Where Did THAT Come From – Patches & Poor Violet

Won’t someone think of the children?  Well I will.  I know this isn’t a The Kidz Aren’t Alright post but I figured I’d cover the kiddos in an origin post so you wouldn’t have to wait until a Sunday to read it.  In our silly lil game, we sometimes see things pop in that we have no clue as to their Origin. They seem familiar, but we just can’t pinpoint from where. So that is why we decided to make a fun lil reminder out of it. To let you know just Where Did THAT Come From?

Woo hoo! It’s still holiday time in TSTO and all of it came with lots of goodness. Wookiee chiming in with origins for most of it. That’s right friends… it’s time again for me to dip into my noggin of Simpsons info and write about specific stuff. For this post I will be going over the fifth prize from Act I for 28,850 Santa Hats that was available in the 2015 TSTO Holiday Event… Patches and Poor Violet  But what do they have to do with the Best. Show. Ever. and Christmas? Let’s take a look at the TV Series to find out.

The first time we meet Patches and Poor Violet is in “Miracle on Evergreen Terrace” (S9:E10). It’s a Christmas episode and certainly festive. Last minute gift shopping at the Try & Save, Christmas cookies for Maggie & Lisa and bloody spearheads for Bart. A plastic tree to replace the aluminum one… “It’s craptacular.” Bart wakes up early and ends up ruining Christmas with his present from Sandy Claws.

No Bueno. Where’s Christmas? Bart passes off his mayhem on a burglar. Everyone is having a good Christmas except for the Simpsons. Miracle of miracles… all of Springfield shows up to make their Christmas better. Patches and Poor Violet show up to give them a dollar that the orphans gathered together. Violet would kiss him “but doctor says I’m sick.”

All said they get fifteen thousand dollars. Enough to buy a new car that subsequently skids out of control and falls in a lake. Bart fesses up to burning up the tree and presents. Unfortunately the town finds out. Patches and Poor Violet gave them their vitamin money.

Awful but funny to see Old Jewish Man who sounds completely different. Needless to say the family is none too popular. Miss Hoover refuses to teach Lisa, the Plant Workers won’t listen when Homer is actually doing his job saying there’s something unsafe. Even a stint on Jeopardy doesn’t fix the situation. Everyone hated being mad at them though so the town just decides to loot the house of everything they own. Well almost everything. They left a washcloth that the family has fun arguing over.

Not to fear though. Their stuff is back in “I’m Goin’ to Praise Land” (S12:E19) presumably and so are our new orphans. Poor Flanders is having a hard time getting over his dear departed Maude. When he finds a sketchpad of hers with ideas for a Christian Amusement Park, Ned ends up fixing up Story Time Village into Maude’s dream… “a shining beacon for the Lord”… Praise Land It’s one heck of a “Bemusement Park” and the Maude statue offers gas-induced hallucinations/visions. Yay for Violet… the statue can earn money to buy the orphanage that fourth wall they’ve been needing. “Three is not enough.”

Nothing wrong with toxic air freakouts. Ned isn’t sure about letting people huff poisonous gas to earn money to help people, especially orphans. Enough is enough when Patches and Poor Violet start to light candles next to the open gas main. While trying to save them, Homer and Ned tackle the duo and people are aghast at the action. Praise Land closes but at least no one blew up.

In “Simple Simpson” (S15:E19), P&P are back at the Springfield Children’s Hospital which is being turned into a Cosmetic Surgery Clinic. “Who will treat my whooping cough?”  Leave it to Quimby to have his goons remove the orphans.

Even better, I saw them in one of the most recent episodes of the show. In “Friend with Benefit” (S27:E6), they were among all the kids during club rush at Springfield Elementary. Who wouldn’t want to join Children Without Phones?  Jebus knows I wish most of them didn’t have them.

And there you go friends.  Patches and Poor Violet.  Did you earn them?  WHat are your thoughts?  Think Violet will ever get her cough fixed?  These kiddos make me think of every dowtrodden Dickens kid I’ve ever seen and now they get to make my TSTO it’s own version of one of those novels.  Sound off in the comments.

