Pi Day (Contest Alert)

Have you checked out the date today?!  Today just so happens to be 3-14 or in the  world of Geeks, Pi Day. As 3.14 is the short short short version for the symbol Pi. The College Kids at Princeton REALLY get into it each year. Just check this out.

  1. I tapped on all the links & the pics everything tappable…nothing pulls up the contest questions…so Idk what I’m doing wrong?! I entered last years no problem.

  2. Oooh forgot to mention I live right near Princeton.
Lots of special things like tours of Einstein related places, fun run, Einstein costume contests, pie eating contests 😄🍕🍕🍕, and a contest to see who can recite the most amount of the digits of Pi. Last year was really special since the date was 3/14/15, the first 5 digits of Pi.
Missed out on the festivities this year though. The costumes kill me. Haha

  3. Mmmmm pie aarggggll

Couldn’t enter until I remembered to turn private browsing off. Submitted and got my fingers crossed.

  4. YAAAAAAAAAY! …I can enter ☆☆☆☆☆

  5. So, I ended up submitting a fruit pie as my favourite, but as an Australian I probably should have put a meat pie!

  6. You guys are awesome. Now i want to go buy a pie and eat it during a simpsons marathon.

  7. Too bad I don’t live in the US. Oh well, I’ll make myself some lemon pie.

    Happy 3.14 day!

  8. Not sure if this is a coincidence, but I just won 5 donuts in Sideshow You. (Would post the screenshot, but not sure how).

Did that just start with Pi day or was it something that’s been around?

  9. Mmmmmm…..pie pants.

  10. what about if we live in the border with the USA and have a postal address there? 😀 can I get some pie ? 😀 cheers

    • lol it’s up to the pie company if they’ll ship there

    • Tell us more. You’re within the 20 feet/6 metres border zone?
      http://i.imgur.com/SKQlylQ.jpg
I’ve never been to Canada. The border [the road] between California and Oregon is weird enough.

      • That is a bizarre picture. No idea where that is. Crossing the three border crossings that are within a reasonable drive of me all require crossing a bridge across the St. Lawrence River that takes you straight into U.S. customs – no way around that! I’m sure there are plenty of “just walk across” areas in the west, but I have no knowledge of them, LOL.

        • Maybe it’s like that in the less populated areas. The image is from a DuckDuckGo image search.

Crossing is probably different than if you just live there. There are also some towns that straddle the border, including a lot of airports.

          • Most major crossings involve roads and you are funneled through customs – including road spikes they can activate if you try to run through. Nonetheless, the world’s longest undefended border will clearly have some places people can easily get through, I just don’t know where they are, lol.

      • LOL, oh.. nooo.. my border zone is the river (Mexico) ^^ just a “few” kilometres/miles far far away of Canada… (I don’t know how to attach an image)
        http://rancherita.com.mx/uploads/images/img_16071.jpg

        • ok.. I think I attach the image hahaha XD

        • Oh, that border is much different. Fences as far as the eye can see. 😉 I’m sorry that I thought you were Canadian. Nice to me you, person from México.

Images can be attached by pasting the URL on a separate line. To upload an image to the web, you gotta use a service like Imgur or *cough* flickr.

        • I looked at your name and wondered how you had Mexican characteristics in your name if you are Canadian… Sorry. But cool to see that I’m only half-crazy.

Am I right? Is your name Aida Xitla? Lovely name (if unpronounceable at first look).

Wow, cool picture. Is that from you house?

          • HI 😀 yeap this is my name thank you, and the pic with the big flag is my hometown, you also can see the name of the town; the US border fence is (I think) one mile from the river, just for security in case of floods.
Also the green big fields that you can see has a golf, baseball and soccer fields so after a certain hour the close the fence and no body can be in the fields

oh, I would love to be in Canada, I have been in Victoria, Vancouver , Montreal and Toronto; so far Victoria is the best place; I hope one day I can travel all the Providences and Territories.

            cheers 😀

    • That’s what I was thinking! Mind you it’s 45 mins each way for me, so 1.5 hrs round trip drive, plus bridge tolls and pick up fee of another $4 for free pie……maybe I’ll just bake one, LOL. 🙂

    • Oh no…..and what if you picked up the pie but Canadian customs wouldn’t let you bring it back because of the fruit in it….. I would cry. 🙂 Actually, I would eat it right there in the car, and then with mouth full of crumbs, mumble “Can I go home now?”, LOL!!!

      • Sad, shameful tears? Or happy, shameful tears? Either way, belly full of pie. No shame in that. 😉

        • LOL – sad, sad tears…..until I decided to stuff my face full of pie, and then happy all the way home, LOL. And remember, you’re talking to a lady who’s been on a diet for 6 weeks….I could absolutely demolish that thing before you even blinked twice!!!!

