Well Homer’s 2014 New Year’s Resolutions to EA continue to come true! Who remembers back on New Year’s Day 2014 when Homer said this…
“But there better be some awesome stuff planned for 2014. Like the Monorail, and the Stonecutters, and a proper version of Sideshow Bob……and those are just a few of the great ideas I found on the internet!”
Well…we’ve had Stonecutters and now here’s Sideshow Bob! (does this mean the Monorail is around the corner!?)
Anywho…remember this is an app store update so you’ll have to check out your app stores for the download. This will not automatically update in your game…you must have the app store download first.
Currently it’s only live on iOS. Android and kindle sit tight, should be up soon.
Updated is live on all platforms.
As always we’ll be back with more info as soon as we go through it all….
Cecil will be awarded to you for free when the update starts. He’ll have a short task and then you’ll need Lisa free for the next part. After that you’ll need Homer. So try your best to keep Lisa & Homer free….
The Event should auto start for you and the very first character you’ll unlock is Cecil Terwilliger….
Cecil is free and you’ll be first tasked to have him make amends (not to be confused with Almonds). This will take 4hrs to complete.
Next up you’ll need Lisa free for part 2. Where you’ll have to send 4 Springfielders to vote on whether or not Cecil can stay in Springfield. This will take 1hr…but remember you need to send 4 characters.
Homer will then start part 3…where you’ll be required to build Monsarno Research. You’ll find it in your store and it’ll also be FREE. However it is an 8hr build.
Once completed the event will kick off for you!
This event, once again, is combining elements from other events. You’ll have prizes, crafting and daily tasks to complete! As well as upgrades to help you earn even more! And this event will be broken up into different parts. So in about 14 days we’ll see even more prizes added!
To access the Event Menu (prizes and others) click on the Knife trophy in the bottom right of your screen (remember this won’t appear until AFTER you’ve built Monsarno research. )
From here you’ll be able to access the prizes, crafting items, Cecil’s daily tasks and the basic event overview. Here’s the breakdown:
Prizes are the first items listed (Trophy icon on the left):
You’ll notice that the currency for Act One is a Shovel. It’ll look like this:

Monsarno Founder Statue- 1,050 
200 Fertilizer- 1,550 (you’ll need this for crafting)
200 Corn- 2,100 (you’ll need this for crafting)
Old Simpson Farm House- 4,200

Next let’s talk about crafting…
You’ll find the crafting menu just below the prizes menu in the event guide…
There are tons of goodies for you to craft! Right now there are 2 main crafting items:

Now the final category…Cecil’s Daily Tasks. Much like the Elf Tunnel at Christmas and Number 1’s daily Tasks during Stonecutters…you’ll have to complete a series of tasks to earn more rewards. Each task pays out different rewards:
You will have to complete each task within the day in order for it to count toward that day’s goal. You will have until Midnight in YOUR timezone to complete the tasks. So that’s 12am where ever you are in the world to complete it.
The tasks listed WILL vary per person. So what you see above…which is for me…may be different for you. However, the timing should all be the same. We’ll have a complete breakdown of this in another post for those of you that are confused.
But basically…make sure you check and complete Cecil’s Daily tasks each day to earn more currency for more prizes!
Completing the first one today will earn you:

Once you’ve complete the first task you’ll have to go back to Cecil. You’ll see him in your town with this over his head:
That means he has a new task for you to do. Also note that you can find him quickly by going to the Go To button in the Daily Task Menu.

Remember to check back everyday to complete Cecil’s Daily Task to earn even more currency for prizes and crafting!
Upgrading Monsarno Research
Much like the Superhero Event, you can upgrade Monsarno Research to unlock tasks for characters and more!
Upgrading will cost you Fertilizer and Corn (it’s not just for crafting).
Here’s what it’ll look like when you’re ready to upgrade to Level 2…
After you’ve upgraded you’ll unlock a job for Gluttons to get Corn:
They’ll have a 16hr task to Feed the Hunger, which will earn you 9 Ears of Corn.
UPDATE BUNNY: Here are a few more Upgrade Levels for Monsarno as it seems it is causing questions in the comments to spark…
Level 3: Jobs Unlocked for Pessimists to get Fertilizer (Conclude It’s All Pointless, 4hrs, 5 Corn)
Level 4: Jobs Unlocked for Youngsters to get Corn (Eat Too Much Candy Corn, 8hrs, 5 Corn)
Level 5: Jobs Unlocked for Seniors to get Fertilizer (Don’t Care About the Future, 2hrs, 3 Corn). FREE Monsarno Cafeteria (unlocks it as well to Craft More)
Level 6: Jobs Unlocked for Criminals to get Corn (Be Sold to a Private Company, 4hrs, 3 Corn)
Level 7: Increases Fertilizer Awards from jobs (2hrs to 5/ 4hrs to 8 Fertilizer), FREE Monsarno Chimp Research (unlocks it as well to Craft More)
The Levels stop at 7 until next Phase of Event.

