Terwilliger Guide to Crafting: Act One Crafting

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

It’s Terwilliger time in TSTO!  Yes, the Terwilliger’s are back (well at least Cecil so far) and they’re set on making not only the Simpson’s lives a nightmare, but ours as well!  Mutant Veggies, upgrades and CRAFTING!  Ahhh!

I know many of you are panicking about crafting and just how you’ll earn enough Fertilizer and Corn to get everything.  Well don’t worry, we’re here to break it all down for you.  And I promise, it’s not as much of a nightmare as you might think it is.  Just pace yourself, and remember it won’t happen overnight.

So now let’s breakdown all the fun of Crafting during Act 1…shall we?

monsarno

First, let’s start with some basics…

How Do I View the Crafting Menu?

You can view the Crafting Menu by bringing up your Event Hub.  Remember the Event Hub can be accessed by tapping on the Sideshow Bob Trophy in the bottom right corner with the knives in it…looks like this:

ico_terwilligers_trophy

Once you bring up the Event Hub you’ll want to find the icon on the left with the laboratory beaker.  Looks like this:

ico_terwilligers_craftingtab

This will show you the Crafting Menu.  Here’s how it will look in the Event Hub:

How Can I See My Current Fertilizer and Corn Counts?

Ok so now that we’ve covered the basics…let’s cover a little more of what you guys are wanting to know….

How Long Do I Have To Craft These Items, Will They Disappear When Act 2 Starts?

The simple answer is…no they will not disappear when Act 2 starts.  Here are a few clues as to why we think this…the Crafting Menu shows that New prizes will be added, it says nothing about prizes ending.   Additionally, look at past Events where crafting was involved (Halloween/Superheros) you’ve had a long time to craft.

2015-04-21-00-47-19

So don’t stress so much about how long it’s going to take you to craft an item, they’re meant to be long term goals…not something that will happen overnight.  So pace yourself and play at your speed.

What About the Farmer’s Market Quest, Do I Need to Finish That to Move On?

The Farmer’s Market quest (represented by a spotlight in your task book, sidebar_spotlamp) is a Side Quest and not required to move onto Act 2.  It’s a long term goal, meant to remind you about crafting, but you do not have to complete it to move on.

It’s Hard Seeing My Fertilizer and Corn go to Upgrading, Should I Upgrade Monsarno or Focus on Crafting?

ico_terwilligers_monsarnoupgrade_md

Focus on Upgrading.  Once you reach Level 7 you’ll max out upgrading for Act 1, and then you can start to focus on earning Corn and Fertilizer for Crafting.  The reason you’ll want to Upgrade to Level 7 is with each new level you’ll unlock more characters that can earn Corn and Fertilizer.  We have a full breakdown on this here. (including character tasks and how much they earn) .

Note: there is a glitch going around with upgrading.  It’s not a critical glitch and it won’t stop game play, BUT once you’ve Upgraded to Level 7 and earned more Corn/Fertilizer you may see the upgrade Icon over Monsarno Research… upgrade.  BUT you cannot Level Up past Level 7 until Act 2 starts, so if you see this Icon and you’re already at Level 7 just ignore it.  It won’t impact your game, it’ll just drive you crazy.

When Does Act 2 Start?

Act 2 starts April 28th.

It Costs So Much Fertilizer and Corn to Get the Farmer’s Market, How Can I Earn More?

ico_terwilligers_upgrade_fertilizer ico_terwilligers_upgrade_corn

Yes, crafting the Farmer’s Market seems daunting.  It may feel like you’ll never get there, but remember it’s a long term goal.  You won’t get there overnight (unless you use donuts), so it’s important to pace yourself.

Currently there are only 4 ways to earn Corn & Fertilizer.  Sending characters on tasks to earn it, clearing Mutant Vegetables in your town, Completing Cecil’s Daily Tasks & Sending/tapping Mutant Seedlings.  So if you’re looking for tips to earn more…there really aren’t any.  Just keep sending as many characters as you can out on Fertilizer and Corn tasks.

