Should I Spend Donuts On King Winter’s Cave?

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

Christmas has arrived in Springfield!  But, with all of the new Christmas premium items that are limited-time it may be overwhelming trying to decide which items to buy and what to pass on. With that limited-time label on items I know it can be tempting to just buy everything you can. But, have no fear! That’s where we come in to tell you what’s worth your donuts & what you might want to hold off on.

Wondering if you should add King Winter and his Cave to your Springfield? Well before you hit that confirm button, let’s break down the Pros and Cons of adding chilly character to your Springfield.

King Winterkingwinterscave_menu

Character/Decoration: King Winter/King Winter’s Cave
Cost:
175 Donuts
Bonus %: 1.5% on all cash and xp
Conform-O-Meter:
Indolence + 10
Size: 4×6

Pros:
-Premium Character pays out at a premium rate, 50% on all tasks
-Voiced
-Comes with a questline
-Cave is considered a decoration and earns a 1.5% bonus on all cash and xp.

Cons:
-No animations associated with the Cave
-King Winter only has 2 outdoor tasks
-Very short questline, and requires Homer, Lisa, Flanders & Miss. Hoover to complete.

Final Thought:
Personally this is one I’ll probably pick up.  I like the look of his cave & he basically has the same amount of task that all premium characters do these days (including only 2 visual ones).  However, he adds NO benefit to the Christmas event in general.  So if you’re looking at items to purchase and donuts are limited, you may want to pass on King Winter…and wait to see what’s down the road for the event.

Of course in the end we can’t tell you what to do, we can only guide you and let you know what WE would do.  And in this case…I’m 99.9% sure I’ll be picking up King Winter.  Whatever you decide just remember…this is a limited-time item.  So be sure to make your decision before he disappears from our stores forever!

  1. Bonus is now 4.5%

  2. I agree that he is too expensive, but I like to get every taskable character possible, and I think he looks cooler than most other characters (no pun intended). So I bought him, with no regrets. The ice cave is small enough that it could be hidden behind a large Springfield building if that is a concern for you once the snow goes away. I will keep mine out, though.

From the other comments I thought that he would be inactive until I could get Homer to free up for his first task, but that is not the case. I went to assign him the first task even though I knew Homer was busy, and of course that was a no-go. However, it did open up his menu for me, with three tasks to do (4, 8, and 12 hour tasks, I believe). Two other tasks (1, 12 hr.) were grayed out, but at least he is usable immediately. Two thumbs up.

  3. Turns out you don’t need Ms Hoover for him to go on a date. You do need the Guilded Truffle though.

  4. I bought him entirely because he reminds me of the Ice King from Adventure Time 🙂 but I like him a lot!

    • My favorite Adventure Time character! But I got him because he reminds me of the snow miser from year without a Santa clause.

  5. I like him and the cave looks cool! I will prolly buy him bc the cost of a premium character and “building” with the % is ok plus it is unique! I understand the concerns during the sunny days! You could either store him or just hide the cave! If you think about it, just put the cave at “higher elevation” to give the illusion! It works in real life so why not Springfield! JMO

  6. Thank you for posting this. I was very tempted to get him, but I think I’ll pass on him now. I’d rather wait and see if a better limited character is offered later. I’m crossing my fingers that they will do some New Year’s Eve holiday items.

  7. I got him straight away. Spending donuts on a new character is always a thrill for me. As for what to do with his cave, I’ve put it in a copse of trees, kinda like a planned forest with trees in perfect lines and the cave in the middle of it. It looks good. I think I’ll just pretend it’s a crystal cave once winter is over lol.

I love this blog. This is where I got all of my friends from 🙂 You guys are awesome! I’ve gotten so much great information on here.

  8. Make an island & place the cave on the island. The cool waters will keep it frozen year round 🙂
He’s a pretty cool & neat looking character overall. Maybe EA will provide him shades , shorts & a Hawaiian shirt for the summer months 😉

  9. Won’t the snowy cave look out of place once the Springfield is updated back to normal? I mean, you’ll have this ice cave in the middle of sunny Springfield? I guess you could create a Xmas area & blend it in there, but I like to mix everything together…

Plus, 175 donuts for a character & building is steep…I need a Gil sale on holiday donuts, and then another Gil sale on a premium I want. This game is getting more pricey, since it used to be 150 donuts for character/building combo.

Personally, I’d have been thrilled with a discounted Tire Fire for Black Friday, but I didn’t even get that…

  10. As I read elsewhere, for the type of bonus of %, would cost around 30 donuts, so you’re basically spending 145 donuts on just a character. For me this is a huuuuuuge pass.

  11. What is going on with my Springfield.all my houses keep halfway disappearing and changing shapes like they are in a glitch,I have items that have been moved and some that were put into my box,I have about $46 thousand dollars missing and 20 doughnuts gone, and I have items I never bought or ever seen, and some of my buildings are turned different then the way o had them…why is this??this game is crazy enough to play without things like this happening…..

  12. As soon as this guy popped up in the shop, I got him right away. Before this event, I purchased some donuts for something later on that is Limited Time. I got King Winter mostly to unlock a character for the Holiday 2014 Character Collection and so far I am pleased I spent the donuts. However, I haven’t completed the first part of his quest because it seems Homer is always needed for something else. I can’t wait to get Homer back, though. It seems he and Lisa are getting lots of attention (like they always are).

  13. I got him, but like the review of it said, so far he’s pretty useless but his cave looks really cool. Except for the fact it’ll only look this good during the event or as long as there is snow in our towns. After that it’ll look like crap probably, so its certainly not a item to have year round in a town. Something to think about.

  14. So far this seems like the only thing I want during this Christmas event….. I hope better things are still to come.

  15. I picked him up right away because he was the only new item that I didn’t have from previous years. I haven’t been able to start his quest line yet though because the first task requires Homer for a 24 hour task and so far I’ve needed Homer continuously for the Christmas quest line and Santa tasks. The little bit of OCD in me is going crazy seeing that king winter icon on my taskbar sitting there every day and not being able to clear it

  16. Is he available all throughout the event or just for part 1?

  17. I have his cave in an out of the way area for now due to laziness, but it’s going to look awkward once the snow goes away no matter where you put it unless the snow on the cave melts away (which defeats the purpose of him being King Winter..).

Maybe someday they will give snow, dirt, and sand tiles so you can customize your town better.

  18. Thanks. I almost got this last night or earlier today, but I was really waiting for some guidance about it here. I was already sizing up locations where I would put the cave. Do we know what his cave will look like in the warmer months or is that something that only a future EA update will provide? I’m a little disappointed to learn his two outside tasks are both just centered around food. I’m a little on the fence about it now. 1.5% bonus isn’t that much for the cost of donuts for it and I don’t know if I would have the character out roaming the town in the middle of July either. Do we know know what “limited time” means in regards to this one? The end of the event or sooner? There’s no countdown timer.

    • Not sure what it will look like yet. We won’t know until the new files come out…

I’m thinking it’s going to go when phase 1 ends..honestly.

  19. thought about it. i really like the character but at the end of the day i think the ice cave is going to look too awkward with out snow on the ground.

  20. I bought him, mainly because for long time players it was the only new thing to buy. Haven’t really started his quest yet, because Homer is busy with other things 🙂

  21. I wish he would produce “gifts” as a bonus to at least a job or two. But, I agree, really hard to pass on a “winter” premium character. It’s no Monorail; but, it’s not bad.

  22. In the cons you need to add that he doesn’t earn presents. I feel its a very large con for a “Christmas” special character.
