Tapped Out Special Event Walkthrough: Matt Groening and the Mutant Rabbit

While we’re waiting for the “next big thing” to happen in our games, I thought it would be fun to distract ourselves with a look at some of the dialogue from updates past.  Here’s one we never got a chance to post from way back after Halloween ended & the Simpsorama Crossover.  Enjoy!

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

Well a couple of months ago EA dropped a fun surprise into our Tapping Devices…and Matt Groening joined Springfield!

Now that most of you have worked through the questline of both Matt & the Mutant Rabbit, I thought now would be a fun time to take a look back at the full dialogue that came along with the event!  There were a lot of fun twists and turns throughout this questline, did you catch them all?  Now’s your chance to make sure you didn’t miss any of the fun!

So now…let’s get to walking shall we?

Matt Trying to Erase Homer

When Worlds Collide Pt. 1
Matt Groening auto starts

Matt Groening: Klaatu barada nikto!!  Sorry, I’ve just always wanted to do that to someone and this was probably the only chance I’d ever get
Homer: Are you a g-g-g-g-g-ghost?
Matt: What? No, I think we’ve had enough of those in this game already.  I’m your creator.
Homer: So you’re G-g-g-g-g-god?
Matt: No. I have a beard and walk around in a bathrobe a lot, but I’m not him either. I’m the creator of The Simpsons
Homer: You mean Matt G-g-g-g-g-g-groaning?
Matt: It’s pronounced GRAY-ning.
Homer: Then maybe you should spell it that way.

When Worlds Collide Pt. 2
Homer starts

Homer: So why are you here, Mr…uh. can I just call you Matt?
Matt: No.   And I’m here because something wonderful is about to happen. Worlds are about to collide!
Homer: Like Earth is going to crash with Earth-2, annihilating us all?  That does sound wonderful!
Matt: No, The Simpsons is going to crash with one of my other creations, Futurama… annihilating TV-viewer boredom!
Homer: You mean a crossover episode?  Ugh! Those things are always so awful.
Matt: Yes, they are full of awe.  And this will be the most awe-full crossover ever!
Homer: When is this going to happen?

When Worlds Collide Pt. 3
Homer starts

Homer: O Great Creator of Everyone and Everything Around Us… if you can hear me, please answer my prayers.
Matt: I can hear you, Homer… now that you’ve stopped screaming. What is it you want?
Homer: For you to get rid of that crossover episode. Futurama had a great run, but it’s over now. Can’t we just let it go in peace?
Matt: *sigh* I think I can fix things. But first I need you to build something for me.
Homer: Of course, O great one! Is it an ark?  Because if so, I need to know what exactly the difference is between an ark and a boat.
Matt: No. I need you to build something to bring me into your world.
Homer: A super sciencey time portal?
Matt: No.  I need a-
Homer: A magic train to carry you here from your wizard school?
Matt: A WRITERS BUILDING! I’M A WRITER SO I NEED A WRITERS BUILDING, OKAY?
Homer: Oh.  That’s disappointing.
Build the Writers Building- 24hrs, Cost $80,000,  Reward 8000xp (Note this is the price when it was FIRST released as an episode tie-in.  It’s still in the game now, but it will cost you $150,000)
Homer: Okay, I built the Writers Building.  It’s old and crappy and doesn’t have nearly enough offices for a show this size.  Also I built a fountain in front and put fish in it, even though it wasn’t made for that and most of them will die.
Matt: It’s Perfect.

When Worlds Collide Pt. 4
Matt Groening starts

Matt: This Springfield seems different than the one I remember.
Homer: That’s because I blew up the one you remember.  This is a new Springfield, built from the ground up by a giant finger.
Matt: So this world was created with the help of others?
Homer: Relax, Mr. Greening — you still have “Created by” credit.
Matt: It’s GRAY-ning.

Matt Groening starts

Homer: Now that you’re back, Mr. GRAY-ning, can you use your writing powers to get rid of that crossover episode?
Matt: I’d love to, Homer. But first I need you to finish the Writers Building.
Homer: I put super-cheap air conditioners in all the windows. What more do you need?
Matt: Snacks. Writers need energy…  …the kind of energy you can only get from a cabinet full of candy and a refrigerator full of sodas.

