Where Did THAT Come From – Spruce Caboose

Your attention, please: the Wookieeland Limited, now arriving from a trip around California’s Tragic Kingdom. Passengers will stand by to booooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaard.

I wonder how many of you will get that little joke. Several little references in there lol. Anywho… How y’all doing? I’m back for yet another origin post from the 2014 TSTO Christmas Event. With new stuff comes my promise to let you know just where the items come from in The Simpsons universe. For this edition, we’ll take a look at the Spruce Caboose.

So this restaurant, train thingy comes to us as our 7th Phase II prize for 17,700 elf bells. Of course it is literally a train wreck but what does it have to do with the Best. Show. Ever. other than now being a part of our games? Well, let’s find out. It’s as simple as a jaunt over to “Marge Gets a Job” (S4:E7).

First off I have to say I love when TSTO items come from classic Simpsons episodes. Seeing as a lot of our content comes from earlier seasons, I’d hazard a guess that EA does too. In this one, it all starts off with the Simpson’s house’s foundation slanting. Behold the horrors of the Slanty Shanty and Cueball! The next thing we see is the Spruce Caboose for the retirement ceremony for Jack Barley from the Nuclear Power Plant.

“It was the most beautiful, most expensive train ever built. Some people said it was too big to stay on the tracks… they were right.”

So the train crashed in Springfield and they made it into a restaurant post-carnage clean-up.  Gotta love any place where the host is French or a headless brakeman. Also convenient that you can throw people right out of the ballroom via the train car doors.

The rest of the episode is really good too. Pierre and Marie Curie destroy what appears to be Tokyo, Marge gets a job at the Nuclear Power Plant, Mr. Burns woos Marge, Bart fights a timberwolf AND Tom Jones sings!

The Curies and Tom Jones

For all of you reality junkies… there’s actually a Blue Spruce Caboose Inn located in Cascade, Colorado. It’s also a music venue in Philadelphia. Of course, the name is a pun on the Spruce Goose aka Howard Hughes’ H-4 Hercules which for a long time was located in Long Beach, California. Gotta say I was awed by it as a wee lad. Although it was ginormous and no one thought it’d fly, it did once. Technically our new decoration rolled down track once too.

Well, I hope everyone is enjoying the beginnings of 2015. Until next time, stay classy my friends.

TTFN… Wookiee out!

  1. Very Cool! 🙂

  2. Now since Christmas is over I think EA should consider letting the plant workers go to the Spruce Caboose as a quest. 🙂

  3. The references at the beginning…. Disneyland Railroad and No Doubt, right? 🙂

  4. Great post! I had forgotten about this. There’s actually another reference to the Spruce Caboose in one of my favorite episodes “$pringfield (or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Legalized Gambling)”, where Mr. Burns essentially follows in Howard Hughes’ footsteps. He builds a tiny model of the Spruce Caboose and tells Smithers that they can fly away in it. When Smithers protests, he holds him at gunpoint and says “I said ‘hop in’.”

  5. Ah, thanks! I was so confused when people had to go there to dine because I had it confused with some kind of ride that Marge really loved as a child, and Homer got it all fixed up and running for her….anyone remember what that was? (It was NOT the same episode where they went to summer carnival place on an island – something else). Now this is going to drive me crazy!!

  6. Another fine article @ tstoaddicts
    Another clever Simpsons episode
(which references the Phase II prize)
A bummer it only offers a quick task

  7. Been having connection issues last night and today. It’s gonna come down to the wire for the last prize for me. Just under 19,000 bells at the moment. Playing multiple times daily, I have no idea how casual players could even get half way through the prizes if I’m cutting it this close. (And I max out my neighbor bells each day as well)

  8. What’s with all the islands today?

  9. It would go really well next to a Monorail line. *sigh*

  10. I got this yesterday and I just can’t figure out a place to put it at the moment. It won’t go with my other restaurants…it might have to have a section of land of its own.

  12. OT from Spruce Caboose…
When I sent Mr Plow on the “Attempt to Melt Snow” task, Comic Book Guy “said” something but I missed what it was. I was surprised, it is not the first time I send Mr Plow on this task.

  13. Actually The Hercules flew twice! After it landed, he turned it around, took off and flew it back the way he came, and there was actually no Spruce In the plane, it was pine wood, but calling it the Pine Goose didn’t rhyme or make good headlines.
And Howard Huges hated the name Spruce Goose so much, I heard he almost fired some of his own workers for calling it that.

  14. I really want this one, but I know I won’t 🙁
But it doesn’t matter, Christmas 2014 was a huge update !

    (I’m Charlie, we’re all Charlie)

  15. I like its astetics and think it’ll go well in my hilly billy part of town, but I wish at least one characrer had a task. Even just a job for SVT would be cool.
