Homer’s Chiliad 2016: Insanity Mode

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

It’s Chili Cook-Off time in Springfield!  Gather up those Insanity Peppers and get ready to lose your mind, as we take a journey with the residents of our pocket-sized Springfields for the hottest chili known to man!

As S8:E9,“El Viaje Misterioso de Nuestro Jomer (The Mysterious Voyage of Homer)” taught us, Insanity Peppers will make you go, well, insane!  And you too can make Homer go insane once you’ve finished the prize track for Homer’s Chiliad, and placed the Insanity Cauldron.   You’ll then be able to launch…Insanity Mode!

Let’s breakdown this mini turtle tappin’ game and  see how insane it makes you….

As mentioned above, once you’ve finished the prize track (unlocked Wiggum’s Chili tent), you’ll be able to launch Insanity Mode!  (initially triggered via the questline, so keep following the walkthrough to get it to trigger for you)

2016-06-02 10.38.39

Insanity mode at the Cauldron, for now, this will award you game currency (Pills for SH…for now) for playing a new game.  The game is tapping as many tortoises as you can in 30 seconds.

2016-06-02 10.38.35

Let’s start with the basics…

How Do I Start Insanity Mode?

When ready, you’ll see a chili insanitypepper floating over the cauldron, tap on it (and make sure Homer is free)…2016-06-02 10.38.46

Before you hit start, make sure you’re ready to play.  This will take you into a game screen (similar to Where’s Maggie) and you won’t be able to do anything else until the game is up.  So be sure you’re ready to tap!

Once you hit start you’ll start the game and the instructions screen will popup:

How Do I Play?

tortoise_front_walk

Simple, you’ll have 30 seconds to tap as many tortoises as you can….so just search your Springfield for them and tap, tap tap.  (they will ONLY appear when you’re inside the game…you won’t see them any other time)

What Can I Win?

ico_heights_pharmaceutical_lg

For now the prize awarded after EVERY attempt…is Pharmaceuticals for Springfield Heights…2016-06-02 10.39.30

It looks like you get 1 pill for every 5 Tortoises tapped.

Pharmaceuticals will only pay out at the Cauldron until June 22nd…so get em while they’re around!

What Else Can I Win?

Similar to the Rocket Ship there are other prizes you can win in the Insanity Game.  These prizes are decorations for Springfield.

2016-06-07 00.55.30

Here’s a look at what else you can win (in order of how frequently they’ll appear):

Hieroglyph Wall 3Hieroglyphic Wall (most common)

Tapped_Out_Pumpkin_PatchPumpkin Patch (common)

canefieldCane Field (rare)

lightupeldergod_menuLightup Elder God (rarest) This one will pay out a 1% bonus on all cash and XP.

Of course you won’t always receive an additional prize.  In fact, more often than not you’ll get nothing.  So don’t be bummed if your game comes back empty handed….

How Often Can I Play Insanity Mode?

ico_homerschiliad_minigametimer

You can play Insanity Mode every 8hrs…but you’ll need Homer free to play!

Will Insanity Mode Be Around After Homer’s Chiliad is over?

Yes, as long as you’ve unlocked it you can continue to play after the event is over.  Keep in mind that the Pharmaceuticals earned for playing will only be around until June 22nd.

  1. No chili appearing above the cauldron.
    Is this a known issue?
My game is also impacted by the rollback glitch, is there a connection between these two glitches?

  2. Love this post! Just recently earned this mini game with the return of classic mini events. After playing about 2x a day for 3 days I received a *lightup elder god* & was pleasantly surprised.

  3. I think they changed the mechanics of this. It used to count several turtles per turtle tapped, but now it’s only counting one.

    • Yes, it unfortunately changed with the last update.

Speaking from personal values, I’ve gone down from 70-80 tortoise to 25-35 now.

