Where Did THAT Come From – Shotgun Pete’s & Plato’s Republic Casino

Hey hey friends! In our silly lil game, we sometimes see things pop in that we have no clue as to their Origin. They seem familiar, but we just can’t pinpoint from where. So that is why we decided to make a fun lil reminder out of it. To let you know just Where did THAT Come From?

You may wonder why I included a Level 57 and Level 58 building together but it’ll make sense in a bit. When Shotgun Pete’s first arrived in 57, many tappers, myself included, hoped the casino it was located next to would appear too. Well, Level 58 didn’t disappoint and Plato’s was offered as a premium. But what episode prompted this discussion in the first place? When and where did they appear in the Best. Show. Ever.? Let’s find out, shall we?

Let’s start off chronologically. Plato’s Republic Casino appeared first in “Old Money” (S2:E17). Grampa Simpson falls in love with one of the ladies in the Retirement Castle after his meds get mixed up with hers. They have a blast together but Abe misses her birthday when his family insists on taking him out to a Discount Lion Safari. When Abe gets home, sadly, Bea Simmons wasn’t long for the series and passed away. She leaves her fortune to Grampa though, $106,000. Grampa spends his money on Napoleon’s fez, mud wrestling, paragliding and Dizneeland but none of it brings Bea back. He decides to give it away to people instead. I love Otto’s bus customization idea. Any Rat Fink fans out there?

None of the ideas float Grampa’s boat so he decides to help all the poor souls who need a helping hand. He doesn’t have enough money so he goes on the senior’s gambling junket. Guess where they go? Yup… Plato’s Republic Casino. Keno, craps and the loosest slots in town just across whatever state line Springfield is next to.

All our new goodies… casino, columns, fountains, the beautiful sign.  Good stuff!

Of course, the next season brought us Shotgun Pete’s in “I Married Marge” (S3:E12). I love Shotgun Pete’s. A ways back I actually mentioned that it’d be cool to have it in the game but I’ve lost track of how many times that’s happened. Suffice to say I was stoked at this building’s inclusion in TSTO. As a bonus, it comes from this classic flashback episode of The Simpsons. Alissa may love the future episodes, but I’m always partial to the flashbacks.

Marge thinks she might be pregnant again prompting Homer to relate the story of Bart’s birth. Just Homer and Marge going to see The Empire Strikes Back is enough to make me love this flashback. Homer wondering if apes will ever be our masters is great and I love Homey ruining the ending. Best of all, it includes one of my favorite Homer lines I must admit I’ve used a few times on my own special lady.

“Marge, you’re as pretty as Princess Leia and as smart as Yoda.”

Homer and Marge got married in a “quaint, little chapel just across the state line.” Shotgun Pete’s.

You can get the 10th wedding free if you use their punch card, walk down the aisle to synth muzac and get your vows done in a jiffy in front of God and the Casino. But which casino? They don’t say in this episode but the official does state his power is vested by the State Gaming Commission and the happy couple gets 10 dollars in chips.

Woo hoo! Sentimental flashbacks showing how much Homer loves Marge and vice versa. Speaking of episodes with scenes from the past not sullied as clip shows, “A Milhouse Divided” (S8:E6) features Shotgun Pete’s also. It’s the flashback where we learn the name of the casino it’s connected to.

I think the animators wanted to answer the mystery from Season 3 and show Plato’s one more time. If you’re a glutton for flashbacks like me, you could always head off to “Homer’s Paternity Coot” (S17:E10) for one last glimpse of both. The casino isn’t pink but the hedges and columns are unmistakeable.

So there you friends. The origins of both Plato’s Republic Casino and Shotgun Pete’s. What do you think of them? Happy that EA listened after adding the first freemium only to bring yet a premium option? Did you place both of them next to eachother? Got any cool designs to share. Sound off and keep it classy.

TTFN… Wookiee out!

  1. Shotgun Pete is a lol fest
The Casino I can do without (I see enough of them here in Las Vegas) 😉

  2. Awww I didn’t realize Plato’s was connected in a way to Pete’s! Now I might have to buy Plato’s too… But I’m with you Wookiee, the flashback episodes are some of my favourites and I often find myself singing Close to You. Really excited with these new buildings, planning to add Pete’s to my “back of the woods”/farming area that I have yet to build.

  3. What are the chances we will see Diz-Nee-Land in our game?

Based on rumors that EA and Disney are partners of sorts… If I understand that right.

(Why do I really want to know? Because Diz-Nee-Land, is yet another place my favorite Simpson’s Workaholic works. I have been doing my research, there has been 7 game buildings so far that he has worked yet he has not shown up yet. Diz-Nee-Land, Googol-Plex, Enant “Broken Dreams Storage Lockers”, Dry Cleaners, Cryogenic Facility, and Springfield University are some of the other places (but not even close to All the places) that he works too. So Hoping one of these buildings or another will pop into our game next year (if not, unlikely sooner).

  4. I don’t remember clicking “Continue Reading —-> ” 😛

  5. Yes. I was wondering what to do with those enormous columns. These screencaps have done wonders for my Plato’s area. And there’s just enough space between the fountains for a chalk outline…

  6. Page break? 🙂

Have to agree, these are good buildings for the game. Need to save a bit to get Plato’s but it will be in my game soon I hope!

  7. The car would be a nice addition, but not for a premium!
