Simple Town Designs: Building a Go Cart Track

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

So every once in a while, a period of TSTO downtime pops up and during that, tappers (ourselves included) begin a redesign (or design) phase for their Springfield.  This is something we love to see.  There’s nothing better than seeing tappers expressing their creativity and show casing different ways to build certain areas of Springfield.  That’s the beauty of TSTO!  It’s fluid and you never have to keep a design the same, unless you want to, for very long!  This allows for redesign after redesign and allows you to express your creativity!

Sometimes… we get comments asking for tips and design ideas when it comes to certain areas of Springfield.  While we do have a basic design guide here at Addicts (mostly just tips to get started), we thought it would be fun to create a series of posts based on different ways to design various areas of your Springfield.   Note: In no way do we consider ourselves “experts” at this design stuff, in fact MANY of you could teach us a thing or two about town designs.  These are just fun and different things we’ve come up with, inspired from our own minds or friends towns, to “spice up” our favorite virtual city!

For this edition, I decided it was high time to tackle a design in my B town I’ve been wanting to do for way too long.  It’s been a long time since I first saved this image, but credit goes to a tapper named nehash81.  I honestly don’t remember where I first saw this but my guess is on Flickr.  I’m thankful I at least wrote down the origin ID.  Inspired by this amazing Go Cart Track, I went through it step by step for anyone interested in placing something similar in their towns.

The decorations I used are as follows:

Go Cart Track Decorations TSTO

82 Large Hedges x $325 = $26,650
132 Shrubs x $135 = $17,820
34 Planters x $850 = $28,900
4 Monkey Bars x $760 = $3,040
71 Pylons x $135 = $9,585
3 Stolen Bumper Cars x $760 = $2,280
Total Cost = $88,275

The first thing I did was build the outline of the track using the Large Hedges.

I then used the Shrubs to create the curved portions at each corner.  Below each picture is the number of Shrubs I used.  I started at the diamond incut and worked clockwise around the track.

The design started looking good.  Next I tackled the items in the middle of the track.  I used 18 Planters, 4 Monkey Bars and 9 Pylons at first.  The placement can be hard to figure out so I place the Monkey Bars and went from there to the Planters to the Pylons.

I kept going with 3 Planters and 11 Pylons.

The middle was easily finished with 13 more Planters.

The next step was placing all the Pylons around the curves.  I did this from the Monkey Bars and then went counter-clockwise.  Below each picture is the number of Pylons used.

The last step in the Go Cart Track is to fill in all the green with concrete and voila… a fancy track to race on!

Here’s what the concrete looks like with nothing on top.  A tip would be to lay this out before you start to make sure everything sits right on top.  I just got lucky when I made the track.

Of course you have to put cars on the track so I used 3 stolen bumper cars for this.

And that’s it friends.  A super cool design by a tapper just like you broken down step by step.  There’s a ton of things you can do to this basic design to make it your own.  The center could be adjusted if you like or the design could be made even more complicated.  I think it looks nice like this though.  What do you think? Have your own track you want to showoff?  Plan on making one?  Sound off in the comments and happy designing friendereenos.

  1. this is so damn cool, love it! thank you wookie. 😀

  2. Here’s my attempt. I’ve been long looking for something to do with Sir Putt’s as it always looked a little off on it’s own. This go cart track really pulls it together and the Efcot Center helps.

  3. Impressive Wookie!

  4. Wow cool go cart track idea. I built something similar but not in my town. I saved the blue cars they had laying around In Kriusty land and built my own bumper car attraction.

  5. I love the go-cart track! Great idea. Thanks for sharing.

  6. my ea account won’t connect with my simpsons I tried 3 days to get in touch with ea but no luck I miss the game I was on level 56 if anyone can help please let me know thanks debbie

  7. Humph. I just downloaded an update, but so far it looks like it was just behind-the-scenes tweaks or something.

  8. Oh? A wild update just attacked me! Ipad attack Download!

  9. (Trouble39) Very well done!

  10. I intend to build a maze with all those hedges I got. I found out that I don’t really know how to make a good maze. Has anyone made one? I could use some tips.

  11. I think there may be some truth to Alissa’s claims that she locked Wookie in the attic til he wrote everything in his head. So many awesome posts from him recently. Not to assist in the crime of holding someone against their will but I kinda hope he’s not let out for awhile so we can get some more of these kinds of posts. 😉

  12. My neighbors know I am not a person of vanity nor design, I’d hate to shock them with such an attempt :p

If I were to attempt it, I’d rather have hay stacks instead of bushes.

Lastly, this Go Cart topic brings back a personal memory that I feel like sharing. Before I learned how to drive I went Go Carting and crashed (not badly, didn’t get hurt) into the gate about halfway up the Bridge. The employee came up and said “How did you manage that?” He got me unstuck and drove a little slower the rest of the way. After that I figured it was a sign that I am not meant to be behind a wheel. After about three years after people my age already had their drivers license I had to face facts and get a permit. Couple fender benders later I have a license and driving today :p

My first driving test, is another story in itself, maybe another time :p

  13. Imagination. Talent. Qualities I don’t have, so I appreciate it more. Amazing

  14. i made my family fun center a while ago, but i was inspired by the same design that wookiee is using as an example. i went with a lopsided figure 8 track, and tried to give the illusion that the kart is going under the bridge.

  15. Nice. The only grand design I made is a hilltop grand temple which I had dismantled. My town is very functional now to maximise profit and reduce cost. Really got no space for elaborate designs.

  16. Cute, but right now I don’t have the space.

  17. And if your clever you use coc event or superheroes items to make a themed cart track 🙂

    Love the design

  18. Kim (kimberlyah794)

Great post, Wookie! I love how nicely the design works and how you achieved your curves! There’s even something subtly hilly about the right side of the track, giving it even more interest. I’ve been tossing the idea around in my head to redesign my town, and this post has convinced me to give it a go. 🙂

  19. That is inspired! Very cool.

  20. Great idea to have this next to the Sir Putt-A-Lots!

  21. That is fantastic! I might adapt something similar for my Springfield.

  22. I can’t get my ea to connect with my Simpson’s tap out I’m on level 56 and spent money I don’t want to start over been all over internet I can’t get in touch with ea please help getting ready to quit trying

    • EA’s office doesn’t open until after 9am EDT, i would try the contact options after that. What happens when you try to get in? Does it just not load or is it something else?

  23. Firstly, OMG that is beautiful. Secondly, thanks so much for breaking this down, Wookie! I may construct one in the near future because of this post
