Where Did THAT Come From – The Scoutmaster

Faster than an event speeding donut spender! More powerful than a local Addict! Able to leap long comment threads in a single bound! Look! Up in the TSTO-niverse! It’s a building! It’s a decoration! It’s Superheroes 2016!

In our silly lil game, we sometimes see things pop in that we have no clue as to their Origin. They seem familiar, but we just can’t pinpoint from where. So that is why we decided to make a fun lil reminder out of it. To let you know just Where did THAT Come From?

So unless you’ve been locked away in Lucite, by now you probably realize a new event has splashed all over the screens of our beloved game. Lots of new stuff and that means I have one heck of a job to do letting you know where all the new “super” things come from. Origin stories are sort of the bread and butter of any comic book story worth its proverbial weight in Booster Gold, so I’m back at my usual antics again. For this issue of WDTCF, we’ll be looking at The Scoutmaster, a premium offering during Issue 3 for 100 Donuts.

“Radioactive Man” (S7:E2)

Most of us know this episode as the Springfield hosts the Radioactive Man movie and ultimately gouges the filmmakers to the point where they have to return to Hollywood empty-handed. You know, Hollywood, the land of dreams where everyone is friendly and kind.

Hollywood Simpsons

Jeesh… I can remember seeing this as a kiddo (fifteen) and laughing at the silliness of Hollywood at the end of the movie. At least they tried.  Of all the things in the Best. Show. Ever., I love when they take digs at my home state. Lampponing things is just one of the amazing things this show does. Early in this episode, we see the filmmakers meeting about the movie when Comic Book Guy reaches out to nerd.alt.obsessive. for info about who will be playing Radioactive Man.  Their whole goal for the movie is to make sure it’s not like the campy 1970s television show plus they can’t use Dirk Richter because “he’s 73-years-old and he’s dead.”

Radioactive Man 1970s TV Show Simpsons

I love this clip in part because I love the old Batman TV show.  Also, the villain is great… The Scoutmaster.  “Billowing backpacks!”

Scoutmaster Simpsons

Fallout Boy describes him as “the worst villain of them all.”

Scoutmaster Paul Lynde Simpsons

An obvious tribute to the late, great Paul Lynde (you may remember him from such amazing performances as Uncle Arthur on Bewitched, Templeton Rat in Charlotte’s Web or from Hollywood Squares), this villain is great!

Paul Lynde

The Scoutmaster has henchman that dress up as Boy Scouts who square off against Radioactive Man and Fallout Boy. “Don’t be afraid to use your nails boys.”

1970s Radioactive Man TV Show Go get em scouts Simpsons

I love all the fight word screens during the brawl especially Bort.

Radioactive Man Fight Words Simpsons

RM and FB beat the bad guys but then a bunch of female go go dancers show up so the whole group can break out into a groovy dance number.

This whole thing is just so great.  I’m so thrilled that EA decided to bring this character into the Superheroes Sequel.  Anyone else love the Adam West Batman TV series? What are your thoughts? Did you earn him yet? Sound off in the comments and keep on being classy.

TTFN… Wookiee out!

  1. I must confess I originally thought he was the singer/voice to “Surfin’ Bird” (don’t tell Peter Griffin that) :p

  2. Just before he got hired to write for The Simpsons, Conan O’Brien wrote a TV pilot (with Robert Smigel). The show, “Lookwell”, starred Adam West as a former TV action hero who now “helps” the police solve crime. It wasn’t picked up to series, but the pilot is on YouTube and worth checking out.

  3. “Don’t forget to Use your Nail Boyz” <== I can't stop laughing when he says this!!!

  4. Does Lobster Island grant a bonus or anything?

  5. Yes I watched Adam west batman as a boy and really enjoyed it. During that era there was green hornet too and I similarly love it.

  6. So, um… No post about July 14?

    • We do LOVE our neighbors across the pond, however we all 3 are Americans… living in the USA… playing a USA based game. I would not feel right writing about something that is not my personal “day”. I don’t want to offend anyone or not do it justice. So… we leave it to our awesome readers to take the reigns and form their thoughts.

