Should I Spend Donuts on the Shadow Knight?

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

With just a few days left of Clash of Clones (anyone else ready for it to be over?) EA has dropped a fun little premium update in our laps.  The Shadow Knight, an all new costume for Bart, has hit our games and with that limited-time label I know it can be tempting to just buy, buy, buy!  But, have no fear, that’s where we come in to tell you what’s worth your donuts & what you might want to hold off on.

Wondering if you should add the Shadow Knight and his throne to YOUR Springfield?  Well before you hit that confirm button (or lack their of) let’s break down the pros and cons of adding this fictional character to your Springield!

Bart Shadow Knight Senseless Killing 1 Shadow Knights Throne

Costume/Decoration: Shadow Knight & his Throne
Donut Price: 200 Donuts
Bonus %: 2.75% bonus to all cash and xp
Conform-O-Meter:

Pros
-Premium skin for Bart that earns 50% more Cash and XP than his normal skin
-2.75% Bonus is a nice bonus for the Throne
-Comes with a questline (you can check it out here)
-A few outdoor animations, and 1 that involves using the throne.

Cons
-EXPENSIVE…
-You only see Bart with the costume if he’s using the throne
-No animation with the Throne

Final Thought:
This is a hard one for me.  As many of you know I’m a completest…I want EVERYTHING in this game.  And usually have a hard time saying no to a new premium item.  However with this one I’m really leaning on the “pass” side of things.  The price is one factor, but the other is it’s just another skin.  I already have several skins for Bart that I don’t really use (although I do love Kamp Bart… 🙂 ) so I just can’t justify spending that kinda “dough” on another skin for him. If it was a separate character, maybe…but a skin it’s just hard to justify in my mind.  Plus, Halloween is looming on the horizon…I’d rather save my donuts and see what the next event has in store.
Of course in the end it’s your decision, we can only tell you what we would/wouldn’t do, and this is one I’m 99% sure I’ll be passing on.  Whatever you decide just remember, this is a Limited-time item…so if you’re thinking about it make sure you make your decision prior to the Clash of Clones Event leaving our games October 7th!

  1. awesome skin and he’s VOICED, can’t go wrong there. well worth the 60 donuts.

  2. I just picked this up for 60 donuts, so far I’m two for two in the stuff I want from those mystery boxes.

  3. Lenroy Changkins

Wow this used to cost 200 donuts? A great value from TTT mystery box then. Likewise I will also wait for all the overpriced items from current and future events to return heavily discounted.

  4. I got to this page by clicking a link in the Ultimate Premium Guide for the SIB the knight boat…

  5. kingofstillwater

personally i dont care what you say, even if it is expensive i like the shadow knight and i wish i had gotten him (my phone broke during the event)

  6. Actually his Killing Spree job is pretty cool. For me it was worth it

  7. And yea… it was one of my favorite episodes. I was deep into the World of Warcraft when it came out, so it ranks right up there with the South Park WoW episode.

  8. Personally I think this is one of the coolest items in the game. I picked it up without hesitation!

  9. Michael Trudrung

Many of you forget he has custom sound!
    “Mwa Ha Ha Ha!”

  10. Which of the shadow knights tasks are outdoors?

  11. I got it and put Bart and his throne plus his Tree House and chest of Gold in his Boxingham Palace! Placed him on a 3-D style hill using Lg Hedges! Bart “looks” quite Smug in his” Man Cave” !! 🙂 happy Tappin!!!!

  12. I went for the Shadow Knight and placed the throne. I freed up Bart, but there was no Shadow Knight skin for him. I closed out the game and re-opened and I still have the same problem. I never got the questline or anything. Just the throne sitting in my Springfield. Does anyone know what’s up with this?

  13. I’m passing on this. This was not my kind of fun attacking or being attacked. However I’ll take this over a spinning wheel or opening up random gifts any day. Saving my donughts for Halloween treats.

  14. 200 for this?! No way! This item should be 50 at most. Seems like Springfield isnt safe from inflation either…

  15. Impulse buy, I went for it. Partly for the ‘limited time’ angle, partly because the 2.75% bonus is decent. Honestly, they should’ve charged less, but I recently topped up on a boatload of donuts and so it didn’t feel like that huge a luxury.

On the other hand, if I was conserving or saving up, I would’ve passed. As ever, thanks for the detailed analysis!

  16. I agree with what some are saying here. I don’t begrudge EA at all for their attempted to bring in income, it’s just that once you’re able to pass up an item that’s too expensive, then it becomes easier and easier to say no to higher priced items. If this was 100 donuts, I might have purchased. If the Gold Mansion was 100, I might have purchased. There’s your 200 donuts, EA, but now you have nothing from me.

