield, but it doesn’t look right somehow. It looks tiny compared to the characters and the other buildings. Then I heard it was downsized. I don’t like the change in size, just my opinion I guess but I chose not to buy it because of its size change.

    • It’s a valid point….it’s why we say premium purchases are an individual choice. Everyone has their own reasons for buying or not buying 🙂

  6. OMGosh, I have 14 people waiting to be friends with me! WOW! , I have all my slots filled, but may have to excuse a few! Ok, I have already confessed that I never watch The Simpsons, shame on me, but I will start . So , I’m probably asking a really silly question, but does anyone know why the Community Center is never in use? Inquiring minds want to know? I LOVE THIS GAME!

  7. Guess I need a 12-step program for this game! I got what I did not have including Helter Shelter. It completes my church compound: the church, retirement home, and mental hospital. And since I didn’t already have it, the downsizing doesn’t bother me. Guess it is time for a glass of wine. Oops, did I say that out loud!

  8. I’d snap Ultrahouse up in a second if it meant I could get Kodos. He and Kang might be what I covet most from older towns.

    • I wanted the Alien from 2012 when I started in 2013…then they launched both at halloween and I got them. Ultrahouse isn’t linked to any characters, but that would be cool if it was. 😉

  9. Hmmm, I really can’t make up my mind on the Ultra house, Helter Shelter is easy as it’s not really worth it but I won the ultra house last year but lost it, and everything else, when my phone died due to the Samsung S3 screwed up update last year. I did try to get it back by signing in and contacting EA but it was like my account never existed and I had to start again.
Now I don’t know what to do, I’d love to have the house back but 90 d’nuts is a bit steep, although I do have 750 to spare, I kinda feel like I should save them for the next event.
    Aaarrrhhhh, what to do! !!!

    • Ummmmm…pat your head, rub your belly, and hop on one foot. Did that help? 😉

I adore the Ultrahouse. The Shelter, just never really was more to me than another building. You still have a while to decide. Make a pros n cons list using the helpful info from this post. Decide what YOU want most in your town and if it is worth it to you.

  10. I think the Sheleter was unproprtioned like many of the building in the game so I am probably one of the few that actually like that its been downsized. I always had it next to the egg nogg bar and now that they are similar size to me it looks better.

  11. For anyone who already has the Ultra house, if you pick it up and place it again a quest line starts. My guess is that it is the original one starting again, but since it is from when I first started, I can’t be certain. The Helter Shelter also replays the original dialogue when picked up and placed again. (Worked for me, at least)
Just a little something to do while waiting for the next update. ☺

  12. I just placed Ultrahouse 2 :p

  13. I got both when they were originally released. I love Ultrahouse 2, but Helter Shelter I could live without. Since I have it however, I still like it in my town. But I hate how it was downsized. It looks weird now.
