Character Level Up

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

Springfield has been transported back in time and things are looking vaguely familiar to another mobile game out there.  Oh the Clash of the Clones is upon us!  And with it arrives 4 new character skins for Homer, Lisa, Bart & Marge!

One of the new aspects of this event versus previous events is Leveling up.  With Clash of Clones you can level up your Castles AND Characters (only the Simpsons).  Castle level ups improve your town defense, increase your nerd production and increase your max nerd total, among other things.  Castle levels ups cost Elixir, the new in game currency for the event, but Character level ups those cost Gold, the prize currency for the event.  So, just what do character level ups do?  Let’s take a look and find out….

Homer Barbarian Commanding TroopsMarge throw Fireballsunlock_lisa_archer Bart Goblin Check for Traps

You can level up 4 characters in this game, but only when they’re in their event skins.  Those characters are:

-Barbarian Homer
-Wizard Marge
-Goblin Bart
-Archer Lisa

Character Level Ups are a required element of the event, in order to complete the questlines you’ll have to level up characters to a certain point.  Character Level Ups require Gold. However, to level up a character it will NOT take away Gold from your total.  You’re simply required to have that much Gold on Hand to level the character up.  (for example if you have 2000 Gold on hand, and you need 1,000 to level up Lisa, 1,100 to level up Bart and 2,000 to level up Marge you can do all 3 at that point.  It won’t deduct from your total).

So now that we know you need Gold to Level up a character, let’s take a look at how you level up  a character.  It’s a fairly simple process.  To level up a character you simply tap on the castle they’re associated with and scroll down till you find the character upgrade option:

2014-08-20 01.26.52

If you don’t have enough Gold the upgrade option will be grayed out (as above) but if you do have enough gold it will appear in Blue (like below):2014-08-20 02.50.59

The Barbarian Castle is home to Barbarian Homer and Wizard Marge.
Castle Recycle is home to Archer Lisa
Boxingham Palace is home to Goblin Bart

So now that we’ve got the “why”, the “who”, the “where” and the “how” down, let’s take a look at the “what”…as it what does it do and what does it cost.

The most common question we’re seeing about Character Leveling up is, What Does it Do?  In short…nothing.  It does very little to impact your characters, however it DOES increase their Elixir payout per task.  As you increase each level you’ll see a slight increase in the amount of Elixir that’s payed out for each task the character skin performs.  Here’s how the Elixir payout increases by Level:

For Barbarian Homer:

Task Length
1hr 4hrs 8hrs 12hrs 16hrs 24hrs
Level 1 1 Elixir 4 Elixir 8 Elixirs 10 Elixirs 16 Elixirs 20 Elixirs
Level 2 2 Elixirs 5 Elixirs 9 Elixirs 11 Elixirs 17 Elixirs 22 Elixirs
Level 3 2 Elixirs 5 Elixirs 10 Elixirs 12 Elixirs 18 Elixirs 23 Elixirs
Level 4 2 Elixirs 5 Elixirs 10 Elixirs 12 Elixirs 18 Elixirs 24 Elixirs
Level 5 2 Elixirs 5 Elixirs 10 Elixirs 13 Elixirs 19 Elixirs 25 Elixirs
Level 6 2 Elixirs 6 Elixirs 11 Elixirs 13 Elixirs 20 Elixirs 26 Elixirs
Level 7 2 Elixirs 6 Elixirs 11 Elixirs 14 Elixirs 21 Elixirs 27 Exlirs
Level 8 2 Elixirs 6 Elixirs 12 Elixirs 14 Elixirs 21 Elixirs 28 Elixirs
Level 9 2 Elixirs 6 Elixirs 12 Elixirs 15 Elixirs 22 Elixirs 29 Elixirs
Level 10 2 Elixirs 6 Elixirs 12 Elixirs 15 Elixirs 23 Elixirs 30 Elixirs

And here’s how it changes for Wizard Marge, Goblin Bart & Archer Lisa:

Task Length
1hr 4hrs 8hrs 12hrs 24hrs
Level 1 1 Elixir 4 Elixir 8 Elixirs 10 Elixirs 20 Elixirs
Level 2 2 Elixirs 5 Elixirs 9 Elixirs 11 Elixirs 22 Elixirs
Level 3 2 Elixirs 5 Elixirs 10 Elixirs 12 Elixirs 23 Elixirs
Level 4 2 Elixirs 5 Elixirs 10 Elixirs 12 Elixirs 24 Elixirs
Level 5 2 Elixirs 5 Elixirs 10 Elixirs 13 Elixirs 25 Elixirs
Level 6 2 Elixirs 6 Elixirs 11 Elixirs 13 Elixirs 26 Elixirs
Level 7 2 Elixirs 6 Elixirs 11 Elixirs 14 Elixirs 27 Exlirs
Level 8 2 Elixirs 6 Elixirs 12 Elixirs 14 Elixirs 28 Elixirs
Level 9 2 Elixirs 6 Elixirs 12 Elixirs 15 Elixirs 29 Elixirs
Level 10 2 Elixirs 6 Elixirs 12 Elixirs 15 Elixirs 30 Elixirs

