Should I Spend Donuts On the Pirate Airship?

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

Yesterday EA brought a few ghosts back to Springfield…and they arrived via the Pirate Airship!  The Pirate Airship is an all new premium (and expensive premium at that) item for your Springfield!

Now many of you are curious if this airship is worth your hard earned donuts and I know with that limited time label on it I know it can be overwhelming trying to decide what to buy and what to pass on…but that’s where we come in!  We’re here to help break it all down for you!

So let’s get going and see if you should at this Ghostly Ship to YOUR Springfield!

pirate airship

Item: Pirate Airship
Cost: 250 Donuts
Earns: $135, 15xp/ 4hrs
Bonus %:
5% on all cash and xp

Pros
-Comes with a fun questline…one that gets Herman and the Sea Captain involved!
-Looks AWESOME
-Really great animation and sound
-Earns a nice bonus %
-Takes up a small amount of land, since it floats in the air

Cons
-EXPENSIVE…like crazy expensive
Characters will not use after initial questline Sea Captain will use it for 6hr Swab the Deck Task
Cannot be placed in the water.  Since it floats it can only be anchored on land and will hover. Can be placed OVER the water, but only attached to a Squidport tile.

Personal Thoughts:
This thing is INSANELY expensive…but it’s SO COOL!  So it’s a hard call for me.  In the end I did purchase it…because it just looks awesome.  Also the 5% bonus and the questline were a nice added touch (FYI if you don’t have Devil Flanders Ned will just complete Part 1).  So I say…if you have the extra donuts lying around or if you just really love this go for it!
Of course in the end it’s your decision.  We can’t tell you what to do or not do…we can only tell you what we did.  And I can tell you I did purchase this one!  Of course whatever you decide…just make sure you do it before November 2nd as that’s when this Ghostly ship will set sail out of our TSTO store!

What do YOU think of the Pirate Airship?  Have you purchased it?  Will you be?  (remember it leaves our games on 11/2)  Where have you placed it?  What do you think about Herman and the Sea Captain getting into the Halloween action?  Sound off in the comments below, you know we LOVE hearing from you!

  1. It has a 75 donut kickback during the third leg of the Time Travel event going on now. Procrastination wins again.

  2. I bought this and I love it! It’s a great addition to my Springfield!

  3. It doesn’t say in the tooltip about the 5% bonus, so I was in doubt. But took the risk and the bonus is still there. And it looks so awesome! 🙂

  4. Looks awesome, but holy cow! So expensive. With 135 donuts left and only 2/3 through the Halloween event I have to pass. And never think about it again, because I want it so badly 🙁

  5. It should be no more than 150 donuts to buy, especially given how much you have to spend if you want all the Halloween prizes.

  6. Hi Everybody! Does anyone know if the animation will stay after Halloween or will it disappear like the Bad Dream House? If so, is it constant or just during Sea Captains task? Thanks 😉

  7. IT’s me, Sten;) i just changed my name 😉

Yeah it was expensive but not only as a completeist I just love it. One of my most prized possessions. Now if I could just find the right spot for it…

  9. I bought the Ghostly Pirate Ship! It makes a scary sound when you tap it and it earns money! The scary sound is like a ghost captain killing and laughing loudly and people screaming. That’s what i think. Maybe they should add St. Splashmore in Krustyland? And add Monorail (with lvl 47 update) and Monorail Guy.

  10. Yeah, okay, I lied. Or more to the point, I changed my mind. There wasn’t anything from the original description to indicate it did anything but produce a little cash. The 5% bonus on money/XP decided me. That, and the limited time nature, plus it’s a splurgy-cool thing to add to my A-game.

I’ve positioned the ship hovering over the Squidport docks, with the anchor right next to the old sea captain’s restaurant.

  11. I got it just for the sake of it, no questline triggered though even though characters are free, I even put it back in the inventory and got it out again

  12. I bought it! I found a fun little “trick” to make your Ghost Ship seem like it’s in the water. Remove 1 Boardwalk tile and place it in your inventory. FInd the spot in the water that you want to place your Ghost Ship and put down the one tile there. Place the Ghost Ship anchor on the tile and you have your ship in the “water”. It’s the closet you can get to having it actually anchored in the water. Really awesome looking!

  13. That’s a horrendous price for what is basically a useless decoration. There are MUCH better value items you could get for 250 donuts. EA are really ripping off the obsessive collectors now as this cash cow nears the end of its useful life.

    • I totally agree with Silly Sally’s comment. The price for those dougnuts is off the charts! But people keep buying them and therefor the price doesn’t drop. After a year of saving I managed to save 250 and buy Barney’s Bowlerama, but EA only get’s my time.
I remember events being about the player and community too, that too has changed.

  14. I can pass after seeing it in a couple of neighbor’s towns. It takes up so much space! And costs so many donuts!

    • Actually it taked up very little space, because its floating one boardwalk tile is more than enough room since all that is grounded is the anchor.

  15. Bought it, but I don’t have devil flanders… do I think I might be missing out on some things… not sure. But it looked ridiculously cool and since it looks like not many others are going for it, I figured id jump in. Left me with only 130 doughnuts though. Hopefully nothing cool comes up before next year because I maxed out my doughnut budget for 2014

  16. I kind of liked it’s look too, so I ended up getting it. Anchoring it over the water only required one boardwalk section.

  17. Can it be placed on/at the Squidport?

  18. I agree. It’s SO COOL! I had to have it. Looks great in my town, I do wish we could have it hover in the water too.

  19. Though you can not put it in the water, you can anchor it on Squidport! I put one piece of decking down in the middle of the water and placed the anchor on it 🙂

  20. It was pricy but looks so cool. I put a boardwalk tile in the ocean by itself and placed the ghost ship on it. That way it looks like its docked next to my other ships lol.

  21. I put mine on the edge of the board walk so almost over water

  22. There was an update ingame? about 10 mb download, just fixes or something else entirely?

  23. I feel kind of gross but I got it. Haha. Halloween is my favorite day of the year and I love these events. I’ve already won a little over 100 donuts in this one. Without that I don’t know if I would’ve purchased it. Now I just have to rearrange to place all this new stuff. Thanks for all your great posts,
    Happy Halloween!

Thanks for all your great posts

  25. I would add that, while the anchor takes up only a small amount of ground, the airship itself is massive. I don’t like to have too much of any building or decoration in my Springfield blocked by anything else, so this vessel of the undead is tricky to place.
Good jokes in the quest dialogues, too.

  26. Got a mini in game update right now.Any insight on what it may be?

  27. Doesn’t the Sea Captain have a permanent job? Thought I read somewhere he has but I haven’t yet completed all the quests with the ship 🙂

  28. Can it go on the boardwalk or only land?

  29. Bluedestroyer82

I wish I could afford it but I busted all my donuts during previous events 🙁