My strategy…I pick the shortest task times for each Character.  And go into my game as frequently as I can (usually between 2-4hrs) to clear/reassign tasks.  Once you’ve upgraded to Level 7 here are the tasks and what they’ll earn you:

Character Set/Task Task Length Earns Lvls 1-6 Earns Lvls 7+
Dimwits for Fertilizer 8hr ico_terwilligers_fertilizer_lg 14 ico_terwilligers_fertilizer_lg
Gluttons For Corn 16hr ico_terwilligers_corn_lg ico_terwilligers_corn_lg
Pessimists for Fertilizer 4hrs ico_terwilligers_fertilizer_lg ico_terwilligers_fertilizer_lg
Youngsters for Corn 8hrs ico_terwilligers_corn_lg ico_terwilligers_corn_lg
Seniors for Fertilizer 2hrs ico_terwilligers_fertilizer_lg ico_terwilligers_fertilizer_lg
Criminals for Corn 4hrs ico_terwilligers_corn_lg ico_terwilligers_corn_lg

For character lists check out this post.

The best advice is to just keep sending characters on tasks frequently.  And the reason I pick the short tasks?  Well just take a look…Agnes Skinner is both a Pessimist and a Senior.  Well if I send her on the Senior Task every 2hrs I’ll earn 10 Fertilizer/4hrs.  Versus sending her on the Pessimist task every 4hrs, where i’d only earn 8 Fertilizer/4hrs.  So I earn 2 more fertilizer/4hrs by sending her on the Senior task and clearing it every 2hrs, than sending her on the Pessimist task every 4hrs.  Make sense?

So now that more of your common Crafting questions have been answered….let’s take a look at what you can actually craft and the details.

Crafting Item Breakdown

For Act One there are 3 items to craft initially and 2 more added as you level up Monsarno.  Let’s take a look at each item and how it will impact your Springfield..

canefield

Item: Cane Field
Cost:
4,500 ico_terwilligers_fertilizer_lg  1,400 ico_terwilligers_corn_lg
Size:
3×3
Conform-O-Meter Impact:
Tree-Hugging +10
Can I Craft Multiples:
Yes, Should be at the same crafting rate
Benefit  in Springfield:
Decoration, no added benefit other than looks
Should I Craft?:
This is one I would say if you have an idea for where it should go, craft it.  But the Cane Field is better if crafted in multiples for certain looks.  I would hold off on crafting this until towards the end of the event.  Since you’ll need multiples.

sanijohnsmokehouseflipped

 Item: Sani-John Smokehouse
Cost:
8,250 ico_terwilligers_fertilizer_lg  2,500 ico_terwilligers_corn_lg
Size:
2×2
Conform-O-Meter Impact:
Vanity +300
Can I Craft Multiples:
Yes, should be at same crafting rate
Benefit  in Springfield:
Just a decoration, no real benefit.
Should I Craft?:
Unless you REALLY want this item, or you have Fertilizer and Corn to burn at the end of the event, this one is a pass for me.  No benefit and doesn’t seem worth the Fertilizer/Corn.

springfieldfarmersmarketflipped

Item: Springfield Farmer’s Market
Cost:
15,250 ico_terwilligers_fertilizer_lg  4,600 ico_terwilligers_corn_lg

Conform-O-Meter Impact:
Consumerism +10
Can I Craft Multiples:
Yes, should be at same crafting rate.
Benefit  in Springfield:
Will earn you $75, 7xp/3hrs.  Plus impacts Consumerism, one of the hardest areas to max out.
Should I Craft?:
Yes, for the consumerism benefit alone.  This building is the only craftable building for Act 1 that’s actually worth the time and effort of grinding out Corn and Fertilizer.  I would aim for this one first after you’ve leveled up past Level 7 at Monsarno.

monsarnocafeteria

Item: Monsaro Cafeteria
Cost:
4,250 ico_terwilligers_fertilizer_lg  1,600 ico_terwilligers_corn_lg

None.  It’s just a big decoration.  Will not earn you cash/xp, it’ll just sit there.
Should I Craft?:
No.  You’re awarded one for free once you level up Monsarno to Level 5.  And the free one should be plenty for your Springfield.  Don’t waste your Fertilizer/Corn on this one.

And that my friends covers all the details of crafting during Act 1!

