Where Did THAT Come From – Captain Bob

In our silly lil game, we sometimes see things pop in that we have no clue as to their Origin. They seem familiar, but we just can’t pinpoint from where. So that is why we decided to make a fun lil reminder out of it. To let you know just Where Did THAT Come From?

For this origin post, we’ll be taking a look at Captain Sideshow Bob.  Offered for 100 donuts once you’ve earned the Outdoor Opera Stage, tappers finally get the chance to have a REAL playable Sideshow Bob in their games AND a costume if they so choose.  Obviously, the entire Terwilleger Event revolves around this nefarious villain but why is a fancy-dressed SSB suddenly offered in our games? Let’s take a look at the Best. Show. Ever. to find out.

“Cape Feare” (S5:E2)

Of all the items that showed up with Act II, this one probably has me the most excited. Ever since the event started I’ve periodically hummed or sang “I am the very model of a modern major general” and this new skin is the reason why. It’s hard to think of Sideshow Bob without remembering the awesome little scene involving Captain Bob from the Classic Era of The Simpsons. It’s basically the epitome of Bob.  Well, right behind anything involving rakes.

The ending of this episode involves Bob cornering Bart on a houseboat. Things look dire for Bartholomew J. Crocodiles on one avenue of escape and freshwater electric eels on the other. Bob has tied up his family and is ready to off him with a machete. Springfield’s 15 miles away… any last requests? Bart asks Sideshow Bob to sing the entire score of the H.M.S. Pinafore. SSB decides to send Bart to heaven before he sends him to hell.

BONUS: The score of the H.M.S. Pinafore or The Lass That Loved a Sailor is a comic opera in two acts, with music by Arthur Sullivan and a libretto by W. S. Gilbert. Arthur Sullivan went on to write other famous operas including The Pirates of Penzance of which the song stuck in my head is the most famous song. Anywho… Bob sings the entire score complete with costumes… one of them being Captain Bob for the finale.

Unfortunately for SSB, the time wasted performing leads to the houseboat beaching right by a brothel the Springfield cops were frequenting and Bob is foiled again. This is a really great scene highlighting Robert Terwilleger’s love for theater and the arts and I for one am happy to have a reminder of it in my town even if it cost me some precious sprinklies. What do you think of the skin? Happy it came into the game? Do you love the episode it came from as much as moi? Enjoy any of the work of Arthur Sullivan just like Bob? I certainly hope this event is going swimmingly for you. Sound off with your thoughts and wit, stay classy and of course…

TTFN… Wookiee out!

  1. The awesomest episode that gave him his signature theme from the Cape Fear movie. Also on my ring tone! 😀

  2. Has to be up there in the top 10 episodes of all time.

  3. This is way off topic but I am a freemium player and only have 123 donuts. I am deciding between the school bus, Springfield YMCA and the rocket car. Or should I just keep saving? What do you guys think?

    • As those are all in the game to stay, I would wait and see if anything else comes along.

    • School bus is a great buy for Fremium players.
(Just like the TV series, stick with the classics and you can’t go wrong. )

  4. A perfect post for Victoria Day! Happy Victoria Day fellow Canadians! I scooped up the skin the second it was available to me because Cape Fear is hands down on my favourite Sideshow Bob episode and is in my top 5 episodes of the Simpsons (since I can’t pick one favourite Simpsons episode).

  5. One of my favorite episodes ever! I REALLY wish they had made the Captain Bob skin a personal prize (earned with notes, or whatever) instead of a premium item (or at least made it a less-expensive premium item…100 donuts for a skin is just too pricey!).

Does he have a visible task with the houseboat? That would be really cool!

  6. That episode is my all time best. show. ever. I love the references to not only the original film but also the remake! Just wish I could afford the donuts it would make my day to have this outfit! …looks on jealously at those wonderful neighbours that do lol : D

    Defo x

  7. Much better because “He is an englishmaaaaaaaaaan!” Plus I don’t think I’d be sane much longer if I kept hearing the “Meet your Raker” audible queue repeatedly.
