Simpsons Meet the Jetsons

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

So while we’ve got a little break in the tapping action I thought it would be fun to take a look at something fun that happened during last Sunday’s episode of The Simpsons…for a brief moment they became the Jetsons!

The Jetsons is probably one of my all-time favorite cartoons, so I was excited to see this in Sunday night’s episode!

It feels like this was initially supposed to be the couch gag, but was replaced by the awesome pixel intro instead (one that many of you sent us via comments & emails on a couple of weeks ago when it first came out).  So it was a little odd to see it start up the show, but I still thought it was funny nonetheless.  Although Homer attempting to shoot Marge was a little odd…

Of and of course you have to love the Bender sighting!

Of course this isn’t the first time The Simpsons “remade” a classic Hanna-Barbera show.  Way back during Season 4, they had a little nod to the Flintstones…

Sorry for the rough YouTube video…

What are your thoughts on the Jetsons intro?  Thoughts on the Simpsons twist to it?  What other classic shows intros would you like to see them “remake”?  Sound off in the comments below, you know we love hearing from!

  1. Why were people speculating that the next big thing might be a Comic-Con event? The convention isn’t until July. Just curious.

  2. Yeah, the part with the laser guy looked more like Peter (from Family Guy) type of thing to do, than Homer… unless it was pointed at Bart.

BTW, did I read that there is likely something new this week? Cool! ***Dokkidokkidokki…Matsumotocompu calculating***…
Setting tasks to 10 hours or less, des!

Heh, getting that restaurant plane would have made sense in cases like this, but then I’d have virtually no sweetage for anything else (after grabbing Brandine, that is.)

    • We’ll probably see something this week…as far as what that’s still debatable.

And yea, it looked like something from Quahog…but at least Marge fought back 😉

Actually, I think that is exactly what happened. The pixel art opening was created by Paul Robertson and Ivan Dixon as a tribute to The Simpsons. It wasn’t made by Fox. What I am assuming what happened was that the creative powers that be of the actual ‘The Simpsons’ at Fox enjoyed it so much that they used it as the couch gag instead of The Jetsons parody one they already had made. So they tacked it on the front of the episode as the opening. Remember they already did a Minecraft parody version of the couch gag not too long ago which essentially is a pixel art opening (it’s interesting watching the two back to back). The one created by Robertson and Dixon is more like an 8-bit pixel game from back in my day.

  4. I loved it! Especially seeing Bender 😀

  5. The Jetson clip was great! I just know why Bender had the job with the bucket/shovel lol! Flintones was great too! Not sure how to quite feel about the pixel one but being it was Spimpson related, i loved it anyway!

  6. Hard to believe that took 25+ years to parody.

Fun fact: The Jetsons only ran for one season from September 1962 to March 1963..24 episodes. Not counting the awful 80s revival and movies and such.

    Ditto Jonny Quest.

  7. I can’t believe it took 26 years to actually do. That doesn’t even seem possible based on how much they’ve poked fun of other popular shows throughout the years. 🙂

  8. Oh, and a game related question for our dear hosts: Have there been any hints as to when the next TSTO game event will start?

  9. It was a major hoot and a half. I backed the DVR up twice just to re-watch the intro…and yes, the Bender cameo was priceless.

(I’ll also admit that while some of the surreal intros are interesting, I usually don’t get what they’re trying to do or why. Like the pixel one. Or that exceedingly weird one from some months back where it jumps further and further into the future until nothing makes any sense at all.)

  10. William Bergheimer

Why not do all the old sitcoms? Homwe as Duck Van Dyke, Marge as Mary Tyler Moore, Barr as Dennis the Menace or Leave it to Beaver, Lisa as Patty Duke Santas Luttle Helper as Lassie, etc…

  11. Scooby Doo intro would be cool.

Meanwhile, I wonder if they are thinking about making TJTO….

  12. Seeing The Simpsons in Jetsons form made me grin ear-to-ear 😀
    Thanks for posting this!
