May the 4th Be With You Contest

This contest is now closed.  We’ll announce a winner shortly! Thank you everyone for participating.

Woo hoo! STAR WARS DAY!!!

chewie_4th

Whats-a happening my friends?  So as you can imagine, as the resident walking carpet of this site, I’m super stoked for today.  I’ve written about Star Wars Day before so decided today needed to be different. During my Christmas shopping last year tracking down some awesome Jabba the Hutt merchandise for my oldest ewok, I came across a rather sweet Simpsons action figure.  Looking at the beauty, I said to myself, “Self.  Wouldn’t it be cool to give this away to a reader in honor of 2015 being the year the new Star Wars movie is coming out?”  Well, I answered yes and promptly snatched up the figure as the geek store had it priced way cheaper than the one I already own.  Months later, the day has arrived where I finally get to give it away.

So here’s the deal.  In honor of the Star Wars premiere and May the 4th, I am giving away a Mark Hamill action figure from the 25 Greatest Guest Stars line of action figures made by NECA.

Mark Hamill Simpsons Figure

Woo hoo!  Free stuff!  What might make me do something like this?  Well, I’m actually not just a big fan of Star Wars, I’m also an uber fan of the readers who come to the site and really just like to give stuff away.  Also… a new Star Wars movie IS coming out in December and this action figure ties it to The Simpsons quite nicely.  If I had my druthers, I’d talk about Star Wars every day.  I mean c’mon, my blogger handle IS The Wookiee.

BONUS… this contest is easy.  All you have to do is write a comment that is Star Wars related.  Send a funny Star Wars picture in the comments, tell me why you love the epic space opera, share a favorite memory of the movies in your life, write a poem about Jar Jar.  That’s it.  It’s Star Wars Day and we should celebrate the movies. All you have to do is comment with something Wars related.  I’m so looking forward to all your creativity.

Remember photos can easily be shared via Flickr, etc.  Check out this post for help with that.  If you like other sites to share photos, by all means, please do.  Here’s one of my favorite pics I came across recently.

Han & Chewie Blues Brothers

Stories could be as simple as this first time you saw one of the movies, your favorite scene, how much you love Chewbacca, etc.  If I was going to enter, I could write all about cosplaying at the Star Wars Celebration 2015.

Wookiee Endor

I mean, who gets the chance to turn their blog avatar into real life?

Wookiee PNGWookiee Avatar in real life

You have two days to submit a comment.  I’m sure all of our Imperial lovers out there would remind me that tomorrow is sometimes called Revenge of the Fifth (I think it’s just an excuse to extend the celebration another day lol), so I figure two days is enough time to submit an entry.  Once the contest closes…  we’ll run a randomizer to pick the winner and voila, someone will receive Mark Hamill in all his Simpsons action figure glory to do with as they wish ***.

I’ll apologize in advance but the contest is limited to our U.S. readers as the funds for this are coming out of my own part-time employed, full-time student satchel.  I have to keep the expense manageable and Jebus knows, international shipping can be a nightmare.

Here’s the other legal mumbo jumbo from the Blue-Haired Lawyer.

  1. Return of the Jedi was the second movie I saw in the theater. The first was Gandhi. So I like short folks who talk in exotic accents. 🙂

  2. Please give the prize to someone else. I just wanted to say that I don’t remember seeing A New Hope in the theater, but I did get the movie soundtrack on record. It came with a nice book of pictures and bits from the movie and I played that record so much. Sometimes I’ll close my eyes while watching the movie and those days of only having the soundtrack and book of pictures comes flooding back.

A few Star Wars memories to share –

My older sister worked at the theater where it was showing in 1977-1978 (it’s original theatrical run lasted about 18 months!), and she gave me one of the large blue buttons all theater employees got that said “May the Force be with you.” Despite parting ways over the years wit many of my Star Wars toys and comics, I still have that button. Theater employees were only given so many of them, and were expected to wear them every day, and weren’t supposed to sell them or give them away. On any given day she would get about 100 offers to buy the button for as much as $5.

When Empire Strikes Back came out, I saw it with my Dad, and the guy in front of us almost gave away the Vader/Luke father/son secret before the movie started.

My love of Star Wars led me to the Star Wars comics, which led me to other comics, and the books (especially Splinter of the Mind’s Eye) led me to other science fiction and fantasy novels. In the early 90’s I had a small apartment and way too much “stuff,” so sold all of my Star Wars action figures (including the mail-in stand for the first 12 figures), my X-Wing and TIE Fighter (with the boxes), and all of the comics for $200.

