Should I Spend Donuts on the Refer a Friend Card?

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

Viva Las Springfield!  Bring on the Casinos, as it’s Vegas time in Springfield!  And nothing says Casino like a Refer A Friend Card, right? (ok that might have been a bit of a stretch)  Now I know many of you are trying to decide if this card is worth YOUR donuts, but don’t sweat it!  We’re here to help you decide what’s worth the donuts and what you might want to hold off on.

Wondering if the Refer a Friend Card is right for you?  Well before you hit that confirm button let’s break down the pros and cons of referring friends to your Casinos!Tapped_Out_Refer_a_Friend_Card

Item: Refer A Friend
Donut Price: 90 Donuts
What Does it Do?: So, basically this card that helps you earn MORE game currency when tapping Gamblers in your neighbors towns.  With out the card you’ll earn 10 ico_casino_redchip_lg per Gambler tapped, or 30 per town .  With the Card  you’ll earn 20 ico_casino_redchip_lg per Gambler Tapped, or 60 per town.

So basically this will double the amount of game currency you get from visiting friends.  Currently it caps at 90 actions (as with past events this could vary from player to player…and we don’t know why), so with out the Card that’s 900 ico_casino_redchip_lg (or the other currencies if/when they hit).  But WITH the Card it’s 1800 ico_casino_redchip_lg.
This does NOT impact the amount you earn when tapping in your own town.

Pro
-Earns double game currency when tapping Gamblers in your neighbors towns.

Cons
-EXPENSIVE…
-Not an actual item so once the event is over, it’s gone.

Final Thought:
Premium
For this event, I’m passing on the card.  Since it only doubles from 10 to 20, I just don’t think it’s worth it. Sometimes I’ll pick these up, if I don’t have a ton of time to tap, but lately they just don’t seem worth it to me.  I haven’t purchased this type of item in over a year…
Before you purchase/don’t purchase it I would say take a look at how often you can get into TSTO to tap during this event.  If you’re a diligent tapper this is something that really isn’t necessary since it’s pretty easy to earn currency throughout the event.  However,  if you’re someone who won’t be able to get into your town frequently during the event this might be something you want to consider getting.  It may only be a little boost, but it can still give you a boost.
Of course, don’t buy it if neighbor visits are difficult for you to make on a daily basis, since that’s the only place it will help you.

Freemium
Honestly, this is one you may want to pass on.  90 d0nuts is pricey for something that won’t be tangible in your Springfield once the event ends.  Plus you can earn currency fairly quickly if you tap frequently.  So if you’re a diligent tapper, save your donuts and pass on this one.

Of course in the end it’s your decision, we can only tell you what we would/wouldn’t do, and this is something I plan on taking a pass on.  Whatever you decide, just remember this is one item for the event that’s better the earlier you purchase it.  So if you’re on the fence, I’d say try to make your final decision by this weekend…this way you can get the most benefit over the rest of the event!

And that’s it my friends…the full rundown and pros and cons of the Refer a Friend Casino Card.

What do YOU think of the Refer A Friend Card?  Are you still thinking about purchasing it or wanting to see how the event pans out the next couple of days before you make a decision?  Thoughts on tapping the Gamblers?  How’s your Chip count doing?  Sound off in the comments below, you know we LOVE hearing from you!

  1. I’ve been having an issue during the last few events where the final of the 90 friend actions in my neighbor’s towns doesn’t give me the event currency.

    https://youtu.be/CPOJefNwrSA

It’s not a complaint as this hasn’t hindered my event progress. Just wondering if anyone else is having the same issue. It’d be nice to get it corrected for future events.

    • This isnt even on jus event stuff, once i get to 1fp left, it will say, you have 1fp left, u can continue but will not be award fp, now keep in mind it still says i get 1 more, so i click ok and click the next dude dont get any fp.. Now, i have maxed out friends, dont know how many that is. However, i do now, it starts the 3rd to last guy, so i loose one fp from him, and the next two friends i dont get 6x points, so i loose, 7fp or 1fp and 6x cause it says iv gotten too much friend xp…

Also, i asked this before, ok it says it DOUBLES, chips for friends.. Now inwas jus clearing some gamblers and i am gettin 20x chips per gambler… So, shouldn’t i get 40 on friends?

  2. Alissa,

    Thanks for the rundown.

You may want to amend your post and suggest that purchasing the Rich Texan is a better investment. Granted on a perfect basis, the Friend Card will net an extra 900 chips but factor in time creep plus not having 30 neighbors, you will not get them all.

Now the Rich Texan, in a perfect basis will net you 440.

The math points out 10 chips per donut vs 5.1 per donut spent. Yet you get to keep the Rich Texan AND how much time does it take to cycle through 30 neighbors? At least 20 minutes or more.

Hence why I skipped the Card and bought the Rich Texan. Added bonus is unlocking all the dialogs with other characters.

  3. 1st – thank you EA for delivering a brand new Event ( even though we’re probably long overdue for Level 60 (lol) , as this Long Time Tapper was taking a step back from Tapped Out to enjoy Pocket Morty (Rick & Morty) and the new Futurama game (this is serious competition, keep TSTO fun, or Tappers will leave – which they have obviously since my Neighboreeno count keeps dropping!)

