WABAC Where Did THAT Come From – King Snorky

Well hello there fellow Addicts… how’s life?

In the steady grind of tapping in the free world, we sometimes see decorations and buildings and take them for granted.  While this is understandable, we may not realize that a great majority of items in TSTO actually come from the amazing show the game is based on.  With that in mind, Bunny and I aim to periodically provide you the origin info for decorations and buildings we missed, ignored or haven’t covered yet.  Time is a fickle thing (timey wimey even) and as Einstein said, “The only reason for time is so that everything doesn’t happen at once.”  There’s often not enough time in the TSTO continuum to do origins for everything, but while we have some, we’ve called on Mr. Peabody to help us along.  We’re using his WABAC (pronounced way back) Machine to go back in TSTO time.  With that premise, we bring you WABAC Where Did THAT Come From.  This particular journey is for King Snorky.

Of course this is another better late than never Halloween origin for you. Few mammals on the planet can truly compare to the brain pans of homo sapiens. Elephants come close but the true clever evil beings of planet Earth have to be dolphins. If you don’t believe me, just watch this documentary.

Of course, HGTTG fans also know mice are smarter than us but that’s a topic for another day. As for the documentary above, let’s just say watching it was one of my innocence lost moments in life. I saw it on TV but own it on VHS. Ever since I’ve called dolphins the humans of the sea and don’t particularly trust them. The origins for Snorky just confirm my suspicions.

Getting back to the task at hand, let’s go to the episode where King Snorky originates. Off to the watery third segment of “Treehouse of Horror XI” (S12:E1). Snorky’s segment is entitled “Night of the Dolphin”.

“Hmm, Bottlenose bruises. Blowhole burns. Flipper prints. This looks like the work of rowdy teens, cancel the prom.” ~ Chief Wiggum

Snorky of course is the Dolphin in question and we learn he hails from Marine World. Wouldn’t this look cool in our Squidport areas?

Dolphins are not the clowns of the sea my friends… they’re “grey, bottlenosed, intelligent Italians…. Errr, I mean dolphins.”  Non-fans might also refer to them as stupid hoop-jumping tuna munchers. Regardless of your opinion, Snorky is a captive dolphin at Marine World so Lisa (the ever mother loving animal lover that she is) frees him. Enter mysterious deaths by dolphin and the astonishing fact that Snorky is the dolphin King.

Of course his highness enlists the assistance of his fellow dolphins and they enslave humanity. Snorky also shocks the citizens of Springfields when he speaks man. The entire dolphin takeover is hilarious and a bit creepy. Is there any reason to wonder why man banished them to the ocean in the first place?

For anyone who’s followed my ramblings for a while, I was pretty enthused Snorky joined our games in 2013 and I am more than happy folks got a second chance to get him during Halloween 2014 if they were so inclined. Sure it’s not as good as dolphins running amok on the streets but there’s always next year. Just don’t make Snorky do tricks people… bad things can happen. Just read this post from a year ago if you don’t believe me.

This Treehouse of Horror segment is one of my absolute favorites. Really clever and I absolutely love the image from the very end. I love having Snorky in my town.  It’s somehow gratifying to tap him just to make him do tricks. Also was one of the inspirations for a 2D image I did a long ways back.
