Showoff Reminder: Monsarno Act 1

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

This weekend we’ll be doing another edition of Springfield Showoff!  Where we want to see what you’ve done with your Springfield!

The Terwilliger Event hit our games last week and I figured now would be a great time to show us what you’ve done with your Monsarno stuff!  We’ll be putting up the Showoff post, featuring your designs on Saturday (4/25).  So show us what you’ve done with that Monsarno stuff!

So grab some screenshots of your town, or finish up those designs…just make sure it is there by about 8pm EDT Friday (4/24). Can’t wait to see what YOU have come up with.

Note: PLEASE try to limit your submissions to only 1-2 of your favorite screenshots.  We like to try and let everyone showoff their town but it becomes difficult when some of you are sending in 7-10 images.  Pick your favorite areas and send them in (or if you stitch photos together, that works too).  We’ll try our best to get EVERYONE in, but please understand that sometimes we miss a photo or two.  If we miss you one week, we’ll try really hard to make sure we get you in the next week.  You’re always welcome to showoff your town, at any time, on our Flickr page.  We know a lot of you have awesome towns that you want to show off, but please try to stick with this week’s theme.  Remember, this isn’t a contest.  There’s nothing to win.  It’s just a fun way to showoff your town and get some design inspiration from your fellow Addicts.  🙂

    Hi there! Apologies if this has been covered already, but I am curious. I have a task to craft the Springfield Farmers’ Market, which seems pretty high-end. There are several other things that I can craft already, but I’ve been saving up for the farmers’ market because that’s the task. Do we know if th craftable items are going to change once act 2 starts, or are they going to stay the same throughout? I’m not 100% sure I’ll have enough to craft the farmers’ market by the end of act 1, and am just trying to consider if I should spend all the stuff I’ve been saving before then or not. Advice please, of gurus of TSTO! :-). Thanks in advance!

    so i’m calling this the Mont Sarno Research Campus. development is largely incomplete, both on and off campus, but i’ve laid the groundwork for what i wanna do with the area. first and foremost, i wanted to model the campus after groening’s vision of it:

    while one could argue i was mailing it in by not designing an original campus of my own, i felt the challenge (which it was!) of recreating that circular path around the hq more than justified my laziness, if you wanna call it that, heh. with that in mind, the grassy space on the right is where the human resources building will go, and since the library is not pictured in the illustration, i’ll just place is somewhere on the campus grounds. bought apu’s apt just for this project because i thought it looked good as a campus dorm. will probably keep one of the zenith storefronts on the campus, but maybe not both…. again, just filling in space for now until we unlock stuff later in the event.

    the other idea i wanted to try to incorporate was letters on the hillside. this proved to be a bigger challenge than i expected, but felt satisfied with the way it looked using planters. **insert rant** so i wanted to buy the premium planters with the pink flowers, until i saw they were 10 donuts apiece.. for a 1×1 sized decoration. the two letters i wrote (MS) consist of 36 planters, making that a ridiculous total of 360 donuts! even with a boatload, i am passing like it’s your hit son! **end rant**

      OMG! How did you make that circular road??? I mean, I know you used concrete, but how did you make it appear circulate?!?

      You constantly amaze me, sir!

      (Oh, and you could have gone for the pink planters that go for $$ – the plant I them is different (not flowers), but they are 1×1 pink planters…)

        Use the lil decorations. The lil shrubs are kind of curved as it is. Then you just fill in here n there. 😉

        The pink planters for money you’re referring to ARE the ones i used for my M and S. As my little one (almost 2) is wont to day these days, “no way!” i am putting down 360 donuts for 36 1×1 planters.

        And yeah like bunny said, gotta use the various little shrubs and snapdragons to give it the curved look you want it to have. Let me tell you though, it took a sh*tload of guess-and-check work to FINALLY get it to the point where I was satisfied with it. I had done some curved stuff before (cletus’ farm driveway, city lofts driveway, and my bumper car course), but never a complete, as-close-as-i-could-get-to-perfect circle. there are a couple areas i will probably try to tighten up still, but for the most part I’m happy with the way it turned out. And I must admit it was fun doing it!

        If you are at all interested in adding curved paths to your town, i thoroughly recommend it, and suggest experimenting with how the snapdragons and all 5 different shrub plants fit together (though i didn’t use any of the $70 one).

    Kind of a plain and simple design, but the lemon tree adds a little something, if I do say so myself. I was in the middle of a major town remodeling when this hit so I’ll add some more detail when I have the time and inclination. 😀

        That’s weird… My image got deleted!

        Oh, jeez – I think I know what happened….I think I stupidly deleted it from DropBox by accident (sort of).

        I had typed a message twice and then my browser froze before I could submit it, but then, when it happened a third time, I took a screen capture of the text and posted it that way (and there was a typo in the text in the capture, which is what I was correcting).

        I don’t remember what my comment was anymore, but I’m pretty sure it was complementary…would need to check your link again to recreate my train of thought….if I have time before I leave tomorrow, I’ll try to remember to do that. Sorry for the confusion! 🙁

        Okay, I couldn’t resist taking another peek (even though I should be asleep)…the short version of my comment was that it was about how clever I thought it was that you put the greenhouse with Monsarno….seems like such an obvious pairing once I saw it! 🙂

        So what was the difference between your two links that made one show up as a link and the other as the picture itself? I’ve been dying to know why that happens here, with some DropBox links showing up as links and others as embedded images…

        Well of course you have to say something clever smarty pants! 😛

        Sandra, this was my first attempt at posting a dropbox link, so I was trying to figure out the same thing myself.

        The first link – I opened up the photo from the photos section, and then from there selected share photo > get link, and it just showed up as a link in the comments.

        The second one that shows the picture – on your dropbox home page, it shows the FILES section. If you highlight an image, a box that says “share” will pop up on the right and give you a different link that actually shows the photo in the comments. To be clear, I used the website, not the app so I hope that helps.

        Thanks, Pimp! (Autocorrect REALLY wants me to call you “pump” lol.)

        I’ve only been using the app, which has its own little quirk… For some reason, when I choose “Copy Link” and try to paste it directly into a post here, it won’t work…I have to first paste it into my Notes app, then select and copy it from there, and THEN paste it into a post here. So, between cropping, shrinking, retrieving, and pasting into a post here, I end up having to use 4 different apps every time I want to include a screen capture in one of my posts here! (And I haven’t even tried playing with “stitching” yet…)

      Nice! Definitely looks better with the training walls than the concrete walls. (To be fair, though, I got the idea for using training walls because someone else mentioned it first.)

    A neighbor had the buildings laid out like this and surrounded the area with roads. I liked it a lot and took it a step further by adding the statue, pavement, trees, walls, etc. I haven’t figured out what put around it yet except maybe more trees. I had thought about building a college campus with the adult ed building but the colors don’t go together. Can’t wait to see what other people have done and whether or not we get any other buildings in the next act.

    One item I’ve always had difficulty working into my town is the power plant. I’d love to see a show-off post to see what the brilliant folk out there have done with that. I’m sure there are lots of ingenious designs I could plagiarise!

    Sometimes Tappers forget that even the most simple design is worth admiration (ie minimal decoration, space, buildings, etc) 🙂
