Hey Howdy Hey My Elfish Tappers!
Well….unless you’ve been partying a little too hard you know that Elves have taken over Springfield! Elves work hard and party even harder…so much so that even Santa bailed on Springfield! It’s your job to contain the Elves and send them back to the North Pole. In doing so you’ll earn Elf Bells..which will give you some awesome prizes!
With this event EA is repeating a similar prize structure to what they did for Halloween, only more prizes, and releasing the event (and prizes) in stages. For the second phase, which lasts until the event ends (Jan 14th), you can win 8 prizes by collecting Elf Bells. The first prize awarded at 1,000 Bells is the North Pole.
Let’s take a closer look at this pole, and just what happens when it enters your town…
WARNING Mild Dialogue Spoilers Ahead
Once you’ve collected 1,000 Elf Bells the North Pole will automatically be awarded to you and you’ll see this popup:
Much like Friendship Prizes, if you’re visiting a neighbor when you hit the 1,000 Bell mark this message will still popup and your Pole will be waiting for you in your inventory once you get back to your Springfield.
The North Pole will be placed in your inventory, so you’ll have to go into your inventory to retrieve it. Just tap on the “use” icon to place it in your Springfield:
Before you even place it in town…some minor dialogue between Homer & Lisa will popup. You will then be prompted with the task to place it, after that some more dialogue will popup. Here’s the full rundown:
The North Pole
Lisa: Cool, Dad, look! It’s the North Pole.
Homer: What’s it doing here? Shouldn’t it be in front of a barbershop or in North Dakota or something?
Lisa: Are you saying Springfield is not in North Dakota?
Homer: Well when you put it like that, let’s keep it!
Place the North Pole
Nelson’s Mom: Look at that beautiful pole! For five bucks I’ll show you what it’s good for.
Completed Task Earns 100 Elf Bells and 10XP
So here’s the deal with the North Pole:
-A decoration for Springfield.
-Does not add any bonus %
-Can only be placed on the Grass in Springfield
-Not animated.
-Conform-o-Meter Vanity +200
So that about covers all the details on this Pole from the North!

Today I went on to start tapping and it said I was not connected to the Internet. Tried restarting it at least 10 times. Still no Simpsons. But I do have Internet. When all this happened earlier I thought I was so lucky because it didn’t effect me. Boy was I wrong. Was going on? I thought they fixed it. Can’t tap to get ahead? So disappointed with this game. Can you pleas help me?

Currently, I have the North Pole sign in my holiday corner, but I was thinking I would put it next to the strip club and see if Nelson’s Mom had any use for it…. 😛
I would have preferred if the North Pole sign had an arrow on it and was 360° positionable. Springfield is definitely NOT the North Pole, since it doesn’t have snow in the ground year round (although, with global warming, maybe the real North Pole soon won’t either!)
Matt Groening is from Portland, Oregon. Many of the characters in the show are named for streets in Portland (Quimby, Terwilliger, Flanders, etc).
Here is a quote from Mr. Groening himself (from the Smithsonian website/interview:
Interviewer: “OK, why do the Simpsons live in a town called Springfield? Isn’t that a little generic?”
Matt Groening: “Springfield was named after Springfield, Oregon. The only reason is that when I was a kid, the TV show “Father Knows Best” took place in the town of Springfield, and I was thrilled because I imagined that it was the town next to Portland, my hometown. When I grew up, I realized it was just a fictitious name. I also figured out that Springfield was one of the most common names for a city in the U.S. In anticipation of the success of the show, I thought, “This will be cool; everyone will think it’s their Springfield.” And they do.”
I placed mine between the elf cannon and the cannon control building.. That way the elves get to see where they are going before I send them back home.. I love this event.. I started playing around May so this my first Christmas event and it’s wonderful. I like it better than the Feds. Where did you place yours?
Totally a random comment but i have just discovered this, don’t know if anyone else has found it out and shared already or if it just my game. Anyway I was still crashing regularly about every 5 mins or so. What i have done is turn off all my Christmas lights and this has reduced me down to only occasionally crashing on the game. Hope this helps others.
That suggests that your device was running out of RAM memory. The animations use more memory than the still images do, so a device that is low on memory could have more trouble when more buildings are being animated by the game.
I love that they kept the mystery of which state Springfield is in. That made me laugh.

Based on the Quimbys, I would have said Massachusetts (we do have a Springfield here!), but my husband said that it’s already been established (I forget where…in the show?…an interview with Matt Groening?) that it’s not in Massachusetts.
I recently read some Simpsons trivia where they stated that the name Springfield was chosen because there are so many Springfields in the US that no single state would be identified with the series.
