Addicts Open Thread

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

It’s that time of the week again, time for the Addicts Weekly Open Thread!  So, let’s get the conversation going!  Oh and remember…just because this is posted here today doesn’t mean you can’t comment on it all week long.  This open thread will still be open for comments long after today is over!

Here’s where you can talk about anything you want to talk about…TSTO Related, Simpson’s Related or ANYTHING.  Just no Add me requests…those should go here.  We’ll give you a few suggestions (like most Sunday’s you can talk about the current episode of the Simpsons) but for the most part you’re free to talk about ANYTHING your little Tapping Fingers desire…just keep it PG.

So…here is your Open Thread.  The Simpsons are all new tonight, what will happen in the new episode?  Do you plan on checking it out?

The fire event is still burning in our Springfields, although many of you have already completed it.  What do you think will be next to hit our pocket sized towns?

Sunday Night Baseball tonight features my Yankees at the Tigers.  How do you think that game will turn out?  How’s your team doing so far this season?

How was your weekend? Do anything fun and exciting?

So chat about the Simpsons, TSTO, Update fun, or anything else you can think of!  Can’t wait to chat with you all, you know we love hearing from you!

Have Fun!  And happy Sunday!

  1. I was thinking but nobody men it……….
Prior to the fire event we always had a fire hydrant ……..
The one in Krustyland with the police car crashed into it. I double checked and NO we can’t place the fire truck in Krustyland so I hope nothing catches fire.
    🚒 🙈 😃

  2. I suppose we’ll have to drag this thread to the 1,000
    🙊 😃

    • Why do it? We’ve made that milestone before, so it’s not like we’re on the cusp of breaking a record. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with letting it be whatever length it naturally wants to be.

  3. Omg a gone week again, I am still new to all of this b though my town is at 59, & just now adding friends though do not want vandalism enjoying seeing other towns, & amazed how different they are from mine! .

    • I guess you already know but just in case you don’t, I’ll be helpful,
There’s a thread for finding neighbours who pledge not to vandalise, and if you have enough Nero’s walls (with the flaming torch) from the casino event, or training walls in your town, the vandalism doesn’t affect your 5 star rating anyway.

      😃

  4. Last night I caught an episode of Simpsons from I think season 20, Irish themed episode, had the Leprichaun, and the Northern Irish Leprichaun, along with the Pride of Ulster flag. All three of which are currently in our game. I also noticed the Hulk, and the Thing were in the episode, both with a fight animation. Two of which are not in our games. EA, if you read this, I want The Hulk, and The Thing as playable characters in my town. Make it happen 😀

  5. What’s the deal with Other Springfield?

Who runs it? Shouldn’t they showcase each new item to let us see the new characters/animations/buildings and decorations available in action?

    • Hah, they should. But, back when we had levels, it was used to showcase items you could get from levels. That is, not items from limited time events, which is all we have now. So, I guess Other Springfield is done with, too. 🙁

  6. Brandine just had her last Spuckler baby… I’m so proud! 😭 👶 🍼

Sandra – Me too, much frustratementnous. Apologies for neighbourinos on non-visitation but I CAN’T…
Phil – Hope the city planning is going well, if your a neighbourino of mine (No idea…, if not, many free slots despite being a nearly 3 year addict… :), I’ve just “expanded” my Springfield to accommodate the multiple buildings as of late, I’d been trying to accumulate 11 million, and had been hovering between the 10-10.9999999 mark for so long. I have the chocolate tower of tenmillioness as my last inspirational… ish. Level 8-9 of the Tree of my-goodness-won’t-it-stop, and so-many-I-like-traffic-lights-Springfield-Heights ($200 millionish to go 🙁 ) buildings to upgrade / find flickin’ space for… Have a look ’round my Zenith City 🙂
Craig – Ta’ for the persistence in adding me back!
NCRosebud – Hello! (ECHO , Echo, echo….) Hope you’re doing well, hadn’t heard from you but see you tappin’ now and then.
Tape, Swiss and Sliq, shout out when you have a chance (an’ T-Bro!).
Hi Julie, if you’re still watchin’ 😉
Jebus and Tape (I know, again), you guys take so long to load but its always worth it!
Anyone else I’ve not named I’ve been trying to make an effort to spend some time and view your towns in the Fire-bug event, because you had to look around and pay attention to what you tapped, and I know I’ve inadvertently tapped the “wrong” building and graffitied without knowing (apologies, stoopid EA… mutter curse grumble) but I was trying to squiz at your creations.
And the moderatorinos, ‘Liss’ (&Co.), Bun’ and Wookster, hey… hope everything is going goog, all is fine, and the worries are none.