When Worlds Collide Pt. 5
Matt Groening starts

Homer: Okay, the kitchen’s stocked! And if we run out of anything, I’ll go to the store and buy exactly the same stuff……so that after a few restockings we’ll have extras of everything people don’t like, but not enough of what they actually eat.
Matt: Great. But writers can’t just live on snacks.  We need to be able to order lunch, so that when it comes we can stop working for an hour……and often longer.
Homer: Can’t you just bring your lunch from home?
Matt: What? No. We have to order out so that we can wonder all morning when lunch is going to get there.  And then get mad if it doesn’t arrive on time.  It’s part of the creative process.

Make Homer Get Menus From Local Restaurants- 4hrs, Earns $175, 45XP

When Worlds Collide Pt. 6
Matt Groening starts

Matt: Thanks for the menus, Homer.  I’m sure we’ll be cycling through these same small number of restaurants for years.  Now all we need are some PA’s to take our orders.
Homer: But we don’t have any PA’s.  Also, I have no idea what a PA is.
Matt: It’s a production assistant.  Their job is to call in our lunch orders and pick up our food.
Homer: Can’t we just call it in ourselves? Most of these places deliver.
Matt: What is this, not Hollywood?  I’m sorry, Homer, but this is just the way things are done.
Make Homer Hire PA’s- 6hrs, Earns $225, 55XP

When Worlds Collide Pt. 7
Matt Groening starts

Matt: So Homer, did you get us PA’s?
Homer: Yep. I hired a bunch of recent college graduates who could make a fortune on Wall Street but for some reason would rather do menial work for very little pay.  So are you ready to write that crossover episode into non-existence?
Matt: Almost. We just need a few more supplies.
Homer: What? Pens? Papers? Dictionaries and Thesauri?
Matt: No, coffee. I need you to go on a coffee run.
Homer: Why a coffee run? We have freshly-made coffee right here in the coffee machine.
Matt: It has to be Starbucks
Homer: It IS Starbucks!
Matt: We don’t drink the free coffee, Homer.  IT’S JUST NOT THE WAY IT’S DONE!
Make Homer Go on a Coffee Run- 4hrs, Earns $175, 45XP

When Worlds Collide Pt. 8
Matt Groening starts

Homer: All right, I’ve gotten all the things you need to write.  And I’ve got to say, it would’ve been a lot easier if you just gave me the whole list to start.
Matt: Sorry about that. But I like watching you move around.  Beautiful character design, if I say so myself.
Homer: My eyes are up here, creep.
Matt: Unfortunately, as a TV writer, I still need one thing to properly do my writing…  …a room full of other writers.
Homer: WHAT?! WHY?
Matt: I can’t eat all this food myself.
Make Homer Hire a Writing Staff- 8hrs, Earns $275, 70XP

When Worlds Collide Pt. 9
Matt Groening starts

Matt: Not a bad writing staff, Homer. How’d you find them?
Homer: It was easy. I just went to the same place I found the PA’s and offered more money.  So as my kids say…
…are we there yet?
Are we there yet?
ARE WE THERE YET?
Matt: Yes, Homer. We’re ready to begin the rewriting process.
Homer: Thank God! Bless you, Matt Grow-ening.
Matt: ….

Matt Groening starts

Homer: Groaning, Greening, Grundig, Gopnick, Gehring… I can’t get it right, because NO ONE CAN GET IT RIGHT!
Matt: Homer, you’re a wonderful character.
Homer: And that’s why you love me. That’s why everyone loves me!  I’m the amiable goof, the id with a heart of super-ego. I’m your greatest creation ever!  And that’s why you have to destroy the Futurama crossover.
Matt: Oh, I will.
Homer: So after spending days setting up your writing building, you’re finally going to do some writing?
Matt: Yes.

