Springfield USA in Hollywood… Wookiee Style

Hello hello…

So way back about a month ago, I shared with all of you info about the opening of Springfield at Universal Studios Hollywood.  My beautiful mother and sister took some photos as I was otherwise engaged in the East Coast but as promised, I literally got off the plane in LAX and went straight to USH to see the amazingness for myself.  Of course, since then, real life, work and TSTO events got in the way of sharing what i saw with y’all, but in another case of better late than never, I’m finally writing about it.  Without further ado, here’s a bunch of pictures with some thoughts from me. the-simpsons-springfieldSo first up, any good visit to a theme park should include grabbing a map.  While I know USH very well (it’s really not terribly big), I couldn’t help grabbing one of these guides.  Check out the awesomeness for yourself.Springfield 1

So rad to see all the Springfield stuff on the map.  You can read all about the different items below the pic of the area.Springfield 2

At my first glimpse of everything finished, I was literally jumping for joy.  My family let me off my leash to go take a zillion photos.  Before I show them all though, I have to point out the little teaser USH threw right before it.  The pointy arch of sorts is the entrance to the next exciting opening in Summer 2016.

That’s right Potterheads… they built just enough of Hogsmeade to get all of you salivating.  Construction is coming along nicely.  But enough of that Wart fandom.. on to the real goodness.  I could drown you with words, but decided photos are just as good without too much blabbing from yours truly.

So many people with blacked out faces lol.  But really… how cool is all this?

Springfield 14

Nothing quite like a selfie in front of Homer’s place of work… but enough from me, there’s more images…

The details are all so cool.  So far, we;ve traveled from one end to the next but I had to go back and see more little things.  The Android’s Dungeon may just be a facade to block tables for eating but even the door shows it’s closed for Bi-Mon-Sci-Fi-Con.

Springfield 19

This picnic area also hides the Welcome sign.  It can be seen from the street but is awkward to get to if the tables are packed.  Fun little trivia, the windows of the Dungeon are one-way glass so people watching can be fun from the inside.

Springfield 20

Tons and tons of stuff to see.  I laughed when my lady pointed out that only in Springfield could something like this taco truck exist.  As she’s new to playing TSTO, I loved telling her that this truck was in her Krustyland future if she kept tapping.

Springfield 21

The truck is tucked into the Duff Brewery area.  I loved the view of Springfield from here.

Springfield 22 Springfield 23

So much awesome.  At the Power Plant, there’s a button you can push to try and make the reactor overload.  If you’re lucky, it all goes haywire and smoke comes out of the cooling towers.  I was super stoked that this happened the first time I pushed it.

Springfield 24

I’ve shown the games by the Simpsons rides in previous posts, but this one is by far my favorite.  Thar she throws!

Springfield 25

So much!  Wookiee in overdrive!  On to the DMV.

Springfield DMV

The DMV is used as a place to take pictures with your favorite characters.  They also chill outside the Kwik-E-Mart too.  I tried to tap Sideshow Bob to get him out of Springfield but he wouldn’t budge.  Seems he didn’t know who I was lol.  Could this have been foreshadowing of his arrival in TSTO?

I knew some of you might wonder about food menus and pricing so I took some photos of all of it for you.  Suffice to say it’s theme park food and priced accordingly.  A bonus though is everything I’ve had so far was amay-za-zing.  Im definitely trying the chicken and waffle sandwich next time I visit.  (NOTE: The image gets bigger if you click it.)

Springfield Menus

The restaurants are all super cool.  Just take a look at Cletus’ Chicken Shack.

Cletus' Chicken Shack

Lard Lad’s had a collosal line all day but the good news is they sell their giant donuts everywhere.  The big pink is always made but each day there is a special donut also sold.  The special during my visit was the red velvet donut which was a taste sensation for my family.  Seeing as there are lots of places in the L.A. to get a sprinkled pastry, I really found this little bit of info I found in the KEM to be super cool.

Lard Lad Donut

The inside of Moe’s is different than the one in Florida allowing more people.  I won’t lie and say I didn’t enjoy a Duff or two or three or… well, you get the idea. As much as I enjoyed Duff, Duff Light was actually my favorite.  You can get a plastic glass as a souveneir when you buy one.  Inside Moe’s, they have a special glass just for the bar.

Moe's

Poor Barney, no beer in his glass.  No surprise that this fuzzball was a Casanova on the love tester.  It only took two tries for the honor lol.  Next up is some shots of Krusty Burger.  I had to see how the burger fared against my memories of Florida.

Krusty Burger

Sooooooooooo good.  Mmmmmmmmmm… clogger burger.  I asked my sister if she had eaten upstairs when she went with my mudder but found they actually hadn’t.  Upstairs is a ton of seating for Cletus’ and KB.  Additionally, they have a whole room which is a shrine to all things Krusty.  We HAD to clog our arteries while sitting there.

Krusty Burger Upstairs

So awesome to enjoy my first Duff and a burger surrounded by all things Krusty. While the fams finished their burgers and Buzz cola, I wandered around for more pictures.  Woo should I find in the Cletus section of seating but everyone’s favorite web-slinging pig.  Had to take yet another selfie.

Spiderpig

SPIDERPIG!!!!!!  Could the day get better?  Well duh.  You could also take the tram and get a righteous shot of Bruce the Shark.

