Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!
Act 2 is upon us and it introduces a whole new swarm of Mutants to attack…Sideshow Bob Clones! (they do make an excellent soup stock!)
And it wouldn’t be a TSTO Event unless Professor Frink came up with some kind of invention to save the day…and he hasn’t let us down this time! Frink Co presents….the Herbicide Squirter!
The Herbicide Squirter is a FREE item you’ll unlock once you’ve completed The Soup Thickens Pt. 4 and started The Science of Cooking (questline walkthrough is here) that will help you clear Clone Bobs quicker! And each time you upgrade the Squirter you’ll increase your tap radius (how many Bob’s you can get in 1 tap) and some increase the payouts of crafting materials (Fertilizer, DNA and Corn) for each one you tap.
So let’s take a closer look at this squirter and what happens when you upgrade….
So first, let’s cover the basics…
How Do I Get The Herbicide Squirter?
As mentioned above, you’ll get it for FREE once you’ve started The Science of Cooking questline (which starts after The Soup Thickens Pt. 4).
How Do I Upgrade the Squirter?
Much like Monsarno…you just tap on the Herbicide Squirter and you’ll see the box popup asking if you want to upgrade…
Tapping the Upgrade button will take you to the Upgrade screen (just like it does in Monsarno), where you’ll then have the option to upgrade or pass for the moment:
You can also access this menu from the Event Hub…simply tap on the Sideshow Bob Trophy in the bottom right of Springfield (which will bring up the Hub):
And scroll through the event Icons on the left until you find the Herbicide one:
That will bring up the same Herbicide Upgrade Menu.
If you see the Hammer and Saw icon over the Herbicide Squirter, that means you have enough materials to upgrade…
What’s Required to Upgrade The Herbicide Squirter?
Corn and DNA…the same items you’ll need for crafting…
How Do I Get Corn and DNA?
From completing character tasks at Monsarno, finishing Cecil’s Daily Tasks, tapping on Mutant Bobs or unlocking the prizes via Gas Masks.
What Does Tapping On a Mutant Bob Pay Out?
It’ll pay out a combination of Gas Masks and ONE of the crafting items.
You will always be awarded 5 Gas Masks for every Bob you tap…but the amount of crafting items will vary depending on your level (we’ll get to that in a minute)
Ok so now that we’ve got the basics down, let’s take a look at what upgrading actually does…
Upgrading will increase your tap radius when you’re going after Mutant Bobs (so a bigger area will be hit the higher you go) and some levels will increase the payouts of Corn, DNA and Fertilizer you earn. Here’s the chart to break it down at each level (with cost):
At the time I wrote this the gas mask Payout was 5, however something happened yesterday that caused the payout top drop to 3. Chart had been corrected to 3, and we’re looking into why it dropped. ..

As you can see not every level increases the crafting rewards and once you reach Level 15 you’ve maxed out the crafting reward payout (any additional level upgraded to after 15 will only increase tap radius).
How Many Levels Are There?
No max. So if you’re upgrading to hit the max…you won’t.
When Should I Stop Upgrading?
That’s really up to you. You’re required by the questline to upgrade the Squirter at least to Level 3, after that it’s your call.
However, I would NOT upgrade past Level 15, as the increase for 16+ just isn’t worth it.
What’s More Important Upgrading Monsarno or Upgrading the Squirter?
After you’ve hit Level 3 (since it’s required), upgrading Monsarno. No question. (at least until you get to Level 19)
Should I Focus on Crafting or Upgrading the Squirter?
Again, that’s really up to you…you’ll have to look to see if the increase in crafting payouts are worth what’s spent to upgrade. And remember they don’t payout the same each time, sometimes you’ll get corn sometimes fertilizer and sometimes DNA…so it could take you a bit of time to recoup what you spent.
And that my friends concludes the details on the Herbicide Squirter!
What are your thoughts on the Squirter? Plans for upgrading? What Level are you currently on? What do you think about the Mutant Bob Clones? Sound off in the comments below, you know we love hearing from you!
Omg I just noticed my payout stopped increasing. My squirter is at level 9 but my payout has been 5 instead of the 7 for level 2 and so on.
I upgraded to level 9 of the Squirter. It never increased my payout. Fertilizer is at 13, which it was before the Squirter. All it does is give you a bigger blast radius to enable you to take out several Bob Clones at once. IMO, having that radius is not worth the fertilizer, corn, DNA, gas masks, etc., spent. DONT BOTHER!
so, i just upgraded the herbicide squirter to level 16. then read this. wish i hadnt wasted the dna etc. so if i choose not to upgrade further, must i have that annoying upgrade icon hovering over the squirter for god knows how long? – vursifyre1915
Yup the icon will hover over it because you can technically upgrade…i just wouldn’t.
Hi can you add a link to this article to the Terwilliger event page? Thanks!
Ummmm it is on the event page….

Honestly, I think Frink should go to jail for a big fat scam. I happen to have a minimum security prison. He could be happy there. As for giving me only three lousy gas masks… WHO NEEDS YOU, FRINK? I have moved the squirter to the far edge of Springfield behind the nuke factory where I don’t have to be annoyed by its pushy insistence. I’m squirter level 10 or 11 and the only thing I really want to squoosh is that thief Frink.
BTW, I haven’t a clue what you all mean by the word “craft.”
craft = the items you can create in Monsarno using fertilizer/corn/DNA
I’m 19 in the building and 13 in the sprayer. Emotionally don’t know if I can get sprayer to 15 (my goal). All of my hard earned rewards are gone. 🙁
I wanna craft something darnit.
Got bob today softens the blow a bit but I won’t use rake task because he can earn materials. Waiting a few weeks to do that is such punishment.
I don’t know what to do/prioritse!?
My squirter is on level 5 and Monsarno is on level 14.
Is it worth getting higher crafting payout or more/higher paying jobs in the long run?
Monsarno.
THIS:
“As you can see not every level increases the crafting rewards and once you reach Level 15 you’ve maxed out the crafting reward payout (any additional level upgraded to after 15 will only increase tap radius).”
This is the golden nugget of info, right here. 😉 Thanks for all of these amazingly detailed posts!!
This may be a bit of a long one…
I’m a premium player who started tapping in December.
I have about 110 playable characters.
I’d guess about 75 or so are Monsarno-able.
I have worked out, from all the upgrades I have already done, that I have, in 18.5 days, or 4.5 for DNA, earned the following craft/ upgrade currency:
Fertiliser: 27002, or 1459 daily.
Corn: 12452, or 673 daily.
Dna: 4207, or or 934 daily.
Now, I did early upgrade Monsarno’s first few levels, but this is more then made up for in the above numbers by the fact I accidentally crafted the cane field, so the above numbers, if anything, should perhaps be higher, having used 4500 fert and 2500 corn, or thereabouts.
If I, extremely modestly, assume that I earnthis same average, although it will be higher due to higher payouts now, I can assume I will earn another;
47417 fertiliser, if we can craft for remaining 32.5 days.
35062 fertiliser, if we can craft until end act 3 in 23.5 days
21872 corn for long term
15815 corn for short term
30355 DNA for long term
21949 DNA for short term
You could easily add 50% and more to these based on multipliers we know of through act two, never mind act three.
So If you are in a similar position to me upgrade wise and fretting about being able to craft in time… Don’t be.
You’ll probably manage one of everything by the end! Or three farmers markets if you really want them!
And to craft one of all non upgrade given items, you need “only”
39250 fertiliser
11700 corn
14400 dna
I appreciate there will be more act three…
