Totbox’s Throwback Thursday: S1 E8 The Telltale Head

Just because I’m on vacation this week doesn’t mean the blog stops running…which means, it’s time for another Throwback Thursday with Totbox!  Enjoy this week’s installment of a great episode! And I’ll see you all in just a couple of days! -Alissa

Hey You, Yeah You, I know who you are and I know what you did… Just kidding I don’t know anything but I bet you felt paranoid for a second :p

This episode seems to have two themes: guilt and needing to belong/fit in. Guilt is a powerful motivator, if you don’t believe me just ask your mother. :p The need to belong is… A need. Some folks will do the craziest things for acceptance, for example: I decided to write a bunch of posts based on the old episodes of The Simpsons :p , While others just make multiple comments within TSTOA posts… Do you feel guilty that I said that? (Wait, I do that too.)… Before I turn this into a Totbox Tell-All I’d really “Like” to present episode 8:

“The Telltale Head”

Sometimes popularity is a pain in the neck

Season 1, Episode 8. February 25th 1990.

FIRST TIME FOR EVERYTHING:

Krusty and the Space Mutant movie monster (outside of the Tracey Ullman Show), Jimbo, Kearny, Dolph, Reverend Lovejoy, Apu, Sideshow Bob, Jebediah Statue (and actor portrayal), also (according to other sites) Kent Brockman but not physically and the voice that sounds like his, isn’t confirmed as his. Buildings also appeared for the fist time such as the Aztec Theater, First Church of Springfield, and the Kwick-E-Mart (though mentioned in an older episode).

There are also characters and items that appeared for the first time that Could come into TSTO in the future maybe. OH THE POSSIBILITIES:

Some previously requested Characters:  Ms. Albright (Sunday school teacher)

Possible Skins: Sunday-Best Simpson Family, and Ninja Bart.

The picture below contains a stranger sitting next to Mrs. Krabappel (in church and I’m not talking about Jasper) who is that man in the green sweater? Is it Mr. Krabappel perhaps?

Possible NPCs: the actor’s portrayal of Jebediah’s attacking bear. (Mainly mentioned because I want another Bear event)

Possible Events:  Jebediah Springfield Historical Event, Angry Mob (with torches) event, cloud art guessing mini-game?

Characters and Things I didn’t mention because I personally have no interest in them joining the game Don’t Mention It: “Candy Most Dandy” shop and proprietor, Aztec Theater guy and audience, Space Mutant actors, reporters, church goers, oldies and unrecognizable Angry Mob members

some Highlights:

Some other things to think about:

I can’t quote it here on this site but Homer talking to Bart at the very beginning of this episode feels like the writer’s knew it was funny out of context, as well as a few other moments (but I’ll have to leave it at that and let your imaginations go wild, unless you rewatch it or read it). I don’t know if the statue is very fragile or that was one powerful saw. I have some strange fascination over familiar decor being not what we are used to, Moe’s Tavern’s interior seemed to have a paint job (burgundy) and they removed the saloon doors (that were in previous episodes). Chief Wiggum’s hair was black in this episode (I know it happens in other episodes as well but this is the first time, I don’t intend on calling it out in the future). This episode aired in 1990 and in 1991 the video game “The Simpsons: Bart Vs. the Space Mutants” was released (I played it but I was very bad at it, like-couldn’t-get-passed-the-first-level bad). Thank Goodness video gaming has evolved since then (like Tapped Out) 🙂

Do you remember the episode? What was your favorite moment?  Any of the Possibilities that you Really do/don’t like? Ever do something stupid just to gain popularity? Ever been on either side of an angry mob? Ever try to hide something but the guilt of it drove you slightly mad? Ever ask a religion teacher something strange (I know I have) 🙂 ?  Did anything I say in this post feel (Edgar Allan) POEtic? ;p Can you imagine a world without guilt? Sound off in the comments and journey back to your current time space/time whether you Like it or Not (but if you leave a LIKE that would be nice and if you don’t, you might feel a little guilty) 😛

  1. Pretty good read Totbox. I must admit I liked last weeks better, possibly because you seemed to talk more about the episodes plot etc. I think I speak for most of us when I say keep ’em comin’.

    • Thank you for the encouragement but I think I’m going to lose some sleep trying to figure out what you mean about your preference (since I don’t think I went into much of the plot on “The Call of The Simpsons”).

I really don’t want people to read my Throwbacks as a substitute for watching the episodes and since there is already dozens of Episode reviews I try to stay away from going too deep about what happens unless it helps explain the items that I want (or it made me think about something interesting).

The Telltale Head didn’t provide as many things (that we don’t already have) as some of the other episodes and honestly I really didn’t want to go into the messy business about umm.. Wonderland’s Queen of Hearts’ famous quote, due to the sensitive nature of it.

I also write so that it provides commenters (if they wish) to add their own favorite moments and such. I originally thought these posts would inspire others to post Memes or Gifs etc., but I digress.

I wish to accommodate the majority of my readers/commenters so if you have more feedback or clarification, I’ll try to accommodate. Keep me Posted ;p

Great post Tot! I always enjoy reading them 🙂

  3. Some great ideas Totbox!!! Some real potential for updates and I hope EA are reading these great posts 😀

  4. I keep getting kicked out of the game like every 5 to 10 minutes? Is this an issue? Is there something I can do to fix it? I have plenty of memory left on my iPad. Wasn’t sure if it’s just me or something with this update. Thanks for any help!

    • You’ll probably get a better answer if you post the comment in a more appropriate post; like the recent one about the update, as opposed to a throwback to a season 1 episode post.

    • You might try rebooting your modem and router and then your device if you play on WiFi. And plenty of memory should be at least 2 Gb. If you have an origin ID and you really should, you can clear cache, uninstall, and reinstall. Good luck. 🙂

    • The most recent update seems to be causing some grief for at least a few of us. Lagging and crashing among them. I’ve no solutions to offer but just wanted to chime in.

    • I’ve been away from the Internet for hours and I was so very excited to see 5 comments!! *Happy dance* only to realize they were mostly responses to your comment. thanks. :p