      • this is a good point, I think if Mexican Customs want to take my pie away from me… I prefer to grab a big cup of coffee and sit down, just to chill out, relax and eat the pie… and when the family asks about “where is the delicious pie that the TSTO addicts’ family send ?” I will say.. “well, it arrived all crushed because of S&H ” bwahahaha

  11. APerson (Ninja32999)

For some reason my game updated twice today. Did this happen to anyone else???

  12. Not certain if I will get disqualified or not, since mine isn’t an actual dessert pie, more a lunch. Nonetheless sent my response in anyway, Rappie Pie.

  13. Guy Incognito AKA Davidbo33

David? Who is David? My name is Guy Incognito. May I have some pie now? 😄

  14. Oh man if I don’t win I may have to just order a pie or two from them. Chocolate cherry. what. I need that pie.

  15. Maybe the foreigners should have to play on the 3rd day of the 14th month of the year. 😉 😛

  16. Kim (kimberlyah794)

Woot! Another fun contest! Good luck to everyone participating!

  17. Pizza pie is my favorite.

    • you sound like my husband lol

    • Does it have fruit on it? Pineapple “pie” might count. See if they’ll send you one.

      • All pizza has fruit on it, tomatoes are essentially a fruit, which are on all pizzas in the sauce, unless its alfredo 🙂

        • You and me are gonna spar on one of these topics. 😛 Tomatoes are classified as a vegetable. Since the shipping had “legal” issues I’m going to say that tomatoes do not count and therefore can’t make your pizza into a pie.

          • Well, for many years Pizza has been known by more than just the term Pizza. Quite a few have referred to it as Pizza Pie, like pie it is served as a slice, and finally, so I don’t bore the rest of us with a wall of text, I will just leave you with this website further explaining the situation:

            http://www.oxforddictionaries.com/words/is-a-tomato-a-fruit-or-a-vegetable

and boom goes the dynamite 😀

            • Bore away, just don’t boar me. 😛 More fair to bore me than send me off to open 10 more tabs (because it’s all so interesting).

“[The US Supreme Court]’s unanimous opinion held that the Tariff Act of 1883 used the ordinary meaning of the words “fruit” and “vegetable”, instead of the technical botanical meaning.”
Since Nix v. Hedden 1893 (when the decision was made) it has been the truth in trade laws in the US. It’s slightly less true if you live in Arkansas (where it’s both the official state fruit and state vegetable) or Ohio (where they straight up think it’s a fruit, mostly because of bloody Mary’s, maybe?).

I do understand that it should be considered a fruit, but this was brought up because of issues with shipping pies and therefore I thought of shipping laws.

I think the reason behind the ruling is a little funny. I mean, just because pizza always has cheese should that mean that cheese is a vegetable? lol. It’s a good thing, culinarily, to have different foods combined. Put veges and fruits and dairy and grains together, now you’ve got a pizza or maybe a sandwich. 🙂

              • Never was too far into politics myself, but something must happen to a tomato when it crosses the border then, since here in Canada we, at least some of us (myself included obviously), consider tomatoes a fruit 😀

              • Oh, you’re just mad that you don’t get free pie. Makes sense now. 😉 (I don’t know what makes sense because I’m just kidding. sorry) It’s political, but doesn’t politic stand for people? People are the cause. Just call us dumb like you always do. 😉

              • I know you are kidding, but just so you know, I don’t get mad 😉 Also don’t recall ever calling anyone dumb, heck I’m probably the dumbest one on here 😀

              • That’s good. No, I meant, the way we’re put down by the rest of the world (i.e. you), just like we put down NJ here in the US (though, obviously not Alissa). No, I don’t think you’ve said anything like that, but I have heard some people say things like that. I forget which ones. Lee? (Always bring Lee into a conversation.)

              • lol I put down NJ plenty myself….

            • More research says that “pie” wasn’t so restrictive to “fruit pie”. Which is obvious to people that eat more than fruit pies, such as mince meat pie (I guess) and chicken pot pie, both meat pies (I guess). But if you say you’re desiring a pie, what are you desiring? Exactly. A fruit pie. 😛

I don’t think pizza fits the definition of a pie, though… Just like an “open sandwich” isn’t really a sandwich. Actually, maybe they’re pizzas. lol.

              • Nope – I chose “pecan pie” for my “official” answer. No fruit…just nutty, sugary goodness. (Not that I’d turn down a fruit pie, or a cream pie, for that matter…love me some good banana cream pie!

