Where Did THAT Come From – Dr. Lenny’s Lab & Satellite Station

Faster than an event speeding donut spender! More powerful than a local Addict! Able to leap long comment threads in a single bound! Look! Up in the TSTO-niverse! It’s a building! It’s a decoration! It’s Superheroes 2016!

In our silly lil game, we sometimes see things pop in that we have no clue as to their Origin. They seem familiar, but we just can’t pinpoint from where. So that is why we decided to make a fun lil reminder out of it. To let you know just Where did THAT Come From?

So unless you’ve been locked away in Lucite, by now you’re probably similarly stuck in the latest new in our beloved game. Lots of new stuff and that means I have one heck of a job to do letting you know where all the new “super” things come from. Origin stories are sort of the bread and butter of any comic book story worth its proverbial weight in Booster Gold, so I’m back at my usual antics again. For this issue of WDTCF, we’ll be looking at:

Dr. Lenny’s Lab – 6th Issue 3 Prize – 78,800 Trading Cards
Satellite Station – 160 donuts

“Dark Knight Court” (S24:E16)

Na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na … Fruit Batman! Yes I’m the nerd who counted all the nas in the theme song I wanted to parody. This episode is the Burns is shoved into the Android’s Dungeon courtesy of an Easter egging incident caused by Scottish angst, remembers his childhood fondness for comical booklets, and then proceeds to buy and burn all of them but not before being inspired to become a superhero himself.

Mr. Burns inspired to become Fruit Batman by comics Simpsons

“The terrifying bat who swoops from the sky and sucks the vital essence of his prey.” Fruit Bat Man… the “mysterious octogenarian of the night.”

Fruit Batman Mr. Burns Simpsons

We’ve written about this episode previously (Fruit Batman and Wholesome and Sons) but once again, EA picked multiple items all hailing from the same place. Mr. Burns isn’t a very good super considering his advanced age and reliance on one Waylon Smithers. That doesn’t keep his crony from arranging elaborate charades to make Burns think he’s one heck of a caped crusader.

The set-ups are really funny to me.  I could honestly watch an entire episode of these shenanigans.

Fruit Batman Catwoman Bane Penguin Joker Simpsons

My favorite is that even Mr. Burns realizes that a lot of the villains are “Homer-shaped.” When Monty turns down Lisa Simpson’s request for help, Smithers ends the farce.

Smithers: “All those crooks were fakes set up by me.”
Burns: “Even the abominable Dr. Lenny?”
Smithers: “No, he was a happy accident but the rest were fakes… just like you.”

I remember first watching this episode (we had a TSTO tie-in for it) and wondering if we’d see Lenny in costume but this isn’t just dialogue. At the end of the episode there’s a short scene during the credits where we see the Abominable Dr. Lenny’s Lab.

I was as surprised as some of you to learn it was a completely different villain but it makes sense if you reread the dialogue. Burns send a beamed communication into space and bang bam boom there’s the Satellite Station from Issue 1 of the event.

Satellite Station Dependables Simpsons

Nick Fury activates The Octogenarian Initiative with The Rambler, Early Bird, Hot Flash, and Iron Lung aka The Dependables.

So there you go friends. The origins for two of our items in the game. Quick blips from a scant few seconds at the end of an episode that now grace our games. What do you think of them? Did you earn the Lab? Buy the Satellite Station? Pretending like me that Fury is currently floating in the skies of your town? Hoping for the Dependables some day? Sound off in the comments and happy super tapping.

  1. Heh heh: “Dependables…”

Really hoping there’s another superheroes event so we can get the fake villains and the Dependables!

  3. I like Lenny’s Lab. I put it up near the mountains and my Nature area. I’ve been using the cat tails or marsh reeds or whatever they are that we get sometimes from the insanity pepper challenge. They fit around it to make a swampy area that goes with the mist around the lab.

  4. I know this isn’t specific to this post – and I apologise for that – but:

What about an addicts banner parodying the Simpsons couch gag with you all squashed together on the couch, drawn in Simpson cartoon style, maybe with some familiar Simpson faces that could be updates for events – eg. Wearing Christmas outfits on the couch for Christmas event and squashed on the couch with content released in the event.

A reply by an Addict admin would be nice as I don’t know who is in charge if banner stuff (guessing it is Bunny?)

Is it possible as I would LOVE that idea?

    • Ultimately, Sam, i’m in charge of everything that goes up on this site. Bunny does design work, but I get final say. Anything is possible. Will it happen? Can’t say for sure right now.

  5. I got the lab…doesn’t really fit anywhere. I remembered Burns saying he needed an evil fortress so I plunked it down beside his mansion.

I have Jasper and Moleman, but I don’t know how an iron lung skin would work. Would it just roll around town? I also don’t have Mrs. Glick, though.

  7. EA – let us add Dr. Lenny’s lab to the Squidport!!

  8. Fingers crossed for The Dependables and Dr. Lenny in the next Superhero event.

  9. I love the lab; it looks to me like a modernized version of the castle in The Last Unicorn, which was a childhood favorite of mine. Only issue is, it’s too bad you can’t place the lab on the ocean where it belongs… or at least along the shore. (Mine is as close to the shore as it will allow me to put it.)
