Should I Spend Donuts On the Cristo of Springfield or Half Pipe?

Hey Howdy Hey Tappers!

It’s time to gear up for the summer games in Springfield!  Gather up those participation ribbons and be prepared for the fix to be in from Fat Tony, as we journey through the wonderful world of “sports” with the residents of our pocket-sized Springfields!  So bust out those donuts because Fat Tony’s got the “goods” for us to buy in a store full of sport themed premium items!

Of course with that limited-time label it can be tempting to buy everything because it’ll be gone soon.  But don’t sweat it!  That’s where we come in to tell you what’s worth those donuts and what you might want to hold off on.

Wondering if you should add the Cristo of Springfield or the Half-Pipe to your Springfield?  Well before you hit that confirm button let’s break down the pros and cons of adding these ribbon generating items to your town!

christredeemerHalf_Pipe

Since both of these are ribbon generating, and we’re approaching the weekend, I’ve decided to combine these two into 1 SIB post….here’s the breakdown on each:

christredeemer

Building/Decoration: Cristo of Springfield
Donut Price: 75 Donuts
Bonus%: Earns 2.5% bonus on all cash and XP
Earns:ico_cur_springfieldgames_ribbon_lg_1/3hrs
Size: 2×5
Conform-O-Meter: Vanity +200

Leaves stores when the Event ends, August 16th

Pros:
-Earns an ok bonus % for donuts spent…
-will help generate more ribbons (premium rate)

Cons:
-Just a decoration, no questline
-No animation to it
-Bonus % is ok…BUT you’re far better off getting 2 Jet Engine Bikes if you’re looking for a good bonus % (or the World Flags)

Final Thought:
Premium/Freemium:
This one is pretty underwhelming in my opinion.  It’s just a statue.  And while it will help earn more ribbons, it’s not even remotely necessary to get in order to complete the event.  So, personally, I’d pass on this one.  Unless of course you really like how it looks…but don’t buy it for any other “practical” reason in the game.

Half_Pipe

Building/Decoration: Half-Pipe
Donut Price: 100 Donuts
Earns:ico_cur_springfieldgames_ribbon_lg_1/3hrs
Size: 3×11
Conform-O-Meter: Vanity +400

Leaves stores when the Event ends, August 16th

Pros:
-Comes with a short (1 part) questline for Bart
-Unlocks a permanent animated 3hr task for Bart
-will help generate more ribbons (premium rate)

Cons:
-No bonus % awarded for it
-Expensive for what it is/does

And here’s a look at Bart’s Half-Pipe task…

Final Thought:
Premium:
So the animation on this is cool, but it’s basically a replay of Homer’s animation at the Gorge.  I do like that this comes with a permanent 3hr task for Bart, that’s animated.  If you’re looking to spend donuts in this event, this would be the one item (out of all of them) I would get.  BUT it’s still fairly underwhelming, in my opinion.

Freemium:
Pass on this one.  It’s overpriced for what it is/does.  I’d completely avoid spending those hard earned donuts on this one.

Of course, for both of these, in the end it’s your decision, we can only tell you what we would or wouldn’t do.  And I can tell you I’ll probably be passing on both of these items (just not worth it to me).  Of course whatever you decide just remember these are limited time and will be leaving our games once the event ends.  So if you’re thinking about grabbing either one, do so before it leaves our games on the 16th!  Also, since they earn event currency the sooner you pick them up, if you’re planning on it, the better.

What are your thoughts on the Cristo of Springfield or the Half-Pipe?  Have you picked either one up?  Will you be?  Where have you placed them in your Springfield?  Sound off in the comments below, you know we love hearing from you!

  1. cristos is good, a 2.5% return AND currency every 3 hours. a great purchase!

  2. I was hoping, in this case, Cristo was going to be a more towering Rio de Janeiro version in honor of the Olympics. Thanks for your comments, will skip it now. The person who had the idea of putting the smaller version up in the Old West Cemetery = genius. 🙂

  3. 4kidsandacatdog

I got Cristo, but now I want a mountain to put him on. No strategically placed hedge arrangement will do!

  4. Well I just experienced my first Byers remorse. After a little over two years of premium playing….I took a chance on the cristo’s, and well, it just didn’t work out.lol I thought he’d look a little funnier in the field…but no dice. Oh well maybe I’ll find a better place for him in the future.

  5. i wish the half-pipe came with tony hawk and he came with a joint task with homer doing this: https://youtu.be/ql64QCiQsVQ?t=1m14s

  6. Does anyone know what the bonus % is for the World Flags?

  7. Someone stole my burrito™

I bought Cristo to go in front of the church and thought it would be cool for Christmas time in the snow. I really like statue type items as opposed to outrageous items like the skate ramp. Maybe because I’m older, but skate ramps become eye sores after awhile, while statues blend into a more realistic town look. JMO 🙂 Plus you get a nice little bonus.

