Should I Spend Donuts On the Spruce Caboose?

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

Here were are  a few weeks in since the Monorail arrived in Springfield. Act 2 is now in full effect and with a few new Premium Items.  But what’s a TSTO Event these days without the return of items from TSTO past?!  Recently we saw the limited-time addition of the Spruce Caboose to our stores.   Now I know you may be trying to decide if this is worth YOUR donuts, but don’t sweat it!  We’re here to tell you what’s worth the donuts and what you might want to hold off on.

Wondering if you should add the Spruce Caboose? Well before you hit that confirm button let’s break down the pros and cons of adding this restaurant choo-choo to your game!
sprucecaboose

Decoration: Spruce Caboose
Donut Price:
85 Donuts
Earns:
$300, 30xp/12hrs
Conform-O-Meter Impact: Vanity +600
Size: 10×10

The Spruce Caboose Leaves Stores on September 3rd…

Pros:
-Returning item from TSTO Past (Christmas 2014) that if you missed you can now pickup
-Earns a decent amount of income
-One way to get a “train” in your Springfield

Cons:
-No character interaction
-No questline associated with it (there was one with it initially when it was released at Christmas)
-Was previously free
-Pricey for what it is/does

Final Thought:
Premium Take:
Personally, this is a pass for me (even though I already own it from Christmas).  It’s just not worth the 85 donuts for what it is/does.  The ONLY way I could see a premium player buying this is if you’re a new player (ie didn’t play in 2014) and missed this at Christmas and you’re a completest OR if you’re crazy about trains.  Otherwise stay away from this one and save your donuts for something better.

Freemium Take:
Pass.  A complete freemium pass.  Don’t waste your hard earned donuts on this one…

Of course in the end it’s your decision, we can only tell you what we would/wouldn’t do, and personally (if I didn’t already own it (for free)) this is something I would pass on. However, this IS a limited-time item.  So if you’re thinking about getting it make sure you make your final decision before it leaves our games (September 3rd)

What are your thoughts on the Spruce Caboose?  Did you make the purchase?  Is it something you already own from Christmas 2014?  Where have you placed it in your Springfield?  (mine’s down by the water with a few other restaurants and hotels)  Sound off in the comments below, you know we love hearing from you!

  1. I feel bad for Newbs, its not fair to offer the Freemium Spruce Caboose for Donuts (let the Newbs get a chance to earn it during Xmas!). Sad truth, no Animation or Character Interaction (just a brief one time Quest with Power Plant Employees) not worth wasting Donuts on!

  2. I lost my Spruce Caboose that I got during the 2014 Christmas event. I decided to nuke my town last night and while scrolling through my inventory I couldn’t find it. I took out all of my items and it still isn’t there. Is there anything I could do or do I have to contact EA?

    • You’ll have to contact EA…

    • Did you look through the main inventory, not any of the categories but the on that comes up when you tap on inventory because I had pulled out all the buildings and then looking at the screenshots I had taken before I nuked my town I remembered the spruce caboose, which is only in main inventory and is also not grouped with buildings because though it earns money its considered a decoration so it’ll be towards the end

  3. Boardwalk benches as railroad ties. Brilliant!!! I love trains! I collect American flyer trains as well as Lionel. Hence “flyertrainkrzy ” name lol. I’m sooo gonna borrow your idea of you don’t mind!!! Ty!!! 😋

  4. I like the Spruce Caboose but after 8 months I still haven’t found a home for it. Once I have enough track to put the Tetanus Terminal in its planned spot I think it’ll be easier to find a good position for the Spruce Caboose.

  5. I respectfully disagree with those that say this an eyesore. There are fun ways to incorporate it into your Springfield. I used boardwalk benches and snap dragons to create an overgrown train track leading up to the Spruce Caboose. I wanted to create the impression that the train had long since derailed, and rather than cleaning up the debris, the owners decided to salvage it as a restaurant (just ask the headless brakeman, who will now seat you). I think it’s a neat looking item with a real cool sound effect (train whistle). I tap on it every time I pass it. Plus it generates a pretty decent revenue stream. Is it worth 85 donuts? Tough call! But I think it’s worth considering.

    • Whoa… Your Spruce Caboose looks absolutely fantastic! Well-deserved props & kudos for your excellent design.

  6. Ive forgotten how we got it free at Christmas!?

All the events kind of mould into 1 back then. I’m enjoying the new ways they are doing these events these days, it gets you involved more in playing it.

