Addicts Bracket Challenge: Most Desired Character Week 3

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers! It’s time for Week 3 voting of our Addicts Bracket Challenge!
Once again….here’s Safi:

How much longer EA can keep Tapped Out going is up for debate. But what isn’t debatable is that there are plenty of characters in the rich history of The Simpsons universe still not in our little game. From Homer’s college mates to his look-a-likes, from Bart’s crushes to Lisa’s idols, from four-eyed friends to four-legged pets, there is plenty of ‘untapped’ potential (pun intended). But which character do we really want?

We present to you the TSTO Addicts: Most Desired Character Bracket Battle…..

As we move away from the 1 vs. 8 match-ups, each week seems to get harder and harder to vote/predict. We have eight great match-ups between the #3 and #6 seeds this week. Three of the most requested characters in the comments make an appearance this week with the Barflies and Gil competing this week. Doppelganger has another tough match-up, this week featuring Milhouse doppelgangers. And the women’s conference features two senior ladies who bear a striking resemblance themselves.

Now onto the third set of eight Round 1 matchups:

  1. Sorry for the really stupid question, but I read the first post (where you introduced the challenge), the second one and this one… but I really couldn’t find HOW to vote 🙁 I really searched everywhere but I didn’t find any form, any place or any instruction. (and probably my english is too poor to understand 100%). Help!

    • What web browser are you using? Mozilla Firefox? Google Chrome? Internet Explorer?

The reason I ask is because I’ve seen comments from Firefox users that they don’t see PollDaddy polls appear in their browser.

The PollDaddy voting widget is located right under the Tales Of The Tape for each match-up. If you’re just seeing one Tale Of The Tape after another, it means your browser is not showing the vote.

  2. A shelbyville expansion would be great. The currency could be lemons off the lemon tree. I would like it if they done a new screen like with the krusty land shuttle. Mainly because I am waiting for badlands. I would like an ogdenville event. Not an expansion.

  3. Miguel Martinez

I think is Brittany Brockman, no Britney.

  4. I’d love a “War on Shelbyville” event.

    Characters:
    Shelbyville Manhattan
    Aristotle Armadopolis
    Donny (spy for Skinner)
    Groundskeeper Wilma
    Joe the Bartender

    Shelbyville Kids:
    Milhouse
    Shelby
Shelby friend #1 (kid who can’t count)
    Friend #2 *bully friend*

    Buildings:
    Impound lot with Shelbys Dad
    Joe’s tavern with Joe
    Shelbyville theatre district (upgradable)

    Decorations
    Yellow firehydrants
    Turnip trees
    Springfield sucks sign
    Shelbyville Manhattan statue

    • Great idea! Would we place all these items in our Springfield? Or do you think it would be in another area? If the latter, would Shelbyville be on the other side of the Springfield Heights mountains, like Springfield Heights is to Springfield? Or would we travel to Shelbyville like Krustyland?

      • I think Springfield heights should move over for shelbyville

      • Hopefully we would travel ala Krustyland.

I just reached my max amount of items and am not willing to store anything :-(. If they keep adding stuff I won’t have anywhere to put it!

        • I would be very opposed to that idea. I never go to Krustyland. Never did like the idea, doesn’t even feel like I’m playing the same game. Besides unless they make up a lot of stuff it would be pretty empty.
They should have used the other side of the mountains for Krustyland and forgotten all that oversized Heights junk.

          • If nothing else you could use it for free and easy extra cash since you can convert the tickets.

          • Plus the occasional free donuts at Sideshow You, although that’s less of a draw because there’s so many ways to get bonuts now, and I think they all pay out more regularly.

I think Ryan is one of those players that has more than enough game cash, so that’s probably not an incentive for him.

    • Tute on, son!

      Tute on!

  5. Ahh, a cool glass of turnip juice!

  6. There were some hard choices this week such as Colin & Jeremy, Britney & Darcy and Bailey & Beatrice. Colin could appear in a Simpsons movie event next summer. Britney could appear in a SH cheaper 3 expansion bundled with Kent’s mansion as a prize along with Gil. Darcy and Britney could be released on Valentine’s Day. Oh and I chose Colin, Maurice, Hell satans, shelbyville milhouse, Jacques, Britney and Beatrice.

    • These are some nice ideas for future events and while I would love a simpsons movie event (so many possibilities) I chose Jeremy Jailbird over Colin

  7. I had to vote for the pigeon, I’m afraid Michael would be mad if I didn’t.

  8. Some of the decisions this week we’re quite hard. But the animal one was easy for me I went with Raymond bird on the basis that the game has a lot less flying creatures than horse types we already have plenty of horse type animals from the wild west event plus furious , D , Princess and the old gray mare. Off the top of my head for birds I can only think of freedom and I guess you could partlying count prairie maggies task as well.

  9. I really look forward to these every weekend now. Safi you’ve hit a six.

  10. Sgt. Seymore Skinner…

No, just no. A thousand times, NO.

