THOH Prize Guide: Act 1, Prize 5…Gate to Nowhere

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

Well here we are, in most Tappers favorite time of the year in Springfield….Halloween!  (although I prefer Christmas 😉 )  The leaves on the tress have changed colors, the water is murky and there’s a darkness that falls over our TSTO screens.  All of these effects fit in perfectly with this year’s theme….Nightmares.

This Event is broken up into 3 Acts, with each Act containing part of the story.  To help you move along with the event you’ll get several prizes per Act.  Each prize will either be something fun for Springfield or something to help you move along in the event.  For the first Act you’re tasked with collecting S’mores (ico_thoh2015_smores_md) to unlock each prize!

The fifth, and final, Act 1 prize awarded at 9,282 ico_thoh2015_smores_md (or +4,230ico_thoh2015_smores_md from unlocking the Model Donut) is the Gate to Nowhere, an event beneficial decoration for our Springfields!

So let’s take a closer look at this fifth prize and just what happens when you unlock it your Springfield…

Once you’ve collected 9,282 ico_thoh2015_smores_md  (or 4,230 more ico_thoh2015_smores_md from prize four) you’ll automatically be awarded the Gate to Nowhere and you’ll see this message popup:

Remember if you store it you’ll have to go into your inventory to retrieve it..

So what does it do?  Does it just sit there and look pretty?

The Gate to Nowhere is actually a beneficial item to get because it will spawn random nightmares for you!  Every 24hrs you’ll earn 24 random nightmares from the Gate to Nowhere (you’ll have to tap on it to clear it, so they won’t just appear out of nowhere).  These could be anything from snakes to bunnies etc…you won’t know what’s coming because they’re random!

Here’s what it looks like when it’s in action:

2015-10-09 18.53.44

And the random nightmares are represented by this icon:  ico_thoh2015_guide_tab .  That means random nightmares will spawn from that…so don’t think it means that ghosts will start appearing, because they won’t.  Your nightmares will still be Zombies, Snakes, Bunnies & Skeletons.

Here are some quick facts about the Gate to Nowhere:

And that’s it to this fifth and final Act 1 prize!

What’s Next?
Congratulations, if you’ve earned the Gate to Nowhere you’ve earned ALL of the Act 1 prizes!  Now it’s onto Act 2!  Act 2 won’t start until October 20th…so you may have some downtime until then.  However, make sure you’ve completed the Act 1 main questline so that when Act 2 hits you can move on.  The main Act 1 questline is the Call of the Campfire.  You’ll have to complete all 13 parts AND complete the 1 part questline that pops up after called The Unspeakable.

So that my friends is the full breakdown of the fifth and final THOH Act 1 prize!

What do you think of the Gate to Nowhere?  Thoughts on it spawning random nightmares?  Where have you placed it?  Thoughts on the event overall?  Ready for Act 2?  Sound off in the comments below, you know we love hearing from you!

  1. How do u get this item to light up

  2. Does this give cash after event or just decoration?

  3. So with the “bank” change, the gate only gives 20 random nightmares instead of 24. If that. Some days I am lucky to get 18 and have never obtained 20. (Even after clearing EVERYTHING else. Oh well. :/)

  4. I missed out on this final prize and was hoping it would be available to craft in act 2 but sadly not. Do we know if it will be available again during the event? Thanks!

  5. Is the gate to nowhere worth spending 100 donuts? I was short of my s’more goal.

  6. Sounds good for the event, and even though it’ll be useless after the event it goes very well with the rest of the halloween items for the future.

  7. The last prize is bs. I have logged on very frequently, got the 2nd last prize awhile ago but it seems there is little hope of getting the Gate to Nowhere (I will be close, but not quite enough by the time the buzzer goes.) I think this is a way they are trying to get me to buy premium characters… But it is more likely to get me to uninstall. I just don’t think the last prize is doable without spending money as I haven’t done anything wrong or that I would change.

