What a Wookiee Wants: More Squidport Please

Hello hello friends!

So one of the things I used to like to do regularly was write a post every once in a while about things I’d like to see in the game.  I started trying to focus on things tappers requested and then life and events took precedence and I didn’t write them as much.  Then a confluence of events happened.  Alissa picked the Squidport for a Show-off and I noticed something funny while watching random episodes of the Best. Show. Ever.

Winter at Squidport Billboard Simpsons

If you’re wondering, that was the billboard in the intro for “The D’oh-cial Network” (S23:E11). Jeesh… is this really the fate of Squidport in the show and our games?  Is it destined to sit idle while occasionally getting a premium boat or submersible?  Do we have to wait for Christmas for EA to pay attention to it?  I think we’ve proven how creative we can be with the water side of our towns.  I think it is high tide, err, time the Squidport got some love.

This isn’t a completely new idea.  Way back in 2013 I wrote a two-parter with ideas for the expansion.  Yes, once upon a time this was something brand spanking new in our games.

Looking back at the posts, it makes me happy that a few of these things found their way into the game. Bloaters at the Squidport, the Noiseland Video Arcade, the Tiki Bar, and the Clamphitheater were nice additions.

But what else could we get to spruce up our designs?

Somehow, I eneded up watching two episodes randomly that included the Squidport. There was the sad billboard but I also got ideas from “Worst Episode Ever‎” (S12:E11). Interestingly, this episode is actually one of the best IMHO. Comic Book Guy has a heart attack, leaves Bart and Milhhouse to run his store, and goes on a date with Agnes Skinner at none other than the Springfield Squidport. Marge and Homer encounter the couple there while passing by some items which could grace our games.

The Karachi Hibachi, Have It Uruguay, The London Broil, What They Eat in Iceland and Mussolini & Frank’s.

These are funny gags and the booths would make fun additions. Other ones we don’t see are A Taste of Serbia and Iraq E. Cheese’s. The true joke is that it all comes from the same place. What I’d really love is this guy as a decoration in our Squidports.

But wait, there’s more ideas. I often save images while watching the show for posts like this and never find time to write them. In Part One of my first WAWW for Squidport I mentioned Moe’s Brewing Company but that’s just a façade to his actual bar. It occurs to me that what I’d think would really look cool would be Moe’s Express from “Postcards From the Wedge” (S21:E14).

Moe's Express Simpsons

Sure it was located at the Springfield Mall but I could imagine Moe opening more than one. Heck, it could be a freemium item we could build multiples of and give Moe and Squeaky Voiced Teen a new task.

Another item I think would fit in perfectly is Let’s Hear It for the Soy from “Husbands and Knives” (S19:E7).

Maybe it’s just that I like gags and puns. I’m sure there are plenty of things besides all this that could make our Squidports that much bigger and brighter. In the interest of keeping this post short, I’ll stop here and end what I guess is Part III of this wishlist. I’d just like to see some attention thrown towards the Squidport this summer. Won’t somebody think of the seals? Does it have to be a winter wasteland? What kind of stuff would you like to see? Sound off in the comments and keep on being classy.

TTFN… Wookiee out!

What I would like to see is the ability to zoom out farther so I can see more of My Springfield in one view. It would really be helpful when rearanging buildings into a more “sane” layout since I have found that durring events I often end up placing a building anywhere that I can find space, with the intention of finding a better place for it after the event ends. It would be okay if the bigger view was view only, as long as I can see a larger view of My Springfield.

  2. I have 37 businesses in Squidport and built in slip space for 11 boats. I feel like they are constantly adding to it every time a new business can be placed there.

  3. I know your post was about the Squidport, but it got me thinking – why not an expansion where you could build Springfield Mall and all of the shops, cafes and stuff that are in it (Flanders Leftorium for instance)?