  4. Is there any use for the insanity cauldron now? Is there still a way to use it?

    • Yea it’ll give you pills for SH

    • Homer can play the game there every 8 hours to earn stuff. (I’m drawing a blank…it’s either money and XP or one of the Springfield Heights currencies and XP. You can also sometimes win an additional prize…a pumpkin patch, or one or two other types of non-premium prizes (again, can’t remember off-hand what they are), or, if you’re very lucky, an elder god, which comes with a bonus multiplier!)

  5. since this is an open thread i would like to inform those that do not know this but while playing homer’s insanity cauldron game (tortoise smash game) you can hit each tortoise multiple times. before i could only get about 35 or so now i get over 100 every time. this trick will not make you a millionaire over night but it at least made it a little more fun to try and beat my old record and it does net you a little more cash and XP.

  6. We’ll for a while all I could get to would be like mid sixty ish BUT…now I’ve gotten up to -77- !!!! Ya gotta be quick!!!

  7. It seems like the tortoise spawn rate got modified recently. I used to be able to hit 60 – 80 tortoises, but now I can often get well over 100, with my record this morning being 169. That said, I do have all of my road in one place, which does keep the spawn area limited.

  8. Not sure if this was mentioned somewhere… but if you hit 0 tortoises, you actually get $500 anyway.. I started the game and then got distracted and forgot to tap my tortoises! LOL- so I tapped nothing… only to go back into my game and realize I still got $500 which i thought was nice.

  9. Insanity games really made me insane… 🙂 I’ve many pumpkins and cane field until I confuse where’ve to put it. The pumpkins and cane field give less treehugger points rather angel topiary, while they earn more spaces rather than angel topiary. Pumpkins earn spaces as minnow pond but give almost 4x less treehugger points. The bad news is they can’t be sold, meanwhile we keep get them while playing this insane game, even they’re randomly come. 🙁 Perhaps EA can give an option to sell those extra item rather to keep it in our stash?!

I do like the cash earned but keep having this useless extra item made me wonder when i’ll stop playing this mini games and keep the cauldron in my stash. 3-4 times playing insanity give enough cash to buy topiary or pond, so i’m not excited anymore to have pumpkins and canefield. I’m still playing it since hoping get more elder god (i’ve already got 2). :p

  10. This has changed. It now gives you money depending on how many turtles you’ve tapped. And maybe I shouldn’t say this here but there’s a bug. If you tap each turtle over and over and over again, one turtle will count as many. I’ve gotten over 70 turtles doing this. You’re welcome EA. You got a bug. 😊

  11. I know I’m a bit late here, but I’ve noticed that if I quickly tap multiple times on the same turtle, the game will register it several times. I’ve been able to tap about 100 doing this (previously usually only got 40-50), however the payout is still only 5 pills =/

Not that it matters much anyway since I’m just about done with Heights stuff.

  12. I’m still receiving the pills

  13. Anyone else have the cauldron stuck in the task book?

  14. Looks like the cash caps at 2000, XP at 400. Got 166 taps in, previous high was 153.

  15. Hey tappers do you know why some neighbours of mine have the red fox of the insanity cauldron in their Springfields like a character ? I also saw the fox in the figures (aka golden statue at the storage ) … do you win it when you play or do you pay donuts to get ?

  16. I played Insanity on my friend’s game and got an elder God on hers but when I played mine, I only got a hieroglyph wall (I have so many of them). Isn’t that something? XD

  17. Everyone is commenting that they are now receiving cash for this? I am still only receiving the pills… Did it change back?

  18. cinthiafer260

I straight up ignored this cauldron! hahaha Today Homer was free and I thought I’d get rid of that chill pepper floating over the cauldron (only got 19 turtles) but was happy to receive the pumpkin patch. I was so surprised I came to check the website. I’m happy to see that there are other potential prizes 🙂

  19. After a couple days of the new Insanity Mode (with money instead of Pharmaceuticals), I believe I have figured out a formula for the payout.

I seem to be receiving = 500 + 10(t); where t is the number of tortoises tapped.