I don’t get the logic. If pricing on everything was cut by 75%, EA would make a killing.

  17. Off topic here (apologies). I’d like to know what happens to any left over/unspent elixir after the CoC event?
Is it forfeited or do you get cash for what you didn’t use?
By the way I did get the Shadow Knight skin, it looks cool, is quite tall and stands out in game.

  18. Off topic slightly but this is from a favourite episode of mine a mix of farce satire and darkness

  19. I cannot justify spending that kind of money on a skin and a decoration. I think the MOST this would have been worth would have been about 75 donuts. MAYBE. After such a long event, and with a new one coming up, you have to wonder how much they really care about us players with these prices.

I understand charging money for in-game things because it keeps the game going. But it’s been really expensive lately and I’ve decided to pass on quite a few items that I would have liked, but just couldn’t justify the real life cost of them. There had better be an AWESOME Gil sale right before Halloween hits, or I may just decide to skip some of the Halloween stuff, too, especially if they are going to gouge the players like this. *unhappy*

    • The prices aren’t that bad, at least compared to other freemium games. I know it may seem insane but if you look at the bigger picture…
I buy a boatload of donuts at Christmas, and that boatload has lasted me until September. And I buy EVERYTHING. That’s pretty good, considering another freemium game I have to put a boatload in every month and a half and I don’t even buy everything.

      • Fair enough. This is the only freemium game I play (and only game overall), so I have no basis for comparison. I bought some in the last Gil deal, but am waiting to buy more for a boatload sale.

        • Yea it’s frustrating for sure. But the pricing structure isn’t too bad overall. It’s when they throw these crazy priced items in that drive everyone (myself included) nuts. But for the most part a lot of items are reasonable in price…as reasonable as you can get for pixels 😉

  20. Must say super cell pricing model is far more attractive which is probably why clash of clans and hay day do better than an established franchise such as simpsons.
The marketing team at EA are useless and a larger number of smaller purchases would work out far better than a scattering of huge purchases. Afterall they can’t rely on completionists to be sole income.

  21. hes voiced!

  22. I have been a TSTO player since christmas 2013 and been a premium player since April 2014 and love the game alot. I buy what i think goes well in my springfield (whether it be for donuts or in-game cash) and try to complete all tasks for the updates not just for the prizes but also for the animations and funny story lines. I think EA is just like any other business giving the public what they think we need at sometimes a higher price. Maybe if we all blog enough about ideas for future updates hopefully they might act on them. I know they can’t make everyone happy but if you love the game like i do, you do have a choice if you want to buy the item or not.

  23. I’m with you. Times are tight right now. I don’t mind sharing some of my hard earned cash with the creators and crew of my favorite game, but come on now, here! I shouldn’t have to choose between recreation and lunch!

  24. I got it…I love it. It’s just too cool to ignore 🙂

    Now bring on Halloween!

  25. If the SK were its own character and not a skin for Bart I’d be more tempted to pick this up, but still…200 donuts! Yeesh! If this were to have been released closer to the beginning of the event I could also see me being a little more tempted to purchase but with Halloween coming in just a couple of days…I’m hording all my donuts until then.

  26. Much like you, I’m a completionist (I can’t think of a character that I’ve missed), but 200 doughnuts is just too expensive to continue that claim. (As I said yesterday, I would be buying it if we could pay with Elixir, but sadly we can’t. :()

  27. And I bought the Shadow Knight 🙂 And I bought the nerds 🙂

  28. Oh and the ones for cash can go to Krustyland (but they must be in inventory first). COOL!!!! The others are premium and a bit steep but have pretty good multipliers

  29. Off topic. We can buy nerds!!!!!!!!

  30. Not even taking into account that our Halloween event will drop pretty much right at the end of this event, the premium item prices are just getting insane. I really hope that EA does read this blog regularly. I’ve already spent more in donuts since the beginning of this game than I would have spent on 3 hard disc games on day of release (PS3/Mac/Xbox) and it’s getting really hard to justify buying more donuts. Nearly all the premium items don’t interest me much lately, and with each new item they add, they are adding to the donut price. If they are losing money to their competition, how about making it more interesting and wallet friendly for your die-hard players and less about reaming those fly by night players that play occasionally at best. I love my TSTO game, but it doesn’t feel fun like it did in the beginning, it feels like everything they are doing now is just another push to milk our wallets like we’re cash cows.

    • I wonder if they budgeted for more people to buy castle walls, cheaters, and elixir. When that didn’t happen, they had to find ways to make up for it.
