Where Did THAT Come From – Festivus CBG

Just hear those sleigh bells ring-a-ling, jing jing jing-a-ling too… Yes Addicts it’s lovely weather for an origin together with you!

In our silly lil game, we sometimes see things pop in that we have no clue as to their Origin. They seem familiar, but we just can’t pinpoint from where. So that is why we decided to make a fun lil reminder out of it. To let you know just Where Did THAT Come From?

Woo hoo! Festivus for the rest of us!  It’s holiday time in TSTO and with the second Act of goodness arrived even more yuletide goodness for all of us.  So far I have really liked all the different stuff EA has come up with.  Snowmen, raccoons dressed as pandas, merrymakers, reindeer burgers, a whole new batch of stuff to make a mall, holiday facades… so cool.  I could probably gush and gush about everything but that’s not what I’m supposed to be doing… it’s time again for me to dip into my noggin of Simpsons info and write about specific stuff.  For this post I will be going over the fifth and final prize for Act II of the 2015 TSTO Holiday Event… Festivus CBG.  What the heck does this costume have to do with The Simpsons? Did Comic Book Guy ever dress up like this? Well, the answer is yes and anyone who has seen the Christmas Intros from Season 25 and 26 might recognize this goodness. The appearance of Festivus CBG was in “I Won’t Be Home for Christmas” (S26:E9).

The animators took the regular HD intro most are familiar with and did the whole thing up Holiday style.  Our favorite characters got elf ears. Otto enjoyed a candy cane in his own fashion. Lisa played a carol on her sax.  There’s so much more that is all really cool.  Anyone who has seen the intro should also remember the scene where Bart rides his skateboard past Moe’s and a bunch of other characters.  Well… in this intro… he snowboards past them all parodying various stuff (I love Rabbi Krustofski in the Chinese Food Restaurant).  It’s during this flyby that we see Comic Book Guy ready for Festivus.

Interestingly, he was ready for this holiday in the previous Christmas intro that they did for “White Christmas Blues” (S25:E8) but he didn’t look quite so dapper.  Instead of being worthy of Ebenezer Scrooge, he looked more like an elf himself (someone put his snark on a shelf lol).

I love these intros because I dig when the Simpsons animators try new things and completely decking out the intro animations we’ve all grown to love is no small feat. But what the heck is Festivus?  Here’s a synopsis I found online that didn’t have a URL starting with wiki.  The whole page is here.

“Happy Festivus” is the traditional greeting of Festivus, a holiday featured in “The Strike” episode of Seinfeld which first aired on December 18, 1997. Since then, many people have been inspired by this zany, offbeat Seinfeld holiday and now celebrate Festivus as any other holiday.

According to the Seinfeld model, Festivus is celebrated each year on December 23rd. However many people celebrate it other times in December and even at other times throughout the year.

The slogan of Festivus is “A Festivus for the rest of us!” The usual holiday tradition of a tree is manifested in an unadorned aluminum pole, which is in direct contrast to normal holiday materialism. Those attending Festivus may also participate in the “Airing of Grievances” which is an opportunity to tell others how they have disappointed you in the past year, followed by a Festivus dinner, and then completed by the “Feats of Strength” where the head of the household must be pinned. All of these traditions are based upon the events in the Seinfeld episode, Strangely enough, our Festivus traditions also have roots that pre-date Seinfeld, as it began in the household of Dan O’Keefe, a television writer who is credited for writing the Seinfeld episode.

And that’s your origin for Festivus CBG. A quick blip in an episode intro that now is a full-fledged skin in TSTO. Did you know the Seinfeld reference? What are your thoughts? Did you earn him yet? This might be one of those prizes I splurge donuts on if I don’t think I’m gonna earn him in time.  Sound off in the comments. I hope you’re all having a great time during the event.  I’m off to work telling bad holiday puns…

This post brought to you by animal crackers.  A great stocking stuffer teaching children all over the world that all animals taste the same…. delicious!  TTFN… Wookiee out!

  1. Does the Festivus CBG skin come with tasks and/or quest(s)? That would be worth some donuts…

  2. What’s wrong with wikis?

  3. Have you seen what’s popped up at TSTO? Another New Year’s dialogue with a New Year’s Ball! (Mine has already burnt, so… Oops, spoiled)

  4. If the pole is the symbol, I wonder if you have to be Polish to celebrate it?

Yadda yadda yadda, wish it was a premium payout skin.

  5. Thank goodness they went for Victorian Festivus CBG, and not the other one…

  6. Just in case anyone missed the joke, Rabbi Krustofski is enjoying a Jewish Christmas, which typically entails going to a movie, then out for Chinese food.

  7. His feats of strength task is hilarious 🙂

  8. Got him in my main town a couple days ago, just a few hundred away from having him in my secondary town. Not impressed with the questline so far, as it’s been mostly indoors. (I’ve paused it so he can recycle plastic, maybe it gets better.)

  9. Great report thanks but just how do you apply the skin it doesn’t appear in my game after I ….finally…. Got it this morning

🎊 Happy New Years Eve everyone!! Just got the free new years ball drop decoration in my town! 🎉

  11. Delicious animals in a small box. Must. Eat. Now! Grrrghrumpf….

Happy Festivus Wookiee and to addicts and experts, one an all. The Addicts’ team and my fellow commenters bring me welcome information every day. But Wookiee, you always make me smile. Sometimes out loud!

BTW, anyone else tap the New Years Eve ball drop pole? I am afraid I did so this morning, prematurely. My ball dropped and is now burning at the base. Any way to reset it? (TWIMC; I was VERY careful in wording this delicate description).

    • Close out of the game and come back or the even easier (like most problems) go to Krustyland and come back

I must confess I freaked out when storing it and taking it out of storage didn’t worked. All is well. 🙂