    • I’ll send you a request. Won’t put my whole ID on here but it starts with Phil . 🙂

      • Hey neighbourino!
Welcome to my lil’ Springfield, I’m only a Freemium but pretty avid… had a squiz at your progress, all lookin’ good 🙂

        • Thanks , coming round to visit you soon . 🙂

          • Hey Phil, just purchased a bit more land, the plan from expanding this direction is to accumulate my “farming” areas together, and then space out my “municipal” area, but also to try and plan so many extra buildings lately!

    • Bo worries your spot is waiting for you, life happens😊. Hope you are doing ok!

  8. Hello Tappers,
The 16th is my 39th anniversary. I met my wife in sophomore geometry class in high school and we started dating during our senior year. We married the year after high school. We were two young kids (I was 18, she was 19) starting a long road together.

We waited 14 years to have kids so I could finish my six years in the Navy and get my engineering degree. She got her degree and ended up with an MBA. The boys are 25 and 24 and employed!!!! Hopefully, we have many more years together. I think I will get her a new vacuum cleaner.

    • Congrats for tomorrow! That is an amazing achievement 👍👍👍

Can you get away with a vacuum cleaner this year because next year you get taken to the cleaners? Rubies ain’t cheap… 😄

Or does the vacuum cleaner you are thinking about also do the dishes, make coffee, cook supper, mow the lawn, do the laundry, service the car, rotate the tires, give her a massage and respond to the name Craig?

Congrats again to you and Mrs ibuylow2014 😃😃😃

    • Congrats on your anniversary, quite the accomplishment!
Seriously though a vacuum cleaner, unless that us what she asked for. Hope your kidding if not.
Hope both of you have a awesome day tomorrow and do something special. Also thank you for service to our country.

      • Yes, it was a joke.
There is no way I would have lasted for 39 years if that is the way I thought. I actually took her to Cozumel for her birthday in January and to the Bahamas in March for our anniversary. She loves tooling around on the riding mower cutting grass and pulling her little wagon to do her flower and vegetable gardens. But, the mower deck broke last year so maybe I will buy her a new mower deck. 😉

      • It was my privilege to serve my country. I want to thank all of you. Because of my service and all the taxes you all paid, I was able to go to college on the GI Bill and get my Electrical Engineering degree. Also, for the first nine months of my service I was in school to learn to be an electronics technician and for the next year after that I learned how to operate nuclear reactors, a skill I continued for 26 years in the civilian world until my retirement 3 years ago. So, again, I thank YOU ALL for supporting the military.

    • Congrats on your anniversary! That’s such a sweet story too. Here’s to many happy years ahead for both of you 🎉🎉🎉

    • Cool that you waited to have the kids. Almost unheard of. Congrats on anni. Vacuum cleaner sounds prefect.

    • Hey Craig, you sound like a pretty happy and settled bloke. Alway a little bit of me is envious when I hear about lives like yours. I had a fairly rough start, and it kinda went downhill from there. I’ve always tried to make the most of the situation I’m in, probably much like yourself. But, sacrificed much yo get where I am, and part of me always hoped for a family. Good on ya mate, hope the next 39 years are just as good!

      • I was in a very non-loving family as a child and my wife taught me how that could be different. We were good friends for the first couple of years after we met. Then we started dating and I knew that I wanted to take care of her for the rest of my life. In the Navy, I learned to study and started to do well in their schools and at the University of Illinois afterwards. She was there every step of the way encouraging me forward. The two best decisions I ever made were to marry her and to join the Navy.

      • 39 more years? That would put me at 96. I don’t see that happening.

