Woo hoo! So Level 48 dropped in the midst of all our holiday fun and this fuzzball was pretty stoked. Not only was it more Simpsons fun for all of us, but I got things I mentioned in other posts. Add to that some extra goodness and let’s just say there’s a walking carpet in Southern California with a big smile on his furry face. But enough about me… I’ve got a job to do and you know what that is… let y’all know (or remind you) just where THAT comes from. Before I begin, let me apologize for the delay in the Level 48 posts. They were written up but delayed by all the holiday madness. For this Level 48 edition, we’ll take a look at the Barbecue Pit.
For $100,000, the barbecue pit can be added to your Springfield. It adds to the vanity rating of your town and is a nice little addition. To find this beautiful brick grilling pit, we head to “Mom and Pop Art” (S10:E19).
Homer is being his usual lazy self on a Saturday (albeit this time with a straw hat, Hawaiian shirt and coconut for his beer) but Marge is not amused. She convinces him it’s time to do some home repairs so Bart and him are off to the hardware store to buy bolt cutters or wire cutters or something to get the lock off his toolbox.
While there, Homer comes across BBQ Pit Kits and an instructional video from Chip, the tool for Global Dynamics Corp. Installing your own barbecue pit is a snap. You can cook chicken or wild boar or swordfish or even hippo… mmmmm… hippo.
Of course… yet another attempt at masonry by Homer fails and his barbecue pit looks nothing like the box. I’m with Homer though, what the heck is Les Grille? The instruction video did say that building your own BBQ pit was as easy as installing an aviary or Olympic-size swimming pool. Both of those are easy, right?
Even though the BBQ pushed Homer over the edge, his failed pit turns out to be “outsider art” and appreciated by art nuts including Mr. Burns. (Note: outsider art is apparently made by hillbillies, mental patients or chimpanzees lol). The rest of the episode revolves around Homer’s “art”, a great cameo by a kleptomaniac Jasper Johns, an epic nightmare including art masterpieces and Springfield becoming Venice without the bubonic plague.
So there you go my friends. The origin of the barbecue pit. In the TSTOniverse, it got built the right way. Everything’s coming up Milhouse!

My main game does not have the pit but my b game does. Anyone else having this problem?

I’m on level 49 in both towns. I’m building the summer house in both towns. Town A has 15 hours and some mints left and town B has 16 hours to finish. I always start everything with town A.
Very odd. It’s nowhere in any tabs or even in the opening screen when you first go in the main menu and just scroll instead of going into the tabs?

Just had to come and say, “Hey, hey!” I just scored SIX donuts from visiting neighbors today. SIX. That has *never* happened to me. Sure, two, maybe three on a good day, plenty of times I get zero or one. But SIX. I bet it’ll never happen again. Sure makes up for getting that silly newspaper dispenser yesterday in my weekly bonus box!
Just had to share it in a place where I knew someone would understand. No one else in my house plays. 🙂

Every time I build something from Ikea I always think of this episode and always say “le grille? what the hell is that?!” Best part is I speak French so I know what it is lol
“Aah that is one fine BBQ, why doesn’t mine look like that.”
One of my favorite lines comes from this episode. “Le grille, what the hell is that?” And the sceen where Homer is running at the bbq with an umbrella and screams always makes me laugh.
We should get Homers unsuccessful project too!
Sure would have loved some premium ones were the fails/art!
I think I’d have preferred it the way Homer built it. Or maybe both versions so you could have the Homer one in their backyard and the proper one everywhere else.