That episode should never have happened. Harry Shearer should have flat-out refused to do it, and the other voices should have backed him up. The only person who hasn’t completely disowned the episode was the doofus who wrote it, and his only defense was “you guys just didn’t get the joke.” We DID get the joke, it’s just that the joke had already been made many times, by much cleverer people. I can’t think of a character whom I would want less in this game.

    • Honestly that’s one of my favorite episodes

      • In all sincerity, I can’t imagine why. I’m usually able to detach myself and view something on its own merits, but I can’t even sit through that episode.

        • I think Agnes is hilarious in that episode. May have some of my favorite lines by her. And I love the way it feels like the Simpsons are making fun of themselves and taking full advantage of their flexible reality.

          • Heh, I’m the exact opposite: For me, Agnes was at her most intolerable. I’ve seen too many people either like her or who had a parent like her IRL, and she’s just too horrible to be funny when they dial her up like that. And again, the show had already made fun of its flexible reality many times before; the whole thing was really unneccessary and (IMO) ham-fistedly done; I like clever and subtle, not being beaten about the head and neck.

            • So what did you think of the Frank Grimes episode? That’s another one I loved only to find out later that most people hated it.

          • I love the B-story, but yeah, I don’t like the main one. Again, I get what they were going for, but it just doesn’t work for me.

          • Interesting take. I sort of see what you’re saying. As one of the prior posts points out, the episode was sort of poking fun at itself and the series. You had a lot of one and done characters/ plot lines around that time. Judge Snyder even declared, while they were riding Sgt Skinner out on the rails (paraphrasing) “And I decree we will never speak of this again.” So yes, a bit heavy handed.

As for the Frank Grimes episode, I do not feel these are comparable. Grimes (“or Grimey as he liked to be called”) was just a perfect antagonist for Homer. Maybe antagonist isn’t the right wrong. Too strong. If Grimes was a tightly wound clock, then Homer was a slow moving cloud on a beach. They played off each other perfectly. This was during Homer’s “cute” phase, when he was innocent and likable and wanting to be liked, prior to parts of season 10 when he became a non-sensical schemer who seemed to be the center of every zany plot. I’d compare Homer’s demeanor in the S8 Frank Grimes episode to his in S9 Simpson Tide. Drill Instructor: “OK, Simpson. I don’t like you and you don’t like me. Homer: “I like you.”

In conclusion, I hear what you’re saying. But I still count the Frank Grimes episode as one of my favorites. “Take me out to the ball game… Take me out to the ballllll. Heyy Grimey.”

  11. I always think of Jacques more of a marriage on the rocks, home wrecking event- like a doughnut rebate on the beer brawl and lurleen, bring back Mindy, high school skin for Artie, bring in the squishee lady for Apu

  12. I cant bellieve lionel hutz isn’t already in the game , one of the best characters every and would be a great way to remember phil hartman

    • That is why they don’t have the chracters in the show anymore so they will probably not bring them into the game (Phil Hartmans characters)

  13. 4kidsandacatdog

The two Milhouses were a tossup, but I’m dying for a Hank Scorpio spy event so of course I had to vote for Cypress Creek Milhouse! Sometimes it’s the potential event that decides it for me.

  14. The voting seems a bit closer than last time, will be interesting to see the final results…

    • Yeah, as we get to the #3 vs #6 match-ups and even next week with #4 vs #5,I really anticipate some tight match-ups. I’ve been following percentages since the get-go, amazing how many change of leads have occurred.

  15. I wonder if anybody else has noticed how Natalie Portman once played (well, voiced) a character called Darcy and later appeared in two films with another character called Darcy.

  16. I voted for Beatrice Simmons, but is Audrey Meadows still alive?

    • Audrey Meadows passed away in 1996. I always liked her and I loved the episode she was in.

      • Thanks, that’s what I thought. Makes it unlikely that EA will add that character into the game, then.

        • I don’t think it does. I’m guessing you think that because of Phil Hartman, but the circumstances of his death are why it’s a somewhat sensitive issue for people, not the simple fact that he is dead.

          • Have they ever added a character after the actor who played that character had died?

          • Yes. Lucious Sweet’s voice actor is dead, the original voice of Manjula has passed away, and so has the original voice of Lunchlady Doris. (And this may or may not count, but Elizabeth Taylor voiced Maggie once, in “Lisa’s First Word.”)

    • Everytime I have scrolled past this comment, I have misread the first line as “I voted for Bernie Sanders”. Too much 420, maybe. 😂

  17. is this the untimely end of milhouse?
    but, milhouse is MY name.

