Where Did THAT Come From – Official Halloween HQ

SIDE NOTE BUNNY: I am putting Alissa on bed rest for now, so hang in there with me as I attempt to navigate both sites along with the demanding hours of my new job. I will attempt to moderate comments as fast I can. Hang in there and we will get through this together. 🙂

Back to Fuzzball…. 😛

Hey hey screamereenos!

Woo hoo… HALLOWEEN IS UPON US! With a brand new event, comes a ton of new stuff and thankfully one of my jobs here is to tell you just where new items come from.  I know we all can’t watch the Best. Show. Ever. as often as some fuzzballs and even though items might seem familiar, a lot of things blur together and you just can’t pinpoint just where you saw it. That’s why we decided to make a fun lil feature for just this predicament. To let you know just Where did THAT Come From?

This WDTCF will go over the free building which came with the episode tie-in for Season 27, Episode 4: “Halloween of Horror”… the Official Halloween HQ.  But isn’t the origin of this item obvious?  Why would the fuzzball bother writing a post about it? Let’s check out the TV Series to find out.

First off, it never hurts to see pictures of items in the show but there’s actually a reaosn I decided to write a post about this item.  It’s because it’s actually one of the only items we received that I’d asked for from EA in my WAWW post… well sort of. In Treehouse of Horror XX (S21:E4), Frankenstein’s monster, Mummy, Dracula and Wolfman showed up in the intro (intro you say… that’s not a running trend is it?).  After Dolph, Kearney and Jimbo make fun of them for being lame-os, the Universal monsters decide they need to get costumes.  Only one place to do it too… the Halloween Headquarters!

Halloween Headquarters Universal Monsters Simpsons

When the episode tie-in dropped on us… I immediately recognized the building but wondered why they didn’t use this storefront.  Well, the answer is it’s not the same store.  Seems my excitement over predicting something was premature… sort of.  In the new canon Halloween episode, our favorite family makes “a skeleton run to the Halloween Pop-up Store” after finding all their skeleton decorations have melted together because Homer left them too close to the furnace.  They go to the Halloween Headquarters but are more enticed by the “Official” version right across the street.

Apu opened an “official” store and in true Springfield fashion, made sure it was right across the street from the competition.  Possibly a completely different store since its coloring is different and the previous store didn’t have the overhang and it no longer mentions Columbus Day but I’m gonna say it’s the same one because it makes me happy inside.

And that’s really it.  Our new store comes from an episode which sort of included an item I hoped EA would add to the game.  Sure it’s not the same but it’s close.  One of those not just good but good enough moments.  What do you think of the store?  Were you happy to add it to your towns?  Wish the Universal monsters had come to the game too?  Sound off in the comments and keep on classy tapping in your nightmare-filled towns.

  1. I must have missed something here because I’ve not seen this store featuring anywhere in this event. I would definitely have included it…

  2. I just got a chance to see Halloween of Horror and THOH XXVI. My thoughts on them and how they relate to the game follow.

Halloween of Horror was, actually, a pretty good episode. Only a few parts that might not have been done too well (though, I can’t remember specifically). I liked their allusion to the THOH episode and how this one wasn’t it. heh.

People were right about Krustyland. That would have been the nuts (can we say balls?)! That park was just so well done. The wandering “zombies” and surprise demon babies, and all of it, would have fit well into a TSTO event that takes place in Krustyland. I can imagine the game being a sort of hunt for the real zombies. The park would be filled with masked people and real zombies. Tap on a masked person and they’d unmask and run off into a building (like the FT do). Tap on a zombie and they’d blow up (just like now). M’nthster actually crawling through town. You’d have to tap him 10 times before he reaches the sunken temple. He’d act more like the FT (but not as quick) running through the park, occasionally stopping. That could all work just as well in Springfield, but at least give us a KL façade and let us put all the objects over there, including an NPC or two.

The mask idea comes from the second (third?) part where the pop-up goons wore them when chasing after Homer and Lisa. The concept of Holiday Homer seems to be from there, too. The THOH event seem to be, in actuality, a Halloween of Horror event….

Sadly, watching the episode, I got to see all of the adults’ costumes. No, not just Luann and Kirk. But the whole town. So many skins we could/should have had. (Wouldn’t you love to have 4 Rigellians roaming your town? haha!)

So, obviously, the adults partying at the houses (in the game) should have resulted in them getting costumes. Let’s say that after going there (with the characters that were allowed) we’d earn mini-liquor bottles (because let’s get realistic (and yes alcohol use is listed in the rating for this game)). With enough mini-liquor bottles the adults could earn/craft costumes. Once reaching the next act other adults would get to participate. They wouldn’t earn apples or whatever (just like now and unlike Act 2). It’d be like the b-story to the event’s a-story. 🙂 This story taking place in Springfield.

(Of course, I’m not totally into using Krustyland just because it is really hard to jump back and forth. Sometimes I get disconnected before it loads. They’d have to fix those kinds of issues first….and we know EA’s track record…)

THOH was…. Okay, part one was kinda disgusting. It got funnier with the reanimation. This could have been put into the game like so: SSB acts like the FT and runs around. You have to get him before he runs into a house and kills Bart again. lol. You can’t let Bart get killed more than 10 times. I dunno. heh.

Part two had our new pond (lake?). I saw some people saying they’d have liked more. The more being Homerzilla popping out of it. I think that the flames shooting out would have been nice to have as part of the animation of the lake (pond?). Of course, give us modern Homerzilla as a PC and a task at the pond (such as “Sleep at the bottom” or “Go on a Rampage” where he arises from it and swipes out toward the edges or whatever).

Part three… I must have zoned out on a little because I don’t remember much. Milhouse went mad with power, which was a bit funny.

My impression of the episode was that it was modern Simpsons. Funny or interesting enough, but some very obvious uses of cliches and tropes (which is to say the ones that I don’t like very much).

  3. So….now they should also issue the “unofficial” hallowe’en store so we can recreate that scene. On a side note, slight typo in the text. It’s reason, not reaosn 😀 But as I type this there is probably 20+ more commenting the same thing lol.

I’m so disappointed in this “Halloween” event. I feel as if we had no Halloween this year. The only reason I’m saying something negative is I’m hoping EA might see this and start adding content that players have requested. Sorry for complaining. Thank you.

  5. indeed. i wish they had the traditional four monsters with tasks as well, even if they are lame-o

  6. You put her on bedrest? Are you Nurse Bunny?

  7. A Krustyland “Halloween Horror Night” like the billboard shows could have been fun.

  8. Thanks for the Alissa update, Bunny! 🙂

  9. How is Alissa, is baby close?

  10. I hemmed and hawed if I should, but ok, I’m going to say it – ladies at or past their due dates, don’t normally go on bed rest… I sense an imminent announcement!!! 🙂

  11. “KrustyLand Halloween Horror Night?!” It would have been so cool if they could have done this in the game. Missed opportunity. I was hoping Krustyland would be used this Halloween. Maybe Christmas will bring us “Holiday in the Park” like they do here at my local Six Flags.

  12. Given the transitory nature of seasonal stores (at least in the real world) it seems to me that occasional skinning of the “Official Halloween Headquarters” building could allow it to eventually *become* the “Halloween Headquarters – formerly Columbus Day Headquarters”… logically, it just has to become the “Columbus Day Headquarters” first, at the appropriate time. Of course, there’s no real hard-and-fast rule that says a game has to follow logic… so they could also plausibly just skip the Columbus Day thing and give us the skin you really wanted next Halloween, anyway. 🙂

  13. Godspeed, Bunny! 😉