          • Just because the U.S. Supreme Court ruled tomatoes as a vegetable ages ago for tariff purposes, doesn’t make them one. As Abraham Lincoln said, “If you call a dog’s tail a leg, how many legs does a dog have? Four, because calling a tail a leg doesn’t make it one.”

A tomato is a fruit, as it meets the biological criteria for that category.

            • Who you gonna trust, biologists [did you mean botanists?] or the Supreme Court? Biologists made up the classification, and they’re people, too. See, the court ruled based on the fact that it’s common parlance to refer to tomatoes as vegetables. No one refers to tails as legs… You tell me, is a bell pepper a fruit or a vegetable? A zucchini?

              • Can i choose neither? Science and the Court are both prone to make mistakes….

              • Only God is infallible, of course. Or not. Science is my god and oh god is it also fallible (hmm, spellcheck says that’s a word). Supreme court….well, what can I say? Where’s ryan when you need him? 😉

              • I think we should look up and see what George Washington, John Adams & Thomas Jefferson called it…then we’ll have our answer. 😉

              • Hmm, I don’t know what that is. The Washington monument? (I’m ready to be embarrassed by my ignorance.) Also, SS?

              • So I’m lost on what you’re questioning first…

Regarding SS…do you really not know what that is? S*** Show.

              • I don’t have TV, as I’ve stated here, so I guess I’m missing out on the SS. Also, I am averse to politics ever since “W”. I used to be really into it.

              • be thankful. It just dominates my Facebook feed all day every day…from both sides. Which is one of the reasons I try to keep this place a political free zone.

              • “look up and see what George Washington, John Adams & Thomas Jefferson called it”…called what? Is this a hypothetical question without an answer? Is it God??

              • Called Tomatoes…fruits or veggies.

              • My train of thought already left the station. I thought those were political musings… hah

          • Incidentally, you mentioning minced meat pie, and chicken pot pie as both being meat pies is a whole other can of worms, chicken is essentially of the poultry group 😀

            • What? 😛 I’m pretty sure it’s a meat. Maybe you’re saying like “meat, poultry” in a list? Familiarize me, please. lol

              • Not sure if it still counts nowadays, but back in the day, on Good Friday, Catholics were not supposed to eat meat. Actually some families, every friday weren’t allowed to eat meat. They were however permitted to eat fish, and poultry. So, were allowed to eat chicken, turkey and such. In that sense, chicken is a poultry, not a meat 🙂

              • As a Catholic…the rule is every Friday (During Lent) no meat (as well as abstaining from meat on Ash Wednesday. Actually technically you’re supposed to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday)…unless you’re under 14 or over 65. (or pregnant…and in my case I ate meat on Fridays last year because the thought of Pizza cheese made me want to hurl…)
                Fish is ok…chicken/turkey is not.

              • Knew it was something along those lines. Catholic myself, however my family didn’t abide by the “every” Friday rule, but definitely Good Friday.

              • Ah, yes. Religion: the only thing that makes less sense than the Supreme Court of the United States. 😉 lol (No offense… 😐 )

            • Or was it the can of worms? Meat or vegetable?

          • Heh, who am I gonna trust? I trust no one, so by that logic tomatoes aren’t vegetables or fruit, they are candy 😀

          • On an unrelated note, I think the two of us are just trying to make this the longest open thread ever 😀 Sorry A/B/W (although looks like Alissa is doing the moderating today, so we are definitely putting you to work lol)

      • What about pumpkin pie or rhubarb pie? Not pies without fruit?

  18. I love pie,cherry,apple,pumpkin, key lime…….mmmmmm,pie

  19. LOL what a funny contest. I won’t win a pie but hopefully I can win something cool 😀

  20. Can we have details about these pies like their radius and circumference, or if that’s too much trouble you could just tell me the radius and I’m sure I could figure out the circumference… now what was that formula?

  21. The one grandpa feeds 😊Pigeon pie😋

  22. I do love your contests and (despite being in the U.S.) love that you’ve managed to include people from outside the country too.

  23. Pi Day!!! I love pecan pie. 🙂

  24. Am I first?

  25. Happy Round(ed) Pi Day!

    3.141592…. => 3.1416 => 3 14 16 => March 14 2016

    Illuminati Confirmed!!!

In seriousness, though it’s off the beaten path, my preference in pie is for Strawberry Rhubarb, sweet yet tart.

    • Hah, so last year it was floor pi day, this year ceiling pi day. Much more sanitary. I still hope that it comes with some sanitary napkins. Cleanliness is next to bad innuendos. Or something.

      *braces for the asterisk button*

  26. Mmmmm… Pie *drools*

  27. I have won one contest on this amazing site… Last years pie!!! I would not complain if I won again. Those beautiful pies tasted amazing!!! Congrats to whomever the computer picks!