  8. I need more friends for XP and friend points.

  9. Thanks for the info. You mentioned that buying the World Flag Bundle wound be a better bargain. Have you done a “Should I buy…” for the World Flags? If not, what is the Bonus% for them?

    • .25% per flag, so 7.25% for the whole bundle. A much better deal than even the Jet Enging Bike!

  10. Josephine Kick@$$

The statue is paying cash if you’ve completed the quest 😊

  11. Could you combine those a little more? I’d like my Jesus to have an animated job at the half-pipe. 😀

I bought the Cristo and placed it by the Wild West graveyard (the only graveyard I have). Hopefully I can make the idea even better later on with some more designing.

  12. Can the Cristo be placed on the mountains that divide Springfield from Springfields Heights? If so, I would buy it. Would be a good reminder of Rio

  13. Took one glance at these when they first appeared in the store and immediately thought meh pass no interest at all in either of these items.

  14. I got the statue. I like the one in Brazil and this guy looks great looking down on Springfield from the top of my pyramid with the Olmec head and the hail ants signs.

  15. I thought the statue would be nice with the church, so I bought it. I probably wouldn’t have if I didn’t have all these XP donuts, but I think it looks pretty good.

  16. The half pipe fit in perfectly in a hole I had in my Duff/Sports area. Great animation too.

  17. Thanks for the article.
I always look forward to your “Should I spend doughnuts on…” posts when a new event comes up.

  18. I’ll pass on both.

If I was made of donuts I’d have picked the half pipe.

In 5 hours I’ll be 4 ribbons away from completing this event – spending donuts to buy items to complete events is underwhelming (to me). And it’s, what day 4 or 5 with 11 days left.
Keep tapping and others can get there – I ven if they don’t wake up in the middle of the night.
p.s. One badge to go, either I’ll get it or exchange for it.

    • But it’s the same with all TSTO events…they just about always offer premium items that help you earn more event currency, and you almost never need to get the items for that purpose (unless you’re not going to be able to tap regularly during the event for some reading, maybe).

With that one exception, I would pretty much never recommend buying premium items for the event currency they earn…only buy them if you’d really want them in your town after the event is over.

  20. I couldn’t not buy the Cristo 🙂 Such a famous landmark.
Now I have to figure out a way to make him stand on a hill and oversee everything. Still working on that, may have to do some redesigning.

  21. SIB on the gym?

    • Which gym lugash?

      • Yep. Worth it at 135?

        • Bought him for full price so definitely a better deal now. He has a cartwheels task which brings me joy. If you can afford it, it’s not a bad pickup.

      • Yes. For those of us who haven’t bought him, he’s on offer for the next 10 days with a 40 donut rebate. I thought that he would unlock kids as eligible to collect ribbons, but I bought him and all it does is use him and give you 2 ribbons instead of 1. Rather disappointing!

Unless you want him for some reason and have plenty of donuts spare, I wouldn’t bother! I’d rather have got Uriah’s Heap for the price to help out with the Rail Yard tasks.

        • Thanks I’ll probably skip on him and get the flags.

        • I was actually happier with the purchase than I expected! I got it because I thought 135 donuts was a good deal for a building/character combo, but was delighted to find that it also gave Gymnast Lisa a 4-hour and 8-hour task, which means she now has tasks for all of my usual timeframes! 🙂

I’m also looking forward to going through the questlines, but most of it will probably have to wait until after the event is over.

    • You should get the gym especially since it comes with rebate of donuts. Anything with rebates is a good buy for me.

    • As a freemium player, I try to always keep a cache of 250 donuts so I can buy the sale/discount items when they pop up, so the gym was a “yes” for me. (I do this ever since I was 8 donuts away from being able to afford Barney’s Bowlarama last time that came up 🙁 )

      • Before the concept of 939 levels, I have a paucity of donuts at all times. I usually use blood trucks to get donuts with Collider if I need. Now life is better..

  22. Well My donuts are gone;-( bought before I see the SIB post…
    Oh well!

  23. Go for the flag collection instead! 0.25% per flag, you’re getting 30 flags! That’s 8.5% bonus for 50 donuts.

    • 7.5%, but still pretty good donuts to % value 🙂

    • i was curious if all flags are 0.25 bonus, is this a single buy or can you buy more than on flag set?

      • You can buy multiples (or at least I’ve seen people post comments here that they bought two bundles). But keep in mind that you need to actually place each of them to get their multiplier, so be sure you a) have a place, or places, to put them all, and b) have the time and inclination to place all 60 of them (you have to get them out of inventory one at a time, and some of them come with amusing dialog, too).

      • barleecreations (canid88)

I bought a set and I can see it is still available in the store for me, so I’m guessing you can buy as many flags as you want.

    • Thank you! Good advice – I was waiting for the SIB but now i don’t have to wait 😉

    • 7.5%, but still a good deal!

  24. Too many donut request need more options to buy with winnings more fun
    Getting too expensive
