Where Did THAT Come From – Chinese Acrobatic Theatre

In our silly lil game, we sometimes see things pop in that we have no clue as to their Origin. They seem familiar, but we just can’t pinpoint from where. So that is why we decided to make a fun lil reminder out of it. To let you know just Where Did THAT Come From?

Welcome to Simp-Sin City!

Wowza… we’re well into Act 3 of the 2016 Casino Event and boy have I dug this one.  There’s neon and gambling and all sorts of goodness.  For most of this event, EA decided to pull from two episodes but  it’s nice when they go further into the canon for new schtuff.  For this origin post, we’ll be looking at one of these… the Chinese Acrobatic Theatre.  Although it fits right in with my strip, you may not be familiar with it and that’s where I’m more than happy to do my job here.  Let’s head to the Best. Show. Ever. to find it, shall we?

“Goo Goo Gai Pan” (S16:E12)

You may remember this episode from the arrival of Ling Bouvier and the Springfield Orphanage but it seems the EA designers liked more than those tidbits for game content.  Long story made short, the Simpsons go to China.

The Simpsons go to China

Selma’s menopause prompts her to want a baby and off to China they go to adopt one for her.  Sure she has to lie and say Homer is her husband but it’s all in the name of motherhood and some funny jokes.  One of the places they end up is of course the fourth prize in Act III, the Chinese Acrobatic Theater.

The Chinese Government is evaluating Selma and Homer to see if they’re fit to adopt a baby and during their tour of China, the group ends up at the theater. During the show, the last act is cancelled because the star “had an onset of outspokenness and suffered a bullet-related death.”  The crowd is ready to riot but Homer is called to save the show since he lied to Madame Wu and told her he was a great American acrobat.  Bring on the most popular stunt… Chairman Wow.  “Now that’s precarious.”

And that’s it.  Other than EA deciding to spell this building the British way when it’s done the ‘Murican way in the show (in fairness it is spelt right on the actual facade), it’s a quick segment of an episode that turned into a full-fledged building in our games for this event.  What do you think of it?  Did you earn it yet?  Want to see Homer do acrobatic stunts in the game?  Sound off in the comments and happy tapping and gambling friends.

TTFN… Wookiee out!

  1. This building works well with the firework decorations which were just rereleased for the Firefighters event.

  2. Is there a Chinatown in Springfield? It would be fun to set up a strip in the game.

  3. Thought so! I like the building, it’s cute an open up possibilities of designs down the future. I don’t see it staying on my strip forever.

  4. Oh just a few hours ago I asked if u r gonna do a WDDTCF and here it is 😀

Actually, last month (?) we saw the SHEN YUA (Chinese acrobat performance) and I would recommend it – I enjoyed it almost as much as my time spent on this silly game.

    Hello?
    ECHO. Echo. echo.

  7. Theater and theatre are both acceptable here, in AMERICA. 😛 (Well, for the actual building name.)

  8. Didn’t like that episode at all, very discriminating against Chinese and China.

    • The rest of the show is fine with you though? At some point every ethnicity/sexual orientation/ religion and nuclear power plant worker could be offended by the Simpsons.

      • Last time i checked they weren’t harsh on any of those you mentioned

        • Have you seen the Australian episode? It was done in joking tones but they implied we were backwards (by using a boot as punishment), weird (for not serving coffee) and stupid (for not understanding the word coffee).

In this life you have to take everything with a pinch of salt or you will spend your life being offended.

          Anyway, just my two dollarydoos.

    • Don’t be so sensitive. It’s all in good fun.

    • As opposed to all the times they’ve made fun of Canada, Australia and… America!? It’s not discriminatory if you mock everyone 😛

      • You make the Simpsons sound like a certain someone with orange hair and currently running for POTUS……

    • Eric_Go_Isotopes

So you like The Simpsons poking fun at absolutely everything in the world, except China? Like the item, love the event, and the episode was hilarious.

      • The episode went too far, i understand you think it’s funny because it doesn’t affect you or your culture. The media can be very offensive towards Asians and get away with it. I love the Simpsons, just not that episode

        • That’s what I’m saying. The whole premise of the show is to use silly, half-true stereotypes to poke fun at different races. 99% of the time it’s America poking fun at itself. Right? I lived in China for ten plus years. You guys laugh at foreigners there. We don’t cry about it. I’m proud of my big nose! Have fun, Joe

          • That episode went a lot farther than calling “foreigner” with big nose. It’s not on the same level

          • Oh actually many Chinese people like westerners nose as they tend to be pointed and sharp. Many Koreans and China Chinese go for surgery to have a sharp nose.