I once got in an argument with a much younger Star Wars fan who thought (mistakenly) that the opening credits of Star Wars had always had the subtitle of “Episode IV: A New Hope.” I saw the movie enough times that when that first showed up, i immediately noticed it. It didn’t appear until it was clear the movie was a success, and the films started literally wearing out from use. (Remember, it was still on reels of film, and showed multiple times per day, every day, for almost 18 months!) That is why, to this day, for me, the title of the 1977 movie is JUST “Star Wars.” No “Episode IV” or “A New Hope” for me, thanks.

May the 4th be with you!

  4. There are a lot of great memories from Star Wars. When I was growing up they rereleased the original trilogy and more importantly a lot of the toys. I collected all of them and played nonstop.

But my favorite thing about Star Wars has to be at my work. One of my coworkers wears a Star Wars tshirt every day of the week. I don’t care what mood you’re in, that will cheer you up right away.

  5. Oh the memories…

Star Wars: First movie I ever saw twice at the theater. First time I ever saw a movie being shown on multiple screens at the same theater, and was sold out for nearly every showing on every screen! Also, this was the first time I ever saw a movie stay in the same theater for several months!

Had numerous Star Wars toys, especially that Christmas. Favorite toy was light saber that lit up. Mom made bedroom curtains from Star Wars cloth purchased at a fabric store. She also painted large size Star Wars scenes on our bedroom walls using Tempera paint. They weren’t removed until about 10 years later.

Bought numerous sets of Star Wars cards. I knew then that, like baseball cards, eventually they would be collectible and valuable, so they were each looked at briefly, and then wrapped in paper to protect them for that future “someday” when they would be worth a lot. (Later, a roommate stole them along with other collectibles.)

That Halloween, my brother and I each dressed up as a Jawa. Mom made the costumes and they doubled as bathrobes after Halloween. They were a bit over-sized so we wouldn’t outgrown them too soon. Some doodads from Radio Shack made the glowing eyes. The neighborhood streets looked like the Star Wars movie set back-lot during breaks.

As mentioned above, Christmas was a Star Wars fest that year! Wish I had realized that ALL of those original Star Wars toys would someday be valuable.

The second and third movies were fun, but didn’t have quite the same magic that the first one had.

Fast forward to today — Star Wars is still favorite movie of all time (and it’s never referred to by it’s alternate name); I KNOW Han shot first; I have original VHS of the first movie (released in 80-something), plus a VHS of a later re-release, plus a 9-disc Blu Ray set (2011?) that has the first six movies plus three discs full of extras. (Also had some other copies of various other SW movies but not sure where they are now.) Anyway, I can see where the Republic changed history and tried to clean up Han’s image! Well, such things always happen after wars, but some things won’t be forgotten by those who were there 😉 And Han’s image never needed cleaning — we know what that bounty hunter had planned, so who cares if Han shot first, right?

(Addicts team: As with my other comments, if the randomizer picks me, please re-pick — I love the movie but I think others will appreciate this particular figure better).

  6. Mark Hamill guest starred on a recent episode of The Flash & they actually had him say “I am your father”. I bet they based the whole episode around that line & I thought it was awesome! 🙂

    Star Wars Dad Joke

How does Han Solo get around Endor? Ewoks.

    No? Here’s another…

Why do stormtroopers always buy iPhones? Because no one has the droids they’re looking for.

    I’ll see myself out.

  8. Several years back at Wizard World Philly, Peter Mayhew bumped into my friend and almost knocked him over. It’s the closest thing I’ve ever had to a wookiee sighting. 🙂

  9. Random Star Wars/Trek Comment: Captain Kirk says to Darth Vader: “I am your father”. Darth Vader kills Kirk then says to Luke: “I killed your grandfather”. I know that made no sense but I don’t care! May the fourth be with us!

May the 4th be with all of us! 🙂

Now even tho I would love to share all my loving memories with everyone I just thought I would share a loving family photo I came across recently with everyone of me and the wookiee and the rest of our family that we took very long ago 🙂

  12. Shortest Star Wars/Trek story ever:
A stormtrooper and a redshirt get into a fight. The stormtrooper shoots and misses, but the redshirt dies anyway.
    The end.

I was a little kid in the 80’s and I loved the ewoks! We used to rent the ewok adventure movies from the library all the time and I still have an awesome little Wicket action figure I got from the middle of a bar of soap. Now I’m on a Fanboys kick. It’s a great pseudo Star Wars sequel / prequel! May the 4th be with you!

    • I still love both the ewok flicks… many fond memories of them as a kiddo and happy I own them on DVD for my little Ewoks to enjoy.