Remember, crafting is meant to be a long term goal, so take your time.  Don’t feel like you need to craft everything overnight, because you won’t.  It’ll take some time to achieve all your crafting goals, so be patient.  And remember…don’t use donuts to rush crafting!  It’s just not worth it.  Save those sprinkles for something more important down the road.

What are your thoughts on Act 1 Crafting?  Which prizes will you be going for?  Which ones will you be passing on?  Sound off in the comments below, you know we love hearing from you!

  1. When does Act 2 begin? I am not able to upgrade the research center and I don’t see the little “walking weeds” (I don’t know their names lol ) to click on to get more fertilizer. 🙁 Am I missing something?

  2. Guys!
It really is easily achievable. I took a screenshot 2 Shovels\Trowels\Spades before finishing.
Screenshot: http://i.imgur.com/o8Puz79.jpg or (perhaps that worked?)

You need SPADES \ SHOVELS. You only get these after completing jobs, NOT dropping gremlin-like plants into neighbouring towns! ONLY 3 Actions per Day in each Neighbour and completing Jobs will get you Trowels. So try and get people to do 1hr, 2hr, 4hr jobs like the primary person doing the main job. Then everyone will be free afterwards. (e.g. do 2hr of $$ job or Corn\Fertilizer job).

TO REPEAT, USING YOUR FERTILIZER AND CORN TO UPGRADE DOES **NOT** MATTER! YOU MUST COLLECT *SHOVELS* \ *SPADES*!!!

What REALLY pissed me off with Super Hero’s challenge was in Part 3 EVERYTHING disappeared! So there I was thinking I could save my currency until the end of Part 3 and then purchase! COME ON EA!!! GIve people a 72 grace period after an event to purchase things! WE DO HAVE LIVES!

NOTE: 1st job of day = lowest reward! Each successive job earns MORE shovels\spades and fertilizer. 🙂
When you reach Level 7, by upgrading your research centre, you will earn MORE fertilizer per job. 🙂

    GOOD LUCK!

  3. So many people seem to be freaking out about the market. I just built it without spending a single doughnut. Just stay on task and this event seems pretty easy.

  4. I just got enough corn and fertilizer to craft the farmers market but I was wondering if I should wait for act 2 to start and use it to level up the monsarno instead. Any thoughts?

    • I recommend crafting the market as soon as you can so it’s off your focus and you can focus on the new prizes that will be added.

  5. I can’t be the the only one who wanted jhonny Depp to maybe be a cameo in this as his charachter in the movie where he goes crazy as a writer and ends up with a split personality and goes complete crazy.

Because of the part where his alter ego says I’m gonna burn you’re life to the ground like a cane field in a high wind.

    Or something like that.

It would unlock after say unlocking 4-6 cane fields.

It would be creepy as hell but no one can’t tell me that would be awesome.

And that’s why my ideas are 0ut of the box.

Ea needs to think out side the box.

  6. Dilemma – for characters who can earn corn and fertilizer, which should I pick? Corn seems harder to get, but more fertilizer is needed to craft items.

  7. I don’t have any corn why? No jobs pay you in corn!!! Anyone else having this problem?

  8. ehh strike that its going to be harder then that. The wiki states it upgrades to level 25 in the 3rd part.

  9. So we are about 75% done wih Act 1, and I do not even have half of the fertilizers needed for the market (let alone the other items). Unless they increas that 14 reward to 140 I cannot understand how we can make it at all.
With Act 2 we have to depleat our resources even more on upgrades. EA is making it too tough, I’m too old to get up trice a night starting those 2 hrs!

  10. I’m worried that I won’t be able to craft the farmers market I have only about 4500 fertilizer and same amount of corn. I play everyday and my characters are doing tasks to earn fertilizer all the time. They really made it hard to get this!

    • I disagree. I’m at 6368 fertilizer and 3987 corn.

So really regularly checking in (ever couple of hours during work day) has only gotten me about 1800 more fertilizer.

Furthermore, the event has still got another 32 days to go and only a week or so has past. You’ll probably end up with at least 22500 fertilizer at this rate.

      • I agree with Devicede I read somewhere that the building levels up to 14 That is 7 more levels that all the fertilizer and corn we have now (and then some) will have to go to. I think its going to be a very close one if we get the Farmers market crafted by the end of the event.

