Where Did THAT Come From – Furniture Shop (aka Shöp)

Welcome to the Lifestyles of the Springfield Rich & Famous… errr… well, to a site writing about a new rich people expansion in TSTO. In our silly lil game, we sometimes see things pop in that we have no clue as to their Origin. They seem familiar, but we just can’t pinpoint from where. So that is why we decided to make a fun lil reminder out of it. To let you know just Where did THAT Come From?

So the Springfield Heights expansion brought us lots of new items with confounding leveling up of buildings, real estate values and tap-tap-tappery. Of course, it also brought lots of new stuff to find in the Best. Show. Ever. I’m sure by now we’ve all spent lots of precious time tapping away at the various tasked buildings of Springfield Heights. Of the six buildings earning Springfield Heights currency, the Furniture Shop is the first and easiest building to earn with. It also resembles a certain Swedish furniture conglomerate but where and when does it appear in the show? Let’s find out!

So… for some reason, the designers at EA decided to name this the Furniture Shop instead of just SHØP which confounds me. The dialogue references the real store from the show and even the menu shows the correct wording but the design in our towns doesn’t. My only guess is some sort of corporate issue disallowed a true representation since there is a store that ripped off IKEA named STØR.

Anywho… we first see the inspiration for this building in “Lisa the Beauty Queen” (S4:E4) when Channel 6 News covers the Grand Opening of the Danish superchain SHØP.

Of course our new building looks nothing like that one. 7 seasons later, the furniture store has upgraded it’s look and SHØP appears right at the beginning of “Eight Misbehavin’” (S11:E7).

Our favorite family is shopping there and admiring the green tables, bean bag chairs, a mascot name Allen Wrench, hamper lids and clever pencil holders named Kronk and Pöbli. Homer especially likes the forks in the cafeteria made of LEGOs.

So we got a store that may or may not sell lamps that do not look like lamps. It’s certainly the right color. What do you think of it friends? Wish it looked more like the building in the show? At least we got the building very easily and it does look cool IMHO. Sound off with your thoughts and stay classy friends.

TTFN… Wookiee out!

  1. It is also in one of the couch gags. It is instructions to making a couch and it is seen (drawn in pencil) in the ned they steel neds.

  2. Honestly for me the building in the game is so beautifully designed that I’m ok with it not matching the game in this case.

  3. “Help, I need tungsten to live. TUNGSTEN!”

One of my favorite jokes because, although it’s obvious that he’s just messing with the kid, there’s no way a human could fit in that suit. O_o

  4. I just saw this episode! Allen Wrench is so creepy

I believe that when someone was examining the game files, they found an image of the actual SHOP store. Legal reasons make the most sense to me, there’s not much else to make them not use it.

  6. I’m just glad they didn’t make Allen Wrench an NPC, I had to box a bunch of others and really could live without most of them – so Thanks EA for not making it a character 🙂

  7. I think this was redesigned at the last minute because they had a building that looked like the second version before SH became public. The new one is much nicer, though I wish they kept the sign.

BTW, if you’re looking for the Coffee Shop (and that’s a difficult one), its from the episode where Marge lets her hair go gray, when she’s talking to Patty & Selma while they shake all the smoke dust from theirs. The theater is still a huge mystery to me.

  8. its funny cause there is a picture in the files that resembles the Eight Misbehavin one

    • Thanks for posting that image!

I like the new design, but my biggest issue is the dumb sign on top. Having it on the side of the building, like most buildings have and how the original is, makes more sense, especially design and “advertising” sense. How well do the Springfieldians read the sign from down there?

  9. Am i the only one that had lost interest in Springfield Heights ever since they took away the option to store buildings?i don’t want 30+ monstrous buildings all over my Springfield just so I can get the final two prizes. Real estate is ironically too valuable in this game to be cluttering it up with generic buildings. I stopped at Lake Springfield and dont really plan on spending any more time on it especially with the monorail event going on as well.

    • Really bums me out. I’m hoping it’s just a temporary glinch.

      • It’s not a glitch, it’s probably a temporary “feature” to prevent other glitches (extra buildings, I have a few… But they are in storage right now… No space!)

Is a long slog and I got the cess pool now. But high priority? No. Not at all. Haven’t even placed the pool. No space!

    • Somewhat like you said. I haven’t gotten that far but I plan to worry about getting the lake and not really trying for the rest. I’ve stopped during this event but I will probably continue after, especially because the storing issue will hopefully be fixed by then.

    • The option to store buildings will come back, ….and when it does, I’ll store the lot….I’ve unlocked the land, not bothered about the prizes

      🙂

      • Do you guys know that you get 150% xp bonus when you have those buildings out? It’s nice getting those bonus donuts every day.

    • Nope, strong dislike from me as well. Almost worse than KrustyLand.

      • It is worse… that you just had to follow the questline and earn tickets however you want, here the prizes are from multiple buildings and currency is so hard to earn…
At least the monorail event currency is not as hard to earn.

      • Honestly, it was just bad execution, the idea was ok, but yeah it’s not staying true to it’s original premise, expansions should be like the original casual game, events don’t have to.
Like two new characters is really cool, but without the questlines and cool buildings, just multiples and grinding for REV, it’s hard to enjoy it.
That’s just my opinion though, I don’t know how other people feel.

    • I just turned the Springfield heights land into one ritzy neighborhood with all my larger houses and burns manor as the focal point. The other buildings I’ve scattered throughout Springfield and used some as additions to the hospital and such. Also I made a car dealership out of one of the business centers, a parking garage, and all the cars I’ve collected. So I do like having the buildings as options for my Springfield, just eager for the ability to store them again.

    • You poor guys. I am at over 1.27 billion, another neighbour is just behind me at 1.26 billion and another two are on our heels. Glad I took the time to polish the event off so I could move on before this event. The neighbours are the full gamut from zero to a billion with a fairly even spread. It was more designed for people on summer holidays (All of France goes on holiday in August.) and students. Not very good for people who have to work. In any case, I am ready for the next SH expansion. I have plenty of room in my Springfield, so the tall buildings block part of my house farm. SH itself is only for decoration, Nothing that generates income is placed there. When I figure out which condo can be dumped on, I will move it out to the Springfield house farm cover. One day, I will finish the near corner of SH as some sort of park. The only character that goes there is Artie. So SH is just ignored. But I agree that Paris was not worth all that work. EA could have at least made her premium since the building generates no income. Half a billion is a better cut off point as that is the last property that generates income. I do like the XP bonus and stopped storing my buildings when I learned about it. Since I have plenty of land and no interest in getting frozen out by placing too many decorations, big buildings work for me.