  7. Contrary to popular opinion,I like the Spruce Caboose, was very disappointed in not being able to get it at Christmas although I am a very faithful player!!! So not only did I purchase it for my three towns,I look forward to “fitting “it into my Springfields!!!🚂🚂🚂

    • I do love the look of it and it fits well in my kid play zone I’ve made off n on. It’s more a benefit aspect it fails. But if you love it… by all means get it 😉

  8. Not sure if this has been addressed at all (I could have missed it) but there are a whole bunch of buildings that can be placed on the squid port and beach now and it’s very exciting because there’s so much more creative freedom now

  9. I was playing and active during Xmas 2014, and still didn’t find myself ending up with this. So certainly not interested for 85 donuts… though I did consider the possibilities of merging this with the upcoming Railyard in Act 3 for minute or two.

  10. Matthew Szekeresh

With the monorail event going on I was excited to move this item so that the monorail would go right passed it. Having a new train overlook the wreckage seemed just like something the people of Springfield would do.

  11. Theres nothing like installind old good mods…

  12. Most of the time I think it’s great when a previously free item is available for donuts. It seems unfair for people who have been playing longer to complain about this, yes you worked through an event to get something but that did mean you got it free. If people are willing to spend hard earned donuts or even hard earned real cash, converted into donuts, that’s the price they’re paying.

We haven’t all been playing from the start. Not everyone knew about the game or could access it if they did. I got my first smartphone October ’14 but it’s not a good one for apps/games. I got my kindle fire for Christmas ’14 & it took me ages to realise I now had something I could play games on, then of course I had to stumble upon this particular game.

I love the game so much, I managed to go from starting to level 56 from Valentine’s, no cheating. It took me a long time to discover this site & tapball was the first event I had neighbours. There are characters & buildings I missed out on which I’d love to have & would be willing to buy with donuts & some neighbours of mine who are newer players may wish they hadn’t missed something I did get, I wouldn’t resent them having the opportunity if they’re willing to pay with donuts.

As for this item, it’s a pass. At half the price I still would have passed, considering it has no bonus at all. It’ll take something really special for me to splash out sprinklies now, I’m saving them up for my first tapped out Halloween!

  13. I picked it up @ Christmas [for free] and forgot about it.
Yet, after this event, I think I’ll find the Spruce Caboose and arrange in a corner with the other “waste management” items, and maybe the Tire Fire, too!

  14. I put it in my country setting near Cletus’s farm last Xmas and surrounded it with trees. In that context, it looks all right. Considering Tetanus Station, it should blend right in, as that is also ugly.
But properties without a character are a losing proposition compared to bonuses. This property earns 600 dollars per day. If the average property earns 400 dollars a day (number taken off the top off my head and not based on any statistics) and you have 150 properties (probably somewhere above level 40), then a 1% bonus will also give you 600 dollars per day, but instead of costing 85 donuts, a 1% bonus should cost you about 20 donuts (half a police car or four flags, for example).

  15. Why do they feel the need to bring everything back for donuts? If it’s like, the big, final prize of an event (not sure if this was, I only played half this event) then ya bring it back for donuts, but for smaller event prizes and episode tie-ins they should just make them cost in game cash. There’s sooo many things I wish they’d bring back, and usually when they do it’s for a huge amount of donuts. Obviously the premium players keep the game going so maybe I shouldn’t complain too much lol.

  16. Yeah. I got this free from Christmas 2014.

  17. My answer was NO already because I don’t like the look, but came to read the official word from Mrs. Laundry pile 🙂

  18. Don’t think it is worth the doghnuts.

  19. It’s frickin ugly and doesn’t go well with anything. I had it next to my garbage are and realized it looked worse than the garbage stuff and put it in my inventory. UGLY!

  20. I don’t like when donut costing items don’t do what most donut costing items do… (lol) … which is earning a bonus percentage for money and xp. And, the no jobs thing. Sounds like this one should just cost regular money and not donuts.

    • I think you’re right, and this house is a train house. There really is no useful purpose for this item. Size wise it doesn’t match (EA is good at designing via siloed committees) anything else. I pretty much feel that EA needs to look at their current stable of designers/workers and see what is being purchased and what is not. As one of their pseudo whales (I don’t buy everything but I do buy what I want regardless of the price) some of this stuff is pretty unspectacular.
