Sashimi, Sashimi! Raw, Raw, Raw!
Oh laughter. How are my favorite tappers doing today? Wookiee back with another Where Did THAT Come From for all of you. This time, I get to talk about a building that serves one of my favorite foods ever… sushi and sashimi. For those of you who don’t know, I lived in Japan for 6 years while in the military and some of my friends and families describe the effect as me becoming peacefully Asiatic. I love me some raw fish served thin. Of course, our newest location for this Japanese amazingness is none other than the Happy Sumo.
Where do you go when Meatloaf night bores you and you want anything but hamburgers, pizza or fried chicken? The Happy Sumo of course. You can get all the sushi you’d desire here including the deadly if prepared wrong fugu. I’ve wanted this building for quite a while (check out this post from September 2013) and now it’s ours provided we spend sprinklies on Akira.
The Happy Sumo made it’s first appearance in “One Fish, Two Fish, Blowfish, Blue Fish” (S2:E11). You really gotta love any place that serves small cakes of cold rice with fish, egg,or vegetables on top or inside. Also radical that the bar has a karaoke stage. If you’re looking for Japanese authenticity, this really seals the deal. It really makes me laugh when the hostess explains it is empty but will later be filled with scores of Japanese businessman.
The karaoke bar of course comes in play later in “Black Widower” (S3:E21). Where else but the Happy Sumo could Robert Terwilleger (AHHHH! SIDESHOW BOB!) and Selma sing Karaoke?
For all the fans who like to see buildings in their entirety, we press through the Best. Show. Ever. to the next sighting of the Happy Sumo in “In Marge We Trust” (S8:E22). How to describe it?
“I’m obsessed with it. Where did it come from? What is it a box of? How’d my face get on it?”
Ok… that’s Homer describing the Mr. Sparkle box but in fairness, it is said box that leads Homer to the Happy Sumo. Springfield may be full of Japanese businessman, but only Akira is the recurring Nihonjin to help him out.
As the leading sushi restaurant of Springfield, the Happy Sumo is more than just a restaurant. They also have a booth for the Taste of Springfield Festival as seen in “Guess Who’s Coming to Criticize Dinner” (S11:E3).
Pretty safe to say that if you want delicious raw fish, the Happy Sumo is the joint for it. Sure Springfield later gets the soup nazi-esque Swanky Fish in Season 24 but to date that’s been a one hit wonder. There’s also the snake wine establishment Homer and Kumiko’s father went to and I certainly dig that japanimation sequence but I’m rambling so I’ll stop. Really not much else to say about this new building. What do you think of it? Did you buy it? Sound off below and keep on tapa-tapa-tapping in the free world.
TTFN… Wookiee out!
Buying the Happy Sumo was probably one of my favorite purchases. The building generates a goodly sum of money/XP regularly, and I love Akira’s questline (as usual Simpsons does a great job mixing humor and social commentary). But to me, the *BEST* part of having Akira is his ability to create Bonsai trees! Run 3x 12hr quests and >poof< free good-looking premium decoration (only helps tree-hugging, no percentage bonus, but still it's otherwise only available for donuts). I've got five of them throughout my Springfield already, two more in my Inventory, and Akira's working on another right now. Thumbs up!
Happy Sumo will likely be my next non-event premium purchase. I’m planning on waiting until this event is over and to see what happens for Halloween and the Futurama crossover episode in case there are any limited time items I want first, though…
Quick ot-question.. do you guys think gold or elixir will be converted to money after the event? I’ve got over 100000 elixir and almost the same in gold.. I’m not bothered to upgrade my castles anymore.. but is there any point in storing up?
Don’t know. I am saving my stash for the end to see what else they bring. I ALWAYS wait til the end to go “shopping” with it.
I really hope they release some more event items, but being able to convert it to money (or donuts!) would be great. Barring that it would be nice to be able to buy walls, etc. without having to do them one at a time. I’ve got a half million in elixir and don’t really want to spend several days buying castle walls right before the even ends…
I’m planning on buying it, but I’m waiting to get more sprinkles in a Gil sale. I’m just glad it’s not limited time, because I really want it.
Love when great items aren’t limited-time! Hopefully we’ll be seeing Gil and his day-old donuts soon!
Hey, has anyone been having trouble visiting neighbours lately. Today when I tried it gives me the bart screen every time and I cant visit any neighbors
First report I’m seeing on it..
When I have enough donuts, it will be a purchase for me! I hope at some point we get the Springfield drive in.. They could play movies that earn cash similar to kbbl and channel 6, and could add a radio program to kbbl for the kids to take over and spill secrets. Oh the possibilities! Could be a FP or a prize for an event, or just something they throw into a level update .
I really like it, I am tempted, but I am waiting. It is 3rd or 4th on my list of things to save up for.
“Ah, Mr. Simpson you have very lucky dishes.”
Dirt will be banished to the land of wind and rain 🙂
