Where Did THAT Come From – Outdoor Opera Stage

In our silly lil game, we sometimes see things pop in that we have no clue as to their Origin. They seem familiar, but we just can’t pinpoint from where. So that is why we decided to make a fun lil reminder out of it. To let you know just Where Did THAT Come From?

This post I will be going over the Outdoor Opera Stage which was introduced into our games with the Terwilliger Event as a bonus for completing the Act II questline. Ph no… opera.  We know it doesn’t end until the fat lady sings… literally.  But what does it have opera have to do with our silly lil event? People actually like opera let alone understand foreign languages? Let’s take a look at the TV Series to find out.

“The Homer of Seville” (S19:E2)

When Homer crashes a funeral and sprains his back serving as a polar bear, I mean pallbearer, his usual annoyed grunt becomes operatic. (Man I love writing sentences as silly as that.)  In fairness, when Homer lays flat on his back and his stomach lodges perfectly behind his diaphragm, he sings well. Homer’s new amazing voice lands him a gig as an opera singer. But where to sing operatically in Springfield? The Springfield Opera House of course.

Springfield Opera House

Ok… this obviously isn’t our new outdoor opera stage but the stage inside the opera house is similar (ish) to our new item.

Springfield Opera House Stage

Also sort of resembles the opera stage from “Bart the Genius” (S1:E2)

Springfield Opera House Stage 2

Ok… maybe I’m stretching for this one… I recognize that most stages have red curtains and these are both indoor opera houses. There was an outdoor opera stage in “The Italian Bob” (S17:E8).

Simpsons Opera at the Colliseum

Well, it was the Roman Colliseum but it does connect to Sideshow Bob and may explain the Romanesque architectural features of the TSTO stage. We know Robert Terwilleger loves himself some opera.

Sideshow Bob Opera

Since this WDTCF seems more like a discussion about opera in The Simpsons than an origin piece for our new item, here’s a bonus for you.  The Opera Academy located right next to the Chazz Busby Ballet Academy from “Smoke on the Daughter” (S19:E15).  Sure it has nothing to do with the stage but it’s a funny gag.

Opera Academy Chazz Busby Ballet Academy Simpsons

So that’s about it my friends.  This new beauty could be a completely original item or it could be inspired by opera stages in the Best. Show. Ever. or it could be both. Sound off with your thoughts and stay classy like usual.

TTFN… Wookiee out!

  1. Why can’t I upgrade the outdoor opera it has the tool symbol but when I press it dosent upgrade

  2. Is there a reason we can’t store the Outdoor Opera Stage? I’m not a “hoarder” like the game likes to call me but I need to store it and it won’t let me. Bummer.

  3. Im struggling to get DrRobert. What am i doing wrong? Am levrling up every opportunity.

    • Leveling up won’t help you get Dr. Robert. The rate for masks is fixed. You won’t get more for leveling up…so stop leveling up. You’ll just end up wasting valuable corn and DNA.

You just have to login frequently and tap mutant veggies. Also leave and tap the Mutant Seedlings as well as visit your neighbors, and complete the daily tasks. Still just under a week left…lots of time.

  4. I always play with my volume off, so I missed it for a few days, but now I can’t stop tapping the opera house to hear Krusty sing!! That was just about the best moment in that episode, and it keeps cracking me up. 🙂 Glad I accidentally had my volume on this morning and discovered it!!

Outdoor Opera Stage – got it two days ago with Sideshow Bob (now its patiently waiting to craft something) …. 😉

  7. Strapper1963

“We are out of Rice Crispies…”

    Hilarious!!

  8. I’m having trouble placing “We’re Out of Rice Krispy!” … Assuming that is Krusty. Out of all the sounds and songs, why, why that?

    • The Italian Bob…S17, E8. It’s what sets Sideshow Bob off.

      • tinynicewolf

And that episode, in turn, is a reference to a TV commercial from the 1960s. There were three in total, all for Rice Krispies, each borrowing from a different opera. You can find the Pagliacci one that the show was referencing here: http://www.weirduniverse.net/blog/comments/no_more_rice_krispies/

So the game borrowed from the TV show which borrowed from a commercial which borrowed from Leoncavallo’s opera. I don’t know where Leoncavallo got it from. 🙂

      • I’ve only seen the episode once (original air date) thank you, at least that makes sense than.

      • Oh, tinynicewolf, great comment! I’m so glad we’re neighbors! I’ll keep an eye out for when you’re active and send some jelly blobs your way. 😀

  9. Think this one of the best things they’ve put into the game for a while. Because I work for an opera company (carpenter not singer) I’m going to try to do something big with this.

  10. Well finally got the opera house and sideshow bob. Does Krusty have a task at opera house? since you hear his voice when you tap on it.

  11. Is there some kind of episode reference for when Krusty sings something about Rice Crispies when you tap the Outdoor Opera Stage? I can’t really understand what he is saying.

  12. Daniel Myhre

Whixh episode is the tap sound from (Krusty singing we’re out of Rice Krispies)

  13. Im loving this event as I’ve always loved sideshow bob’s character and I’m so pleased he’s now part of my town permanently.

    However. .
Am I the only one wishing there’d be something also to go in krustyland? He’s such a big part of the krusty show a sideshow bob themed ride would have been amazing 🙂

    • Sometimes I think they all forgot about krustyland. No task nothing. I had hoped that princes lady had random task there but nothing.

  14. How/When does this become available in game play? I haven’t seen it or Bob?

  15. Ordinarily Bob

When tapped, it plays a vocal line, sounds like Krusty singing about the “Rice Krispies” – Any idea about what he is in fact saying/where that’s from/about?

  16. I usually store everything from an event like this into one area and then mold them into my springfield after the event is over. I think the stage has lots of potential and will fit well somewhere. I have 15 million in the bank and will purchase the last few sections of land I have held off on. (I like to keep 10 million just in cast a big ticket item comes along like the Sit and Rotate) I am starting to feel better about this event as I level things up. My last level is today and then let the chips fall where they may…

  17. I must say I’m disappointed with the look of this – it’s small and weirdly shaped. I can’t figure out where to put it either! It doesn’t seem to work with any of my existing buildings.

  18. I think the stage looks weird. Really floaty and not in perspective to other buildings.
Here’s my first attempt to make it look better:

  19. I’ve been to engrossed in having Sideshow Bob perpetually make 1-hour fertilizer, that I have not done any other non-mandatory tasks (so far). Does he (or anyone else) use the opera stage with an actual animation? Or does the building present the same way with every activity associated with it (i.e. the curtain lifts to an empty stage… and nothing else)?

    • Nope they use it…like the outdoor open stage. His whole family will use it.

      • Will Gino get a task to use it? I have all the Terwilligers available now except Dr. Robert, and the only two I see can use it are Francesca and bob. (And I’m guessing after the event bobs brother will be able to have tasks too.)

  20. Strait into storage after this event. EA should have used the opera house