You’ll notice that both sets stop at Level 10, why is that?  Because once you reach Level 10 Leveling up becomes even more pointless…and at that point it does absolutely nothing for you.  In fact you’ll see this popup once your character reaches Level 10:

2014-08-20 14.34.25

And if you do in fact level a character up past Level 10 this will pop up:2014-08-20 14.34.37

So now that we have the What does it do down…let’s talk about what it costs.  Remember, you don’t actually lose gold when you level up a character.  It’s merely the amount of Gold you must have on hand in order to do the Level up.  However, your Gold total will never drop.

Here’s a look at how much Gold you must have on hand to Level Up each character to Level 10 (the max beneficial level):

Barbarian Homer Archer Lisa Goblin Bart Wizard Marge
Level 2 300 Gold 900 Gold 2,100 Gold 6,000 Gold
Level 3 750 Gold 1,650 Gold 3,150 Gold 7,500 Gold
Level 4 1,350 Gold 2,650 Gold 4,550 Gold 9,500 Gold
Level 5 2,100 Gold 3,900 Gold 6,300 Gold 12,000 Gold
Level 6 3,000 Gold 5,400 Gold 8,400 Gld 15,000 Gold
Level 7 4,050 Gold 7,150 Gold 10,850 Gold 18,500 Gold
Level 8 5,250 Gold 9,150 Gold 13,650 Gold 22,500 Gold
Level 9 6,600 Gold 11,400 Gold 16,800 Gold 27,000 Gold
Level 10 8,100 Gold 13,900 Gold 20,300 Gold 32,000 Gold

Note: To get them to Level 11 here’s what it would cost (as an example…again anything past Level 10 literally means nothing to the game):

Barbarian Homer Archer Lisa Goblin Bart Wizard Marge
Level 11 9,600 Gold 16,400 Gold 23,800 Gold 37,000 Gold

So when it comes down to it…what’s the point of it all?  Well to find that out we have to take a look at Part 1 of the Clash of Clones Questline:

Barbarian Homer: Hey new Homer, how do I look?
Homer Barbarian: Like level 1 loser.
Barbarian Homer: Is level 1 the best level?
Homer Barbarian: Level 1 am worst level.  Total noob level.
Barbarian Homer: A noob!  That’s the worst thing a person can be!  I don’t wanna start at Level 1.  I should start at level… a million billion.
Homer Barbarian: It easy: get gold, go to castle, level up!  Sometimes we level up in sleep.
Barbarian Homer: That is easy!
Homer Barbarian: Yes, leveling up am easy… at first!
Barbarian Homer: I don’t get your jokes.

So my pillaging friends, that about covers all of the details on leveling up your characters!  That being said….what level are YOUR characters?  What do you think of leveling up?  Are you finding it easy to move through the questline, now that you have it all down?  Sound off in the comments below, you know we LOVE hearing from you!

  1. I love this game so much I play it every single day It is so addicting if you don’t have the Simpson tapped out then I would get it right now.

  2. As a noob, I didn’t have Marge through most of the event. I acquired her locked costume, and had the quest, “Pointless-Yet-Compulsive Pt. 1,” the entire time, asking me to upgrade Wizard Marge.
The Barbarian castle showed the button to upgrade her, but was unusable due to her absence from my game. So I focused on getting Marge unlocked during most of my play time so that I could finish the quest.

Well, I just unlocked Marge today after finally getting Moe’s, received the dialog about Homer giving her the wizard robe, and the quest to upgrade her still remains, however, when I go to the Barbarian castle, the option to upgrade her is no longer there. It only shows the button to upgrade Homer.
Is this a glitch or am I doing something wrong?

    • Oy, nevermind, As mentioned previously, I’m a noob.
I found the solution in my inventory.
Must tap the Use button on the robe. x__x
Just confused me that the button to upgrade her was there the whole time and then suddenly it wasn’t.
      My bad.

  3. Is there a side quest with the catapult. I went to a random town and it had the cat in the catapult ready to throw him lol…and I also saw gill in someone’s town

    • Just some dialogue between Krusty and Sideshow Mel. You may have visited your neighbor while the catapult was being tapped? As for Gil, he shouldn’t be in anyone’s towns right now.

  4. Any idea on just how many levels up the characters go? Will it just continue to an infinite number until the event ends?

  5. Other than the towers received castle upgrades and the prize track, is there anyway to get more castle towers (without spending donuts) for Boxingham and Castle Recycle? I saw you can get more walls by upgrading past level 20, but how do you get more towers? Seems to me that EA intentionally gives you only three, forcing you to spend real money to get to an even number. Is this the case?

    • From what I’ve seen as far as I’ve upgraded it’s only walls. That doesn’t mean at Level 30 it’s not a tower, I just haven’t gotten there yet.