  11. Can I just check that the amount of fertiliser and corn we earn rolls over to act 2 because I’m not convinced that I’m going to earn enough fertiliser for the market because I’ve only got 4000 and I updated the building to level 7 at the weekend so it’s taking ages to build up even tho I keep sending characters to do tasks etc

  12. Thanks so much for this guide! Extremely helpful!!

  13. I’ve upgraded mine to level 7 and working on getting more stuff to start crafting.. Half way to the market! But once I get there (eventually) should I wait until act 2 starts so I can upgrade the building more instead? Does that even make sense it’s been a long day! 😋

  14. I am on level 48, been playing for ages. I am on level 7 and it’s telling me I can’t upgrade to act 2. Why is this??? Help!!!!! 🙂

  15. I have my research up to level 7 a couple of days ago, will probably get the last act prize today, hit every daily task have been constantly sending everyone available for fertiliser but I still only have 2000 – I feel like I am really behind on this. What sort of numbers does everyone else have?

My town is at level 28 and I have a couple of premium characters.

    • I’m in an almost identical situation, with the same counts. From the sound of it, it’s all about patience. I doubt anyone has the farmer’s market yet without using donuts…though I suppose I could be wrong.

  16. This Tapper focused on Upgrading his Monsarno Building asap to Level 7 (yes it used up accumulated Fertilizer and Corn, but the benefits of getting more Springfield Characters to earn you Fertilizer and Corn is worth it!) and didn’t have to Craft the Monsarno Cafeteria and Monsarno Chimp Lab ….

Thank you for letting Tappers know that “crafting the Springfield Farmers Market” side quest doesn’t disappear after Act 1 ends (I’ve earned half the required Fertilizer and Corn needed, its going to take a week to earn the rest). Tappers need to be aware what’s “worth crafting” (ie improves your town rating, earns $, earns XP points, etc) vs what’s “not worth crafting” 🙂

  17. It seems as if there won’t be any change in currency (fetilizer, spades and corn) between Act 1 and 2. If that is that is the case, should we not be hoarding our mutant seedlings? Do you suggest letting them all go in our neighbor’s towns?
Thanks! Loving all the updates from you three!

    • Spades will change from Act 1 to Act 2, there will be a different currency to earn prizes. Fertilizer and Corn will remain for Act 2, however new items will be added for crafting as well.

If’s up to you if you want to hoard them or place them. I’m doing a combination of both.

  18. Grinding after the “SpringfieldFarmer’sMarket” before Act2 begin!!!

  19. Im really loving this event, I have wanted SSB as a real character for ages. ****

  20. I’m really looking forward to getting the farmer’s market someday…I love the idea of having something it in my Springfield and I think it will make Lisa happy, too! 😉

  21. Buy some premium charachters people.
    It helps.

Not all at once but if you love the Simpsons and are a gamer if say one new charachter every 1-2 paychecks is decent.

Also they help a lot during events.

I’m still 26 away from what I need to cap all of the premium ones.

But thanks to that I’ve earned tons of free event charachters that help on other events as well.

    it’s a process.

Ones that help out in act 1 which I have that help are.

    1.Otto
    2.Hans moleman
    3.Space mutant
    4.Hugs bunny (Easter event)-won
    5.duff man
    6.Squeaky voiced teen
    7.Kearney
    8.Hugo(Halloween)-won
    9.Dr nick
    10.Utter
    11.Barney

I also have some more but not sure if theyll all help.
I know kang and a few other work the fields.
The more you collect the more it helps for unlocking event charachters as well.

Each charachter is an investment. Think of it that way.

Kind of like in call of duty where you buy add on weapons. Even different reticles for guns which in some case helps you better at aiming. Happy tapping.

    • You’re absolutely right. Unlike the Family Guy game, premium characters have a much higher long term value in Tapped Out.

  22. Freemium player here and….

…today I unlocked the Mutant plant veggie thingy. Also Im at ~4kish fertilizer and ~5kish corn (for comparison purposes).

I was really hoping the Mutant would have had a task for extra fertz/corn but it doesnt appear so. So Im gonna go back to the daily trudge of grinding around 1k per day. I dont think the farmer’s market is possible to craft at all for freemium players in Act 1, so maybe we should just wait for the rest of the story to unlock. I myself am going to save as much materials I can muster so when Act 2 goes live, hopefully I would have enough to maximize the upgrade for the Monsanro building right off the bat.