  14. I was born in the early 80’s, and my first main memory of star wars, (besides the movies) was a cut out toy of an x-wing from a box of cereal my mom helped make. I loved that thing, as silly and basic it was I just loved the design of the x-wings. Also as a kid I remember a fellow friend’s dad had a huge display case of all the original star wars toys and we couldn’t play with them. It drove me nuts. I never understood why an adult would have such cool toys on display but the kids weren’t allowed near them. Now as a “grown up,” I totally understand. Lol. In the 90’s reboot, I collected and continued my love for star wars, among other geek/nerd culture. I’ve grown up on this. I too live, breath and will eat/poop star wars for as long as I can live. I’ve even read 31 of the novels so far! And that’s just scratching at the expanded universe. Amazingly so, how even the sith mantra has gotten me through some hard times in life. It blows my mind when someone tells me they haven’t watched any star wars! Even an ol English professor discussed how star wars is a saga that has all to offer to rival the classic literatures; good vs evil, action, deception, love story, and we could keep breaking it down further! What George Lucas created, I know he couldn’t fathom at the time but it has grown a new life on its own. And I am happy to share this with you all. May the force be with you, always.

P.s. wookie, I know we’re brothers from other mothers. You can see my personal email from me posting this. Send me a message, I’d love to chat sometime for real 🙂

P.p.s. I don’t t have fliker but here is something I found on fb while back and shared on Instagram. Because I had a rough weekend of my sinuses killing me cutting the yard. Its all to suiting. So click the link to see my pic lol https://instagram.com/p/2R2fATHwX8/

  15. I cannot think of a cool/interesting Star Wars story, so here is a joke:

Q: What do you call stormtroopers playing Monopoly?

    A: Game of Clones

    • Of course I’m the nerd that wants to point out the difference between stormtroopers and clone troopers but thanks for sharing the joke.

  16. Luke Skywalker was my first crush. I think I was around 3 or 4 when I first started saying I was going to marry him someday and for some reason I remember very vividly the disappointment of the day I realized I couldn’t…

  17. I went to see Return of the Jedi on opening morning with one of my friends…and the next night to the same theater with the boy I liked. And never told him I had already seen it. (I reeeeeeally liked him!)

  18. Saw the first star wars movie when I was in high school. 🙁 feeling old.

  19. AnarchyReigns

Han shot first. He ALWAYS shot first.

  20. I can’t even tell you how many times I have watched the first three movies, but certainly enough that I can recite the dialogue with all of them! I was born in 1981, so I have known Star Wars my entire life. I won’t lie, when I saw the new clip of Han and Chewie back on the Millenium Falcon, I got a little misty-eyed! 😂

  21. Mrfootball70

Ok huge fan of Star Wars since day one – and also a huge fan of the “Star” franchise as well!! Not going to be goaded into which franchise is better or worse but luv them pretty equally!
The orginal A New Hope was the 1st and only movie I went back for a repeat viewing – and umpteen years later saw the “enhanced” version at the movies as well, please no hate comments on that either!!
And since the interwebs are abuzz with Star Wars bits and bobbles today – I found this trés cool pic of Luke’s best lil buddy’s given some steam treatment I thought I’d share!!!

  22. Knock knock.
    Who’s there?
    Ewok.
    Ewok who?
Ewoked the door! Let me in.

Mat the 4th be with you!

  23. I want to make a coment yet be passed over for the prize, there are people whom would enjoy the prize far greater than myself. So here is my comment:
I’ve always wondered why the Millennial Falcon was named as such. I have not seen any falcons/nor traditional birds in the Star Wars Universe thus “falcon” must either be a random word to them or it means something else. (Thoughts?)

    • TSTO Addict

Not to be technical, but its actually the Millennium Falcon….

    • I think the lore is its named after a fast flying creature called the Bat Falcon. Millenium is a period of time in Galactic Basic also.

  24. I was only about 8 when Jedi came out and I was going to see it with some older cousins. My family went to some other movie beforehand and it had the previews for Jedi. Well I remember be freaked out by all the aliens (and Jabba) and the crazy light sounds and noise. I had never seen a movie like that before. So I chickened out. Oh the shame!

  25. Always love to watch Star Wars!! Also have been a fan of Mark Hamill ever since, total crush…ever see Corvette Summer? lol

  26. I was 10 when Star Wars: A New Hope came out. We got to go to town to see it. I remember being awed by the special effects. Nothing has matched that movie-going experience yet. It really was that special.

    • I wish I’d seen it. Apparently saw ROTJ at 3 but don’t remember it. If seeing the re-releases was even half that good… I’m sure your experience was EPIC.

  27. velvet1974

    “Han Solo is hot!”

    “I know.”

  28. I am Canadian so I can’t win (there’s a joke there I’m sure…) but I just wanted to share that when I was younger I got two ferrets and named them Wookie and Wicket. Anyone who got the reference was immediately cool in my eyes.

  29. Star Wars got me into reading. I wanted to get my hands on everything Star Wars when I was younger. Which lead me to some of the original Marvel Star Wars comics. Which lead to other comics which lead to books. Just one more reason to love Star Wars.