Mutant Attacks
Once you’ve completed Chaos She-ory Pt. 1 you’ll unlock the ability to have Mutant roam around your Springfield…
For this first part they’ll look like this…
And tapping on them to clear them will earn you more shovels, Fertilizer and corn!
Looks like you’ll earn 7 Shovels and 4 Corn/Fertilizer for each one you tap in your town.
Clearing Mutant Plants also earns you the chance for more Mutant Seeds.
Friend’s Towns
Once you’ve reached Chaos She-ory Pt. 2 you’ll unlock the ability to earn more from your neighbors.
This is a Mutant Seedling. And you’ll be asked to deploy these in your neighbor’s towns. You’ll be able to deploy 10 Mutant Seedlings in a Neighbors town at a time. (10 per neighbor…5 in Other Springfield) Sending a neighbor Mutant seedlings will earn them more rewards when they squish them. You’ll also earn more rewards for squishing any in your own town.
The Big green one in the middle is what they look like when they’re in your town…
In addition to Mutant Seedlings…you’ll also be able to Tap 3 Mutant plants in your friend’s town. Tapping them will earn you more rewards!
You’ll earn 1 Shovel for every plant you tap in your neighbor’s town.
When a neighbor leaves you Mutant Seedlings they’ll turn into Mutant Blobs and look like this:
They move quickly through your town, so you’ll have to be fast to catch them. Tapping on them will earn you rewards of either Shovels, Fertilizer or Corn. And yes, you’ll want to tap on them as both you and your neighbor benefit when you tap on them and clear them.

Earning More…
Shovels can be earned a couple of different ways. First, by completely Cecil’s Daily Tasks. You’ll earn more shovels for each task you complete.
You can also earn shovels for completing the questline. Each completed part should earn you 100 additional Shovels.
Shovels can also be earned through Monsarno Research. The building payout is every 8hrs and each payout will earn you shovels. You’ll earn 120 Shovels every 8hrs from Monsarno Research.
You’ll also be able to earn more Shovels by squishing Mutant Plants in both your town and your friend’s town.
Fertilizer can be earned a couple of different ways. First off you can earn it by completing Cecil’s Daily Tasks. Each task you complete you’ll earn more.
Also, various characters will have tasks to earn Fertilizer. And once you upgrade to Level 3 it’ll unlock the ability for Pessimists to have a Fertilizer earning task.
You’ll also earn more Fertilizer as you earn more prizes. 200 Fertilizer is listed as a prize twice. So plenty of chances to get it.
Corn is earned by completing character tasks to earn it. When up upgrade to Level 2 in your game you’ll unlock a task for Gluttons to earn corn.
Corn can also be earned by earning prizes. Corn is listed as a prize twice.
More corn can also be earned by Squishing Mutant Plants in your town.
Mutant Seedlings are earned via the prize track. You’ll earn 50 Mutant Seedlings as one of the prizes.
In addition some will be rewarded to you at various points in the questline.
Mutant Seeds can also be found when you clear Mutant Plants from your town. Occasionally one will pop out with the shovels and fertilizer/corn.
Mutant Seeds can also be purchased in the store for donuts. Here’s the breakdown:
1 Seed- 1 Donut
5 Mutant Seeds- 3 Donuts
10 Mutant Seeds- 5 Donuts
25 Mutant Seeds- 10 Donuts

A few new premium items available in the store right now…
In addition to the Mutant Seeds listed above you can also purchase…
Farming License- 90 Donuts. Will allow you to harvest more Mutants from your friends towns. If purchased you’ll earn 2 Shovels per Mutant Plant you tap in a neighbor’s town. You know the drill with these by now…just like events past. (Leaves when Event Ends)
It’s a Wonderful Knife- 150 Donuts. Earns $90, 10xp/2hrs. Comes with little Gino. (Leaves when Event Ends)
Republican Party HQ- 90 Donuts. Earns $500, 45xp/24hrs. (you have 2 weeks to purchase. Leaves when act 2 starts)
Museum of Swordfish- 70 Donuts. Earns $350, 35xp/16hrs. (you have 2 weeks to purchase. Leaves when act 2 starts)
Free Donuts
Yes once again it looks like you’ll have a chance for some free premium currency with this event. Once you’ve cleared all of the prizes you’ll get the Digging Deep questline. For every 3,000 Shovels you collect you’ll have a chance to earn 1, 2 or 3 donuts.
And that my friends completes the basic rundown information of the Terwilliger Event!

At what point in this event will sideshow bob be able to get as a payable character? Also after you we get him will he stop randomly appearing like normal?
Sideshow Bob becomes playable once you unlock him. You’ll unlock him at the end of the Act 2 questline.
And yup, he’ll stop popping up randomly.
is there a post about exactly what each level upgrade for the Monsarno Research will give you? i would just like to see it listed in total so i can know where to stop.

Ahhh. I woulda done much better maybe if i didn’t have so many stragglers. I looked at my leaderboard and theres at least 20 friends with 0’s down at the bottom. So i got room for a few more. Add me jon_wax
Before this update I used to get 1-2 donuts a day visiting friends. Since the update I haven’t received one donut (I have 100 friends, visit them daily and have max FP). It’s now been 11 days. Has anybody else had this issue that they no longer get donuts visiting friends
Nope – just got two tonight (and one yesterday, I think). It’s random, so sometimes you can just hit a “dry spell” for a few days.
Do you know how can I unlock the rest of the Terwilliger family?

What do you mean? Where in questlines are you?
When I started this quest, I was abroad (different time zone, 5 hours ahead) for a wedding. Now that I’m back to EST, Cecil’s timer is running out at 6 pm instead of midnight because of the time difference. Is there any way to fix this?!
You can try uninstalling and reinstalling TSTO. That may help trigger it to the right timezone. Also logout of Origin and back in. It that doesn’t work you can try contacting EA and see what they suggest.
You probably covered it (since you cover everything), but when and why does my Knife trophy bounce? I assume it means I have something left in my town to squish? Thanks!
Usually means something new in the hub. Either you’ve unlocked the ability to craft a prize, or you just have more corn and fertilizer.
Should I craft the Cane field first or, save up for the Spingfield Farmers Market?? What are the benefits of the Cane Field? Decoration only? Thanks addicts team!!
