Where Did THAT Come From – Gas and Grub & Five Corners

In our silly lil game, we sometimes see things pop in that we have no clue as to their Origin. They seem familiar, but we just can’t pinpoint from where. So that is why we decided to make a fun lil reminder out of it. To let you know just Where Did THAT Come From?

For this origin post, we’ll be taking a look at the Gas and Grub & Five Corners. They both come from the same episode and while I debated separating them into two different readings, they just go hand in hand too closely to do that to you. Both items were introduced into our games with the Terwilliger Event, one as a craftable item in Act II and the other for 70 donuts. So why are they in our games? What do they have to do with the Terwilligers? Let’s take a look at the TV Series to find out for a WDTCF two-fer.

“The Bob Next Door” (S21:E22)

So unsurprisingly, we find ourselves in yet another Sideshow Bob episode for these new items. The Simpsons family has gotten a new neighbor and Bart suspects it is Sideshow Bob in disguise. Of course anyone who has seen a certain movie with Cage and Travolta knows this is a plausible idea but would Bob really go so far as to get a new face to finally murder Bart? Well, Springfield did release all low level prisoners but surely that doesn’t include Bob. The new neighbor has fancy furniture, drives a hybrid and has exotic fish… he can’t be a bad guy. He just happens to sound just like Robert Terwilleger. Frasier on Cheers and Frasier on Frasier sound like Bob too lol.

Walt Warren Simpsons

Walt Warren’s just a nice, non-musical enjoying neighbor who’s moved into the brown house next door. Meanwhile, Sideshow Bob actually does escape prison. Uh oh. Walt takes Bart to a baseball game and Bob shows up at the Simpsons home. Only problem is Bart was right all along and the premise of Face/Off was true. SSB’s secret Bart death room tells the Simpsons family and the REAL Walt where SSB is taking Bart… the Five Corners.

Five Corners Simpsons

Our next scene shows Bob stopped at the Gas and Grub, last gas before five corners. Bob has stopped for some grub and is romance by the waitress who accidentally removes his face. Poor lonely lady… all the guys are either gay or have no face lol. The Simpsons are hot in pursuit and head to Mexico to find Bart. Walt is smarter than Homer and heads to the real location.

Gas and Grub Simpsons

Five corners, the only geographical location where five states meet. If Bob kills Bart there, it will be un-prosecutable. Bob will stand in one state, fire the gun in the next, the bullet will pass through the third hitting Bart in the fourth where he’ll fall dead in the fifth. No single act is against the law and the sum total will be the greatest murder since (SPOILER ALERT) Snape killed Dumbledore.

Five Corners Simpsons 2

Suffice to say Bart foils SSB’s plan and although Bob tries to flee jurisdictional incarceration, he’s surrounded by police officers with Texan, Northwestern and East coast accents and another who resembles the California Highway Patrol… you really have to love Springfield geography.

Five Corners Simpsons 3

So that’s the origin for our new items as they have to do with SSB. Of course, several addicts pointed out I failed to mention Five Corners in “Itchy & Scratchy Land” (S6:E4).  Our favorite family visits it on the way to the Violentest Place on Earth.

Five Corners Simpsons TSTO

Lisa: “Aww… haven’t we stood in 5 different states long enough?!”
Homer: “No.”

Special thanks to everyone for keeping me on my toes and I do agree the new dec looks like the classic but know it was included for the SSB-ness of it.  So, a new building and strange geographical murder location. Me thinks a good set-up for these includes a state park set-up. I think it’s hilarious that my town know has imaginary state lines in it.  What do you think of our new Terwileger items? Like the tribute to Four Corners Monument that exists in reality? Wish our family had a joint task there? Ever see that Travolta/Cage movie? Craft the Gas and Grub? Splurge on Five Corners? Sound off below and stay classy.

  1. Gas and Grub was fun to craft (we need more land EA, running out of space for new Buildings / Decor)

I didn’t bother with the 5 Corners (State line) as I didn’t think it was worth the Donuts – but hey kudos to you if you did 😉

More Sideshow Bob in jokes (yay)

I’m passing on the 5 corners but crafted the Gas and Grub. I love old vintage gas stations but was kinda disappointed that it doesn’t have any sound. Here’s hoping that they add some like they did with the bartcave. But I’m not holding my breath.

  3. Does anyone else have a little twinkling patch of land? Literally just 1 or 2 little twinkling stars twinkle and vanish but always in the same spot constantly ? Its weird ha im going to email a screenshot to you guys to check it out.

  4. …I hope I am being sooper tic tac tactics here but just made enough for the gas n grub however …waiting till act three to craft as it may give me a 100 bonus in the new currency?! ; )

  5. “Haven’t we stood in 5 different states long enough?!”

    “No.”

  6. This “which episode the 5 Corners appears in thing” sounds a lot like a conversation the college nerds would have.

  7. I saw face/off…. On the history channel. That was the day I knew: the history channel doesn’t even care about history.

  8. The version of the 5 corners in Tapped Out is actually the version from the Itchy and Scratchy Land episode. Probably should’ve thrown that in there, as that is where it was originally shown. Sad to see s21 referenced as the first showing of 5 corners…

  9. As much as I like the idea of 5 corners (and love the episode), it takes a lot for a freemium guy like me to spend donuts on something. And knowing that 5 Corners is supposed to be a good distance outside of Springfield means that I don’t need to buy it for my town, especially with how large it is and how much space it takes up. If there was a joint task for SSB and Bart, then I might consider it. Or better yet, if I could place it in Krustyland. As it stands, I’m okay to save my sprinklies for something else.

You know I’ll be getting at least one gas and guzzle though. =)

  10. correction the 5 corners decoration made an earlier appearance in the itchy and scratchy land episode.