When Worlds Collide Pt. 11
Matt Groening starts

Matt: You’ll be happy to know that I rewrote the Futurama crossover.
Homer: Thank you, Mr. whatever! No one wanted to see those two worlds collide.
Matt: No, they didn’t.
Homer: Why did you look so sinister when you said that?
Matt:  Because I decided not to get rid of Futurama, Homer.  I decided to get rid of you.
Homer: Get rid of me? But it’s an episode of the Simpsons. You need me — I do the jokes!
Matt: I’ve got Bender.
Homer: Well sure, he’s a lot like me… only a robot, and crazier, and his voice is all…Oh God, you really don’t need me!
Matt: No, and now it’s time to get rid of you forever.
Homer: But this is my show, and my game. You can’t get rid of me just by writing.
Matt: Maybe not. But I’m not just a writer — I’m also an animator.
Make Matt Groening Attempt to Erase Homer- 24hrs, Earns $1200, 300XP (Homer is needed too. Dual Task)
Homer: Haha, that was great — very Loony Toons-y.
Matt: Thanks. And no hard feelings about the Bender over you stuff.
Homer: Of course. We all liked Futurama. Sorry about it being cancelled.
Matt: Eh, it’d been fourteen years. After that many years, any show has run its course.
Homer: ……
Matt: What was that?
Homer: I said: …

The following would have popped up if you purchased the Mutant Rabbit…

Mutant Rabbit Multiply 4

Don’t Feed After Midnight Pt. 1
Auto starts

Lisa: Hey Bart, look at this adorable bunny I found!
Bart: Better be careful, Lisa. You know what rabbits are good at!
Lisa: Not really. Do you?
Bart: Not really. I assume it has something to do with running fast and/or eating carrots.
Make the Mutant Rabbit Multiply- 12hrs
Bart: Lis, is that supposed to happen that way?
Lisa: Not really. I think there’s supposed to be more than one, and that the whole process takes longer than two seconds.  Ugh! That doesn’t make it sound any better!

Don’t Feed After Midnight Pt. 2
Auto started on 11/11

Lisa: Hmm, all the extra bunnies seem to go away every twelve hours.
Bart: And all the Spucklers seem really well-fed every twelve hours. Weird, huh?  It’s almost like they’re killing and eating them… which is fine, because the rabbits aren’t me.  They’re not me, right?
Make the Mutant Rabbit Mutate- 8hrs

And that’s it for the Episode Tie-In Walkthrough!

What do YOU think of the event?  Thoughts at Matt being added as a character?  How about the Mutant Rabbit’s tasks?  How about the dialogue?  Sound off in the comments below, you know we LOVE hearing from you!

  1. How do you get rid of the roaming rabbits?

  2. Thanks for posting the dialogue here. Groaning has been around for a month now, and there is a task to do with pronouncing his name, but aside from his intro dialogue, it’s not mentioned. Now I know it’s pronounced as Grayning.

  3. No Bunnies or Mutant Rabbits in my town so I didn’t see the dialogue for that part of it, but loved the MG dialogue when it appeared, especially when he had to keep correcting Homer’s pronunciation of his name. I had never heard it pronounced correctly, so didn’t know it sounded like GRAY-ning. The character is voiced, but that dialogue is getting old now, I’m sorry to say.

Right after the recent events in France, I saw that someone had drawn a cartoon where a cartoonist was erasing a terrorist with a giant pencil. In honor of this, I have MG chasing Homer as we speak.

  4. Hello! Thank you for the details of the quest. I would like to ask about the pricing of the building.

Build the Writers Building- 24hrs, Cost $80,000, Reward 8000xp

You stated that the writers huilding cost $80,000 but how come in my store it appear as $150,000? Could it be the price has increased? Thanks

    • When it was first released it was $80,000 (which is why this shows that price). However, when they decided to keep it around they raised the price.

      • I see. Thank you so much! I guess I’ll have to buy in this price then 🙂

      • Oh, so how do I unlock it then?? Since it’s still available.

      • I’m only on lvl 12 in TSTO. It is in my market, but it’s locked, saying I need the “When Worlds Collide Part 3” questline. Which is over with I hear. I think that was the Futurama mashup, no? So sad I missed that one!! I LOVE Futurama. Fry is a stud 😘 LOL Wwaa, SO SAD!!
Anyway, Miss Bunny said to keep playing and see what happens..