    Happy Friday, Tappers 😃

  10. I have some time to kill (real life has gone a lil crazy lately) and I’m going to make one big comment with a few replies to some comments I’ve been reading in the last days but didn’t have time to reply then. 🙂 I’ll go in alphabetical order.

bigphil01: I LOVE books with stories that happen at sea! Have you read any? If so, have any favorites? Mine is by far Moby Dick – I don’t think I’ll ever feel that state of agony, anger, anxiety, despair and fear reading a book again. And the crossover with Frankenstein is just FANTASTIC *goosebumps*. I also like The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket, by Edgar Allan Poe, very much – if I recall correctly, it greatly influenced Herman Melville to write Moby Dick. Oh, and I have a fondness for The Old Man and The Sea, by Ernest Hemingway – but it’s more a book about fishing than the sea itself. What’s funny, ‘cause I don’t like fishing…

Davidbo33: I like your brother! 😅and no, no baseball here. Most of us don’t even know its rules (including me). My boyfriend likes it, though – he roots for the Yankees. And my grandfather was a HUGE Tokyo Yomiuri Giants fan; he was cremated wearing the team’s cap. Oh, and yes, you are an idiot. 😛

jjleigh: Congratulations, you must be so proud! I’ve been reading your hockey comments from the beginning, but I *really* started rooting for your son when you said his coach said he’s a team player. 😊 sorry it didn’t end like you expected, but you know, “true champions aren’t always the ones who win, but those with the most guts” 😉 I don’t remember where I read it but I think it fits perfectly. I would like to say more but I’m with a terrible headache now and describing emotions in another language is incredibly difficult, I can’t think properly… Just know that I’m really happy for you, your son and his team! Congratulations! Yaaaay! 🎉🎉🎉

Sandra: I smiled when I noticed you put a comma when actually there’s NOT one but you knew it should have (I hope this makes sense). Can you guess what I’m talking about? Hah.

simp7fan: “Esmalte”. I understand why Google Translator messed it up and my first plan was try to explain it, but it’s much harder than I thought. I would try a little more if it was worth it, but it’s more of a technicality of words… Sorry.

    • I understood your comment to me perfectly….I just don’t know which of my gazillion comments it refers to. But that’s okay…just tickled that you noticed something like that!

      • “Hail Ants” – “Hail, Ants”. It’s “Hail Ants” but you wrote “Hail, Ants” because it should be “Hail, Ants” and not “Hail Ants”. 😁

        • Oh Hail, you lost me!

        • Or maybe it’s:
          “Hail
          Ants”
on two lines. 😛 That’s why there’s no comma.

          • Actually, I thought that, too. If it were “Hail, Ants”, there should also be a period or an exclamation mark to indicate it’s a sentence. But it’s just a sign… Oh well, can you say I think too much over the least important things lol.

          • I thought it was a new kind of precipitation. Or maybe a “B” movie. “If the weather is bad, you better pray it doesn’t hail. That’s when the Hail Ants come…”

            🌧🌬🌨🐜🐜 😄

          • You’d still need punctuation, like

            Hail! 👋
            Ants! 😱

        • Oh yeah…I remember thinking about that when I wrote it…. Didn’t think I remembered that they had a conga butt know they should have, so I decided to err on the side of being correct. (Interestingly, it appears the “err” isn’t in the Swype dictionary, which is kinda ironic, if you think about it…)

          • Is a conga butt a symptom of being in too many conga lines? I suppose you could say all those ants are doing the conga…🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜

            (Just teasin’) 🙂

    • Hi Vanessa. I like the novels of Patrick O’Brian which are set against the backdrop of the war against Napoleon and feature the exploits of commander Aubrey and his friend and ship’s surgeon Maturin in the British navy. It is in no way a set of war books , although there is some sea battles in the series. If you saw “Master and Commander” the film starred Russell Crowe as Aubrey and was based on the books .. There are , I think , nineteen books in the series , but be warned , if you “get into” them , you’ll want to read them all. They focus just as much on the friendship of the two main characters. Master and Commander is the first book , best to start at the first book if you do decide to try them and see what you think . Let me know if you do . 🙂

      • Master and Commander, yes!!! Don’t know how I forgot to mention this movie in my previous comment; love it! I just looked it up; there are 21 books – the last one was left unfinished after O’Brian’s death in 2000 and published in 2004. And not all books were translated to my language, just from the 1st to the 6th and the 10th 😭 but I’m very interested in them!! Already asked my boyfriend the first book as a birthday gift. 😊

See, that’s why I like this blog. I learn so many things, talk to some great people (not you, Davidbo, you marble-throwingidiot)… Thanks, Phil! I’ll let you know if/when I get to read it.