    • At first I thought so too but I just unlocked the gate. I’m not on the highest level (56 I think, not sure), I have played regularly but not overly obsessed (well, I checked often but I didn’t time it or anything like that) and I have never spent money on the game. So I wouldn’t say that it’s impossible or even that hard. Actually that’s the first time I reached the final prize ever in a TSTO event.
To me it seems like everyone’s complaining that this event is too hard and that’s like a self-fulfilling prophecy because it kills the motivation to even log in and therefore makes the outcome actually lower than usual. I think that it just feels slower than other events thanks to the low rate. Also in my opinion the prizes in general are raher disappointing so far except for the pretty cool house with the staircases (sorry, forgot the name). However, I am pretty sure they are saving the best. 😉

      • It very much depends on level. I’m a recent joiner, grinder my way up to lvl.20
I have literally had an alarm going off every 4 hours (even while sleeping) so I can send the kids to the campfire, and I still didn’t make it in time to achieve the “Gate to Nowhere”

      • I am sorry to hear that after all this effort. I totally get that it depends a lot on the level. That’s why I mentioned it. It’s probably even easier when you are on a higher level than me, but certainly way harder when you’re even lower. I would guess that I am probably about as “priviledged” as a premium player on your level. I simply got more kids I suppose.
The part with the self-fulfilling prophecy was just concerning all the complaining players on a much higher level than me saying that you can’t reach the gate without spending donuts/money. Just wanted do decrease the publication bias here. 😉

I really hope you aren’t too frustrated. In the end it’s just a game and this one is definitely worth playing even if you can’t hord everything (yet). Happy tapping! 🙂

    • Exactly my feelings from this event so far.
With my play frequency I can clear the weekly Rail Yard thing to get 5 free donuts , was able to complete last few events in advance , but after finishing the questline for this current event I found it hard to keep up with the calendar to get the Gate (~700 smores per day). Sometimes I had like 10 nightmares in my town after 3 hours being out from the game no matter if campfire was level 2 or 10… Act 1 of Monorail event was also like this , couldnt make it to the final prize , but Acts 2 and 3 were not that hard with the same pace of playing this game.

  8. Will nightmares remain in act 2? Currently saving them to help neighbors in act 2, but will send them out now if they won’t be around. Thanks for all the work you do to keep us informed.

    • Formless terrors? From what I can tell, yes they’ll still be around. But no sense in saving them honestly. They don’t pay out prize currency, only crafting currency. So the payouts won’t change from Act 1 to Act 2…so sending them now or in Act 2 won’t make a difference.

  9. Since this is the last prize earned for this act, I thought it would be appropriate to ask this here. Since the next act starts within a day or so, should we spent the current currency or do you think it will carry over? I think I could buy more trees and stuff, but would rather keep it for new items if it carries over.

  10. I can’t believe I’m not going to get the third prize. I play every four hours, except when sleeping. I zoomed through the first four prizes, but fell behind on the last one, but can’t figure out why or how. Can you pretty please do a Math post for the next act? I feel like I must be missing something, we only get s’mores from tapping nightmares and making s’mores? I might be wrong, but it doesn’t look like I was getting any s’mores from neighbour actions. Sooo frustrating!

  11. noooooooooooooo, im going to miss out on this prize

  12. I need more friends to play with, can people add me?

  13. I’m pretty disappointed, as of right now I’m about 1600 s’mores short of the Gate to Nowhere. I got the donut model three days ago. There’s a pretty big gap between the final prize and the other prizes. I’m not a premium player, but this is will be the first “Act” style prize I’ve ever missed out on! And I log in six or seven times a day. Hope the other acts’ final prizes aren’t as difficult.

  14. I’m a little annoyed at myself that I forgot there would be a Halloween event for Tapped Out and that it would start at the beginning of October. I had been taking a break from the game after the Sideshow Bob/Monsarno event because that event was too stressful and time consuming and I still got nowhere fast. So had been gone a long time. But I always love Halloween, so thought I’d check out this year’s event.

So far I have been playing for less than 24hrs and have made amazing progress considering. I’m on campfire quest number 8 (stuck waiting for enough zombies to upgrade my campfire) and have completed all 5 of the daily tasks which show up for me, so netted the 20 doughnuts. Its such a shame that I didn’t remember sooner as this really feels like an event I could actually complete. I was getting increasingly frustrated by coming up short each part of each event since they started splitting them into “acts”. This time, I know I would have easily managed to get all the 5 prizes above. And the drop rate for the crafting items is great this time too, especially considering that there are currently only 2 prizes which I don’t already own from the previous couple of Halloween events. And I’ve already crafted the first of those today. Not far off the tower thing either.