JAWS

As night fell in Universal City, California, I took more shots just to show y’all how it lights up.  Periodically, the Power Plant overheats and the lights flicker too.

The photo gods were smiling on me during my visit and I managed to get a great shot of Homer’s work station inside the window of the plant.  When the whole thing is going haywire, all the buttons go crazy.

Universal Homer's Work Station

My day was winding down and jet lag was setting in but this Wookiee wasn’t done. I don’t care if management closed the club, it’s always time to disco disco for me.

Springfield 33

Only one way to end the night and that’s with a photo with Milly.  This bench was so crowded all day, it took the evening chill and park closure to finally allow me the chance to sit down.

Our Mom think we’re cool and yes if you were wondering, I did use this trip as an excuse to buy the Homer hoodie.  I’ve been eyeing it for over a year and finally treated myself.

So that’s my day enjoying Springfield at USH.  Apologies that it took so long but I had to go through all my photos and figure out exactly how I wanted to show it all off.  Hopefully you enjoyed the synopsis and all the pics.  If there’s something I didn’t mention you have questions about, feel free to comment below.  I can definitely say all this is totally worth a visit if you have the means.  Until next time, stay classy and keep on tapping in the free world.

TTFN… Wookiee out!

  4. Thanks for sharing, wookie, these are great!

I love how you can read Krusty’s famous “hey hey” above you in the reflection of the glass in the center picture of the Krusty award room – nice shot! 🙂

  5. This looks awesome! Thanks for sharing your photos so we could live vicariously through you!

  6. “The only decor missing from USH’s Springfield were some more plants and a porcelain deer ” (inside joke for those who’ve watched Matt & Trey’s 1st paid film project called “Universal And You”) 😉

  7. Man, I wish I could go. How long will that park be there before they change it up? So many things in those menus I want to consume! Lol

  8. Wow! Sooooo glad you got to enjoy all that goodness! Thank you so much for sharing it with us! Whoo-hoo!

  9. Thanks Wookiee, I don’t suppose I’ll ever go so it’a great that you let me get to see a glimpse. Thanks to your mum and sis too.
Now, I just need to work out how to get a sampler tray to the UK with a bite or two of everything from every menu!

  10. Thanks! They would never do this in Singapore Universal Studio as this show culture is not really here.

  11. Thanks for sharing. It was still under construction when I was there. Can’t wait to go back.

  12. Thanks so much for posting your incredibly fantastic Simpsons pics, Wookie!! You definitely convinced me to visit USH in the next few weeks. I’d post more but Homer just hollered @ me, so it’s time to go. Thanks again!

Oohh, now I want to go on my next day off! Universal Studios here in CA isn’t too far from me and I haven’t been there in forever. I’ve also never been to the one in Florida, so I have nothing to compare our version to. Your pictures are way cool and make me want to see it all up close and personal. Thank you for sharing with us TSTO and TSTOAddicts fans!! I’m wondering what souvenir goodies they have waiting for me?!

  14. To get a picture of Milhouse and Me, that might be a reason to go. As for your reference for pictures to figure out….. well, I recently spent a week in Arizona and I took over 1,400 pictures and to get them into a cohesive Shutterfly book has been quite an endevour that makes me envious of what you have accomplished for this website. Good Job. Well Done.

  15. Sandra Shill

Loved the way Spider Pig was just hanging there LOL!

Do the lights on the Aztec have the same animation to them as inn the game?

Looks like some pretty neat stuff there. 🙂 I must say, though, that it looked like there were a LOT of people there. Also, those food prices are pretty horrific ($3.49 for one of the non-giant donuts?!), but there did seem to be some pretty tasty-sounding stuff there!

Glad you got a chance to check it all out and thanks for sharing it all with us!

  16. I’m going to the Springfield in Universal Studios Orlando next month, and I gotta say, I’m extremely jealous. From the looks of it, LA’s Springfield has way more buildings (Aztec, DMV, Power Plant, and a few others). On the bright side, Orlando does serve Krusty Burgers and Duff Beer.

    • We were just there in February. Sitting in Moe’s, having a Duff (Flaming Moe for the little one) and eating a Krusty Burger is just as leg kickingly cool as you imagine it would be. The Simpson’s ride is worth every minute of the wait (they even thoughtfully provide screens showing classic scenes from Simpson’s episodes to pass the time while waiting) Have a great time!

  17. Thanks for sharing, Wookiee! I loved all the pics and felt like I was right there with you! Did any of you try a Squishee? If I am ever lucky enough to get to go, I am afraid I would want to move in! Do you think Lisa would mind a roommate? 😄

  18. Someone stole my burrito™

Neat! Thanks for sharing. It’s great to see so many people eating at Krusty Burger and other restaurants. The food actually looks delicious. That doughnut looks so good, too.

  19. Crusty Krusty

Coolest giant food court I’ve ever seen.
That chicken waffle sandwich looks deelish.

  20. COOL! Do you like this or the FL one better? I live in FL and I never been to the FL one or the Hollywood one. But I MIGHT go to the FL one this summer!

  21. Wookiee thanks for sharing your visit with us. It was well worth the wait. Now I just need too save my little pink sprinkles so I to can visit USH.

  22. Wow im so jelly, looks like a lot of fun….giant Springfield id love to go one day. That is definitely on my to do list.😊