        • I believe… I will have to check again… it won’t actually unlock until 15 or 25 Game Play Level (ie Walkthrough Levels)

          • What’s the difference between 15 and GPL? Like, what is 15? I thought 12 was my Game Play Level.. So would 15 not be? I’m confused lol

            • XP are just points accumulated. They are required only to get to items in the store… However it is the Game Play that is critical. You might be able to see items, but until you complete what is required on every single Level… you will not be able to progress to the next one or unlock those items for purchase. So Game Play Walkthroughs on each Level is where you really need to pay attention. You can’t go on until you meet the requirements and finish those questlines. So your XP could be at 25, but if your Game Play is still at 12… you won’t be able to purchase any buildings or characters any higher until you complete those questlines in 12 to go to 13… and on and on.

              • Well I leveled up to 13.. The Writers Building still says the same thing in my market.. My XP right now is 266/18000.. Literally just leveled up..

              • Watch the Game Play though… NOT the XP. Like I said… round 15 or 25… still looking for exacts on it. They like to move stuff round. 😉

  5. The mutant rabbit was a cop out of a tie in. They could have included any Futurama beloved character and made sooo much money. Even Lord Nibbler would have been cute roaming around…

  6. So the Writers Building is still in the market.. How do I trigger the quest?

    • The quest itself may be gone by now as the event that brought it in is long gone. But the building is still there. 😉

      • Hhmmm.. I need “When Worlds Collide Part 3” to get it.. *taps foot*.. Very annoying. I wonder if it’s a glitch? Either the building still being in the market or needing a quest that isn’t available?

      • The quest is still there, I unlocked it yesterday. If the unlock is based on game play level, then it should unlock around the time you build Luigi’s (my xp is 23) Hope this helps!

  7. Wow this is old….and is there a way to get rid of the rabbit? Am I the only one stuck with that annoying rabbit in the town???

  8. I’ll be honest, I haven’t had very many instances where I wish I hadn’t spent the little sprinklies (other than the purple funzo I purchased accidentally since the confirm button was off), but I have serious buyer’s remorse on the rabbit. The tasks aren’t entertaining, I don’t like how it locks up the game while it does it’s multiplication/mutation, and you can’t store the thing in inventory! Gah!

    • I agree. It is the one Bunny I do NOT want. Lol. 😉

I would prefer the ones from Easter just hopping round… and maybe tap on them to show that ZAP feature. Lol.

    • Same here it funnyat first but now its tiresome and yeah why the heck cant we store the darn thing? Wish we could have got a bender instead even if it was just as a decoration as him sleeping until the year 3000

  9. We could use another episode tie in soon or level update or something. Im starting to get bored.

  10. I know this isn’t the right place to post this but I just noticed in my game a bunch of things not unlocking/appearing and quests not triggering. I’m at level 47 and the Honest John’s quest hasn’t triggered, The Way I Wish We Was quest hasn’t triggered, and none of the dialogue has started even when all my characters are free, and none of the items to purchase show up in the store. Is there something I’m doing wrong, or is there an issue with my game?

    • Let me ask you this…are you basing this off of the XP Level at the bottom of your screen? Or are you actually going off of your Game Play Level? ie… what Level Walkthroughs have you completed? You can’t go on to the next Level unless you finish the one before.

      • I’m basing it off the fact that I’m level 47 and can’t even remember the last time a new questline triggered. I THINK the last one I did was for the Itchy & Scratchy studio. It’s been so long I can’t remember now lol Even when I have every single character in my town free, no new tasks open up, and there’s nothing in my sidebar saying there’s uncompleted tasks. Just, nothing, is happening.

    • idoji_the_clown

If the last quest line you had was the Itchy and Scratchy Studios it’s probably because you’ve not done the Princess Penelope one in Krustyland. My game hung up for a minute and I couldn’t figure out hyu7 and that was the reason. It’s the next level in sequence. As soon as I built the giant wheel and had her the main Springfield went right back into action.

  11. Hey, off topic but I randomly have 11 extra donuts, I swear I checked after visiting my neighbours and I still had 42 donuts but just went into my game now and I have 53!

    • Could be extra ones you earned but never hit your account (I know there was a glitch going around where they disappeared). But hey free donuts are free donuts 🙂
