Where Did THAT Come From – Gorgeous Grampa

Oi Oi Oi!

How are all my favorite readers doing?  Wookiee back from a little life-enforced hiatus to do what I do with some WDTCF action.  I know these may not be everyone’s “cup of tea”, but I relish any opportunity to dish a bit on the origins of our stuff in TSTO.  For this edition, I thought it’d be fun to talk about one of the premium character skins from this year’s yard sale… Gorgeous Grampa.  If these posts are your bag, click more and we’ll be on our way.

This strange incarnation for Grampa Simpson came into our games as an episode tie-in for Season 24, Episode 14: Gorgeous Grampa.  Initially free, it has returned with a 75 donuts price tag.  This is no should I buy though, Alissa had you covered in that regard here.  As an episode tie-in, pretty easy to guess where it came from but I still thought it’d be fun to take a look at the episode.  This one is always memorable for me just for the the Homer Shake opening.

I really can watch that over and over.  Very funny.  The real story behind this skin is all set up with a parody of Storage Wars.  Homer wants to do the silliness and heads to a Storage Auction where it turns out a lot of other Springfieldians participate in this kind of thing too.  Homer bids 1000 dollars on a storage locker and finds it’s full of lady stuff.  Wigs, boas, perfume, hand mirrors, tights, ropes, beefcake magazines.

It must all belong to some old lady, but it turns our it all belongs to Grampa.  But why would Homer’s man dad have lady stuff?  Is he gay?  That makes no sense, “my dad was married to a woman who left him because he ignored her needs for decades.  Aw my gay dad is gay for gay.”

Grampa has always been so angry.  Maybe coming out of the closet will make him less cranky?  The world is pretty tolerant nowadays.  Marge tries to get him a date and the awkward dialog between Smithers and Grampa is funny in “Casual Encounter” park but the truth is Grampa is actually Glamorous Godfrey… the most famous wrestler ever.  Burns has a whole tribute hall dedicated to him. Seems it’s been in our TSTO buildings under his dome this whole time lol.

Gorgeous Grampa

For the record, the gay grampa jokes end here.  Grampa doesn’t ride side saddle… he’s as straight as a submarine but he did kiss a man by accident on V-E day and Marge says thank you.  I love Grampa’s explanation about his wrestling days.

“It was the 1950s… it was the heyday of pro wrestling.  You could make good money if you were the manly mixture of strong and fat we called beefy.  Good guys were called baby faces and bad guy were called heels.”  Gramps was the King of the Heels, Glamorous Godfrey.  His motto was always cheat.  The only downside to being hated was being hated.  Eventually Grampa couldn’t take it anymore and hung up his wig.  Being despised was no way to live.

Although he’d retired… we get to see Grampa preen around as a bad guy courtesy of some encouragement from his biggest fan, Monty Burns.  The episode also includes Burns singing about being bad which is hilarious.

The only real problem with Glamorous Godfrey is Bart really looks up to Grampa’s evil alter-ego.  He even joins his grandfather as a tag team partner… Beautiful Bart.  Bart loves being bad and declares the world to be his ring. Sounds like trouble to me.

Don’t be all sad though dear reader… all ends well when Grampa realizes Bart’s soul is at stake.  In a surprise twist, Grampa changes his name to Honest Abe (complete with Lincoln hat and beard) while in the ring, dubs Bart Laddy Liberty and beats the ever-motha-loving crud out of Mr. Burns.  All people wanted to see was a good guy beat up the bad guy.

Here’s Grampa’s tasks while in this skin.

Task Length Earns Required
Powder Puff 1hr $105, 26xp Outside
Admire Himself 4hrs $260, 70xp Outside

So, while this character skin is a retread from a 2013 episode tie-in in TSTO, the ending of it’s origin episode sorta had to do with 4th of July and at least proves that we like our old people nice and setting good examples.  Sound off below with your opinions about the skin.  Did you get it?  Like it/hate it?  I’ll be the first to admit I wish there was more free stuff in the Yard Sale but I am glad there’s a second chance at this skin for people that want it all.  The outdoor animations are funny but I don’t know if I’d have gotten it for donuts.

Y’all stay classy as usual and TTFN… Wookiee out!

Thanks, Wookiee! I always appreciate these WDTCF columns, as my memory isn’t what it used to be these days. A Wookiee never forgets. Or is that an elephant? I forget. I’m still on the fence about buying the skin. I think I’m going to have to buy it because it’s so ridiculous looking. Though 75 donuts is a bit steep for the skin. I don’t understand why it isn’t the same as the Bare Chest Willie skin in the Yard Sale.

Once again, thanks. I now remember the episode thanks to your great recap of it. Cheers.

  2. Dooo Eeet :). I love the prancing and powder puffing

I’m a sucker for outside tasks, and this skin has 3! Hmmm, might have to reconsider, but am still hoarding donuts LOL.
