Where Did THAT Come From: Canyonero

In our silly lil game, we sometimes see things pop in that we have no clue as to their Origin. They seem familiar, but we just can’t pinpoint from where. So that is why we decided to make a fun lil reminder out of it. To let you know just Where Did THAT Come From?

Canyonero Friendship Prize

This post I will be going over the Origin of the Canyonero. Dropped into our games courtesy of Level 50 for the Level 15 Friendship Prize. Why is this in our game? Where did it appear in an episode? Why is it… so BIG? Let’s dive into the Simpsons TV Series to find out more.

Season 9, Episode 15: Last Temptation of Krust
Krusty’s luck at Comedy is just not all it is cracked up to be. After getting humiliated with other Comedians, like Jay Leno, Krusty sulks and has a press conference to announce he is calling it quits. Though it backfires. He finds that trashing other comics is actually boosting interest in him again. So, he pulls his hair back… literally… and starts the NEW Krusty material.

While at a Comedy Club, Krusty sparks a riot in the audience to join with him against “fat cats and corporations” and “selling out” for advertising by burning a dollar. Some of those advertisers he is rioting against just happen to be in the audience. They set out to get Krusty to do just what he is speaking out against… selling out. They offer Krusty his very own FREE Fully Loaded Canyonero.Canyonero 1

Krusty turns to look at the other Comedians and keeps telling the advertisers no while pushing them out the door. Every time they say free, his hair pops back up and he has to pull it back again. He finally tells them stop saying it and pushes them all the way out the door.

Later he goes to his “Brew Ha Ha” and tells the audience what happened and how he pushed them out the door. How they followed him home pushing him to take it for a test drive…. and it looks like they got him. He starts promoting the Canyonero and the crowd walks out. It ain’t comedy in his blood… it’s selling out.Canyonero 2

Cue the Song…

Can you name the truck with four wheel drive,
smells like a steak and seats thirty-five..

Canyonero! Canyonero!

Well, it goes real slow with the hammer down,
It’s the country-fried truck endorsed by a clown!

Canyonero! (Yah!) Canyonero!
(Krusty: Hey Hey)

(Legal Voice: The Federal Highway commission has ruled the Canyonero unsafe for highway or city driving.)

Canyonero!

12 yards long, 2 lanes wide,
65 tons of American Pride!

Canyonero! Canyonero!

Top of the line in utility sports,
Unexplained fires are a matter for the courts!

Canyonero! Canyonero! (Yah!)

She blinds everybody with her super high beams,
She’s a squirrel crushing, deer smacking, driving machine!

Canyonero!-oh-woah, Canyonero! (Yah!)

Drive Canyonero!

Woah Canyonero! Woah!

Season 10, Episode 15: Marge Simpson in: “Screaming Yellow Honkers”
The “Talent Show” at the Elementary by the Teachers has all the Parents rushing out the door in horror. Traffic is jammed while everyone floods the streets in their cars. Marge is getting frustrated with everyone telling her how to drive, but then… Krusty flies on by in his Canyonero. The family watches in amazement as he goes “off road” through the playground to get around the traffic. Homer is in love.

The next day, Homer is at the O.K. Car-al to check out this awesome vehicle he saw. He drools all over the cars. Ol’ Gil is there to help Homer out. Homer sees a red one and wants to buy it right away, but Stan takes the sale away from Ol’ Gil as they head on in to sign the papers.Canyonero 3

Homer drives his new car to work and is whistled at by Lenny & Carl. They thought he was one of those Hot Soccer Moms, as he is driving the FEMALE version of the Canyonero. The “F” Series. They continue to tease and taunt him so he takes off. Back home Homer searches for Marge’s Station Wagon keys so he won’t have to be embarrassed. She tells him no. He hot wires the Wagon and takes off anyway leaving Marge no choice but to take the Canyonero. She starts to really fall in love with all the perks and features it has to offer. Like a step ladder to get in and a sun roof for her hair to fit through. Even the computer asks here where SHE wants to go. After getting her groceries, Marge is stuck again in Gridlock. This time though, Bart convinces her to cut through the land and right to the house. So she does… and the SUV takes hold of her.

Now with Marge obsessed with her new vehicle, she stops paying attention to things… like the kids and Homer. She even starts to become quite the aggressive driver. The road is HERS and hers only. Everyone else better get out of the way. Even honking and yelling at drivers to “Go back to New Jersey!”Canyonero 4

Not even Funeral Processions or cops are allowed to get in her way. Wiggum isn’t too happy about it, pulls her over, gives her a ticket, and forces her to take a Driving Course on Road Rage. After the class, it seems like all those with Road Rage are a lot better, including Marge… until she gets back into the Canyonero. She is stuck once again and decides to rage drive, runs over Agnes’ & Kearney’s Cars, almost has a head on collision, swerves and ends up knocking through the fence on the Penitentiary. Snake of course thanks her for letting them out. Wiggum asks her for her license and since he can’t tear it up, asks her to.

She is back home quite upset. Homer cracks a joke and quickly takes off out the door with the kids knowing he went too far. They head to the Wild Animal Kingdom “Born Free, Then Caged”… where things are just too boring for them, so Homer shoots a Lemur with Bart’s slingshot. This starts a chain event of actions the end up causing a Rhino herd to stampede and crash down the fences. Then the animals chase everyone out of the park. Only one thing is rugged enough to corral all these animals back, Marge & the Canyonero.

Wiggum goes to plead and beg with Marge, but she is still too upset… until she sees her family being surrounded by the Rhino’s. Marge to the rescue. She corrals them back to the Park. One is left and takes off down the road with Homer hanging from his horn. The Rhino isn’t backing down. Homer is doomed, stuck in a Port O Potty at a Construction Site with the Rhino charging at him. Only one thing left to do… Marge swerves the SUV and bails out. The SUV rolls and stops bursting into flames. (Something she learned SUVs do from Dateline & Stone Phillips.) Rhino’s instincts kick in and it runs to the fire instead.

Now there are other times you may catch a glimpse of the Canyonero, like in this episode…

Season 24, Episode 1: Moonshine River
Bart is trying to seek out his true love in New York City. In the background you can see the Canyonero Hybrid on one of the Building Advertising Boards.Canyonero 5

There you have it, another interesting vehicle was added to our mix in Springfield (not to mention my fav vehicle in the Simpsons games). What do you think of it? Do you remember other episodes where it appeared? Win it yet in the FP Prizes? Where did you put it? Got the song stuck in your head now?  Let us know below.

  1. Mine’s on a barge, being towed out to sea by a Greenpeace ship. (Barge = two Squidport tiles)

  2. I mentioned this back when the item was released (and I’m sure I wasn’t the only one), but I really wish tapping on it would have played a little segment of the song (like the Stonecutter Table does). That would have been great.

  3. It should be noted that the Canyonero song is sung Hank Williams, Jr.

  4. Love it! Can’t wait to unlock it. A few friend levels to go first…

  5. I love the Canyonero. Mainly cuz of the song.

I think I’d’ve actually spent donuts to get it so was very happy that it was free.

What about the build board In the Simsoramma

    • We try to hit on as many as we can, but often times we can’t hit on every reference for an item. So we try to pick the best and most descriptive appearances.