Remember… it is only 145PM – 445PM in the USA. The day is not over yet. 🙂

I guess I could say “Viva La France”, but I really don’t know if it is appropriate, much less know whether or not I’m insulting anyone 😊 So as for me, I’ll just say “hey, wassup dudes?” 😘

      • I mean, we did have a character released for the occasion and all…

  7. This dance party… Wasn’t it also how The Ghost in the Invisible Bikini (a… 60’s movie, no better definition) ended?

  8. Here is the clip I found earlier today, it’s so funny https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vbtRZzZWFTQ

  9. Paul Lynde was by far the funniest celebrity on the Hollywood Squares. I’m old enough to remember watching the show way back then when game shows were actually worth watching.

  10. I broke down and got him. I love the Paul Lynde voice. I’ve been earning so many doughnuts these days that I figured I would get him as long as I have the chance. I had no interest in the Fracker. Too expensive, and not very interesting or relevant to the game as a whole.

Love him! I haven’t seen this episode in a long time, I may have to hunt for it online. Thanks Wookiee for posting this! I hear “billowing backpacks!” all the time in my game but forgot where it originated from. Funny memories!

  12. Loved Adam West ‘Batman’ we could only see it on cable when I was young and few of our friends had cable so it was a treat. So glad they have him as Mayor of Quahog:

Trisha Takinawa: Here comes Mayor Adam West himself. Mr. West, do you have any words for our viewers?
Mayor Adam West: Box, toaster, aluminum, maple syrup… no I take that one back. I’m gonna hold onto that one.

  13. the event has been good
would have been a lot better if it didnt crash every time i play
    been very frustrating
it started crashing when this event started been playing for over a year
i dont have the scoutmaster but am debating lol
all in all a good event except the crashing

    • Crashing is caused by too much memory being used.

You can usually combat this by limiting your game during highly active events. Things like…
      Store all NPC
Send ALL Characters possible to indoor tasks
Store animated Decos or Buildings not in use
Limit use to ONLY TSTO running on your device, kill other other apps in background
      Try using WiFi (strongest signal)

Once in a while, I also uninstall and reinstall the game to ensure no corrupted files or additional files tucked in my device.

  14. Yes I think Templeton (from Charlotte’s Web) was the first time I heard his voice and fell in love with that voice – it’s a perfect comical villain voice (which he used as the villian in The Perils of Penelope Pitstop).

Paul Lynde, not only beloved on Bewitched and Center Square on Hollywood Squares, He was Harry McAfee in Bye Bye Birdie (where he sings about ‘KIDS!’), and of course numberous other roles and bit parts that usually become the best moments in those episodes.

And I love the campy Batman series (sideways camera angles, bright colors, objects with signs that have the word of what that object is attatched to it “Air Vent” etc.). The humor, the cameos, the virtuous lessons when we don’t expect them.

So The Scoutmaster is a great Marriage of Paul Lynde/Batman the TV series/The Simpsons episode so it was a must BUY. 🙂

    • Fun facts:

      1. That sideways camera angle is actually a film technique called Dutch Angle or German Angle.
      2. It is kind of Batman lore that each villain on that show was assigned their own particular unique angle.

  15. I LOVE the Adam West Batman series, which is one of the reasons I picked up the Scoutmaster. What EA needs to do is add a new job task for Radioactive Man where he dances with go-go dancers. LOL!

  16. Josephine Kick@$$

I absolutely love Paul Lynde! My favorite episodes of Bewitched were always the ones he was in 😀😀 He made Hollywood Squares more fun than it should have been! 😂 Awwwww dangitawl… you & Alissa have pretty much convinced me to stand on the corner to get enough money to get him… begging!! It would be easier for me to pull off a CCL or Agnes than one of Belle’s girls 😂😂😂😂

  17. I love how one of the words to cover up violence was “Snuh”, a callback to that episode where Marge gets Itchy and Scratchy taken off the air.

  18. I loved the Adam West Batman series as a child. My sister and I would watch re-runs in the early ’90s on YTV in Canada after school, same Bat time, same Bat channel each day. About 12-15 years go, after not seeing the show since our pre-teen years, she saw the DVD of the movie where all four villains unite and bought it. We watched it now as late teenagers and were like ‘how the heck did we ever like this?’. It was so cheesy and as kids we thought it was so cool. However, now that we’re both wiser and past that teenage doldrums, we appreciate the show for what it was. Side note, was great seeing Adam West on the 200th episode of The Big Bang Theory. A must watch for any fan of Batman. Adam West was a scene stealer.