2nd – (obvious) spending Donuts on this item is only worth it if you don’t play this game daily ( I play at least twice a day and I am earning plenty of poker chips)

3rd – thank you , TSTO Addicts Crew for keeping Tappers well-informed 🙂

  4. Meanwhile, Maggie has stopped making any noise when I look for her. She’s totally silent and I can’t find her anymore because I don’t get the sound when I’m close.

    • This happened to a couple of other players as well. I would suggest contacting EA…or trying an uninstall/reinstall of your game (which is what they’re going to tell you to do anyway). Just make sure you have an account saving your game (EA account) before you uninstall

  5. I’m not a buyer of these but I think they’re handy for people who actually have lives and can’t play as often as they’d like ahahah

For me, with free time, 5:55 pm local time, 30,000 plus, I am giving it a wide pass.

    • That is amazing! Did you have all the characters to earn for you? I do not have Arabic lady or the other casino owner. Currently I have only hit 25000. Most of characters are used in railway and are only just freed recently to help out.

      • As of 10.30pm Saturday night (the current time where I am), I have nearly 43,000 chips. That’s probably helped by the fact that I’ve worked two night shifts this week, so I’ve been awake all night and then because I’ve had things to do during the day, I’ve only slept in about 4 hour blocks, meaning I can set characters on their tasks almost exactly every four hours and have been able to clear my town of gamblers. And I’ve devoted my monorail characters to the event rather than making materials.

I’ve got only freemium characters (including Tuxedo Krusty and Paris Texan), so each four hours I get 770 chips, every four hours 480 chips from clearing gamblers from my town and I get about 10-13 tokens each four hours (7 from character tasks and on average between 3-6 tokens from clearing gamblers, normally the six if I go the full 5 hours before clearing gamblers) and that gives me on average about 1300 chips when I play the tokens. So about 2500 every four hours.

I’ll definitely be passing on the refer a friend too.

  7. Starting to get the rythem of these card reviews, unless you are rich, run far from this 😀

  8. Cue the standard flood of “Hey, I’m not getting chips after 30 friends, what a ripoff!” comments.

  9. This week I’ll be on vacation and might only be able to log in every morning, around dinner time and rest of the evening. Currently build up a headstart and am at 25k chips. But I’m afraid I might no be able to make it to the last prize.

Should I get the card?? As I’m not feeling like spending 90 donuts on a card

  10. I got it and it is pretty nice but I do agree if you are a freemium player Pass on this one
    PS I love this blog

  11. La Belle now earns 110 chips and 15xp and Welcome to Springfield Sign now has a 1% Bonus $ and XP.
    🙂

    • Thanks for pointing that out. That’s good news. I already have them. Apparently I’m not patient enough to wait for an SIB (NOT a jab at you Alissa, I know you’re totally in the weeds right now. You’re amazing and obviously working your tail off. More a comment on my own (sometimes excessive) donut purchasing tendancy…..)

I distinctly remember thinking “shouldn’t this earn event currency…..” and “it would be nice if this had a % like the Pow Wow sign….” and “I’ll just wait for the SIB…”

And then I bought them anyway. Sigh.

As a side note, I’m mystified by why I wanted that riverboat so much. Every single one (riverboat casino) that I’ve EVER been on could sink and the world would be a better place. In defense of riverboat casinos everywhere I feel compelled to add that they’ve all also been on the Mississippi. Correlation =causation? Perhaps they’re better in the rest of the world.

Like a rat eating a dead pigeon. Stay far, far away

  13. I really think that this item is a RIP OFF totally EA for putting an overpriced item that you can use for about a month, and then it is gone. (Yes I have seen the past events where they have done something like this, but I still HATE IT!)

  14. Hey everyone, the casino stuff can go on Squidport now! 🙂

    • It can also go in storage after the event. Not thrilled with this one.

    • now i’m torn between designing a las vegas style strip and placing the burns casino (along with the other stuff from this event) on the boardwalk, like it is in the show. what to do, what to do…..

      • Me too!! I havent started designing yet but I have a huge area to work with. My Squidport on the other hand is tiny but that’s where it belongs! Ooh the dilemma… Maybe I’ll just put Burns on the Squidport and everything else in Springfield proper.

      • This is where seldom watching the Simpsons is useful. My SF can look any way I want it to and I don’t have to worry about it being ‘authentic’.

As it does show on a fox channel on satellite I thought I should quickly check what seasons/episodes they are showing. Tomorrow they are showing Season 5, Episode 10 – Burns builds a casino!!!

Now I’ve got to watch it!!! 😃

  15. Was just wondering, are you guys planning on doing a post about crafting…unsure whether to level up the crafting window or get items for clubcard points…currently holding on to my resources until I get an idea of what others are doing 🙂 Thanks so much for all the hard work you put it for each new event btw

  16. I’ve never bought one of these types of cards, and I always get all the prizes, and even a few bonuts at the end. I play every day though, and check the game every couple of hours.
The last event where I didn’t get all the prizes was Whacking Day. That was right when I first started playing, and I don’t think I had enough characters at the time.
