Should I Spend Donuts On the Yard Sale Decorations?

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

It’s Yard Sale time in Springfield & what’s old is once new again!  But, with that limited-time label, and the added pressure of these being some highly coveted items, it may be overwhelming trying to decide which items to buy and what to pass on.  But, have no fear! That’s where we come in to tell you what’s worth your donuts & what you might want to hold off on.

So far we’ve broken down the pros and cons of the Mayan Bundles, the pros and cons of the character skins and the pros and cons of the Cool Combo, so now let’s take a look at the decorations of the 2014 Summer Yard Sale.

Wondering if you should add the Mr. Sparkle Billboard or the Ice God to your Springfield?  Well before you hit that confirm spend button, let’s break down the pros and cons of adding these bonus earning decorations to your Springfield…..

Mr Sparkle Billboard Melted Ice God

Mr Sparkle Billboard

Decoration: Mr. Sparkle Billboard
Donut Price: 30 donuts
Unique?: No, you can have as many as you want
Bonus: 0.75% (bonus cash and XP to all tasks)
Bonus % Per Donut Spent: 0.025%
Conform-o-Meter Points: +10 Consumerism
Where Can I Place It?: The Mr Sparkle Billboard is one of the few decorations that can be placed on your land, on the beach and even on the Squidport Boardwalk!

Final Thought:
At 30 Donuts the Mr. Sparkle Billboard isn’t the most expensive decoration in Springfield BUT at .75% bonus pay out that’s not exactly the best payout in the game either.  It is a relatively small item to place in town and admittedly I did purchase this (only 1) back when it was initially released during the episode tie-in.
However, if you’re limited on your donuts you may want to pass on this one.  There are much better items you can purchase for relatively the same amount of donuts & better bonus payouts.  The one nice thing about this is it does add to your Consumerism rating, which is one of the hardest in the game to max out.

Whatever you decide on the billboard just remember this is a Limited-Time item so there once it’s gone it’s gone!

Melted Ice God Ice God
Ice God sculpture.  Melted most of the year.  Will reform to a statue when the snow returns to Springfield.

Decoration: Ice God
Donut Price: 30 donuts
Unique?: Yes, only 1 per Springfield
Bonus: 2.25% (bonus cash and XP to all tasks)
Bonus % Per Donut Spent: 0.075%
Conform-o-Meter Points: +10 Vanity
Where Can I Place It?: Anywhere in Springfield (just not in the water)

Final Thought:
While it may not look like much now, it is a fun statue when the winter time hits Springfield.  To me this is a no brainer.  If you have the donuts, grab it.  The 2.25 bonus% for the 30 donuts spent is the BEST in the game.  You won’t find a better % per donut spent!  This is a great way to earn extra cash and xp on all tasks and buildings.
Whatever you decide on the Ice God just remember this is a Limited-Time item so there once it’s gone it’s gone!

My best advice for ALL of the items in the Yard Sale,  is to see what other items you might be coveting during the Yard Sale and weigh each option BEFORE you make any purchases.  The “sale” ends August 4th…so you have some time to make up your mind about what you want to do.  🙂

So there you have it my Tapping Friends…the complete Should I Buy Guide for all the decorations of the 2014 Yard Sale.  What do YOU think of the decorations?  Will you be making the purchases or do you already have them  from when they were first released?  Anything you’re excited about seeing?  Sound off in the comments below you know we LOVE hearing from you!

  1. Regarding the puddle/percentage for donut spend – is there a post somewhere on the site that shows what the best value items are for donut spend to multiplier percentage?

I have 80 donuts to spend, and am looking to get the best return – I already have the melted statue, so I think my best bet is:
    Jet Engine Bike – 30 donuts, 2%
    Devil Float – 40 donuts, 2.5%
    2 x Hammocks – 10 donuts, 0.5%

So I’ll spend 80 donuts for a 5% bump. Just wanting to check if this is the best idea? I’ve looked through all the individual pages for each decoration, but just wondering if there’s a post dedicated to this subject in particular? (multiplier percentage/donut spend)

    Thanks!!!

    • No particular post. I am in the process of reworking the Conform o Meter Pages and the Premium guides, but it’s a work in progress. The little lulls like this help 🙂

Not a bad idea on the items. I’m a big fan of the premium items with bonus %, and for me they’re no brainers…since they benefit you ALL over Springfield. 🙂

30 donuts for a puddle is a great deal! (Sarcasm)

    • HAHAHAHAH @ puddle. 😉

It is more for the % bonus we suggest it. Others with that same rate usually cost 100 or MORE. I didn’t want any of my snow items to melt, but kudos to EA for the giggle in that they tried to be realistic about it. The pumpkin house wilted too, just like the ones on the porch after Halloween. 😉