This formula has worked for all my 43 to 66 tortoise taps:
    43 tortoises = 500 + 10×43 = $930
    44 tortoises = 500 + 10×44 = $940
    52 tortoises = 500 + 10×52 = $1020
    60 tortoises = 500 + 10×60 = $1100
    66 tortoises = 500 + 10×66 = $1160

Can anyone else confirm they are receiving the same 500 + 10(t) payout? I’d especially like to hear from those whose devices seldom generate more than 30 taps and those who have deleted their roads and generate over 100 taps. Thanks.

    • Your formula does hold up in the 30s…I tapped 35 tortoises and got $850. 🙂

    • I reached the same conclusion after receiving $510 for 1 tortoise and usually around $1500 for approx 100 tortoises. Today I received $2000 for 152 tortoises so that’s probably the maximum payout. They appear to have made the game a little easier lately.

  20. No more pills. But quite a lot of cash for an 8 hour building. Easily to hit over 100 tapped each time. The highest I’ve gotten was 120.

    • Not so easy if you choose to keep roads in your game, rather than just strip them all away except for one little spot. I’m not willing to screw up the nice, semi-realistic look of my Springfield just to be able to tap more turtles. I almost always score somewhere in the 30s, so the $780 or do I get for doing that (plus the lovely accompanying XP), will have to suffice.

      • Wow. I don’t think I’ve gotten more than 20 if even that. I really don’t care though. It’s just a fun little side quest with no significant pay out. Actually I usually forget about it. Lately Homer has been in the mansion and as soon as release him he usually gets sent right back to making blue prints and knuckles.

  21. Right on schedule, I’ve stopped earning Pharmaceuticals and am now receiving cold hard cash.

So far its been in the $963-$1100 range.

My most recent Insanity Mode was 60 tortoises for $1100. That low of $963 was for 43 tortoises.

  22. If you have a good amount of free space you can can build some roads, place your cauldron by them and the turtles will be numerous and easy to tap. I have only made it to the low 70s so far but am getting more each time I play.

  23. I’ve won the bonus prize a few times. Cane patch and a few pumpkin patches.

I like insanity mode. But its easy to forget to play.

  24. I’ve played the insanity mode so many times and I’ve never won anything! 🙁 I get the pills, and it’s says I’m enlightened but I’ve never won a pumpkin patch or a wall or ANYTHING. Is it random? Is it a bug maybe? It’s kind of fun I guess but I really had high hopes for a cane field…

  25. I love the pumpkin patch I earned! Goes great in my town. I love this mini-game!

  26. I tap it and it says DONE, asks me to spend 2 donuts. Homer is available. What am I doing wrong. It worked before, just not yesterday and today so far.

  27. I just tapped 69 tortoises and got the 10 pills and a pumpkin patch. The first time I did it I received the wall piece. I wouldn’t mind getting that character prize. Guess I’ll just keep tapping and hope for the best.
    Good luck all.

  28. I don’t like Insanity Mode.

It feels like I have to get rid of all my roads to really benefit and I don’t want to do that. Also, the bonus prizes are worse than useless, at least with the rocket I can sell the ants sign and clean up the trash but the hieroglyph wall and pumpkin patch sit right at the front of the inventory and can’t even be sold.
My inventory is full of rubbish most of which I can’t do anything about. Maybe that’s what I don’t like, not Insanity Mode at all!

    • Josephine Kick@$$

Keep trying & don’t worry about how many you’ve tapped. The only advantage to that I’ve experienced is a few more yoga mats😂 I have received an elder God, which is bonus percentage, so keep trying, it is worth it😊😊👍

  29. Not unless they modify the odds or add to the winnable prizes, this is a waste. I place the cauldron in the center of a bunch of roads and can’t seem to tap enough turtles, which the tapping seems buggy, and only revived two chunks of wall, which is pointless since I over crafted that item during that event.

    • Josephine Kick@$$

Be patient, it is worth it😂 ( & don’t worry about how many you tap, it really doesn’t matter much😊)