        • Hope you do Vanessa. Oh and don’t let the “sailing” terminology put you off . I couldn’t tell a stunsail from a topsheet . When the book says something like ” the topsail was flapping and needed reefing ” I just thought “ok , get on with it then” and didn’t let it detract from the story . 🙂

          • I have to look up some works if I really want to understand what you said, but I understood the overall context of your comment and I really smiled because that’s how I react when I come across some words and expressions in books that require specific expertise/knowledge about something. 🙂

          • *content, not context. 🙂

    • So nice to see a comment from you. 😡 I’d be more upset about being called an idiot, if, 1) I wasn’t used to hearing it, or much worse, from my brother. 2) I hadn’t said so myself (I know you saw the comment). And 3) It wasn’t true. 😛

I, also, like The Old Man and the Sea. But, is it really about fishing? Some say no. Hemingway, himself, said this, “There isn’t any symbolism. The sea is the sea. The old man is the old man. The boy is a boy and the fish is a fish. The sharks are sharks, no better, no worse.” Yet another quote I’m fond of. 🙂

      • I didn’t read any other book by Hemingway so I can’t say much, but as far as I know – and I might be incorrect – he disliked prolix writing and was always plain and simple. So, yeah, no symbolism. I don’t think it’s actually about fishing; I just meant that, between a book about fishing or about the sea, if I had to label it, I’d pick the former.

        • I was talking more about the symbolism of it, rather than labeling it a fishing book (which is how I would categorize it) or a book about the sea. Some would say the sea is God, or the maybe it was the fish. I don’t know. When I read it, the fish was a fish, the sea was the sea etc. which is why I like that quote. But, I’m not deep. Or maybe I’m in deep water. At any rate, I should always stick to the shallow end. 🙃🙂

          • I agree – the fish was the fish, the sea was the sea etc.

Just out of curiosity, have you read The Catcher In The Rye?

P.S.: I was re-reading my comments and I just realized maybe “marble-throwing idiot” sounded rude. When I was typing it, I just traded “bad-ass” from your original sentence to “idiot”, because, well, I like teasing you 😛 but I would like to apologize anyway. Just be warned that, if you say everything is okay, you’ll see more teasing from me; if you say it was indeed rude and made you upset, I’ll keep my idiot mouth shut and never post in tstoaddicts ever again. 😭

(Seriously, though, I’ll stop if you’d like. Just let me know.)

            • Don’t worry about it. I thought it was funny. I can take some teasing and I’m not easily offended. That doesn’t mean you should try. 😉

I have read The Catcher in the Rye, twice. The first time was in high school, the second a few years ago. It’s not a book that stands out, to me. I think it’s read so much in school because we’re suppose to relate to Holden. But I never did. I have a hard time remembering it, the details anyway, I think because it just never held my interest. Is this when you tell me it’s your all-time favorite book and I really am an idiot? 🙂

              • I would never intentionally offend you. 😉

And no, I didn’t like The Catcher In The Rye. Maybe I should read it again – I only read it once, about ten years ago. But I always wanted to ask an American about this book; I’m so happy you’ve read it! So, is it a mandatory book to read in high school? It’s one of those books that you hear every teacher praise as a literary masterpiece? Or is it not even close to the big deal I think it is, and some teachers actually think it’s overrated?

              • It was actually banned in my school. I’ve never read it and it shames me to say that

              • Banned? Why? Something to do with John Lennon’s death?

              • I think so. I really need to pick that up

              • “Bad” language, IIRC.

              • Well, in general, I think it is considered a classic. I don’t think it was mandatory for every class. I’d have to ask, but I’m pretty sure not all of my high school friends read it. It might have been teacher choice. I guess the teacher I had liked it. The others maybe not. Or maybe they just switched up the books we read every year.

I looked it up on goodreads.com. It seems to be a polarizing book. If you loved it, you identified with Holden. If you hated it, you didn’t. Like I said before, I didn’t relate to him, but I didn’t hate the book. Just didn’t really care for it.