  3. How bout a quest based on the “Bart After Dark” episode. AKA The Best Little Wh@!ehouse in Texas

Things to do………………………..Based on the episode
This episode contains a hint that Patty is a lesbian, as she is seen exiting the house during the slide show.
In her effort to re-convince the town that the burlesque house is bad, Marge begins singing an off-key parody of “My Favorite Things” – although the bulldozer (nice vehicle to have) cuts her off before she can sing the title phrase.
One of the dancers looks like Cookie Kwan (New Character), who later would became a recurring character.
In “Marge vs. the Monorail” (MONORAIL INTRO?!) Marge is told that her idea to spend a fine on fixing Main Street lost to a decision to spend the fine on a monorail because she did not write a song about her idea (Quest line).
Lisa and Maggie are the only characters that are missing when Marge arrives at the front door after cleaning rocks (Quest Line). They are also not found in the family car in the background and are entirely absent for the second half of the episode.

Belle (New Character) could possibly be named after Belle Watling, the owner of the burlesque house in Gone with the Wind.
The couch gag in this episode is a parody of the cover of “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band”.
When Homer stops the destruction of the burlesque house, Reverend Lovejoy says “This house is a very, very, very fine house,” a reference to the Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young song “Our House.”
The oil spill depicted in this episode is most likely a reference to the Exxon Valdez (New Boat) oil spill.
Mayor Quimby and the Quimby family, throughout Simpsons history, have been made to resemble JFK and the Kennedy family. In this particular episode, Mayor Quimby’s wife (New Skin & Character) is seen wearing a dress similar to one of Jackie Kennedy’s dresses.
A V-chip kicks in while Bart and Lisa are watching Itchy and Scratchy, prompting them to yell “Dad, V-chip, V-chip” at Homer, who then unblocks the show (Quest Line).
In French, “derrière” could mean both “behind” (something that is not in front of you) and “butt.” In this episode’s case, it is most likely the latter (“Maison Derrière” thus meaning “Butt House”).
The musical number instigated my Homer (accompanied by Belle and her backup dancers) convincing the town not to destroy the house is a parody of The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. However, unlike the episode, the “chicken ranch” is forced out of business.
Milhouse’s theory (Quest Line) about the Maison Derrière being a secret lab where they place zombie brains into other zombies to create super zombies may have been a reference to the Resident Evil series, of which the first game was also released a few months before the episode aired.

    For the new Update?

  4. My earlier comments is being moderated, not sure why. I’ll cut to the chase then. What are your thoughts on the ultrahouse? That and the me sparkle sign are the last two for the yard sale.

    • All comments go to moderation until we can look at them and answer 🙂 Just helps us make sure all of your questions get answered…

Ultra House for me…is a 80-20 split on if it’s worth it or not (80% not). I already have it and love it, but it’s not worth the donuts IMO. Here’s the complete workup on the Ultrahouse 🙂

      • Didn’t know about the moderation. Makes sense, sorry for rocking the boat.

Thanks for the insight into the ultrahouse. I’m wondering if it will do something this Halloween and that is why they are putting it on the market. I’m hoping that is why as I am this close to closing out the yard sale and always thought the house was cool.

        • No worries on the moderation. More for everyone’s benefit and safety. Many new to our site may not be aware of it. Sorry you didn’t know.

I adore the Ultrahouse. Had it in a “GEEK” section of my town with all other things “GEEK” looking, like Frinks Lab. 😉

  5. Well I already had these when they were first released. I say they’re good to have in your town since they raise your consumerism & your vanity ratings. Besides, it’s nice to have different items! Like Alissa said, if you can buy them, buy them.

  6. Hey EA! Unshrink my Mr. Sparkle Billboard!!!!

  7. I also am having an issue.
Tried to log in at origins.com, and none of the links seemed to work.
Then, suddenly, my phone went loopy and all of my saved web pages disappeared! Not cool.

    • I know the servers were down for maintenance…but I dunno what happened to your phone! Hopefully you get it back to working soon! 🙂

  8. What are thoughts on the ultrahouse? I like the house, but I’m not sure about shelling out the donuts. Trying to straddle completionist with frugality. I’m still on the fence about the mr sparkle sign, but I think it’s going to happen soon. Reminds me of ol’ fish-bulb.

  9. Sorry this probably doesn’t fit in here. I can’t log in to my game! I just reinstalled and when ever I try to login it says an error occurred please try again. I am very worried since I have been playing since last Halloween. Should I contact EA? Please Help! 🙁 Thanks in advance.

    • I know they were doing some work on the servers over the last few hrs, but it was supposed to be complete by now. However, it may be taking a little longer than they thought. Give it a little bit and try again see if that helps.

Also check Origin.com to see if you can login there.

      • Thanks! (Again :)) I logged on to origin then went back to tsto and it worked! So relieved! I was in panic mode! Thank you guys SOO much! (Don’t know what I’ll do in TSTO without you guys ;))