  18. So many different animals on the Simpsons to chose from that I’m surprised that these two where chosen. I vaguely recall the pigeon and it was a bit of a toss up between the two but I went with him. I can’t wait to see all the results from this week’s rounds! This has been a lot of fun! 🙂

  19. I have studied S1 E12 already (haven’t posted yet) but I can’t verify Britney Brockman’s appearance in that episode. (Though a few sites claim she appears) I think I might need to go to a professional source… Wookiee what was Britney Brockman’s first appearance? (If it is S1 E12, I need a picture) :p

    • That’s probably because it is incorrect, she first appears in “Lisa vs. Malibu Stacy” [S5E14/1F12]

    • AzulPantalones

I’m going to guess that they count the redhaired birthday girl named Britney in the episodes beginning to be the same character. Wouldn’t be surprising if they were, due to many secondary characters getting a change in appearance after season 1, but I don’t think it’s the same girl.

  20. Hey you know who I would like to see, is a combo with Mulder and Scully from the episode Springfield files I would like to see them added during Halloween it’s just that I’ve been watching the
X-files a lot then I saw that episode and thought that it would be pretty cool if they added them as a combo with the FBI Springfield HQ (I believe that had that building in the episode can’t remember)

    • Honestly if they start adding celebrity characters into the game it will jump the shark for me. I honestly think that in the late 90’s early 2Ks the show got carried away with celebrity guests. IMHO.

      • Well yeah, I just think it would be cool and a reasonable combo with the FBI building they had for Springfield in the episode, i would love to have them as characters but I understand what you mean

      • If the actors were added as characters, yeah that might be silly, but Mulder and Scully are not really celebrities. At least no more so than Homer Simpson is.

We have Matt Groening as a character in-game. Not a character played by him, but an avatar of the show’s creator himself. I would say that he counts as a celebrity character more than Mulder and Scully would.

  21. Had to go for Maurice. Many of you are to young to remember how tough we had it in the 90’s. No FX every episode ever, no DVD complete seasons. I had one VHS tape with three episodes and my favorite was Crepes Of Wrath.

    • I voted against Ugolin and Cesar but voted for Maurice (feels kind of weird).

    • Don’t forget Atari, Commodore 64, Pong, and the death of the Arcade stores… oh wait, that’s leading up to the 80’s, my bad 😀

    • I agree. Voted for Maurice, as well as Ugolin and Cesar. Loved Crepes of Wrath. Such an interesting episode all around.

      • Is that the same episode where the Rhomanian kid stayed with the Simpsons while Bart was in France? He was a spy or something.

        • Yes, Albanian kid Adil.

Crepes of Wrath characters feature in 3 straight weeks of match-ups, with Cesar and Ugolin last week, Maurice this week, and Adil next week. (If you can’t tell, it’s amongst my favourite episodes.)

    • I bought blank vhs tapes just to record the Simpsons (ok, and also music videos I liked… REMEMBER MTV???) back then and had SO MANY 6 hr tapes of Simpsons episodes. I would even write a list of the episodes on each tape with my own made up episode ‘titles’ because I didn’t know the actual ones. 🙂

      • Lol. I did the same thing. I wonder where those tapes are now. Probably my Parent’s basement. I’m going home in a week, those would be fun to find. They were a mix of Roseanne, Drew Carey, Mad TV, Simpsons, 3rd Rock, MTV, etc, with old commercials. I bet I even have the MCI/AT&T war of 1997 documented.

      • That’s funny. I did the exact same thing, made up titles and everything. Probably had a least 15 VHS tapes full of episodes

        • Those tapes came in so handy, too. I used to live in the middle of the woods and we couldn’t pick up regular channels even with an antenna. We had illegal satellite TV because my roommate at the time was working for direct tv, but the signal went out anytime the wind blew so it was pretty unreliable. To this day I would not be opposed to watching hours of the simpsons because there’s no other option. It didn’t even feel like deprivation. 😊

    • Eh, several seasons in, the old episodes were syndicated and the reruns were on pretty frequently, though, so it’s not like you couldn’t re-watch the old episodes.

Which is probably all the more reason why I love the early seasons of the show so much.

  22. I really look forward to these posts because I love this concept in general. Very pleased to see Pinchy moving on. The only character that I voted for this week that I really have strong feelings for is Beatrice Simmons. I really like the seniors on the show, maybe because I’m a total sucker for the elderly. I’d also like to see Rita LaFleur in the game. Basically, I want any character that makes Abe happy because hey, Grampa deserves love too, right?

  23. Makes me so happy to see Jeremy Jailbird winning his bracket. HE’S SO ADORABLE 😆 Colin would be cool as well, but I think he got a bad match up in the bracket lol.

  24. My WordPress blog page had been empty since I created a WordPress account. I finally figured out what to do with it. I just “press” the posts I contributed to here. So if anyone goes to my page instead of here, it will link to this site and my posts here.

Now why anyone would go to my Word Press page without coming here first is beyond me, but still, at least that page is no longer empty!!!

    • Safi – Speaking of Word Press, any idea why it makes me log back in every time I take an action on this site (e.g., “like”) even though I always check keep me logged in? Guess I’m asking if you have the same problem.

      • No, I haven’t had that problem on my laptop, iPad, or phone. All three keep me logged in.

I do have that annoying problem with my Rogers Anyplace TV on my laptop though. Have to log in every day to watch the Blue Jays game.