  23. I updated my game a while back & Cecil did a couple tasks but now he’s gone!?!?! My game does not have any of the content show above but in my characters I have Cecil but when I look for him in the town hall he’s not there. I have closed the game out & shut my iPad down but still nothing.

    Thank you!!

    • He’s still there…he just doesn’t have any tasks. He’s not a playable character as of yet. He’s just “running the event”, meaning he’ll be used for daily tasks…but tasks for others, not for him. He’s just roaming around your Springfield…

      • Ok, thank you!! So I’m NOT supposed to have any of the craft item lists yet, right. Thank you!!!

  24. OtriviaLaLavia

Check your spend donut confirm notification setting! While looking for Comic Book Guy I mistakenly rushed his 6hr Cecil’s daily task & lost 14 donuts! FOURTEEN!!!!! UGGGGGGH!!! At some point my spend donut confirm notification got turned off. Don’t know how, don’t know when it was turned off, but losing that mant donuts on the day I struggled to get 3 free by maxing out my XP really stings.

    • Oh, Otrivia, I feel your pain. Unfortunately, I don’t think the “confirm donut spend” prompt appears for speeding up tasks, only for purchasing premium items/characters. I say this only because I have made the same mistake a few times – fast finger action, and donuts gone before I knew what hit me.

Hopefully you’ll get some bonus donuts in a Mystery Box or during visits – that always makes me feel better. 😺

  25. I thought that, over time, the Cane Field gave you corn and the smokehouse gave you fertilizer. Too bad they don’t.

  26. Hey everyone,
I was just thinking. I leveled up to seven and now my corn and fertilizer is starting to add up. However, just as we will probably have enough materials for the farmers market, it will be time to start upgrading the building for phase two. Will it again be corn and fertilizer to upgrade? Plus there will be new buildings to craft. I guess this event is long for a reason. Thanx and have fun.

  27. It’s strange, I’ve levelled up to level 7, but my criminals tasks never unlocked. Is this something July EA can fix or am I missing something?

  28. I’ve followed your advice and everything is going fine. I’m at level 7 and have lots of characters to earn corn and fertiliser. Concentrating on getting the market first. It’s a long way off but like you say there’s plenty of time. Had to have Willys tractor so reorganised my school to fit it in.
Has anyone seen ears on their ears?

  29. Come to think of it, the Farmers Market shouldn’t just up our Consumeration, but it should also up our CORNsumeration 😀 Sorry couldn’t resist. Incidentally thought I should mention was in one of my neighbors towns last night, and in Shrubs they “printed” out BEWARE THE CORN. Had me cracking up for a few minutes when I saw that.

  30. One factor got missed. There are special tasks that show up as a red box on the left menu. They select the soonest ending character for the count, so if they assign an 8 hour task, but you have a character ending that task in an hour, then it only takes an hour to get your prize. For most categories, this is not a problem but for 16 hour gluttons, it means you go without prizes for most of the day (wait for character to be free and then the 16 hour task). So I am going to start keeping 3-4 gluttons staggered on this task for this reason.

    • Already the second time in 3 days I got hit with it.

    • Not missed, as it has nothing to do with crafting. They’re random tasks we’ve covered them in multiple places including

      Here

      http://tstoaddicts.com/2015/04/16/math-of-earning-act-one/

      And here

      • Thanks for the feedback and the link. Your site is the best and I use it exclusively. This episode is extremely complicated; I have no idea how 8 year-olds handle it. Ya’ll have done wonders weaving a path through it. While those 100 spades are not used for crafting, if I lose 1000 of them waiting for the glutton to finish, that is the equivalent of one donut. So I would argue that the comment should be included above in the task selection section so that readers can make the best possible choice for them.

      • Sraige,
Bunny and Alissa aren’t here to tell people how to play the game. Yes, they offer lots and lots of help but sometimes there are things that people have to work out for themselves.
Your point is one that people should be able to figure out once they’ve been hit by it once or twice, just like you did – and I did. If people have got to this stage without being hit by it, they were probably smarter than us and took steps to prevent it (e.g. by staggering), or they were extremely lucky.
