Should I Spend Donuts on the Ancient Ruins?

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

It’s Halloween in Springfield!  Time to open the donut shop because there are new Halloween themed premium items in our stores!  Now I know you may be trying to decide if these are worth YOUR donuts, but don’t sweat it!  We’re here to tell you what’s worth the donuts and what you might want to hold off on.

Wondering if you should add the Ancient Ruins to your Halloween town?  Well before you hit that confirm button let’s break down the pros and cons of adding this ancient marvel to your Halloween decor!

Ancient_Ruins

Decoration: Ancient Ruins
Donut Price: 55 Donuts
Bonus %: 2.25% bonus on all cash and XP
Conform-O-Meter: Obedience +10
Size: 5×5
Unique: Yes, only 1 per Springfield

Leaves Stores on October 20th

Pros:
-Nice bonus % awarded (although Jet Engine Bike is still better)
-Unique looking decoration for Springfield

Cons:
-Will not help with the THOH Event (in other words does nothing for nightmare/s’more rates)
-No character interaction at all
-No questline at all
-Not animated.  Basically just sits there.

Final Thought:
Premium:
It’s not a bad buy for premium players. But it’s pretty lame in my opinion.  It doesn’t do anything…doesn’t even have a questline associated with it. Sure it has a nice look to it and a decent bonus % but there’s no “wow” factor that would make me say get this one.  And it’s not worth buying for the bonus % alone.

Freemium:
Pass on this one.  While it does offer a decent bonus %…it’s still a complete pass.  You’re better off with the Jet Engine Bike, for the bonus %.  And if you’re looking for Halloween decor…you’re better off with what you can craft.  Save your donuts on this one.

Of course in the end it’s your decision, we can only tell you what we would/wouldn’t do…and I can tell I’ll most likely pass on this one.   However, this IS a limited-time item.  So if you’re thinking about getting it make sure you make your final decision before it leaves our games on October 20th.

What are your thoughts on the Ancient Ruins?  Will you be spending the donuts to bring it to your Springfield (or did you already)? Where have you placed it?  Thoughts on Halloween so far? Sound off in the comments below, you know we love hearing from you!

  1. Hi. I have been noticing that a lot of my neighboreenos, (I have 100) have been hoarding their “formless terrors”. I mean, like hundreds at a time. I read the post where you stated ” there is no reason to hoard, there is not task or achievement for keeping them”. (para phrased) However, should I be saving some for the next act? Is this why they are doing it?

    • That or as they visit all they are seeing is Zero after Zero. I know I just did that today. I have now almost 100 of them due to when I go to drop them, I can’t. As my time is limited, I can’t always go back later either. So it may be a mix of they can’t when they have the chance too as the towns already are MAX at 10, or they just haven’t made their rounds yet and wait to give everyone at least one. Hard to say. 🙂

      • Ok. Yes, I too find it hard to off load to my neighbors at times. I just wonder when I see numbers like 300, 400 and even 500+, I think to myself that they might know something I don’t. FOMO!!! Augh!! Thank you, Bunny.

    • I for one look like I’m hoarding but I’m really not. I try to evenly spread my terrors but often people are full so I end up with extra after my neighbor visits so I figure I’ll just try again tomorrow. Also it doesn’t help that nightmares are so hard to find that for the first time since I’ve started playing I absolutely dread visiting neighbors so instead of trying to go every 24 hours, I only go when I get in the mood to just get it over with.

      • Yup, I’m the same. I had over 500 this morning, mainly because the neighbour visits take so long that I don’t have the time mid-week to drop of terrors too. I’ll try to ditch my stash over the weekend, but I won’t have time next weekend so will probably have amassed over 1000 by the time I next drop some off.

    • Neighbor visits take forever trying to find tap items, wait for towns to load etc. and so many times people have max amount and can’t drop. I visit every other or every third day now due to time constraints, and drop all I can in every town, from100 neighbors, and I have over 200 after my visits today. I will keep minimum of 100 for next phase otherwise I try to get rid of all, just can’t.

  2. I bought it for Squidport since I’m a Lovecraft fan. I don’t regret my purchase.

  3. I passed

  4. I went ahead and bought it. I like the way it looks with the gateway to nowhere and I think I can make a nice graveyard-themed area that includes this decoration.

  5. Was going to buy $50 of donuts for the Halloween event. Decided to buy $50 Duffman costume for MY Halloween event!

  6. Of course I’ll buy anything but I really love the design. Now I have about 3 design ideas might be hard to narrow it down.

  7. I bought it because it looks so cool if you place it in front of the gate to nowhere, and the bonus % is quite good 😊

  8. I passed on this one–was not really tempted, though I like the idea of making it the center of a dilapidated formal garden. However, I did spring for the wildly overpriced snake-emitting log…just because it was snake day and that is the kind of decoration I need for my Backyard Wildlife Habitat Springfield. It was completely unnecessary for the snake challenge, but I like the way it looks at my forest edge.