              • Holden is a miserable whiner, but a fairly accurate portrayal of many teenagers. I think teens are more likely to relate to him…most grownups probably would want to give him a little snack upside his head. 😉

              • I’ll take a “snack” upside my head…well, I’d prefer it in the mouth area. 😉 If I keep this up, I’m sure you’ll want to give me an actually “smack.” Maybe you already do. 🙂

              • Thanks, David. I make your words mine; though I don’t think it counts much because I’m neither American nor a guy. But I’m going to give that book a second chance. Maybe I just disliked the fact the book is centered on a character and that there’s not really a plot.

              • Well, if you like it on your second read, then, you’re welcome. And, if you still don’t like it, then, I told ya so. 😉

    • A Google search of your word results in images of nail polish! LOL. I think Google Translate should get help from Google Search to improve the translations.

  11. So um, this is probably old news for some of you, but for me, I just made a breakthrough lol. Discovered that the Exclusive Resort, Mapple store, Banana Dictatorship, Vulgari, and Spiffany’s buildings can go on boardwalk tiles. Also discovered Krusty’s Mansion, and Montessori School can go on the Beach. Gonna free up SO much land in Heights for me 😀

    • Update: Also discovered Jake’s Hair Palace, Java Server, Skips’ Diner, Happy Sumo, The Vast Wasteband, Alley Mcballs, and Herman’s Military Antiques, can all go on boardwalk 🙂

      • Also, Horse Parts barrel. I only say this because I keep my barrel beside the reindeer truck and have used these comments to help redesign my pier.

    • You must have a pretty big boardwalk!

      • Yes and no, once I start building the Heights one will make it better, but for now the buildings I discovered are kinda crammed down one end of the boardwalk…for now.

    • Good to know. I’ve been thinking about what to place on the SH pier. I kind of wanted more of an “upscale” look. I’ve already used a few of those in my designs but can always redo everything…again lol. 😀

      • Think I forgot to add this building into the earlier post(s), and didn’t want to post a third, making more work for the moderators, but if you have it, Wall E. Weasel’s can also go on the boardwalk 🙂 All those buildings imo will make for an awesome pier area, and free up land for other stuff.

    • New news for me! Moved a few buildings to Boardwalk, freed up some space and tidbits like that are exactly why I keep coming back to this site. Thanks Addict, and all the other addicts.👍

      • Anytime, glad I was able to help at least one person. Stumbled across the buildings rearranging my town, figured why not try them on the boardwalk. Was hoping that info might help free up land for some people, since it is so hard to come by.

        • Post any future breakthroughs ,I’ll keep checking in.

        • You helped me…sort of. You helped me realize my newly designed SH area needs to be totally redone in order to have a nice looking pier. Is that helpful? No, it’s hurtful. You’ve hurt me! I’m kidding, of course, always helpful to learn something new. 🙂

          P. S. Found a couple more that can go on the boardwalk. The Exotic Petting Zoo and Reindeer Burger Truck.

    • Thanks for getting everyone started. I found that the Fire Department can go on the pier. Hehe!

      • Kinda ironic, since it is one of the buildings that can catch on fire (in our games) and can be put on a wooden boardwalk 😀 At least if it falls in the water, the fire is put out lol

      • It *could*, but that doesn’t mean it *should*. I mean, who puts a town’s fire station out on a pier/boardwalk?

    • I’ve always tried to put as many buildings as possible on the boardwalk, you have a few I don’t have, but there are many more you haven’t mentioned, perhaps a thread (it wouldn’t take too much to filter a building list if they all flagged Squidport-ness 😉 or a list we could all start adding to. Bouncy castle, Windmill and most playground equipment, so many more!

      • Thanks for mentioning those, forgot to include the Bouncy castle in my list, and didn’t even think of the windmill or playground equipment as I have those in another set up in my town. (Although don’t have windmill as of yet)

  12. I’m trying to visit my neighbors, but the game keeps crashing every time (or almost every time) that I try to move from town to town. (I thought it was just when I was using the arrows, so I tried going back to the neighborhood to move to the next town, but it just happened again doing that.

I’m assuming this is just a problem in my game (since I haven’t seen any “chatter” here about this problem)….any idea why this might be happening to me just in the past few days (it’s gotten much worse today though) and whether there’s anything I should try to do to fix it? Would an uninstall/reinstall help?