TTFN… Wookiee out!

  1. Thanks Wookiee. I can’t find the episode to check but were P&PV also in the Prank Monkey episode in season 12? My brain is trying to tell me there are orphans excited about seeing Santa who then get attacked by seagulls. Possibly not P&PV?

  2. I didn’t get to this character on time so it said I need 100 donuts. If I buy then would this mean premium payout for action? Thanks for posting

  3. I am unable to complete quest line for Climbing Up the D List pt 5, bc it wants Marge to walk Maggie. However, now that I have Maggie I am unable to complete this bc Marge’s quest has changed to “Walk with Maggie.” Suggestions?

    • Wait until the event is over.

    • Ya for some reason I’m doing this questline too?? It’s from about 20 levels ago so I’m seriously confused as to why it showed up in my taskbook again. I read someone saying it’s attached to money mountain which I’m almost done so that might be it. I’m at the same part as you and figured I’d just have to wait for the pacifier currency to go away for the task to complete.

  4. In the prizes window and also the simpson wiki page, it says that Kearney’s Other Son first appeared in the episode “Hello Mudder, Hello Fadder” But I have watched the episode twice now, looking for him, and don’t see where he appears. I have seen the other episode “Eeny Teeny Maya, Moe” where he is a major character, but those are over 10 season’s apart and I really want to see his origin, so if you can help tell me where in that episode he appears, that would really ease my mind. Thanks!

    • I’ve watched that episode three times and he doesn’t seem to be in it. The episode you’re thinking of is where I remember him from. I have an origin post coming soon. As for wikis… they aren’t always right which is why I use my own resources/brain. If you must use one, Simpsonwiki is usually more spot on then the wikia.

  5. I wasn’t able to finish the last part of act 1 so they want 300 donuts for these cute little vagrants. Just gonna wait till they sell em next year for 240 donuts I suppose :-p

  6. I wonder about all of their tasks, if they have an origin in the show. I don’t have a specific query, but it’d be neat to know for them and for others.

  7. Hey, off-topic but I just discovered that once you finish Mrs. Botz’s quest line, her tasks start paying in pacifiers!

  8. LOL missed the “Children without phones” stand, made me laugh out loud.

Honestly only really remember them from Praise Land, would love a KrustyLand makeover to transform into Praise Land, but hope it transforms into Itchy and Scratchy Land first.

  9. I wish that their begging task was longer, because I managed to put them on it right in front of my Helter Shelter and now I have to reset them every time I log in. (I also have Chester Lampwick there, but his task is 24 hours so it’s less resetting. Also, his position is easier to control because if he wanders off I just need to place a bench where I want him to be and put him on his napping task.)

…Yes, I like to use stationary character tasks as a kind of decoration. Maybe I’m weird, but I go out of my way to have tasks where I think they look best or make the most sense. Most of these tasks are ≥8 hours, which makes it easier.

    • I like to send my Rich Texan to the dog track and try to catch him in front of my casino as he’s leaving to have him celebrate Texan style, then I send my Tribal Chief on a vision quest so the two sort of mirror the sign for the casino. I also have a bench next to Fat Tonys hot tub, my favorite person to keep him company is Roger Meyers, it makes me giggle to watch him and Tony ash their cigars in the tub. I have neighbors who have parks and houses where they have all their sitting/lounging characters there at the same time (which I did for my stadium during the Tap Ball event so I had spectators) I also have my Stonecutters compound set up for big picnics, so I don’t think it’s weird. Perfectly normal to me.

      • Oooh, I love the idea of Roger and Tony smoking cigars together!

I have the Rich Texan riding the mechanical bull right outside my Beer’n’Brawl 🙂 (I’ve also, occasionally, had him celebrate cowboy style in the rain of oil coming from the slant drilling rig.)

  10. i love they’re 4 hour job. gets me in the feels everytime.

  11. I was the first to like this post! Heh actually never realized until now that there was an option to like the thread posts themselves. Will have to start giving credit where credit is due!