So my only complaint is that I didn’t get sent some otherworldly message from M’nthster on 7th October to let me know I should check in on the game. LOL

  15. I’m still 1100 s’mores away from the gate and I dunno whether I’ll be able to get it even when I’m trying to log in every 2 hours (and meeting the Bart screen every time). Well, if it takes me nowhere then it means I still get there (nowhere)! ;p

  16. Very disappointed in this Halloween event. Previous ones were far better.

    • There’s still at least two-thirds of this event to go…you might want reserve judgement until the end….

  17. Any idea whether the number of s’mores one had accumulated so far will matter when going into Act 2? In other words, will the s’mores counter reset (or be rendered obsolete) or might one start out with a keg up on the prize track if one’s been accumulating s’mores since completing the Gate to Nowhere (since that doesn’t yield any bonuts this time around)?

I know you can’t give a definitive answer, since Act 2 hasn’t started yet, but I’d be happy to entertain any educated guesses based on prior experience…

  18. Have had so much trouble with this event I am ready to call it quits after 2 years of play. The latest quirk is my campfire constantly spawns less than the expected total. With all the kids plus the story teller, I should spawn 72 nightmares, but I am always 15 short, more if you count the nightmares that should spawn during the time I am not logged on. 🙁

  19. Once again im gonna miss out on the last prize of the act 1. Im pretty much missing every prize from the act 1 of any event.

    Grrrr

  20. I have a few questions. Please forgive me if they have been asked. I’ve been so busy with school and work. Should I spend donuts to get the gate to nowhere? Will it disappeare when act 2 gets here? Also how does the upgrade camfire work? Thanks

  21. Mister Ringmaster

After Act 1 do you think that the items needed for crafting are gonna change? Should I use all of them before it ends or save them for act 2 prizes?

  22. Is there any reward for crafting all craft items? I do not particularly want the dead tree but it is the only thing I have not crafted from the set. do unused things carry over to next week? thanks!

  23. If I take the gate to nowhere, how will I know when I’ve gotten there?

  24. It would be much more useful if this spawned smores, as nightmares and crafting currency are in abundance, and I’m still 800 from the donught lady. How do I get so many extra thousands of smores?
Also, can you see how long the Shopkeeper prizes are going for? Til the end of the event?
And one more thing. Recently, I’ve been getting quests for level characters when I’m still in the previous level. Freddy Quimby’s quest activated one level early, Fat Tony’s kid whosits auest opened a level early, now Marvin Monroe has activated in level 50. I have finished character quests in the same level as they start before, but they hav3nt started the quest to unlock the next character’s level until i reached thd next level.

    • I believe it’s the rest of the event.

Usually the quest for it triggers once you’ve unlocked the character/building from the previous level.

      • does that mean you need the gate to move on to act 2?

      • so that means its tough bananas if you missed a act 1 prize. im trying to get the model donut before tonight but IDK. I don’t care as much for the gate, I just don’t want to miss out on the donut lady… my problem was I wasn’t using the formless terrors at all, now I have like 300 of them and not enough smores.

        • It doesn’t look like it. From what I can tell, and most likely suspect, you’ll be able to purchase any Act 1 prizes you didn’t get for donuts once act 2 starts. So collect as many s’mores as you can, because the more you have the lower the required donut amount will be.

But remember Formless Terrors DO NOT pay out prize currency (ie s’mores) they only pay out crafting currency.

    • It sort of does spawn smores, as you get a smore from each nightmare, but by the time you have it you don’t need them any more – hopefully the extra will help with the next phase.
I do agree however that the smores have been very hard to come by this event – I’ve been tapping very regular and I’m only just going to scrape by. The fact you get no smores from neighbour visiting is quite painful.

  25. I’m in 2 minds whether or not to keep crafting the Halloween prizes or not or should I save up for act 2??? Any ideas….

  26. It seems like spawning random nightmares isn’t all that beneficial since nightmares are in abundance.. hopefully the crafting prizes will be better in the next 2 acts.

  27. No bonuts? Also. .. I’ve seen kids in their trick or treat outfits in some neighbour towns, milling around the campfire. Mine don’t do that. Can I make them do that?

  28. Are the crafting items going to change in act 2 ? Should I craft everything I can with what I have before 2nd act opens?