  9. As a freemium player, I don’t think I’ve ever spent donuts on a decoration. For me, the biggest bang for the buck is in characters, so that’s what I save my donuts on.
I also try to wait until Gil sales as much as possible. I’m still bummed that I missed Barney last Black Friday because I really don’t want to spend 250 on him.

    • Actually this is something worth doing the math every once in a while. In the beginning you get more SD when you buy houses and or characters. But if you have built up a decent stock of these already, 1% more bonus might give you more income than the next building. Otoh characters may be helpful with events. It’s not always obvious what is the best choice.

      • For me, it’s definitely the “fun factor” as well, and another character is more fun for me than a building or decoration that does nothing.

    • Agreed, although I did buy the tire fire as my first donut purchase – mainly because it’s not Springfield without a tire fire.

  10. I’m a Cthulhu fan and love this, but it is too small considering its for a world consuming, eldritch entity of the elder gods, etc etc, especially when I have a thumping big skull mountain for dr Colossus…

  11. I love the design of it, and the bonus is just enough to convince me to buy it! Going to make a nice display of it

  12. Last time I get something before reading these posts. I thought for sure the M’nthster would do SOMETHING when tapped, but nope, not a darn thing.
C’mon EA at least make him stand up er something.

  13. Any chance it will coincidence with questlines or characters in the next two Acts?

  14. I bought this and the maze. The maze is great IMO. You can use that decoration anywhere and has the questline. I was hoping for the same with the ruins but no. I did spruce it up with some 3D to make it pop more but I kind of regret this one a bit.

  15. I like this one, I think it looks good me and my husband both got it. It’s very unique decoration you prob won’t see ever again. I like the size too, although admittedly was surprised by it when I first saw it in another town. Smaller decorations are good too! I’m going to make it the centre piece of a garden in my town.

  16. One day I will remember to wait for the SIB post before spending donuts … one day 🙁

  17. CanI place it in the Squidport or in the water? I kinda want to make a “Chtulhu” themed church in the ocean.

  18. It’s useless, it does nothing at all and on top of that it’s really tiny. And you thought the Shinning Maze was small, this is smaller.

  19. Passed on this one since the moment it arrived. Made sure donuts were checked, then saw the size of the deco, too dang small for my liking.

Also, for neighbors of DearthNadir, I shall be spawning snakes in my town throughout the remainder of the day to assist those that did not get their 100 snakes done yet for the weekly prize.

On a final note, for those that may ask about this, I thought I didn’t get my 20 donuts also once I hit my 100 snakes. You have to hit the House of Evil once more after getting the 100, and then the popup with the donuts arrives.

  20. I’m still really disappointed that we can’t send the kids trick or treating! Even if it wasn’t the main part of the event, I was really looking forward to seeing them all in their costumes again. 🙁

    • Still a couple acts left, they may change it up when it gets closer to Halloween.

    • If your neighbors bought the nightmare pile, you can see most of their kids in costume spilling out of the campfire, not the same I know, but still something…

  21. I think it’s going in next to the Rigellian queen for an all-spooky corner of Halloween Town.

    Wait, what? Wrong show? Nevermind.

(Still think I’m going to get this as a Freemium…especially if I get 20 donuts today from the Evil Store)

  22. I just got it because I’ve gotten everything that has came out. It’s just my I have a few donuts to waste of the day. Maybe act to will make up for it.

  23. Having already 305 percent bonus, i’ll pass on this lame thing.
(I got a 110 percent bonus for free, thanks to those tenniscourts)

  24. I’m a big Lovecraft fan so I felt tempted to get this right when the event started… this “comic book version” of Cthulhu doesn’t convince me one bit, though. I mean, the plastic Cthulhu statue I have in my office is scarier…

  25. I got it because I like the look and a bonus is always welcome. I was al little disappointed that it didn’t help with the event though,..

  26. It kinda goes nice in front of the portal…so I got it 🙂

It’s my “does nothing” splurge for this event.

  27. Have it in storage. It does nothing is an understatement. I don’t even know why it was released. It doesn’t go with anything.

    • It ties to the gate. I put it in front of it and have a little summoning area now. I was expecting more out of it though. Wish I had waited for this post this time but it looked so cool.

  28. Was seriously thinking about it. But (for now anyway) it’s a pass. If it were a bit bigger, though, I probably would have gotten it. I like the detail on it, but it’s kinda small.

  29. I’m huge fan of Cthulhu’s mythos so I bought it when I first saw it.

    • Same. I was happy to find it matched the gate, too.

      • I’m tempted because I feel they’re going to add more to it in the next two acts and I’ll regret not having the whole look. I also like Charles Stross’es Laundry series and this reminds of it. I think I just talked myself into it- off to the store…

    • Same here! It doesn’t do anything, but I like how it looks with the other items and I’m fairly new to the game so the Obedience boost is a plus. A flying tentacled monster! Cool. You guys need to check out Peter Clines’ books “14” and “The Fold.” 🙂

  30. I bought it but it doesnt really fit in anywhere with stuff i already got… I placed it in my “graveyard” along with all the other halloween stuff from past years but still kinder stands out and not in a good way…
